00:00Hi kids! Today we will learn about patterns.
00:06What are terms in a pattern?
00:09What are term numbers?
00:12Growing patterns.
00:14Shrinking patterns.
00:16Repeating patterns.
00:18Making various different patterns using addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
00:26So let's get started!
00:30Here is a pattern.
00:34First of all, how many terms are there in this pattern?
00:40Each number here is a different term.
00:45So here are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 terms in this pattern.
00:56Let's give term numbers to the terms.
01:01We have given term numbers from 1 to 7.
01:06To each term, that is, there are 7 terms in this pattern.
01:12Where term number of 11 is 1.
01:17Term number of 33 is 3.
01:21And so on.
01:24Now, let's learn different types of patterns.
01:28Kids, here is a pattern.
01:32Can you see and tell what type of pattern is it?
01:38Here, the numbers are growing or increasing by each successive term.
01:46So it's a growing pattern.
01:51What should be the next term in this growing pattern?
01:57Here, with every successive term, we are adding 11 to the term.
02:05So to find out next term or the 8th term, we will add 11 to 77.
02:1477 plus 11, we get 88.
02:19So, 8th term would be 88.
02:24There is another way too.
02:28Here, we can see that every term is term number multiplied by 11.
02:36Like the term number 1 is 11 multiplied by 1, that is, 11.
02:43Term number 3 is 3 multiplied by 11, that is, 33.
02:50Term 4 is 4 multiplied by 11, that is, 44.
02:57So, if we have to find out the 9th term, we can say that it will be 9 multiplied by 11, which is equal to 99.
03:09Now, let's see more examples of growing patterns.
03:14Here, what should be the next term?
03:19Here we have two ways to find the next term.
03:23One is we are adding 2 to every next term.
03:282 plus 2, we are getting 4.
03:324 plus 2, we are getting 6.
03:366 plus 2, we are getting 8.
03:40Other way is we are multiplying term number with 2.
03:46To get the term number 1 is 1 multiplied by 2.
03:53Term number 2 is 2 multiplied by 2.
04:01Term number 3 is 3 multiplied by 2.
04:07Term number 4 is 4 multiplied by 2.
04:12So, finding next term or 8th term here, we can multiply 8 with 2, we can get 16.
04:22Or, we can add 2 to the 7th term, that is, adding 2 to 14, we get 16.
04:31Now, have a look at more examples of growing patterns.
04:37This is an example of growing pattern.
04:40Here we are adding 3 with each successive term.
04:45Here is another growing pattern.
04:49Here we are multiplying with 3, like the first term is 5.
04:55Second term is first term multiplied with 3.
05:05Now, the next term is 15 multiplied with 3.
05:11And the next term is 45 multiplied with 3.
05:16And the next term is 135 multiplied with 3.
05:22Now, let's learn another type of pattern.
05:27It is shrinking patterns.
05:31Here is an example.
05:34Here the numbers are decreasing with every term.
05:40Exactly opposite to growing patterns.
05:45Where the numbers increase by each successive term.
05:50Now, let's find out what the next terms for this pattern is.
05:57Here we are subtracting 10 with every term.
06:0490 minus 10, we get 80.
06:0880 minus 10, we get 70.
06:1270 minus 10, we get 60.
06:16And so on.
06:19So, next 8th term would be subtracting 10 from the 7th term.
06:2530 minus 10, that is 20.
06:29So, 8th term would be 20.
06:33Let's have a look at more shrinking patterns.
06:37Here we have a shrinking pattern.
06:41Here, what should be the next term?
06:45See here, we are subtracting 7 with every successive term.
06:52So, the next term would be 7 minus 7, that is, the next term would be 0.
07:02Here we have another shrinking pattern.
07:06Each term decreases with the growing term number.
07:11So, these are shrinking patterns.
07:15Let's have a look at some other type of patterns.
07:19They are repeating patterns.
07:23Here, the numbers 2, 4, 6 and getting repeated.
07:30So, it's a repeating pattern as the numbers 2, 4, 6 are repeating.
07:38What should come in the blank space here?
07:42In any repeating pattern, we first find the core pattern, that is the term that's getting repeated.
07:51And then we can repeat it any times to grow the pattern.
07:56Here, the core pattern is 2, 4, 6.
08:01So, according to core pattern 6 would come after 4.
08:07Now, let's have a look at more repeating patterns.
08:12These are some examples of repeating patterns.
08:16So, kids, today we learned about patterns, terms, term numbers and three types of patterns,
08:25growing patterns, shrinking patterns, repeating patterns.
08:31Now, you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
08:35Bye-bye!
