00:00This guy just broke into a moving train and is attempting to hijack it with a deadly weapon
00:09But insane hijacking attempts like this aren't as rare as you might think just like the time a dangerous and terrifying man tried to steal
00:16a commercial plane with evil intentions
00:22But just how did this man get aboard the jet and what exactly was he planning well for that
00:28We have to turn back the clock just 30 minutes to a simple shoplifting case in La Crosse, Wisconsin at around 2 40 p.m
00:35A man quickly identified as Cody Anderson headed to a gas station for a pack of cigarettes at first
00:40Nothing seemed awry
00:41but when he was unable to produce an ID the clerk let him know that he was unable to sell him the goods and then
00:47He started to get agitated and pleaded with the clerk to let it slide
00:58I can't sell them to you. He's like grabbed them from my hands and took off running out the door
01:02And so I said I'm calling the cops. Well, then Tony said he did drop a hundred dollar bill out there
01:08The plan was to check the security footage ID the man and bring him back to pay for the other cigarettes with a shoplifting charge
01:14Added for the inconvenience, but with the power of hindsight
01:17There are a couple of hints we can pick up on that clue us in as to what exactly Cody was planning as mentioned
01:23He was incredibly agitated and nervous almost like he was desperate for something to calm him down
01:28He also left $100 behind as he ran away implying that this wasn't an issue of money
01:33Oh, that's to say that when the cops got this next call
01:36They could have had a good idea who was waiting for them in the cockpit
01:40But
01:47According to staff at the local airport a man had just crashed through the locked gates to the runway at
01:52Speed before repeatedly driving in circles around the airport doing doughnuts and using the runway as a drag strip staff assumed him to be
02:00Intoxicated which made his next move even more horrifying
02:03He parked his car up by a small jet stepped out and brandished a knife at the crew
02:08Demanding they let him aboard due to the severity of this incident a call went out to every nearby officer and they arrived with
02:14arsenals of tactical gear and weapons to try and safely deal with the hijacking
02:18He just got on top of the jet, he closed the door, he did brandish a knife at me. He got on the jet? He got on the jet.
02:25I know before I copied that, he also did display a knife. I believe he's going to be my next suspect from the picture of the magic vehicle.
02:37Correctly identifying the suspect as Cody he instantly realized just how
02:41unpredictable this man could be an airport employee also noted that they only had one chance to get this under control as the outside switch
02:48To open the door works just once the problem is now the engines are active
02:53They're on a timer before Cody gets the plane moving and the cops have a huge decision to make
02:58Nobody else is on the plane?
03:00No, but he has access and he has it powered up.
03:02Can you shut it off from here?
03:04Yeah, go right through it.
03:06He actually just sold two cartons, he's up in the window.
03:08Come out! He's putting his shit on.
03:10Open the door, open the door.
03:12Come out!
03:14Come out!
03:16Get out now!
03:18Get out now!
03:20Open it again, I'm going to beanbag him.
03:22I don't have another cartridge.
03:24Come out now, show me your hands!
03:26Show me your hands now!
03:28Come here!
03:30Show me your birthmark!
03:32Show me your birthmark!
03:34I'll take lethal cover.
03:36Move this way.
03:38Police department, come out now!
03:40The door's open.
03:42Everybody else is on the plane.
03:45The cops were able to spray pepper spray into the cockpit of the plane
03:47and to hit Cody with a beanbag round,
03:49none of which seems to affect him.
03:51Cody also has started to shout nonsense statements at the cops,
03:53further cluing them in to the fact that he is either intoxicated
03:55or suffering from some sort of mental health problem.
03:57But quickly, the cops' attention switches to what Cody's intentions actually are in this situation,
03:59especially as he starts to shout some extremely worrying statements.
04:01Let's just wait it.
04:03Police department, come out now!
04:05I will cut you!
04:07I am a citizen.
04:09I am a citizen.
04:11I am a citizen.
04:13I will cut you!
04:15I am a suicide bomb.
04:17Allah Akbar!
04:19I know! He's saying Allah Akbar
04:21and that he's a suicide bomber.
04:23I've been doing it my entire life.
04:25Alright, come down here and we'll talk, okay?
04:27I'm gonna cut my wrist.
04:29Alright, just step out of the car and we'll talk.
04:31What's your name, bud?
04:33Police department, come out now!
04:35Did he drop the knife?
04:37No. It's still in his hand.
04:39Cody, just come out, man.
04:41Sir, c'mon, you won't be hurt!
04:42Just c'mon, we don't want to hurt you!
04:44In a situation like this, gaining trust with the suspect is paramount if they want to arrest him without escalating things.
04:50That's why it could be seen as a mistake that they're actively taking shots at him while simultaneously claiming they don't want to hurt him.
04:57In doing this, they've pretty much ensured that they're gonna have to take a more aggressive approach,
05:02hence the arrival of an armored vehicle and a SWAT team.
05:05C'mon, sir, just drop it, drop it!
05:10C'mon, let's see your hands, let's see your hands!
05:12C'mon, bud, drop it!
05:14Hands, hands, hands!
05:16Drop it!
05:17Drop your hands now!
05:19Cody!
05:22You wanna chase him?
05:24Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop!
05:26Cody, slow it down here, slow it down!
05:28Can you talk to me?
05:30What kind of explosives do you have?
05:32Cody claimed he had a set of C4 explosives he'd obtained from the government and threatened to blow up the plane.
05:38To add to the drama, he also said he had a dead man's switch and two handguns.
05:43C'mon, you're not moving, man!
05:45Because I got shot in the leg twice!
05:47Okay, well, we'll get you some help for that, but we gotta have you move if you move, okay?
05:52Come to the top!
05:54Okay, come to the top of the stairs!
05:56Nope, I'm dying!
05:58Get aside before we all die!
06:00I'm worried about this. As soon as he came in, he turned on the batteries on him, so, like, I think if he wants to, he might know enough to...
06:06I don't know if he's like a vet or something?
06:08But if he knows how to fly...
06:10At this point, the cops are reminded of a real threat that's still scarily apparent.
06:14If Cody even has the slightest idea of how to fly this plane, things will start to head in an entirely different direction.
06:21Luckily, staff at the airport realized that they're able to disconnect the battery at the rear of the aircraft.
06:26All the cops had to do now was get him out safely.
06:30Keep your hands visible for me, okay, Cody?
06:32We don't want to hurt you, okay? Stand up for me.
06:52There's my stolen cigarettes.
06:54Probably my stolen cigarettes.
06:56He's my suspect in my cigarette theft case, too.
06:58It's not uncommon to see a suspect turn a simple misdemeanor into a more serious felony charge.
07:04But Cody did this in one of the most dramatic ways we've ever seen.
07:08From a small-time shoplifting charge, Cody managed to catch felony charges of attempted carjacking with a weapon,
07:14attempted armed robbery, making terrorist threats, bomb scares, and failure to comply.
07:20However, police in Columbus, Ohio were faced with an equally terrifying call,
07:25except they knew their suspect was violent and armed.
07:29It was early June when police received a call about a man attacking a train and its crew.
07:33Apparently, it all started when the man forced the train to a halt by laying on the tracks,
07:37and it quickly escalated from there.
07:39The person has then started doing rocks, busted the windows out of the engine,
07:43and is now flying on top, and is sitting on top of the engine.
07:50Drop it, now! Drop it!
07:52Drop the f***ing hammer, now!
07:56Drop it! Drop all of it!
08:01Everything on you, now!
08:04Drop it all!
08:06Drop all of it!
08:08No!
08:10Drop it down!
08:14Drop it down, sir!
08:19No, drop it down!
08:22Drop it!
08:25We have MCR.
08:27It took the cop just 20 seconds of listening to this guy to radio in for MCR,
08:31the Mobile Crisis Response Unit.
08:33This is a special division of the police department trained to deal with complex mental health
08:37or substance use related calls, and it's clear why they're needed here.
08:41This guy clearly has no fear.
08:43He didn't just hijack the train, but also stood directly in front of it,
08:48forcing it to stop, with seemingly no regard for his own well-being,
08:52or that of the drivers he attacked.
08:58Come down, sir!
09:00Come down!
09:02Come down!
09:04Come down!
09:06I'm not playing with games with you, buddy.
09:12Right now you are.
09:15Put the flares down!
09:18Put the flares down!
09:21And put your hands out!
09:40Don't go in there, sir!
09:42Quickly deciding that he's done with talking,
09:44the man decides to hop down off the nose of the train and heads inside.
09:52Hey, come out again, bud!
09:54I don't know what the f*** he has, dude.
09:56Yeah, but if he's lighting them...
09:58Open it up.
10:06The cop is correct in being apprehensive to follow the man in,
10:09since they know he had a hammer which he's since relinquished,
10:13and he was just holding two signal flares which could easily be lit
10:16and used to burn or blind the cops.
10:18What's most worrying, though, is that they know he's already been in the cab of the train
10:22and could have stashed another, more dangerous weapon.
10:25But still, the cop chooses to head inside.
10:28He's down in there!
10:30He's down in there!
10:32He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:34He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:36He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:38He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:40He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:43He's waiting to go down the nose!
10:47How can I get down there?
10:55The man was able to lodge a door shut with a metal rod,
10:58and the cop is left to struggle with that for a moment.
11:00Meanwhile, a second group of officers arrive on the scene
11:03to help locate and apprehend the suspect.
11:05He's still right here.
11:07Yeah, go get in the cab!
11:13It's probably just this flare that he has.
11:15Can you see in at all?
11:17Yeah, we can open it a little bit.
11:19Let me get over here.
11:21Alright.
11:25Let me see your...
11:27It's a flare.
11:29Hey, what's up, man? Let me see your hands.
11:31Give me your gun.
11:33Come here.
11:35Come here.
11:37Get the f*** out.
11:39Don't kill me, don't kill me.
11:41Please, don't kill me.
11:45Please, don't kill me, don't kill me.
11:47Search.
11:49It's a publicity stunt.
11:51Muslims, we're not evil.
11:53Christians, we're both right.
11:57Surprisingly, catching and arresting the man was easier
12:00than actually getting him off the train.
12:02With a mixture of worries that he'd push an officer off the train,
12:05or that he'd find a way to run off,
12:08it turned out to be a much bigger ordeal than they expected.
12:10We're gonna have to pass him down.
12:12We're gonna have to hand him down.
12:14Just don't kill me.
12:20Who do you want to be the president?
12:22Trump or who?
12:24Who's the sheriff of Columbus police?
12:26We're gonna pick.
12:28Or else ISIS gonna blow the...
12:30Eventually, though, they were taken to get him down
12:32and take him back to the station
12:34where he was hit with more than just a ticket.
12:36Unfortunately, his exact charges aren't known,
12:38and it's not exactly public
12:40if this was a drug-related or mental health incident.
12:42But it's to be assumed that the man
12:44was not in his right mind
12:46and hopefully was given the help he clearly needed.
12:48Now, you may not believe it,
12:50but there's actually one thing you can hijack
12:52that's scarier than both a plane
12:54and a freight train.
12:56This man stole a school bus.
12:58The bus was hijacked in Cincinnati, Ohio,
13:00but we join the chase 40 minutes later
13:02over state lines in Indiana.
13:05More than 10 police cars were involved
13:07in the chase along the highway,
13:09so the hijacker decided to take things off-road.
13:25This maneuver managed to shake off
13:27some of the less field-equipped cars,
13:29but there were still 5 sturdy
13:31four-wheel-drive cars in pursuit.
13:33They were still letting up,
13:35especially as they had no idea
13:37who was left on board.
13:53That may have looked like a pointless
13:55and dangerous move,
13:57but it was actually proof
13:59that this guy knows what he's doing.
14:02He knew that could only mean one thing.
14:04They put down a stop stick,
14:06a set of spikes designed to puncture
14:08the tires of the fleeing vehicle
14:10and to prevent it from driving.
14:12However, the driver has to know
14:14that if he's ever outrunning the cops,
14:16they've got a litany of other tricks
14:18to stop him, so he knows he's got
14:20to up the ante if he wants
14:22to have any chance of escaping.
14:32That's a nice stop.
14:34That's a nice stop.
14:36That's a nice stop.
14:38That's a nice stop.
14:40That's a nice stop.
14:42That's a nice stop.
14:44That's a nice stop.
14:46That's a nice stop.
14:48That's a nice stop.
14:50That's a nice stop.
14:52That's a nice stop.
14:54That's a nice stop.
14:56That's a nice stop.
14:58That's a nice stop.
15:01That's a nice stop.
15:03That's a nice stop.
15:07Moving on just the destruction of Crops,
15:09he's now smashed through multiple fences
15:11and a hedgerow and nearly escaped
15:13taking out half a cemetary too,
15:15but the cops are still close behind.
15:17behind.
15:41The move actually managed to shake off a lot of the cops, but luckily a police helicopter
15:45that had just been dispatched managed to keep the bus in the view, and the ground units
16:15There are frankly dozens of cars in pursuit now, allowing them to cleverly split apart
16:28and attempt to cut the bus off in various different directions, but as it would turn
16:31out, that's not how they'd catch the driver.
16:51Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
17:18no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
17:28no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
17:29An hour of off-road abuse had wreaked havoc on the bus and by the end it was literally
17:33falling apart, however it was a stopstick that proved to be the final nail in the coffin
17:38for the driver, causing him to finally come to a stop in the field.
17:41The driver proved to be 32-year-old Chad Murdock, a man who had caused thousands of dollars
17:46in property damage, not just countless farmers, but also in the form of several damaged police
17:51cars that he'd rammed into over the course of the chase.
17:54However, the cops were able to forget about all of this when they were finally able to
17:58confirm that Murdoch was the only passenger in the school bus.
18:02Murdoch was hit with charges of criminal recklessness with a vehicle, possession of stolen property,
18:07resisting law enforcement, and criminal mischief.
18:09As of February 2024, he's currently awaiting his sentence.
