00:00The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur heard on Thursday that Navy Cadet Officer J. Susaymanikam
00:08completed his daily physical training despite appearing tired on the day he died.
00:13Lieutenant Noor Suhana Qasim Bakri, on duty that day, testified that Susaymanikam participated
00:19in activities such as running and push-ups, but was less active than other cadets.
00:25Lieutenant T. Noor Suhana, the fifth defendant in the civil lawsuit filed by Susaymanikam's
00:30father against 15 defendants, including Navy officers and the Malaysian government, stated
00:36that after physical training, the cadets underwent a Body Mass Index, BMI, examination and cleaned
00:43their living quarters.
00:45She was away at the Armed Forces Hospital H.A.T. in Lumut from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
00:51to check on other cadets.
00:53Upon her return, she was informed that a cadet was sick and ordered him to be taken
00:58to the hospital without filling out a sick form due to the emergency.
01:03Susaymanikam was transported by two officers, and Lt. Noor Suhana arrived separately to
01:09find him already in the emergency department, where a doctor pronounced him dead at about
01:141.45 p.m.
01:16She then informed her commanding officer and the deceased's family.
01:20The lawsuit, filed on May 19, 2021, alleges negligence by the defendants in providing
01:26emergency treatment and monitoring Susaymanikam's well-being during training.
01:32The plaintiff seeks general, aggravated and exemplary damages.
01:36Susaymanikam, a graduate cadet officer, was pronounced dead at the H.A.T. in Lumut on
01:42May 19, 2018.
01:44Last year, the Ipoh Coroner's Court delivered an open verdict in the inquest into his death.
01:50On Monday, the Ipoh High Court revised the verdict to homicide.
01:54The hearing continues on August 19.
