00:00He thought when he went to go listen to it that it was the strongest female rap album of the year so far
00:03I tend to agree. I think it edges out megan
00:06looks like we may have a
00:07new feud
00:09Between uh killer mike
00:11And travis scott. I did not have that on the cards. No, he's the most beloved rap living rapper right now
00:17And who was who was before him?
00:19I mean
00:21He never got quiet. Yeah, I don't know
00:25And gentlemen, what's good what's up what it do what up what up what up
00:30Miss lotto
00:31Who put out her new album sugar honey ice tea on friday amazing fire features, uh, megan a stallion
00:38Yeah, t's old touchdown
00:41um freaking
00:42What's what's like 21's? Uh cousin's name buggin 22 young nudie. No, that's his cousin. Yeah. Oh, yeah, it is. Yeah
00:51Wow, yeah, yeah
00:54Is he also british
00:55I don't know
00:57I feel like I thought 21 was born. It doesn't wait. You think nudie was born there too. I'm just asking. No, I think he's
01:04american
01:05okay, so i'm uh
01:07america, right
01:09Olympic spirit, you know, apparently like we go we claiming him album drop coco jones also on it
01:15Mariah scientist
01:17Sierra very atlanta pretty stacked. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, let's talk about the album because a lot of anticipation for it
01:25I feel like she delivered. Yeah, you know, um, we'll get y'all thoughts first and then i'll dive in
01:31Mr. Dane, I think it's great. Uh kyle
01:35In a previous episode said that he thought when he went to go listen to it that it was the strongest female rap album of
01:39the year so far
01:41After listening to it. I I tend to agree. I think it edges out megan
01:46I think it's strong. It's it's so cohesive
01:50uh
01:51It sounds everything sounds
01:54Like it it it all fits together. It's all
01:58it's it
01:59It's amazing that she was able to work with grizz to like land on this sound that at once sounds like atlanta
02:06but also sounds
02:08very modern and it sounds like it can be
02:10uh
02:12Traceable anywhere like you could this these songs could ring off
02:15Anywhere in the country, but it still feels very atlanta. She's wrapping her ass off
02:20The features all work together and you know, it's not like that
02:25Rap feature shit where like you make a song and the person comes on the song and they just like do whatever they want
02:31And then they like go about their day
02:32Every feature on the album like works with the song. Like I think my favorite feature is the teasel touchdown song
02:38and this whole song is about
02:40You know her coming to grips with her man cheating or being over protective and his whole
02:46Verse is like the inverse of that and it works so well together. Like it's like holy shit
02:52We're getting like real songwriting
02:53Well, and the fact that they can like at the end they sort of do a little back and forth
02:57Kind of like duet exchange
02:58So like that really drives home the point that this song was like created with two people in mind writing songs, man
03:04Yeah, you know, it's not just like some he's stable on the verse real quick that you could take off
03:08You know if you needed to give quick fives to mr. Tito touchdown
03:10He's just been doing a thing
03:12On the future, right? I feel like the last year or two killing. Yeah
03:15Freaking travis don toliver dojo. He's been on it and then other parts of the album
03:19she's like completely flips and she does like some other shit like my favorite song right now probably is is uh,
03:24uh is blixem, which is
03:26One of the most irresponsible songs on the album. It's her basically saying like you
03:31go shoot somebody if you love me, which is fucking nuts, but
03:36the the bars are hilarious and and
03:39The beat is great
03:41You know, there's um one line where she's like, you know, he knows who to call to make a nigga fall like life alert
03:48That's like a that's like a little wayne in his prime line. Yeah, and you know, it just made me smile
03:55I like that trump. Uh, yeah, I mean
03:58Not that she necessarily had the pressure but it does it's one of those things where we talk so much about female rap
04:04This seems to be I think the last album of the year at least the one we know of what's coming
04:09Um is always the cardi question mark out there, but you know, so a little bit of pressure
04:13It feels like to kind of bring it home like okay
04:14This is the one you know, everybody else to put out there is what you got
04:17and yeah, I think uh, I gave it another spin this morning and
04:21One of the things that I really like about it is the range that it really shows and of course
04:26You know, it's rap first. So nobody expects you to necessarily be a singer have all these other kind of talents
04:31but the fact that she can carry a melody I think really
04:34Gives her album a lot more dimension like when we hit, uh,
04:37Like copper cove and it kind of went like in a different direction, which I you know didn't necessarily expect at all
04:42but it's
04:43You know much slower much groovier, but it's not like she's you know
04:46Trying to pretend like she can sing or whatever. She carries that shit like easy
04:50I mean the songs with mariah on there like uh, coco obviously bringing the r&b element
04:54So the fact that she was able to pair those things
04:56to me was one of the things that made it really successful and not being repetitive or kind of you know,
05:01we've seen a lot of albums where it's like it's
05:0314 of the same beats. It's kind of like, you know, just at some point. Here's another here's another one. Here's another one
05:08here's another one, but it was uh
05:10Created I think to give a lot of distinct flow. Well, they most rappers I think have
05:15a short range of things to say
05:18for sure and this album proved that and this may only be like
05:23Maybe this is the album where she is able to do this
05:26But it seemed like she was making songs that literally spanned if you are a 25 year old woman
05:32You know
05:33Either from atlanta or just you know living within hip-hop culture in 2024
05:37Like these are the range of life experiences that you may find yourself in
05:41These are the range of emotions you may experience and she seemed to have made a song for literally everyone
05:47I didn't find myself thinking like oh she already like
05:49Covered this ground on another track already or like oh, we already talked about this. Uh
05:55So yeah, I agree. I think she did really well in that I think you know
05:58as I said, I think she proved to be a better songwriter than
06:02I gave her credit for yeah, and one thing too about uh, like sort of on a technical level
06:08We mentioned how many guest stars are on this album? Like is there's you know
06:12plenty of them
06:13But the fact that the album is sequenced to where most of the features come on the back side
06:17I thought it's actually a really great play because most people would think
06:21You know, you put all the features up front. It's going to carry the album, you know
06:23All the all the buzz tracks are going to be up there
06:25we just kind of get through it and then you might hit that back half and be like
06:29Okay, it's just lotto lotto lotto lotto but for her to you know, really put herself up front and not you know
06:35People can't say like oh you're just crutching on this
06:37Oh, you know it's only good until you get to track seven and we stop
06:40Like I think that sequencing was really smart to show off what she can do first
06:44And then bring everybody else in to help supplement that. Yeah. Yeah
06:47Yeah, I think you you guys both hit it on the nail reason why I like it a lot, you know
06:52I was like you have an interesting observation. It's very
06:55Drake coded
06:57Yeah, you know, um, you listen to georgia peach
07:01It gave me laugh now cry later vibes
07:04um, you listen to big mama
07:06There's the the the beat switch in the middle
07:08She does the singing first and then you know little little drake-esque and then I think the outro to shout out to me where she
07:14Threw some darts and miss isis
07:17ice spice, um
07:19It gave me more of the you know
07:21Introspective
07:22Lyrical drake vibe that we're used to getting like middle of the ocean 30 for 30 type vibes and she freaking annihilated
07:29The intro and the outro. Yeah
07:31of those tracks and I think to your point how
07:33you mentioned how she kind of
07:35Loaded up on the features in the back. She made it a thing to say. Hey guys
07:39Make sure you listen to the album in sequence, right?
07:43And like literally track by track. Yeah
07:45One to 22 because she does have put it on the floor on there. Hopefully it'll help elevate the streams
07:51Um and uh sunday service sunday service both versions remix original whatever you want, you know
07:57Um, and I do love that. She got in her melody bag, too
08:00Because that's something she played around with on 777
08:02Yeah on the last album so to see her really be confident comfortable
08:06In that space to say hey, I want to exert this talent even more
08:10Kudos to her, you know and a little nod to 21 here and then oh god. Oh god. That's what oh god the ad lib
08:17Oh god, you know what's funny about the drake coded stuff is like
08:22She's really from atlanta. Yeah, and so oh god. Oh god. Come on. Come on english teacher. Come on
08:29There's this
08:31Yeah, there's this kind of like circular influence, right?
08:33It's like the music he makes is very clearly influenced by this by the american south, right?
08:40She's actually a person from the american south
08:42but
08:43The way she's rapping is in a way that has been created not created
08:47but it's a style in which drake has made popular and even like the beat selections you can say like is is something that
08:54he's
08:55formulated in his own world to
08:58Appeal to everyone but still feel like it's from the south and you know from atlanta or from houston. It's interesting to see somebody
09:06From there take that
09:08And really own it
09:10And be like, yeah, this is this is a sound that
09:14Makes sense here. Yeah, it's super interesting. Yeah
09:18We gotta ask her for that gotta throw a quick shot to settle down too. That was one of my favorites
09:22On the project, uh real quick
09:24Joe, joe button podcast. They had a debate speaking about the lotto album just in terms of her rapping ability
09:31They had mentioned how they feel like she's top three or even in some cases top two
09:37Pure rapping when it comes to female rappers. They had said nikki one
09:42lotto two
09:44So i'm curious to ask you guys if you feel she is a top three rapper just based off pure spitting
09:52Alone, is that something you guys agree with?
09:54If this album was able to prove that
09:56Uh spitter. Yeah. Yeah, I would say off this album. I mean nikki to me is
10:03Number one. Yeah
10:07And then I would probably put
10:11You got doja you got megan. I think this album is
10:14Edges megan's but I might I think megan might
10:18Be a better rapper
10:21so the technique yeah, I feel like megan has like a better delivery and
10:26Is a better technical rapper than lotto, but I feel like lyrically and when it comes to puns lotto has that
10:32Maybe I I think I think uh, megan is
10:38Yeah, a more nimble rapper. I think she's more comfortable
10:42with like different uh
10:44verse constructions and line constructions and I think she's like able
10:48To pull references that you know, I I really have no idea no idea about but yeah, I think in terms of like
10:55that
10:56like showy
10:57Kind of as I said, like the little way and in his prime lines, you know, like
11:03Getting hidden hit in the head like bondage type lines. I think she does that better
11:09But megan to me, I don't know if she still has something that's like
11:13feels
11:16Sharper
11:17She got that aggression. Yeah, maybe it's that yeah
11:21She got that real or as trevor said that jackhammer
11:25Is that oh, yeah, well she does she like
11:28Yo, yeah
11:30Drills right in like and and yeah, I guess and there's something about you know, I think megan's tone and megan's sort of um
11:36Just like presence that is that is that adds to that kind of weight to it
11:40like yeah, and that's something that you know, it's just one of those things that
11:44You know, that's that's what god gave her like you can't right you can't re you know
11:48You can't recreate or change that tone. So it's just sort of you know, one of those things she has
11:52Um, i'm not sleeping on doja though
11:53I think doja and maybe it's because doja came through in different kind of ways and it wasn't until
11:58you know the last album that she really
12:01started to
12:02You know put it all together
12:03But I think I mean I think doja goes like on all the records that she's done in the past like, you know
12:08the tracks with city girls, uh plenty of tracks with like, uh, sweetie like
12:13uh, obviously
12:14Her own shit that she's done. I like I think doja has great different flows
12:20Voices
12:20I mean there are a couple i'm trying to think of what track it was on here that um
12:23I was liquor like even on this album
12:26That to me like like even with the back chorus and the vocals that to me had a lot of doja layering on there
12:30So I know you know, maybe she's not necessarily
12:33You know people's first pick to grab a mic and freestyle and go crazy, but I think she could too
12:37like I really think
12:39People people kind of sleep on on what doja can do obviously because we've seen her do so much and she's more successful in the pop
12:44bag, but um
12:46I think you know if she doubles down for another rap album or something, you know
12:50If you saw her live at her tour, like the breath control is crazy. She does it all live like
12:54She is really, you know
12:56She's definitely one to watch out here for sure
12:59I don't know if that puts her, you know, nikki's got to be one
13:02I was gonna say like a top three. I don't
13:04She's gonna say they all my son. They all children. Yes. It's children of benign all my sons regardless
13:12I mean nikki's just yeah on her best day like no one can fuck with her
13:16Monster verse still yeah, I mean that yeah
13:20That's a legendary one right there. Yeah easy
13:22Before we move on unless you have something else. Oh, no, no go for it. Yeah read brother. Kyle. He uh from grenade
13:30He sent us all the way to to read
13:33Because he could not let this week go by without praising big mama
13:38So i'm just gonna read it really quickly says sugar. Honey. Ice tea is finally out
13:44I'm, so proud of lotto
13:46And the whole team in this project. It really does sound as good if not better than when I first heard it at the listening party
13:54Still obsessed with shout out to me and i'm gonna keep saying it
13:58It will probably be one of my favorite rap tracks over the entire year overall
14:03I couldn't be more happy with how the album is being received by the people
14:06It seems like people on the ground are really fucking with it. And I think that's important
14:11I haven't gotten a chance to look at the prediction numbers
14:14But I think as long as she can clear the first week total positioning of 777 it's a win for her
14:20But overall the quality of the album and how consistent it is from top to bottom is a major win for her
14:25It is really
14:27her best work yet
14:29Feels like the start of a new chapter for her as a rapper and an artist
14:33My favorite tracks right now are shout out to me shimpering grits brokey georgia peach
14:39Parentheses he says dropping that video was smart
14:44And then he ends with p.s. I have no clue
14:50I haven't read this yet. So p.s. I have no clue if the drake
14:55Contributions he puts them in quotations are accurate or not
15:00In the event they are more of this please instead of leaking shitty snippets to streamers and calling yadi a
15:07genius i'll take that as a w because I was waiting for kai to acknowledge drake at some point because I realized shout out to
15:13Me and georgia peach are super drake coated and the fact that he acknowledged those among his favorite tracks
15:20I like that. He wrote this probably, you know completely twisted look it up. Yeah
15:24Also, ron man was like hold on p.s. Let me yo probably while listening to blue green gotta throw in gotta throw in drake real quick
15:32Uh, but yeah, that's that's from kyle, you know, shout out to kyle
15:36You know the amazing cover story on on her if you haven't read that please go check that out
15:41And uh, yeah
15:44You know at first I he had me in the first half. I was like I was like
15:48It's kyle the executive that put this together
15:51I'm, like is he working at the label? I'm so proud
15:57Okay, I do want to point out one note that he put in there
15:59Um, because I think it's kind of interesting about how this will do compared to seven seven seven seven seven
16:05Debuted number 15 back on the chart this right now trending
16:08Like maybe top 20 or so the interesting thing though
16:11Of course 777 had big energy on it. That was really blowing up at the time huge track
16:15So plenty of streams plenty of sales coming if this gets close and really with no there's no hit off this right now
16:20Big mama's kind of cooking but nothing on that kind of level
16:23I think that's a that's actually a win in a way too then
16:26You know without that one single probably driving a lot of the activity
16:30There's still like interest in the whole body of work people trying to find their favorites this and that
16:34So, you know, even if it doesn't do you know go past it or whatnot
16:37I still think given the two different rollouts and what was happening at the time
16:42This could still turn out to be to be a win for sure
16:45Wins all around. Yeah, well, we'll know next week the total tally on this lotto
16:50switching gears looks like we may have a
16:52New feud that's cooking up or simmering. Are we not feuding out? You know, listen, man
16:59Cat williams for this cat williams started this shit. This is your crime. This new potential feud could be between killer. Mike
17:06And travis scott, I did not have that on the cards. Nah dingo card
17:11It's like you just pick a slot machine and two names pop
17:15So pretty much allegedly, you know killer mike
17:17He released a new song called still talking that shit off his new album that came out last friday the lyrics in question
17:25Let's see. He raps you gonna respect me like a motherfucking grammy winner
17:29Like I cooked your favorite rapper like a granny dinner
17:32He also said I finally get it all my haters they were jealous
17:37They wrote their papers gave them speeches. No one gave a fuck. I walk in a room
17:43And smile and applause erupts
17:46So that led to a little back and forth between the managers between
17:51travis's manager
17:53And killer mike's manager
17:55Travis, uh manager david stromberg came out and said at killer mike mclemore and cardi b tour selling out chucky cheese karaoke nights near you
18:04Killer mike's manager stretch. He came back at dave and said taking all phase with all managers for our clients
18:11So I don't think travis and mike are gonna few but the managers I kind of want to see that could be like the little opener
18:16Yeah
18:18Okay
18:19so
18:21Academics he posted mike's week one numbers. Obviously we have mr
18:24Trevor here to cooperate whether these numbers are true or not killer mike. He did
18:29Apparently like less than 3k
18:32Week one of this new of this new album that just dropped earlier this month and that kind of you know led to the question
18:39of
18:40What's more important?
18:42first week numbers
18:44or grammy wins
18:47I
18:50Mean the cop-out is like neither are
18:54That like both I guess is the answer because like
18:58First week numbers are great. If you are of a certain caliber of artists, right if you're like able to sell
19:03there's only a certain
19:05Tier of popular artists that is able to move the units that
19:10We're talking about that travis moves
19:13Um
19:14but that doesn't
19:16Always as we've talked about on the show
19:18with people like megan like that that doesn't always
19:22Directly correlate to you having a fan base of a certain size, right? Uh, I think with mike
19:31The grammy wins is a great validation for him
19:34but for most people
19:37Who look at the grammys as like? Yeah, it's a stamp
19:41Of approval from a board of people who
19:45We're not completely sure we are
19:48In alignment with but it's it's still there
19:50It's still a big thing people still want it, but it doesn't really change the way that most people think about things
19:55um
19:56That also doesn't mean that you have or don't have a fan base. So it's like these two things that are like
20:02Important if you make them important
20:04And not important if you don't want them to be important, right?
20:07Which seems like a cop-out but I don't know it's like
20:12Travis scott is a young poppin rapper who
20:15You know is in the prime of his career
20:18Killer mike is like 50 plus he's been rapping since like
20:22I was in maybe middle school or high school
20:25and um
20:26Made an album that very few people
20:29Thought would do what it did not this one that just came out the one before that that won a grammy
20:33Um, so this is just like a bonus to him really this is just like a you know
20:40This is like a nice to have
20:41So it's weird that they're comparing this with his like big comeback with travis. Yeah with travis's big comeback album. Um
20:49Yeah, I don't know I think both are fine
20:52You know
20:53I mean sort of damien's point is interesting because you can't tell me that either wouldn't want the other thing
20:58Right, we know certainly that because travis doesn't have one
21:01Yeah, travis does not have we've seen him in past years at the grammys. Was it? I think it was party one this year
21:07This year also 2019 when cardi won best rap album over daytona astroworld. He was in the back
21:13Yeah, that was a crazy on camera spazzing. Yeah. Yeah tight. So it still does matter to certain very tight. Yeah
21:21Yeah, that's the thing too with the grammy. It's always funny because everybody
21:24You know
21:25The history of hip-hop with the grammys is obviously, you know more fraught than any other particular genre
21:30so there's a lot of
21:31You know, who is it for who's it? Not? What is it?
21:33you know, where do they come around to but you know, they love like
21:38But they can't be contemporary like kendrick, you know wins basically every time he puts out an album
21:42So it's you know, not always just the legends getting it but you people, you know say they don't care about it
21:47But then drake pops up, you know for a surprise when he gets it and doja
21:51You know cried and says she you know
21:53I mean it was a pop grammy, but she was like, you know
21:55I try to pretend like this doesn't really matter but this is a big deal. That's what they all say
21:58You know, it's like so
22:00Yeah, and of course like yeah, like you said with travis
22:02I think it must have been this year, you know after the performance that came on after he had lost and you know
22:07Everyone sort of got the coded messages in there on the flip side
22:11You know, i'm sure mike would be rejoicing if he could get half of travis first week sales, you know
22:15I don't know. I think he's he's good in his mind. He's probably like and this maybe comes with age. Yeah
22:21But i'm not saying he has to have it but if it happened, yeah, i'm sure
22:28Yeah, he'd be like
22:30He'd be you know rejoicing about that. Of course
22:32It's weird right because I feel like then the conversation becomes and we've always spoke about this like numbers versus acclaim
22:39And I think at a certain point if you're an artist you got to decide which route you want to go if you're lucky to
22:43Get both and cool. Yeah, but there's certain artists you just know
22:48The numbers aren't going to be there
22:49But if the fanfare
22:51And the critical acclaim is there i'll gladly take it
22:54But the grammys aren't aren't even directly correlated to critical acclaim
22:58You know like mclemore. Yeah, and I and the fact that you know, it's not like it's a critic's body
23:02yeah, you know, it's a
23:04I mean, it's a peers membership body. Of course you expect that, you know, people have taste and people, you know, it's getting better
23:09It's been getting better over the years, but it's it's not like oh
23:14This is the the best rap album of the year is going to win the best rap album of the year grammy
23:18Like we never go into the year thinking that ever
23:21yeah, and I think for travis, especially like
23:23And you know, they're like there is a logical case that people make where it's like if if something is the most popular
23:29that lends itself to
23:31Good, like like why would people why would people be playing astroworld as much as they you know
23:36As much as they do have for all these years
23:38If it wasn't good, you know, they're not gonna sit here and just spin some bad shit, right?
23:42So there is like that kind of lane where I can see where especially with astroworld, you know
23:45Travis hit a new a new level in fame sicko mode brought him to a whole new sort of stratosphere
23:51Unfortunately, that was a very stacked year and a lot of people, you know could have won for different reasons
23:57um, and clearly, you know cardi ended up being the top vote getter, but
24:01You know, I I swear to see that point
24:05As as carl will say the tiger. He will say as as correctly, you know awarded by the grammy carls
24:11Like they finally got one right, you know, he was right
24:13He was front row jumping up and if you think about it like going back to those
24:17Nominations that year like you said it was stacked. It was invasion of privacy. It was victory lap
24:22Oh, yeah women it was daytona
24:25And it was invasion of privacy. Yeah, there's there's a sixth one too actually I think but I can't remember who was
24:30But yeah, it was it was tough that year. Um, it's also like the like to go off of trevor's point
24:35This is the same argument that like eminem made when he had that interview with sway. Yeah. Yeah, he was like
24:41Fuck the grammys
24:42They they do all these things to get us there
24:46And then they like pull some bullshit and you know give I forgot the person he mentioned
24:51You know and give some body we've never heard of an award
24:54uh, you know, he was like the marshall mathers lp never won a grammy and he was like
24:59You can't tell me that wasn't the most impactful
25:02album of the year and
25:05It's hard to disagree with him because the numbers were so fucking astronomic and so crazy
25:11that year
25:12But I know people who are like that was not the best rap album of the year
25:15That was not the best album of the year, but to eminem. It's like
25:18You can't tell me that this diamond album
25:22Right is not the best album. I mean you look at even when 50. Um
25:26When he was a best new artist when he was nominated for best. Oh, yeah
25:30Evanescence and he crossed that stage real quick and it was like and I think didn't kanye lose best new artist to um
25:37tip of my tongue
25:38Kanye would have been like oh
25:42I forgot he lost to beaver
25:44Esperanza spalding was a year that like drake was drake in that. I think drake might have been
25:49She beat bieber for sure. Yeah. Yeah, I think it might have been
25:53I think esperanza won three that year. It was hold on. Can we hug hug? We got to pull this up
25:57I don't want to show esperanza spalding. She's really talented. No, she is but she got another wild stray this year
26:01But I also think it was well guess what because drake dissed her because he was like
26:05Who the fuck cares if you're michelle obama play like it was justin bieber drake florence in the machine mumford and sons
26:09That was esperanza's year
26:11Kanye lost to which was which it was like on paper
26:16Sounds nuts, right? I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, like month
26:20I don't even like really fuck with mumford and sons, but even mumford and sons. They're they're pretty gritty darling favorite
26:25Crazy killing it that year. They're a critic darling. They were selling out shows everywhere
26:31They like change white music
26:33That was like what white people were going nuts for at that time like this
26:36You couldn't go to any bar in brooklyn without hearing like a ding ding ding
26:41And I was like damn they lost that's yeah, that's it. Yeah, you know, it's crazy
26:46But you know what shout out to the grammys for giving giving everybody else a chance because I was gonna say
26:50I think a cast like a lucky day. I think a cast of like her who don't necessarily have like
26:56These sparkly gaudy billboard numbers
26:59But I thought you were about to say her ain't got awards
27:01I was like her got her got awards talking in terms of charting and numbers
27:06You know that they haven't been these sort of if you're lucky to get both
27:09Like I said, you're an anomaly but ain't nothing wrong with getting one of the other still a win either way
27:16I look at it
27:17Yeah, black man. Just I guess let's just you know
27:20Just build each other up. That's right. I guess the answer is, you know, tupac would love that
27:25Okay, some coalition shit
27:29Yeah, yeah
27:30Um and going into our last topic of the day
27:34Mr. Snoop Dogg
27:36Motherfucker just been all around paris doing his thing as this u.s ambassador holding it down amazing
27:44Crazy, I just think it's mind-boggling seeing the brother there
27:47Uh partying it up with martha stewart, you know chilling with brian
27:52It was a report that he even was making five hundred thousand
27:56a day during his time there
27:58so
28:00Something different that leads
28:03Me to ask this question to you guys is snoop the most beloved living rapper
28:10of all time
28:12Oh, I mean living rapper of all time, okay, i'm gonna remove the all-time part but
28:18What I think so. Okay. Well, I was going well that that that's interesting
28:22So why why are you removing the of all time? Well, because I mean like right now
28:26Yeah, living he's the most beloved rapper living rapper right now. And who was who was before him?
28:32I mean
28:35Damn it got quiet. Yeah, I don't know
28:38Well, it's all time is weird because like is he gonna be that forever?
28:41Like well, no one. Yeah, I think it'll be a while for somebody like bro
28:45Who the fuck they gonna let in the olympics? I don't know. It's really weird. That's crazy. This is a guy who was on trial for murder
28:52I still remember that. Yeah
28:54I very clearly remember mtv news breaking
28:57To the verdict and being like this guy
29:00You know snoop dogg is found not guilty. I thought yo, we thought he was gonna go to jail for murder
29:07Now he's performing that song they couldn't even leave california and like the fact to perform that on stage is crazy like
29:13Walking with the with the olympic torch. I don't think he definitely the most beloved rapper
29:18That most beloved living rapper, I mean there are other people i'm thinking of are like
29:23ll who I think
29:26You know, I mean never had the same
29:29You know shit baggage that snoop would have come with. Yeah, like, you know, even though ll, you know
29:34Obviously the mom knocked you mom said knocked you out like other kind of hard records. He never was like
29:38Fell it like possibly a felon. I think I love him too because he wasn't at a point to go to for the grammys
29:44Uh hosting the grammys and stuff. Yeah. I mean, yeah
29:46Yeah, yeah the fact that he turned into that the fact that he's on tv considered safe by corporate america is different than being
29:54Beloved by everybody. That's I think they're like they usually
29:58If you are that beloved you are usually able to do that, but I don't think just being
30:03Beloved by corporate america is the same. Yeah, you don't think the hood loves. Uh ll I think people love ll
30:08I just don't think but like ll is not like what's the ll stand for, you know, I mean like
30:13You know, but like
30:15ll is still like a little prickly like, you know, like snoop is like super
30:20Friendly like if you if you ask if you ask ll the wrong question, like he'll go off on you
30:25Like he'll i've seen him in interviews where he like snaps on people. He's passionate. Yeah
30:31Okay. Okay
30:33But snoop is like super I think it was usually like approachable or he's like very just seems like
30:39Very chill and cool and I think they're and the thing about snoop is I think they're all genuine
30:43none of them really ever feel like this crazy play like, um
30:47Because I mean you think this is the dude who when he you know came through
30:50Obviously doggy style. This is the kind of stuff that like to think that snoop dog goes from you know being one of the
30:57quintessential death row, you know faces of death row, you know
31:02Labeled sort of by mainstream media, you know
31:04Basic gangster rap and all this and everything you don't want to be and now
31:08Like your grandma would have snoop dog over for dinner and they would kick it and they would have a good time
31:13And he would teach her how to crip walk and all these things and he's still saying and bitches and hoes, right?
31:19But you know, but you do it in a way that's like, you know, oh, that's just snoop the fact that
31:23Snoop, but the fact i'm serious the fact that you know
31:26he's on the olympics the fact that he does even stuff like
31:29I think like back to the little duval song like living my best life smart like the fact that you know
31:34He has a children's brand. Yeah, the fact snoop's out here. He's like all about positivity now
31:37He's about listens to his children's music like yeah, this is just a man like this transformation is crazy
31:44Thank you is what we say is what we say. That's a real song
31:50That exists. That's made by that made
31:53You would say that made layla people's parents would have been crying. That's crazy crying
31:59To say oh my killer since the snoop dog like 30 years ago, that would have been crazy now
32:03It's like yeah, I I think beloved and he's just ubiquitous man
32:06The dude is everywhere like the freaking wine he got which is fire, by the way
32:11It's 19 crimes wine. Yeah hanging out. Like I said with martha stewart
32:14He's a new gin and juice product with dray the gin and juice
32:17He doesn't turn out any commercials, by the way, like I feel like he's on international commercials, too
32:20The fact that he was doing the damn pop out. Uh
32:24Thing what was it the little like mango drinks?
32:27At the pop out y'all know what oh he had did he had the juice right? Yeah. Oh, yeah
32:31Right there like m.e.s. Yeah
32:34But it's like you can do the olympics
32:35Yeah, and like do you know the broadcasting and the events and the dot and still close?
32:40and perform and it none of it feels like
32:43Like hokey like, you know paper play like none of that went to the olympics. He went to the uk
32:49for
32:50Uh an event for gin and juice and him and dray performed. Yeah for abadon
32:56with eminem and they performed like their old hits where he's like
33:02talking about you know street shit and and bitches and hoes and
33:07He went from there
33:10To the olympics. Yeah, and prime time hanging out with billie jean king. I think the thing about snoop is that like we
33:17believe both
33:18of them so much
33:20like there's certain rappers that get to certain like, you know a certain stature or certain status and
33:26They try to like reclaim their old glories and we're like stop it bro. Like just
33:30You're an adult now. You're like a multi multi-millionaire just like leave this stuff behind
33:36but
33:37What snoop is snoop went on a song today?
33:40And was like i'll kill a motherfucker. I'd be like, I believe that you would
33:44He he kept he kept that hood integrity. I believe I believe everything snoop says
33:50Gangster or friendly or like anything? I he's just like the most
33:55uh
33:58Authentic genuine authentic rapper
34:01And I think to go back saves him again, you know to our to our last combo to bring it all together
34:07Snoop does not have a grammy
34:10actually 0 for 16
34:12Yeah, I think but he's still beloved. I think that that might be a record too. I think it was him and brian night
34:18We're up there and I think nikki's up there, too
34:21Wow, yeah. Yeah
34:23um
34:24Okay, go ahead. I got I got because now because now it's got me thinking like
34:28Who who is next up in that kind of like?
34:31Beloved, is there anybody because part of me is like, you know
34:33I could kind of see a 50 kind of getting in that in that lane a little
34:37Like in a way and got another cover today with us weekly. Yeah, you know
34:41It's like hollywood reporter two weeks before because I know you know, I know
34:45You know, obviously we grew up with snoop. So I mean, that's what 50 so at some point, you know
34:50Like even when we get to our, you know middle age and whatnot
34:53We're gonna be always friendly and cool with him and I kind of could see where 50, you know
34:56He's he's already sort of a meme culture kind of dude. He's already sort of me out there doing jokes. So I kind of wonder
35:03He's so mean if but he's he is now he is now to be fair. Could you imagine? Uh, 50 on the olympics white people?
35:12Would probably clown people if they lost like, you know, like the like batons, yeah, he's a quintessential nigga
35:19That's like cracking the code. I'm really trying to think of oh, we got a we got a production note over here who?
35:26She brought a flavor flame
35:28He is beloved. Yeah, that's true
35:31Especially now after the olympics
35:33The favorite red lobster and shout out to him for helping the u.s. Women's water polo team being a sponsor. He really
35:39Even got over there. He paid for them to go. He paid like another olympians rent
35:43Yeah, yeah, because she oh, yeah, because she couldn't make it her and uh, serena williams husband alexis
35:48Is here he's
35:50He's a good dude. Yeah, man. People love him now flavor flavor with my show back. That's yeah. Yeah
35:54Flavor, it's crazy. Like he's one of those dudes where like there's an entire generation that has
36:00Absolutely, no idea
36:02That he was in a rap group. Yeah, I know you guys uh, you didn't mention pock. Yeah in all time
36:08Sense, like why do you feel that?
36:11My my parents think i'll say about pock real quick
36:13They my parents really say that if pock was still alive, they believe he would have won an oscar. I agree
36:19I I think people love pock. He could have been a senator
36:22The shit he did in his 25 years like I think I had a convo with my cousin the other day
36:26I was like, I thought about me at 25
36:29And I was like compared to what this man. Yeah was able to do on a global
36:34Just like the clarity of thought that he had. Yeah, the vision was just so how eloquent he was
36:40The hardest thing as a young person is to one
36:44Just to see what it is that you want
36:47And what you want to do
36:49and then being able to
36:51Transcribe that for other people is so difficult
36:55Yeah, and he did that shit at like 22 years old
36:58Uh, it was incredible now. He's like a myth, you know now he's like so beloved and so heralded that people he's like
37:06I was joking that he's like highly slossy. Like there's like a religion behind him. It's like
37:10um
37:12Yeah, yeah, I think he would have been like a senator an oscar winner
37:15That was i'm not talking music oscar for the record. We're talking acting, you know
37:22His whole beloved
37:25I think well, I think he's definitely respected. Yeah, right. I think he's definitely appreciate I don't know one thing about jay-z
37:30I feel like his people
37:32Now may not feel like they know him
37:34And he certainly is not going to be you know doing things like probably, you know
37:37Sitting for two weeks on the olympics or doing a bunch of commercials. He won't even do a versus, you know, so I think
37:43Yeah, I I guess he chooses to let the catalog and the work speak for itself
37:46and you know his actions in other ways through like the nfl, for example, you know that kind of
37:52Solidifies what his legacy is and his legacy probably seems to be more empowerment, you know
37:56Building black businesses those kind of things that he would say. Um
38:00Are his driving forcing factor so I don't know if that necessarily lends itself to
38:05you know
38:06Going down and hanging out with everybody and you know, kicking it on the beach and all that kind of thing
38:11That's true
38:13But you know, so so, you know legacy in a different way clearly
38:17But shout out to snoop man, because I keep thinking about that 500k if that was a real thing
38:22For two weeks just chilling. That's like that's a cool seven million
38:26Yeah, man
38:27Yeah, we were talking about it doesn't sound crazy for snoop also you talking about him performing with drayton
38:31Um, then he was performing with billy eilish
38:34Yeah, I mean like and yeah, you could tell like billy and snoop probably kick it and he can do anything
38:39He can move he can walk into any room. He'd be comfortable in any any
38:43Circumstance around any group of people
38:46There's no one like him. Yeah, shout out to snoop
38:49um before we rap
38:51Let's give our weekly
38:53music picks
38:55Could be old new. I forgot to send mine, too
38:58Okay, okay as long as you know, that's right nobody would have known if you hadn't
39:04I did but I did my job
39:07Mine's in there too
39:09Okay
39:10It's on it's on the online. Trevor. You want to go first? You want to leave? Okay
39:14Go ahead since you're responsible today. Well, you were first so really it should be you. I mean I can
39:18Okay, then go ahead. Okay
39:21So the one person I want to shout out doing it I am hello I do my job bro one person I want to shout out
39:28Um going in the r&b bag
39:30Miss hailey knox. Um, this is somebody I just got hip to
39:34courtesy of
39:36My co-worker and friend miss hud on
39:38Um, she had a song called. What do you need? I said, let me give it a spin white girl
39:43I don't I think it's like pronounced carmel, new york
39:47And that's where she's from like c-a-r-m-e-l. Yeah. Oh, yeah carmel. Yeah carmel substate
39:54Yeah, carmel, new york. Um, she's been doing the music thing for damn near over a decade
39:58um
39:59She started off doing covers
40:02And she ended up like opening up for charlie poof
40:05She released like her first official project
40:08Last month for the first I think that's her first project in like five six years
40:12She's super dope man. Um singer songwriter producer
40:16It's an eight track ep. Um
40:19Shows a lot of versatility. She has a song called 11th hour, which kind of has like a futuristic sound
40:24She's got a lot of dope cosigns. I know sizzle being her biggest one
40:28um
40:30I just love seeing a white girl out here doing some r&b and making it sound real good
40:34All right, you know, um, so i'm definitely rooting for her top three songs. Like I said, check out 11th hour
40:3911th hour
40:41Innocence and I think what's the other song I was playing? Oh stranger check out those three her ep
40:47For the best out right now fire
40:50All right. Are you trying to come for me? No, I know
40:54I know because I knew you had it. I knew you had it in you even if you didn't I believed
40:58Go ahead. Uh, all right, so i'm gonna switch things up to go over to uh
41:04Our current hot 100 chart topper, that's shabuzy mr. Boozy big boozy
41:11uh, not gonna be a bar song because obviously everybody in the world knows that one, but
41:15Uh shout out to what seems to be the next single that they're pushing
41:18It's a song called drink don't need no mix. Uh with big x the plug shout out the big x the plug. So, you know, um
41:25It's a they shot the video. No mix drink. Don't need no mix. That's texas right? That's it. And so
41:31Uh, okay, I think the video came out. Um, maybe
41:35About a week and a half or so ago. Um, so it's starting to make its way
41:38I'm, not sure where they're gonna push it to radio be kind of interesting but um
41:42I mean, it's definitely a fun song. I know kyle and I were talking about it
41:46So I I sort of get the spiritual kyle cosign on this
41:49um, you know, it's definitely moving in that vein that we've seen obviously with shabuzy being one of the
41:55most active
41:56country hip-hop, you know rap
41:58Uh blenders of the past couple years some you know
42:01we have things like the morgan wallen and moneybag yo song that's out there at the same time kind of doing his thing, but
42:07Uh for big x in particular, I think both versus there's one shabuzy one big x
42:12I mean, they're both fun. Like they're both just about a good time. The hook I think is something that can really
42:18You know, I don't think it's made for instagram per se but I can really expect it to catch up
42:22I mean, it's really just about like, you know, it's drink don't need no mix. What the fuck is this?
42:25I'm trying to get faded this ain't gonna do shit
42:27So you can just see so many captions like, you know
42:30Everybody's gonna take that and run with it
42:32In particular of the shout out to big x I think between big x and boss man boss man d low. I think they're both really having
42:40huge years but kind of a little under the radar because
42:43You know so much of the conversation about rap in particular in the past couple months have been dominated by kendrick by drake
42:47But they're both putting out multiple singles that are really bubbling on the charts
42:51So I think in terms of you know
42:53Once to watch who could be coming up next and people who are really maybe at the end of the year when it's
42:57Recap time and and season ending kind of thing
43:00I think they're gonna surprise people with how well they've been doing even though they haven't necessarily had
43:04That out the box blow up kind of hit and that's one reason i'm excited for big x on this because obviously we see what
43:09Shaboos is doing with a bar song at number one on the hot 100 right now
43:12I'm sure people will be really excited to see what that new single is
43:15And so that can really elevate big x I think to another level get him some more attention and get him
43:20Kind of out there in the field a little more so excited about that song
43:23It's on his album that came out a little while ago, but I think you know
43:26Everybody knows a bar song is kind of removed. So make sure you check out as it's coming up drink. Don't need no mix
43:31It's gonna be everywhere
43:33But I got a good feeling about it. Shout out to big boozy for still keeping his hip-hop roots, man
43:37Yeah, that's the thing too is I think a lot of people would have you know
43:40Expect him to abandon it or whatnot and he seems to be very comfortable
43:43in this
43:44Sort of no man's land just sort of this box of i'ma do you know
43:48What's natural to me whether it's you know country pop hip-hop together, whatever that's him no box
43:53um
43:54I'm gonna do a new song next week. I promise but the album i've been listening to the reason I wore this shirt
44:00Not this album. Are we going nostalgia vibes?
44:03Bring it all the way back. Yeah, it's not it's not this album. It is a different red man album, but that turns
44:11Turns 30 this year
44:15There is a dark side
44:17My red man came out in 94. She's 94. Yeah
44:21Jersey, it was his second album
44:23it is an album that he
44:26refused
44:28refused but he just
44:30Never performs. He stopped performing it years ago
44:34Because when he made it he was in this really really dark space in his life. He was
44:38admittedly on
44:41Copious amounts of drugs
44:44Like the same way that like eminem made
44:47Reportedly made the marshall mathers lp is like the way that this was made but just
44:53The output is just far darker
44:56and if you ever listen to the album, you know, it's
44:59Feels like a demented carnival like it feels dark. It you know, it feels claustrophobic and
45:06he's rapping and
45:08In my opinion
45:09He was rapping at a super high level
45:12um
45:13I think this is the album that really like put people
45:16that made people realize that this guy is much different than um
45:22everyone else
45:23That was around eric serban at the time
45:27It wasn't
45:28the most popular red man album, but to me it's the one that like cemented what red man is and what he could be and
45:34If you haven't listened to it, I would go back and give it a listen. Everything's produced by eric serban and rock wilder
45:41um
45:43yeah
45:44it's a
45:46It's an amazing album and em always has said red man's one of his favorite rappers that he
45:52First time I ever met eminem. He was wearing
45:55A t-shirt with his album cover on it. Wow. No
45:59Uh, it's a great album. It's dark. So if you're in a dark place, I would maybe not listen to it. But uh
46:07It's amazing
46:08Shout out to red man. Shout out to jersey. Shout out to jersey. I will say this man. He still has one of my favorite
46:14uh mtv crib moments
46:17I don't know if y'all yeah, it's amazing
46:19You never seen mtv chris redman. Oh, man, you know, I don't know what it was
46:23I never saw much cribs back in the day. I don't know if I just
46:27But it was super hilarious go watch that on youtube
46:30It's incredible because everybody has like these big grandiose cribs. He kept it super fucking basic
46:36He showed like a regular house in jersey
46:40That wait
46:41It and it looked like you know, it looked like a young man was living there. Yeah, which just this is what it is
46:48Hey, they asked to come by here. They have like the the complex game council system. He's like, yeah, that's my nintendo 64
46:55Wow
46:57Okay, i'm yeah, I missed that shit. All right, 30 years like a box of cereal on top of the fridge
47:02Oh, so it's okay. Okay, you know
