A wet start to the bank holiday weekend. A band of rain across southeast England will clear away eastward through the afternoon. There will be showers for many, these heavy at times, particularly across the south and east, with the driest conditions across northern England. 00:00Good morning. It's a bit of a disappointing and wet start to the Bank
00:03holiday weekend for many of us, but things will get a bit drier, particularly
00:08across southern areas as the weekend goes on. But through Saturday, rainfall
00:12totals will start to build up, particularly across the south and east,
00:15but also across northwestern areas. As we head into the latter part of the
00:19weekend, though, it turns drier across eastern areas of the UK. Rainfall will
00:23continue across the north and west, but there will be less by the time we get to
00:28Monday. But back to this morning, where we've got that wet weather across many
00:32southern areas, there is a rain warning in force until at least lunchtime for
00:36these areas. There could be some travel disruption across these areas if you are
00:39out on the roads or taking any public transport. Once that does clear away into
00:43this afternoon, there's a risk of some quite heavy showers across many areas of
00:47central and eastern areas of England, and at first this morning across more
00:50western areas into parts of Wales and the southwest, as well as the far
00:54northwest. The driest weather likely across more northern areas of England,
00:59but quite a brisk westerly wind will keep temperatures well below average for
01:03the time of year, particularly across the south and east, where we hold on to quite
01:06a lot of clouds through the day. It's going to be a much cooler day today
01:09compared to yesterday. And showers will continue across eastern areas, bringing a
01:14risk of thundery downpours into this evening. Overnight, though, the showers
01:18will tend to fade away, so it's a clearer picture as we head into Sunday
01:21morning. But across parts of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, they will
01:26continue and the winds will remain fairly brisk here. But elsewhere, with
01:30clearer skies across the bulk of the UK, it's going to be a fresher night tonight,
01:33but that does mean it will be a sunnier start to Sunday. So the best of the
01:38sunshine is likely on Sunday morning, particularly across eastern areas of the
01:42UK, lasting for the longest across the south, as further north the next batch of
01:46wet weather will spread into parts of Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland in
01:50particular through Sunday, where there could be some further localised flooding
01:54issues. But for many of us, it just turns a bit cloudier through the day on
01:58Sunday. But I think actually across the south and east, it will remain fairly dry
02:02and there will still be some brighter skies. However, temperatures still a
02:06little below par for the time of year, just in the higher teens for most of us,
02:11some areas reaching the low 20s across the south and east, where we do see the
02:15best of any sunshine, particularly through the morning. Looking ahead to
02:19Monday, this wet weather will move out the way and there will be more in the
02:23way of dry weather more widely on Monday. It looks a bit warmer as well, but it's
02:27not until the middle of the week where temperatures rise above average. Stay
