00:00:00From Z Soccer's YouTube channel, I'm Peter Martin, Tamit Manis, and I'm delighted to
00:00:04see the dynamic duo are here with us, Ryan McGowan and Scott Allen. Lots of football
00:00:09to talk about, hopefully you can offer us your tuppence worth as well, and don't forget
00:00:13to hit that subscribe button on the YouTube channel. Thank you to so many of you who are
00:00:17doing that in great numbers. Our figures for the last year have been absolutely superb.
00:00:23And of course, if you download the app, you'll get all the breaking news at your fingertips
00:00:27along with so much of our unique video content to look forward to. Lots to talk about, I
00:00:33did say, Rangers fans are the breaking point with the board. We'll discuss what Philip
00:00:37Clement had to say to the Rangers supporters. He still thinks they can win the league, do
00:00:42you? Scotland captain Andy Robertson is backing Steve Clarke. Jimmy Tilleen wins Manager of
00:00:48the Month. It's all shining bright up in Aberdeen at the moment. We're going to be talking to
00:00:55Blair Malloy, our reporter out at Rugby Park shortly, because Kilmarnock hold their press
00:00:59conference on a Wednesday ahead of that match against St Mirren. Has been a great start
00:01:05for Kelly, so we'll get the thoughts of Blair on that. Great to see you guys, I'm really
00:01:11looking forward to this week because you two have gone head to head. We've got a great
00:01:15little feature coming out, Ruffy and Tam got involved in Truth or Lie, and the winner would
00:01:20play, obviously, you two. I don't want you to give it away, but how good are you at lying,
00:01:25Scott? Absolutely fantastic. Based on how that went there, I've got some real good questions
00:01:32in my mind. I want a bit of background check on a few of them. I can't wait to see what
00:01:38you come up with, although to be fair, Ruffy is utterly unique. Ruffy's was worth watching,
00:01:43it was comedy gold. Absolutely. Kelly, hasn't been great, bottom of the table, still looking
00:01:49for that first win, which I think is absolutely gobsmacking if you think about Kilmarnock
00:01:57of last season, but they've had European games. They've 11 games in all competitions, they've
00:02:02only scored six goals. Maybe the international break will help them. Well, according to Paul
00:02:08Sheeran, that break hopefully will give them a chance to recharge the batteries. Probably
00:02:15a lack of experience throughout the squad in terms of that European exposure, but at
00:02:21no stage will we use that as an excuse. It's just not quite went our way in terms of performance
00:02:26levels and we're constantly looking to improve on that. That doesn't change now, but you're
00:02:31spot on. This international break has definitely given us a chance to get ourselves going again,
00:02:37train properly. Obviously, that's taken out of the equation when you're travelling and
00:02:43you're two games a week, you're not getting exposed to as much training as you'd like.
00:02:47So we've managed to get a good bit of training under our belt and hopefully now a bit more
00:02:52structured in our working week and that will help us going forward.
00:02:55Yeah, as you can see, the Kelly assistant still takes a bit of time before he gets up
00:03:00to Derek's tan, to be honest with you, Tam. I don't know if you remember him as a player,
00:03:04I thought he was a great player. Peanut? Yeah, I played against him loads of times. That
00:03:08was his nickname. I played against him loads of times. Lovely left foot, St Johnston, probably
00:03:18his best spell was at St Johnston. Very good player.
00:03:22Of course, Kelly, it's been somewhat of a surprise. Our reporter Blair is down there
00:03:26live. Surprised us, Blair. What's the feeling in that Kilmarnock camp? Is there a genuine
00:03:33sense that they can start to turn it around?
00:03:36Yes, you join me in sunny Ayrshire today, Peter. It was something of a late substitution
00:03:42this afternoon when Paul Sheeran came in to speak to the press instead of Derek McInnes.
00:03:46Obviously, it's not been plain sailing so far this season. Like you said, only one win
00:03:51in the last 11 games this season so far. That win coming away to Tromso, a night that the
00:03:57Kilmarnock fans won't forget, but it will pale in comparison if they don't start picking
00:04:01up the points domestically. And the key point today was really this proved to be a reset.
00:04:06This international break, they have taken time to gather their thoughts, gather themselves
00:04:10back together, and now that they've got a spaced out schedule, can they come back in
00:04:15and really kick on domestically? Of course, they're taking on a team in St Mirren who've
00:04:19also had European excursions this season. Maybe with both sides, they're not as far
00:04:23up the table as you would expect, given those extra fixtures. But Paul Sheeran really getting
00:04:28the message across that they've taken this time to regroup, they've taken this time to
00:04:31work together, and hopefully, from a Kilmarnock perspective, they'll kick on again in the
00:04:36league this weekend.
00:04:37Yeah, of course, goals is key to this. And last season they were able to score the goals
00:04:44that gave them a really good finish. But they've got a run of games now, Blair. St Mirren,
00:04:48Dundee United and Dundee. Not exactly easy because those teams have shown a little bit
00:04:53of form.
00:04:55I think games last season, Peter, that you would think Kilmarnock may have won. But all
00:04:59of a sudden, with a tricky start to the season, maybe confidence isn't so high. You mentioned
00:05:04goals there. I actually questioned Paul Sheeran on one of the strikers in question this weekend.
00:05:09Not for Kilmarnock, however. In fact, for St Mirren. Kevin Van Veen, he'll be coming
00:05:13up against his old side, who he spent the back end of last season at. Maybe a surprise
00:05:19to see him back in Scottish football. But Paul Sheeran was very complimentary of the
00:05:23forward and said that even without a point to prove, he will be a danger man. And when
00:05:27he was at Rugby Park last year, he made players even better. So he could be a tricky player
00:05:32for Kilmarnock to deal with.
00:05:34One thing you can't get away from this season, however, has been the ill-discipline of the
00:05:38side. Of course, picking up three red cards already. I asked Paul Sheeran about that,
00:05:43whether it had been something that had been discussed. And he said it would be ignorant
00:05:47not to have brought it up. It's obviously something that you can't ignore. But he offered
00:05:51his own explanation as to why it was maybe the case. And said, hopefully, it's just a
00:05:55coincidence. And they're getting them all out the way at the beginning of the season.
00:05:59Absolutely. Just a slight breeze there. But I'm almost certain, Tam, with air only, a
00:06:05car ride away that Blair will be heading out there to see if Derek Mackinnis is down by
00:06:09the beach.
00:06:10You just mentioned that word coincidence there. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the sun's
00:06:13out and Derek pied his press conference. Paul Sheeran then, he's down the beach for a tan.
00:06:20Yeah, absolutely. Thanks to Blair.
00:06:22And Peanut.
00:06:23Yeah. Big thanks, Blair and Peanut, for giving us the insight there. Good stuff to hear from
00:06:29Blair Malloy out at the press conference. You're getting it right up to date, as it
00:06:32happens, non-stop on the programme. You don't get that on Clyde, do you? Right away, we're
00:06:38there. You don't get that on Radio Clyde, do you? Or the Under-21s, or Sky, or any other
00:06:44checks coming in your door, by the way. He's unbelievable, isn't he? He's on for him. Anyway,
00:06:50good to see you. Are you enjoying the radio?
00:06:52Yeah, I do.
00:06:53Yeah?
00:06:54Yeah.
00:06:55Just working with all the people that I started there, yeah?
00:06:57Yeah, well, you're obviously a trendsetter, aren't you?
00:06:59He thinks he's Pep Guardiola, by the way.
00:07:01La Masia or a reporter's coming through.
00:07:04Yeah, well, we picked you up from the record.
00:07:06See you in a minute.
00:07:09Anyway, thanks to Blair out there at Kelly. Give us your thoughts on it. James Wright
00:07:14says, Kalmanic in danger of relegation. Can't see it, can you?
00:07:18No, I don't think so. I think they've obviously had a real tricky start to the season. They
00:07:23were juggling Europe, and I think their squad really did struggle with that. So, I think
00:07:27I fully expect them to not be anywhere near the sort of bottom two, but I do think it's
00:07:33a tricky game away to St Mirren, which, again, those two were fighting for a sort of fourth
00:07:38and fifth spot last season. So, it is a big game, but I don't think they'll be anywhere
00:07:43near the relegation battle.
00:07:44Yeah, they'll have to turn it around soon. Can they do it? Give us your thoughts on that,
00:07:48Kelly fans. All things Aberdeen. If there's one city at the moment where everything is
00:07:54rosy in the garden, Tam, it's up in the Granite City. Undefeated, no surprise, Jimmy Tallien
00:08:01wins Manager of the Month.
00:08:02Yeah, this is a fantastic start to the season. Peter, there's no denying that. I think him
00:08:06coming in, he needs a good start. He's got a good start. I've said it before, the fixtures
00:08:10have been reasonably kind to him. He's got a really tough October coming up, but all
00:08:14he can do is beat the teams in front of you, and they've done that. They're at home, another
00:08:18very winnable game at home to Motherwell at the weekend. They try and stay on the coattails
00:08:22of Celtic and try and increase the gap between them and Rangers in third. So, I think if
00:08:26you're an Aberdeen fan at the minute, you're buzzing the way the team's playing. The last
00:08:31minute goal, I'll put Ross County as well. You've seen the fans on the pitch, so they're
00:08:35all behind the team and behind the manager. That's not been the case for the last 18 months,
00:08:39two years, Peter. There's been a lot of changes up there, but finally they look as if they've
00:08:43got a guy they can all get behind.
00:08:45Yeah, here's a look at the fixtures for the weekend. If you are going to a match, we'll
00:08:51always try and tell as many of you as possible. If it is possible, get out there and support
00:08:55Scottish football. Aberdeen against Motherwell, Celtic Hearts, Hibs against St Johnston, Ross
00:09:00County, Dundee, St Mirren against Kilmarnock and Dundee United against Rangers. We'll discuss
00:09:05these with the guys a little later on in the programme, but of all the issues that are
00:09:10burning at the moment, what did you make of the Scotland performance?
00:09:15Against Poland, I thought there was a lot of positives in terms of you've definitely
00:09:18seen a clear change in how we're trying to approach the game and create chances, which
00:09:22we did. I think the simple fact is, in both boxes, we aren't probably at the level of
00:09:29the teams we're competing against, and obviously in that pot, we're one of the nation's leagues.
00:09:34So I think we could look at this problem and that problem, but for me, quality in both
00:09:39boxes is ultimately what decides the games against the better equipped nations, and I
00:09:45think we've seen that.
00:09:46You watched the U21s, you were working in the co-commentary on it, so is there hope?
00:09:51Is there something in there that can take the step up?
00:09:53Yeah, well obviously for me, Lennon Miller was man of the match, had a real influence
00:09:58in the game, albeit a way to malter. We wouldn't be expecting the young lads to go across there
00:10:03and win, but they looked really comfortable in the game. A lot of good interchanges between
00:10:08the likes of Lyle Cameron, who I'm a big fan of at Dundee. I think you've seen that bit
00:10:12of quality. Daniel Kelly, who's obviously made the move to Millwall, showed flashes
00:10:16of what he could potentially be. So for me, Lennon Miller, the standout, and hopefully
00:10:22with more experience and maybe a year or two down the line, he'll be someone who could
00:10:25step up to the squad.
00:10:27The other big thing, you talk about Poland, I thought with a bit more of an adventurous
00:10:32attitude, maybe we could have taken something from the Poland game. We didn't. You then
00:10:37get into Portugal, which is not a free hit, but it's not one you'd expect to win. I still
00:10:42think our biggest problem, never mind the U21s, we just can't score goals and we can't
00:10:46defend.
00:10:48I think that's why they get paid the big bucks, isn't it? The strikers. Especially at that
00:10:53elite level, it's the strikers that can make a difference. Just looking at Ronaldo, if
00:10:58they only had one chance, one goal, and that's it, wrapped up. Scotland's problem is all
00:11:03their best players are either full-backs or centre midfielders. They can influence the
00:11:08game, but they can't put the ball in the back of the net. I think that's probably where
00:11:12Scotland's lacking, is a real out-and-out number nine that can change a game with a
00:11:17strike of his right or left foot.
00:11:19You can always tell when a manager's under pressure, usually the captain's come out and
00:11:23saying, let's get behind him. I don't think Steve Clarke's under as much pressure as maybe
00:11:27some people are making out. I can understand where Andy Robertson's coming from. You just
00:11:34have to look at this run, hope that you can somehow come up with a few special results
00:11:40along the way. I think you'll be given all the way until it's mathematically impossible
00:11:45to qualify for the World Cup.
00:11:46I think that Steve's honest enough to, if we don't qualify for the World Cup, I think
00:11:50he would step down anyway. I don't think it would be a decision that the SFA would have
00:11:54to make. I think he'd be honest enough to say that enough was enough and he would step
00:11:57down. On one hand, there's a section of the support I'll just never really take to Steve
00:12:03Clarke. They'll look at his record, 1-1 in 14, that backstairs opinion up, of he's not
00:12:08the man for the job. There's others who see positives in the team, they know we're playing
00:12:12against very, very tough nations. In that run of 1-14, we've played five or six of the
00:12:18best teams in Europe. They'll be wanting us to go and pick up points in the next few games.
00:12:24I don't think he's under enormous pressure. If it goes 1-16, 1-17, 1-18, the calls will
00:12:33become louder for his head. I'm quite happy with him, I'm still behind him and I think
00:12:38he's the right man for the job at the minute.
00:12:42Scott?
00:12:44His hands are tied in terms of the areas we're speaking about, which ultimately decide games.
00:12:52We just don't have that next level up quality that gives you that bit of X-factor. I don't
00:12:59think we have it up there.
00:13:00Let me ask you this, you are obviously going through your coaching badges. You do look
00:13:07at things intensely at the moment you're analysing it. We all have a chuckle about it because
00:13:11he's one of those guys, once he's done something, we've all got to talk about it with him.
00:13:19There's no basis to that.
00:13:24Can you tell us what position he played and whether he pushed up?
00:13:27You disabute your board lined up for him to play away later on.
00:13:31When you look at it, it's alright for all of us looking and saying we can't score goals,
00:13:35we can't defend.
00:13:37We can score goals from midfield.
00:13:40Absolutely, but it's not enough. Sometimes we have to score two goals to get a draw.
00:13:44What would you do? Do you look at it and say to yourself, and remember managers look at
00:13:49what they've got available. He tweaked it, he changed the way they were playing in those
00:13:54two games.
00:13:56It was a completely different type of performance that we've seen in Germany. I think that's
00:14:00why there was a lot of positives taken from the game. We did try to build through Billy
00:14:03Gilmore and you've seen the benefits of getting the full backs higher and getting crosses
00:14:07but then there's a chance it flashes across the box to Dykes. I think we should do better.
00:14:12I think it's in the back of the net or maybe I could have squared it across to John McGinn.
00:14:16The problem you've got is when you play the better nations and you only have the two or
00:14:21three half chances, I don't think we have the quality in terms of the areas where we
00:14:26can really punish teams. I know we showed it in Spain but that's well over a year and
00:14:30a half ago now.
00:14:31So for me tactically, I don't think it's actually a tactical issue. I just think it's a
00:14:36personnel issue. It's something as simple as that.
00:14:40There's nothing he can do. He can't get into the transfer market and buy players. He's
00:14:43got what he's got and that's it. There's nobody lurking out there that we should be picking
00:14:47I don't think.
00:14:48I thought Ryan Gould in the Poland game was excellent when he came on. I think he gives
00:14:52you something different in midfield. He's got awareness around the box. There was a
00:14:56couple of times a ball came into him and it's just a simple touch, a wee shaped pass inside
00:15:00it. We didn't really have that in Germany. I think he offers something different from
00:15:04Tomini and Gilmore in the further forward position. So I was happy with him and obviously
00:15:09seeing someone with that pace in the Scotland Strip and Ben Dokes moving forward is going
00:15:13to be a real asset.
00:15:15And we've got Croatia next which we need a hole in the head and then Portugal at home.
00:15:21It doesn't get any easier and I think that's almost from the success that they've had in
00:15:26qualifying, they now have to play these bigger games. I'm sure Steve Clarke's maybe lying
00:15:31in bed at night thinking I wish we didn't do so well in these nation league games because
00:15:35now we have all these top, top nations who have high quality players all over the park.
00:15:42Croatia away would be a tricky one but I think we showed enough against Portugal away to
00:15:46know that we could do something at home. They've had a great record at Hamden against some
00:15:51of the bigger nations so I'm sure they'll be looking at that one to try and pick up
00:15:54three points.
00:15:56Have you got a dual citizenship by the way?
00:15:58I do.
00:16:00I was wondering why you were saying we there.
00:16:02I'm just in amongst the locals.
00:16:07So if Andrew's sitting here you go, they're Australian, Scotland.
00:16:14Just out of curiosity I must ask you, obviously you're married to a girl from Edinburgh.
00:16:21Your kids, will they be playing for Scotland or will there be pressure?
00:16:25If they're good enough they'll play for Australia and if they're not they'll probably play for Scotland.
00:16:30Don't forget he's got his own private Twitter.
00:16:37I'll give you the details later.
00:16:40Good lying time.
00:16:41That was good that.
00:16:43Absolutely.
00:16:45That's Scotland for you. Give us your thoughts on it.
00:16:47It's a conundrum that we've been discussing non-stop.
00:16:50Some people obviously don't want him there.
00:16:54They've had enough of him.
00:16:55Some people obviously realise the weaknesses that we have to choose from in our nation.
00:17:01We're back to what Tam loves.
00:17:03Tam hates international football, hates the break because it does his head in
00:17:08because he doesn't get a chance to use his 12 foot sky dish
00:17:12that he can mobilise and catch Russian television
00:17:15and anybody that's firing out a game.
00:17:19That's what happens in East Kilbride.
00:17:21I'm up there by the way.
00:17:23So we're back to domestic football which we're really looking forward to.
00:17:26The be-all and end-all I think now when you get back to domestic football
00:17:29is at the bottom end we see Kelly, what they're going to have to do to turn it around
00:17:33and then in that break you have that real fallout, Scott, from Rangers and the fans
00:17:39who are looking at the pain of the Old Firm defeat
00:17:43and now thinking, well wait a minute, we want answers.
00:17:46We're getting slightly upset at the way it's going.
00:17:50I mean I saw in the Charity Foundation dinner
00:17:55that Philippe Clement had agreed to do a question and answer with the Rangers fans.
00:18:00There was a banner outside which just basically wanted the board out
00:18:03because they feel as if they've been sleeping on the job.
00:18:08I think it's more than just what's on the football pitch.
00:18:11The problems that Rangers obviously have been playing at hand
00:18:13and which didn't go down well.
00:18:14Guys being moved out of their seats and what have you.
00:18:17But ultimately when the team's performing on the pitch it takes away from everything.
00:18:22So Philippe Clement's job for me is, we're now in September,
00:18:26I think Sunday's going to be a real test to see what team he picks
00:18:30based on the Celtic game that we've seen before the break.
00:18:33So Sunday's huge for Rangers.
00:18:36I think by now he should know what his strongest team is
00:18:39and that doesn't mean to say the best players
00:18:42but the team who's going to play as a unit and get something out of the game
00:18:46because that's going to be a real tough game for them at time of day.
00:18:48Do you think it needs, Ryan, drastic changes from the fallout from a defeat against Celtic?
00:18:54No I don't think so.
00:18:55I think we all got caught up in it.
00:18:57I think if you look at it, Celtic played really well that day
00:19:01and Rangers weren't up to it.
00:19:03Now the proof will be in the pudding
00:19:05as if the next couple of games they're below that standard
00:19:08but I think they're allowed an off day
00:19:11it just so happened to be against Celtic
00:19:13and all the fallout that comes from that
00:19:14but I think they've definitely got enough to go up to Tanner Dyson
00:19:17and put on a performance.
00:19:18I think what Rangers fans want to see is
00:19:20a performance, a good win
00:19:23and get back on track and start putting a run of results together
00:19:26which they've not really done this season.
00:19:28But to take you to task on that,
00:19:30Rangers fans and you know the mentality of fans of the top two clubs
00:19:35they're not happy that the off days are coming regularly against Celtic.
00:19:40True, but if they're being brutally honest
00:19:42I think Celtic are that far ahead of them
00:19:45that that's not what they should be comparing themselves at
00:19:49at this moment in time.
00:19:51I think that the way that both clubs are run
00:19:54just look at the players that are coming in, players that are going out
00:19:57Celtic have a much more stable, well run club than Rangers do
00:20:02so I think at this moment in time
00:20:03just worry about what they're doing
00:20:05put in a good performance against Dundee United on Sunday
00:20:09and just start slowly building that confidence up
00:20:11and coming into the next Old Firm game
00:20:15making sure that they've not lost any
00:20:17I think it's five points now
00:20:18making sure that gap's not even bigger
00:20:20and giving them an opportunity at Ibox to put those things right.
00:20:23Yeah, I always get worried Tam
00:20:25when you see a banner that's displayed outside a ground
00:20:29or indeed ahead of a Q&A with the manager
00:20:33and raising funds for charity
00:20:35Rangers fans would have wanted to hear
00:20:38his immediate reaction face-to-face at that dinner
00:20:42I always think if you hear the manager
00:20:45and you're sitting in his company
00:20:46you get a greater sense of whether he's passionate about it
00:20:50whether you feel as if he's got the way out
00:20:53When I saw the banner I thought to myself
00:20:56is that a fair reflection of all the Rangers fans
00:20:59maybe this complacency that they thought
00:21:03from Douglas Park to John Bennett
00:21:07or is that just maybe a small minority?
00:21:11I don't know if it's a small minority Peter
00:21:13I think that they'll be disappointed
00:21:14that they're not spending more money on players
00:21:17but I think when Philip Clement was interviewed for the job
00:21:19I think it was out of him and Kevin Muscat
00:21:21I think they were the two main candidates
00:21:23I'm absolutely certain that the board at Rangers
00:21:25would have said this is what you've got
00:21:26this is what you've got to do
00:21:27you've got to cut the wage bill
00:21:29which they've done Peter
00:21:30you've got some big players on big money at Rangers
00:21:32that they've got ready in the summer
00:21:34this is the money you've got to spend
00:21:36and they have spent a little bit
00:21:38they have spent money
00:21:39but the problem was Peter
00:21:40that the previous manager wasted a lot of money
00:21:44he spent a lot of money
00:21:45and wasted a lot of money
00:21:46and he had to get rid of those players
00:21:47and bring others in
00:21:48so they're always going to be compared to Celtic
00:21:51but I totally agree with Ryan
00:21:52I think that Rangers are working after themselves now
00:21:54they've just got to focus on themselves winning games
00:21:56and not compare themselves to Celtic
00:21:58because I think Celtic are miles ahead of Rangers
00:22:01on and off the park
00:22:02they are miles in terms of player quality
00:22:05I think what the fans are frustrated about
00:22:07is the manner of defeat to Celtic
00:22:09because a team can have better players than you
00:22:12but you can still work hard
00:22:13you can still get back in numbers
00:22:14you can still close down spaces
00:22:16make it hard for these players to go on the ball
00:22:18but I think that's where the real gripe came from
00:22:20Well who didn't run?
00:22:21Just because you see Kyogo run 60 yards
00:22:24who didn't step up in your mind
00:22:26that the Rangers fans will be looking
00:22:28and are incensed at right now
00:22:30There was moments in the game
00:22:31where you could take every player
00:22:34but they could probably have done more
00:22:36but that comes from the manager
00:22:38we've spoken about it before
00:22:39he needs to get players on the park
00:22:41yes they might not play the football Celtic are going to play
00:22:43but they need to do what they need to do
00:22:45to get a result on a Saturday or a Sunday
00:22:47and I don't think the fans have seen that
00:22:49Yes and you know again
00:22:51you mentioned there that
00:22:53they will have enough
00:22:55to go to Tanadise and win
00:22:56which is absolutely
00:22:58what the Rangers fans will be hoping for
00:23:00I've still yet to see
00:23:02a style
00:23:03I've still yet to see a pattern
00:23:05that suggests this is a Rangers side
00:23:07here's the blueprint
00:23:09this is the DNA of the way they're going to play
00:23:11and by the way here's the 11 that I know
00:23:13barring injury or suspension
00:23:15this is the 11 I know they're going to play
00:23:18when I look at Rangers teams
00:23:20in the past you could dry them off
00:23:22you could dry them off who's going to start
00:23:24I think that's probably another thing
00:23:26that's annoying the Rangers fans
00:23:28is that if they could see something or hold onto something
00:23:30I think all football fans have that
00:23:32desire or dream when they see a team
00:23:34if it just gives them something back
00:23:36to be able to support them
00:23:38and follow them on
00:23:40that's not really happened at all this season
00:23:42so I think they need to have a
00:23:44not a reset
00:23:46but a clear indication of how they're wanting to play
00:23:48what they want in their team to be all about
00:23:50and then go out and do it
00:23:52and that's going to be up to the manager and players
00:23:54but like you said, Dundee United's got off to a great start
00:23:56they'll understand that
00:23:58Rangers are coming off the back of an
00:24:00international break and again it's different
00:24:02for the bigger clubs at international break
00:24:04a lot of their players will be away for
00:24:06a week, eight, nine days
00:24:08so they wouldn't have had the time that Dundee United's possibly had
00:24:10in terms of coming up with a game plan
00:24:12but I would hate to be a
00:24:14Rangers board member
00:24:16if it sort of goes pear-shaped on Sunday
00:24:18Yeah, I mean I'm looking
00:24:20Mirami's got a good bit of
00:24:22feedback from the game against Albania
00:24:24you've got Igemani
00:24:26there who's obviously hoping to come in
00:24:28Raskin's got to play regularly
00:24:30are there other players that you think
00:24:32you know, well Matondo
00:24:34could be out for a wee while
00:24:36are there other players there that you think
00:24:38should be pushing or will change
00:24:40the look of that side
00:24:42as they move on?
00:24:44Probably the ones you mentioned but the big one for me is Balogun
00:24:46I would play Balogun
00:24:48they've signed the boy proper
00:24:50for one and a half, two million
00:24:52I've never been impressed so far with him
00:24:54Hang fire, he's just in the door
00:24:56No, I've not been impressed with him Peter
00:24:58I like it but I think Balogun
00:25:00is Rangers' best centre-half still
00:25:02honestly
00:25:04in terms of doing the basics
00:25:06I think they've signed proper
00:25:08as if they're going to build out
00:25:10that's basically what we're all touching on
00:25:12there's no structure
00:25:14within that team that they're moving the ball
00:25:16into a certain area for your best players
00:25:18to go on it, they haven't been playing like that
00:25:20are there mitigating
00:25:22circumstances at all when
00:25:24we're cynical as journalists
00:25:26because we look at it and analyse
00:25:28everything that comes out of a manager's mouth
00:25:30he's made
00:25:32comments like seven players went out for nothing
00:25:34and he had to buy
00:25:36players back in
00:25:39he's had to cut the budget, he's got to get the high earners out
00:25:41so that doesn't really cut any mustard
00:25:43with fans, they just want wins
00:25:45they just want a team on the park
00:25:47and sooner or later
00:25:49the more excuses he gives, the less time he'll be given
00:25:51if they don't
00:25:53I'm looking at their run right now
00:25:55and I'm saying to myself
00:25:57Europe apart, we're going to find out
00:25:59sometimes Europe buys them a wee bit of time
00:26:01because they perform so well in it
00:26:03but you're looking and you're saying to yourself
00:26:05he's got Dundee at home, he's got Hibbs
00:26:07he's got St Johnson, Kilmarnock, St Mirren
00:26:09and then Aberdeen at Pataudry
00:26:11at the end of October
00:26:13he's got to win everything up until the point they get to
00:26:15the real
00:26:17mouth-watering part for me is
00:26:19October will
00:26:21determine whether we think Jimmy Tallien
00:26:23will pick up another manager of the month
00:26:25and then Rangers
00:26:27have to get to October and head to Pataudry
00:26:29and you'd be hoping that
00:26:31the Rangers fans will be seeing a style
00:26:33then that can go and win there
00:26:35I think winning breeds confidence
00:26:37again it gets the fans on side
00:26:39it gets everyone going in one direction
00:26:41and if you're comparing
00:26:43Aberdeen and Rangers
00:26:45they're at totally different levels
00:26:47everyone at Aberdeen's right behind the manager
00:26:49right behind the team
00:26:51riding high
00:26:53you look at Rangers and there's
00:26:55banners outside
00:26:57charity events
00:26:59there's manager complaining
00:27:01about players going out for no money
00:27:03I sometimes feel
00:27:05that managers shouldn't be saying
00:27:07especially at Rangers shouldn't really be
00:27:09commenting on that when half the league
00:27:11doesn't sell anybody for any kind of money
00:27:13I think all of the other managers will be looking at that
00:27:15saying you're the manager of Rangers
00:27:17you have bigger resources, bigger squad, bigger wage bill
00:27:19than the rest of us, what chance do we have
00:27:21so those types
00:27:23of things sometimes don't go down
00:27:25well but he's also just trying to
00:27:27make a point to the Rangers fans that
00:27:29they are on a different level in terms of
00:27:31the money that they can spend on players
00:27:33and the wages that those types of players
00:27:35demand
00:27:37if you take Todd Cantwell for instance
00:27:39and the money that they've gotten
00:27:41for a fee for him in terms of what they would have
00:27:43paid in wages for him over the last two years
00:27:45and then they're only
00:27:47going to get a half a million pound
00:27:49for him on paper
00:27:51so we hear
00:27:53they didn't pay anything for him
00:27:55you would expect a fee for him
00:27:57obviously after two years maybe a bit more
00:28:00but he was
00:28:02the whole world knew he'd put a transfer request in
00:28:04in pre-season and then he was frozen out
00:28:06so how can you then
00:28:08demand more of a transfer fee
00:28:10is it a case now
00:28:12and of course
00:28:14you're now looking and saying to yourself
00:28:16they've gone for quite a bit of time Tam
00:28:18without a chief executive
00:28:20Jim Gillespie was mentioned
00:28:22from St Mirren as possibly
00:28:24going there
00:28:26they've got to come up with somebody
00:28:28who can come in
00:28:30look at what's going on behind the scenes
00:28:32and then come up with a clear plan
00:28:34for everybody to buy into
00:28:36it's a tough job for someone to come in at this point
00:28:38in Rangers
00:28:40you look at the abuse the board members are getting
00:28:42at the minute
00:28:44I don't think the boy
00:28:46Jim Gillespie is going to take it
00:28:48I don't think he's in the running now
00:28:50he's not going to be there
00:28:52Rangers need to get someone in who knows what they're doing
00:28:54this is a big big appointment for Rangers
00:28:56they need to be better
00:28:58they need to get the right appointment this time
00:29:00I think sometimes if you can get
00:29:02someone
00:29:04with a strong voice
00:29:06someone who absolutely can take control of it
00:29:08and in essence
00:29:10let John Bennett get on with the background
00:29:12area of what he should be doing as chairman
00:29:14trying to restructure
00:29:16the club and let the chief executive
00:29:18become the front voice
00:29:20of the club
00:29:22and where they're going
00:29:24what they're going to do, how they're going to conduct themselves
00:29:26less, as you say, chatter
00:29:28about all the things
00:29:30that are being viewed
00:29:32as excuses, Scott
00:29:34what he wants is just basically to get
00:29:36the message, which I think will
00:29:38whoever comes in must echo
00:29:40the chairman's sentiments of saying
00:29:42we've got to give them time, we're going to stick with them
00:29:44I think they're going to stick with them for a long period of time
00:29:46this season
00:29:48the only thing that will derail that
00:29:50is if suddenly
00:29:52you go to Tanadise, you lose 3-1
00:29:54and then all of a sudden
00:29:56the noise becomes unbearable
00:29:58what Phil Clement
00:30:00can affect is what happens on the pitch
00:30:02and how his team is set up
00:30:04that's what his
00:30:06sole focus should be, especially this international break
00:30:08as well, how can we get the best out of the players
00:30:10we've got, that's on him
00:30:12that's not John Bennett or
00:30:14chief executive or fans, he needs to get a team
00:30:16that can do a job and get the wins
00:30:18that he's looking for as a manager
00:30:20he's got to get them on the pitch and structured
00:30:22and go out and perform on a Saturday under pressure
00:30:24that's what his job entails
00:30:26I like to every now and then
00:30:28read out Kenny who's a Dons fan who says
00:30:30playing in Europe is going to kill
00:30:32Rangers, they're going to get hammered at the Todry
00:30:36Like I said, they're flying high aren't they
00:30:38Kenny's in LA, he's not bothering
00:30:40he can throw grenades from there
00:30:42that's how I love
00:30:44Chris Sutton's attitude to punditry
00:30:46I live in the middle of
00:30:48nowhere where nobody can find me
00:30:50in England, hold on to this
00:30:52and I'll come back for the
00:30:54fallout a wee bit later, that's how you
00:30:56do it, you know
00:30:58but it'll be interesting to see
00:31:00how this team
00:31:02bounces back from it, because again
00:31:04we've all established
00:31:08you're not allowed time
00:31:10you've got to bounce back from it, they've got to go and
00:31:12play a Dundee United side
00:31:14I was up at the
00:31:16I'm beating this season in the league
00:31:18Yeah but that's what I'm saying
00:31:20you watch them in the flesh and you see the players they've got
00:31:22and I was impressed with them
00:31:24and by the way this is Jim Goodwin
00:31:26who wasn't fancied and he'd won
00:31:28the bloody first division, they're still at the
00:31:30championship and they're still moaning
00:31:32Yeah they've come up obviously with a great start to the league
00:31:34no question the players and the manager
00:31:36they'll be preying on that Rangers are vulnerable
00:31:38coming up on Sunday
00:31:40I think we will, surely
00:31:42we'll see some changes to the Rangers
00:31:44team on Sunday but Jim Goodwin
00:31:46and his players, they would have seen the vulnerabilities
00:31:48that we all have, the inconsistencies in
00:31:50performance, if they start the game well
00:31:52we'll put Rangers under real pressure
00:31:54Who would you change? You said that you want to see changes
00:31:56I don't know
00:31:58what you think to that, I thought
00:32:00Agamani looked decent when he came on
00:32:02he looked like he wanted the contact
00:32:04I think if I waited to anodise I would
00:32:06maybe go with him, see what you've got
00:32:08give us something different
00:32:10something's got to give
00:32:12Is it that one change?
00:32:14I think
00:32:16we would maybe like
00:32:18to change a few more, you don't know in terms of
00:32:20injuries, you don't know how Raskin's looking
00:32:22at this moment in time
00:32:24doesn't know his best midfield
00:32:26as we've touched on, but I liked
00:32:28what I've seen of him, I heard he played in a bounce game
00:32:30as well during an international break
00:32:32and done really well
00:32:34sometimes that wee focal point can be
00:32:36the difference in terms of how you set your stall out
00:32:38You think he'll win
00:32:40Tanadise?
00:32:42I'm going to say a draw
00:32:44A draw's not good enough
00:32:46No it's not
00:32:48only based on what I've seen this season
00:32:50I don't think Rangers have given anybody
00:32:52a lot to be desired
00:32:54in terms of what type of performance
00:32:56you're going to get, it's been very off the cuff
00:32:58in Dundee United they've been good at home
00:33:00Ryan?
00:33:02I think Rangers will win, I think it'll be scrappy
00:33:04maybe 2-1
00:33:06I think Rangers might nick it Peter
00:33:08We've all played at Tanadise
00:33:10it's not a ground if you're not doing particularly well
00:33:12that you're right next to your away fans
00:33:14or hanging over the away
00:33:16dugout as well, so if Rangers
00:33:18are getting beat you, I think Philip Clement will be hearing about it
00:33:20The other thing
00:33:22about it as well is the boys
00:33:24they won't really
00:33:26because they've just joined us, it's just been
00:33:28two summer signings here, they won't really be
00:33:30aware of the fact that you've been able to slide
00:33:32down one of the back poles just behind the goals
00:33:34at Tanadise
00:33:36That was for Hibs
00:33:38against Dundee United, so I'm
00:33:40hated with Dundee United fans as well
00:33:42Are you the type of person, Ryan, if you
00:33:44score a goal, which again
00:33:46is... Scored against Hibs
00:33:48Are you the type of person who
00:33:50are you a typical Aussie because
00:33:52One of my favourite Aussies
00:33:54Which one?
00:33:56The one for about 3 centimetres
00:33:58Two of them
00:34:00Are you one of those people
00:34:02one of my favourite Aussies
00:34:04is
00:34:06Mark Viduka
00:34:08Good noise up, he's just mental
00:34:10but are you one of those
00:34:12people who celebrate and go
00:34:14crazy?
00:34:16If I score
00:34:18I think it's part of
00:34:20it's kind of almost coming out of football
00:34:22now, you get fined and you get in trouble
00:34:24for it, but I think there's nothing better
00:34:26than if a set of fans
00:34:28or a section of fans have been giving you a stick
00:34:30the whole game and you score and
00:34:32get to get it right up them
00:34:34and I think that's, you get to lose that a little bit
00:34:36now these days, don't you?
00:34:38You're not allowed to do that anymore
00:34:40I'm starting to see why
00:34:42I signed him, he's just a man
00:34:44get it right up them, that's my take
00:34:46here by the way
00:34:48You're not allowed to do it these days
00:34:50and I think fans are getting all
00:34:52sensitive about it, isn't it?
00:34:54Like you're celebrating and you can see fans
00:34:56grown men telling the police
00:34:58you did something to me
00:35:00Giving him dogs abuse for 90 minutes
00:35:02I think that's kind of getting lost in the game
00:35:04I agree with you, are you like that?
00:35:06He's too cool to do that
00:35:08He'd be Declan Rice
00:35:10and I'd be Jack Grealish
00:35:12I wouldn't apologise though
00:35:14I'm just a bit more
00:35:16surprised that I've scored
00:35:18You scored a belter in the Edinburgh derby
00:35:20I did celebrate that one
00:35:22We all celebrated, we couldn't believe
00:35:24you'd scored
00:35:26I think it was beyond 60 minutes
00:35:28It was
00:35:32That's when I was usually coming on
00:35:38I didn't have you down as one of those
00:35:40I did that night
00:35:42Depends on the occasion I suppose
00:35:44That was one of your better ones
00:35:46That was a great game
00:35:48That one was for Lenny to be fair
00:35:50That was the one that
00:35:52Craig Levine had been on him
00:35:54Natural order, absolutely
00:35:56Arne Engels
00:35:58£11 million
00:36:00He's been speaking to
00:36:02the assembled members of the press
00:36:04and you know
00:36:06he's one of those players that
00:36:08I don't think he's fazed by
00:36:10the candidate and about the transfer fee
00:36:12He just wants to go in there and
00:36:14make an impression
00:36:16If he does, I think where he's
00:36:18going to really be judged is
00:36:20can he come into the Celtic side
00:36:22in the European games
00:36:24and make them forget about Matt O'Reilly
00:36:26He's one of those players
00:36:28Matt O'Reilly that the Celtic fans loved him
00:36:30so it's a big tall order for this boy
00:36:32It's tougher for him to get into the Celtic midfield
00:36:34I mean Bernardo, I think he scored for
00:36:36Portsmouth Under-21s, captain of Portsmouth Under-21s
00:36:38Started the season really strongly
00:36:40Karl McGregor I think is the first name on the team sheet
00:36:42really, and Rio Hattati
00:36:44so he's got a job to get into the team
00:36:46I think he will, obviously there's plenty of games to play
00:36:48but you're right, he's got big boots to fill
00:36:50for Matt O'Reilly
00:36:52Hopefully the Celtic fans will forget about O'Reilly
00:36:54and they'll be loving Ingles instead
00:36:56Honestly, you know
00:36:58and by the way
00:37:00if we could
00:37:02give him a bonus
00:37:04He's so happy with himself
00:37:06He really is happy, honestly
00:37:08He sits for ages in his house
00:37:10on his own
00:37:12You've got to think of something
00:37:14To be fair
00:37:16He stole it off his mates this morning
00:37:18because Arne Ingles is in
00:37:20the paper talking about the fact that
00:37:22he wanted the Robbie Williams
00:37:24You stole one last week
00:37:28I don't even know
00:37:30That's the thing about it, we talk about
00:37:32you said Igamani looked good for Rangers
00:37:34I don't know what style
00:37:36Arne Ingles is at the moment
00:37:38I haven't seen enough of him
00:37:40to form
00:37:42any opinion on what style of player he is
00:37:44I'm kind of on the same
00:37:46page as Tam though
00:37:48Paulo Bernardo
00:37:50He could be the man he needs to displace
00:37:52I thought he was outstanding
00:37:54against Rangers, under-21s
00:37:56Old School captain
00:37:58There's definitely a player in there
00:38:00I think he'll get the games
00:38:02to go and see if he can fill that
00:38:04Matt O'Reilly role
00:38:06Ingles will need to come on and impact the game
00:38:08to start off with
00:38:10Brendan Rodgers likes to take his time with some signings
00:38:12Paulo Bernardo will be the guy he needs to
00:38:14get out of that Celtic midfield for me
00:38:16There's some options
00:38:18That's what I'm saying
00:38:20Rangers must be looking at it and just kicking the heels
00:38:22because we're talking about
00:38:24Scott asking what changes
00:38:26you'd make to the Rangers squad
00:38:28and you're sort of like, I don't know
00:38:30They've possibly got £11 million signing
00:38:32struggling to get into the team
00:38:34It's just a total different
00:38:38They're just light years ahead
00:38:40and I think that's such a good thing about Celtic at the moment
00:38:42is that their fans are now
00:38:44trying to think, where do we fit
00:38:46our new £11 million signing
00:38:48our £9 million
00:38:50striker is also on the bench
00:38:52He's not our first choice
00:38:56Who does he scale
00:38:58I thought was really good in the
00:39:00old firm game, so they've just got options
00:39:02all over the pitch
00:39:04and bringing in high quality
00:39:06at least on level
00:39:08whereas the rest of the league don't have that
00:39:10I'm really going to be interested
00:39:12in how he's going to
00:39:14who he's going to select for the Champions League
00:39:16games, Tam, because he's brought
00:39:18these players in and that's for me
00:39:20where he's going to be judged in this
00:39:22first half of the season
00:39:24I think Celtic were a
00:39:2660 minute team last season in the Champions League
00:39:28I think you've seen in games
00:39:30they were in them for 60, 70 minutes
00:39:32and then they had to make changes, the players were tiring
00:39:34and they were bringing players in who weren't up to it
00:39:36I think now they can be a 90 minute
00:39:38team because if you
00:39:40if Trustee starts to bring on scales
00:39:42if Engle starts and maybe
00:39:44Bernardo's on the bench
00:39:46if Kyogo starts, gets tired
00:39:4860, 70 minutes, you bring Ida on
00:39:50You're starting to get real strength and depth
00:39:52in the squad, Peter, where in 90 minutes
00:39:54you can really be competitive and have
00:39:56the same level rather than taking players off
00:39:58and the level drops and then teams
00:40:00Lazio were a great example last season
00:40:02scored in the last kick of the ball at Parkhead, scored two late goals
00:40:04over in Rome
00:40:06That was when Celtic tired in the last
00:40:0825 minutes and were bringing on not the same quality
00:40:10so I think Celtic's squad
00:40:12depth now is going to be very
00:40:14important for the Champions League
00:40:16Helen says Bernardo is
00:40:18brilliant, so clearly Helen's
00:40:20a big fan already
00:40:22and some people are obviously
00:40:24going to wait and see exactly
00:40:26how these players all fit in
00:40:28McCowan won't get a kick
00:40:30says one of our viewers, it'll be interesting
00:40:32to see who
00:40:34really kind of realises
00:40:36they're there, they're in, grab your opportunity
00:40:38the train doesn't stop
00:40:42on two or three occasions to try and get yourself
00:40:44a game in the team
00:40:46you've got to get in there and make an impression
00:40:48and then get the fans on your side and convince
00:40:50the manager as well
00:40:52That's Celtic for you, you can give us your view
00:40:54on it as well, just
00:40:56touch base, you had
00:40:58your comments on Ian Gordon
00:41:00and what he's
00:41:02saying, we're going to be going
00:41:04to have
00:41:06an in-depth look at Hibs at the
00:41:08weekend, what they've got
00:41:10behind the scenes and
00:41:12on the pitch as well
00:41:14you've been quite
00:41:16vocal that you feel as if there's
00:41:18as you call it, green shoots of
00:41:20recovery. Yeah I do, I
00:41:22watched the full game down at Carmarthen, I thought that
00:41:24Hibs deserve to win the game
00:41:26I thought against Dundee deserve
00:41:28to win the game, but they can't see a game out Peter
00:41:30and that's a big issue and it's not just this season
00:41:32it's been last season as well
00:41:34Hibs are 2-1 up
00:41:361-0 up, you just think
00:41:38the other team is going to score, they can't see a game out
00:41:40and they need to get that mentality right
00:41:42to go and see games out because
00:41:44it's individual errors that are costing them, you've seen
00:41:46the boy O'Hara getting caught wrong side
00:41:48against Murray and then
00:41:50the last game against Carmarthen, Jonathan
00:41:52Albita comes across and
00:41:54wipes the striker out, Bruce Anderson
00:41:56goes up and scores, but I've seen enough
00:41:58from Hibs, I thought Triantis was superb
00:42:00in the middle of the park, I wasn't sure about him
00:42:02as a centre back, as a centre midfield player
00:42:04I thought he looked really good, I think
00:42:06Kwon's a great signing, I thought he was good as well
00:42:08Kukerevic led the line well
00:42:10Listen, I fancy
00:42:12Hibs to beat St. John's on Saturday
00:42:14but I fancy them to beat St. John's last season
00:42:16St. John's went and mugged them, as gals I will tell you
00:42:18It wasn't a mugging
00:42:20Ryan
00:42:22He came out with a mask on
00:42:24I was there
00:42:26and for about 85 minutes
00:42:28The boy Miethoff was like an octopus
00:42:30man
00:42:32In the St. John's column last year there was
00:42:34nothing in it until Sidibe
00:42:36you mugged him, it was unbelievable
00:42:38A win's a win
00:42:40Absolutely it was by the way
00:42:42I liked that one Gowser, was he giving you one?
00:42:44Honestly
00:42:46Hibs were absolutely coasting
00:42:48and then you, I could
00:42:50not believe it, I sat in the press
00:42:52box and I looked and I went
00:42:54I can't believe it, they're absolutely
00:42:56rank rotten
00:42:58I hate to say that to you
00:43:00It was four games
00:43:02I'd gone to see St. John's
00:43:04Some twist of fate
00:43:06I'd gone to see St. John's about three or four times
00:43:08and in that
00:43:10six week period I thought God almighty
00:43:12they've mugged Hibs
00:43:14but on these games
00:43:16they secured survival
00:43:18The difference between
00:43:20Hibs getting top six
00:43:22I remember that game at Easter Road
00:43:24All the pressure was on Hibs
00:43:26I think if they won that game they were safe
00:43:28or they were definitely in the six
00:43:30and we fed off that
00:43:32we said
00:43:34I think we played about five
00:43:36it was just one striker
00:43:38trying to break us down
00:43:40It's six in front of them
00:43:42Craig was buzzing
00:43:44Exactly
00:43:46Yeah listen it's all about winning
00:43:48games
00:43:50So that's the games for the weekend
00:43:52Just out of curiosity
00:43:54on your old side St. John's
00:43:56they're taking a stance against old
00:43:58Firm fans again
00:44:00They're quite keen not to
00:44:02obviously
00:44:04give them as many tickets
00:44:06as possible
00:44:08They're calling on the fans to come out and support them
00:44:10so that they can limit the influence
00:44:12that huge amounts of Celtic and Rangers fans
00:44:14can at MacDermott Park
00:44:16I might have picked this up wrong but I don't think they've cut it
00:44:18I think they're just making it exact
00:44:20They've sort of known they're only going to keep
00:44:22what they've
00:44:24historically been given
00:44:26and that was kind of a message for the new
00:44:28chairman in place to try and
00:44:30encourage the Saints fans to get out there
00:44:32and fill the home section
00:44:34Well he said they're under our new policies
00:44:36to be announced later this week
00:44:38opposing fans will be limited to the Ormond and North
00:44:40stands and one section of the
00:44:42Geoff Brown stand which is legally
00:44:44required to accommodate disabled seating as well
00:44:46So
00:44:48hopefully from his
00:44:50point of view and others who
00:44:52have taken this stance
00:44:54the fans have to respond by giving them the money
00:44:56Yeah I think you look at the teams
00:44:58that have done that
00:45:00St Mirren's been one that they've been quite
00:45:02vocal about that their own fans
00:45:04have really appreciated that and have turned
00:45:06out in their numbers but they obviously did well last year
00:45:08and Saints is
00:45:10a really well run club
00:45:12obviously they have a new
00:45:14chairman and new things now but
00:45:16I used to enjoy it there that they had
00:45:18a good core group that came out
00:45:20to support every week and
00:45:22hopefully they can get a few results
00:45:24and have a lot of home fans coming to games
00:45:26or wanting to come to games I think would be
00:45:28better to be put it but
00:45:30it is tricky when you're trying to weigh up
00:45:32all those extra money that
00:45:34Celtic and Rangers can bring with their away
00:45:36support but I think that's probably a step
00:45:38in the right direction for Saints fans
00:45:40and what they want to do as a club
00:45:42Have they got anyone against Tebbs?
00:45:44Yeah, home win
00:45:46Home win
00:45:48Absolutely
00:45:52Listen, that column of his
00:45:54as you will notice over
00:45:56the whole season
00:45:58it goes up and down, he changes his mind
00:46:00every week
00:46:02David Gray all the way
00:46:04He's the right man for the job
00:46:06Is he your pal? No, I don't know him at all
00:46:08Even better because anybody that's
00:46:10Tam's pal gets the Dan Mac
00:46:12It's as simple as that
00:46:14Just quickly on the
00:46:16other two, Dundee United
00:46:18we've talked about Celtic Hearts
00:46:20just on that point
00:46:22we'll get to you and your old club again
00:46:24but
00:46:26he needs Celtic like a
00:46:28hole in the head Stephen Naismith but the one thing
00:46:30that I think a number of people are coming out
00:46:32and saying is listen, give him
00:46:34give him some time, he's got credit in the
00:46:36bank even if it doesn't go well against Celtic
00:46:38Is that the case or do you think the
00:46:40groundswell now is starting to
00:46:42gather pace? It's the case
00:46:44It might not be the case if Koman looking
00:46:46and Hibs both pick up wins
00:46:48at the weekend and there comes a wee bit of
00:46:50distance in, or it's a heavy defeat
00:46:52at Celtic Park so
00:46:54listen, it's still early on in the season
00:46:56but
00:46:58you'll not be looking forward to going to Celtic Park
00:47:00obviously the way they've been playing
00:47:02Does he get credit in the bank?
00:47:04You only get credit until it runs out, you know
00:47:06and that comes off performances, they've obviously not been winning enough
00:47:08in terms of what the fans are looking for
00:47:10They've had the European thing
00:47:12as well which obviously plays in terms of
00:47:14squads which a lot of mangers come out and say
00:47:16pre-season sometimes start
00:47:18a bit earlier than other teams so
00:47:20the break they had from the previous season
00:47:22isn't as much as they would probably
00:47:24have wanted for a player to get recharged but
00:47:26the only thing that helps these situations is
00:47:28wins
00:47:30Can you see a heavy defeat?
00:47:32I think everything points in a heavy defeat
00:47:34I think they'll take a little bit of credit
00:47:36I think they won there last year
00:47:38and had a good couple of performances
00:47:40against Celtic
00:47:42but yeah, there just seems to be
00:47:44something not quite right at the minute
00:47:46I can't believe there isn't any, we talk about
00:47:48structure and style and how the teams play
00:47:50I can't believe
00:47:52you know, when I looked, we were guilty of it
00:47:54Tam, we all said
00:47:56they've gone in early and got some Scottish players
00:47:58and got some good signings well
00:48:00ahead of time
00:48:02so everybody knew they were coming
00:48:04I don't see any pattern
00:48:06to them at the moment
00:48:08It's just not gelled as much as I think fans
00:48:10and everyone expected it to do
00:48:12the players that they did sign in the summer
00:48:14on paper looked like really good
00:48:16players to come in
00:48:18and do well for Hearts
00:48:20I don't know if it's the
00:48:22being knocked out of Europe
00:48:24they seem to be lacking ideas if Shanklin's not
00:48:26scoring, which is a massive
00:48:28issue because he seems to be
00:48:30not off it but
00:48:32I think he's set his own standard
00:48:34with the last couple of seasons with the amount of goals
00:48:36he's scored
00:48:38he's a real vocal point for that team
00:48:40and who knows
00:48:42it could be a kickstart to the season
00:48:44if they go in there and put in a good performance
00:48:46at Parkhead but
00:48:48I do worry for Hearts
00:48:50at the weekend. Yeah, couple of points still to talk
00:48:52about, stick with us here on the programme
00:48:54we'll be reading out some of your messages
00:48:56after the headlines. Hi there, I'm Kerry
00:48:58and here is your Daily News update on Wednesday the 11th
00:49:00of September brought to you by Arnold Clark
00:49:02England captain Harry Kane says
00:49:04that last night's win over Finland couldn't have gone
00:49:06any better after the striker netted both goals
00:49:08for his national site. So to
00:49:10score a couple of good goals
00:49:12a couple of nice finishes and help
00:49:14the team win 2-0 was
00:49:16pretty much perfect
00:49:18proud night for me and the family
00:49:20and now we can enjoy it. On the journal show this
00:49:22week, sports writer Andrew Smith believes the pressure
00:49:24is on for Celtic to win their opening game
00:49:26of the Champions League at Celtic Park next Wednesday
00:49:28If they don't win, if they can't
00:49:30win that game against Champions
00:49:32League first-timers at home
00:49:34on the opening night, in the form
00:49:36they're in, they're screwed. And finally
00:49:38Rangers will not be appointing St Bidden
00:49:40Chief Executive Jim Gillespie as their new CEO
00:49:42Sticking with Rangers, could James
00:49:44Tavenier be on his road out of Ibrox
00:49:46as former Rangers manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst
00:49:48continues his search for a new right-back
00:49:50to join his side Besiktas. For all the
00:49:52latest breaking headlines be sure to hit the like button
00:49:54and subscribe to PLZ Soccer's YouTube
00:49:56channel. That James
00:49:58Tavenier move out of Rangers
00:50:00just that story will not go away
00:50:02I just can't see it happening
00:50:04I just think it would be an act of absolute
00:50:06lunacy unless somebody's trying to flush money
00:50:08out of somewhere in Turkey
00:50:10but I can't...
00:50:12I just can't see it happening
00:50:14I don't know what it is, it's
00:50:16mental. I'm also gobsmacked
00:50:18I'm not his agent
00:50:20I just basically spoke to him
00:50:22in an interview
00:50:24as you know a month ago
00:50:26I just can't believe that Eric Sport
00:50:28is the best option
00:50:30for Ryan Jack
00:50:32Depends how much money he's getting
00:50:34I think Ryan would be looking
00:50:36for good money and I think that rules out
00:50:38a lot of clubs here
00:50:40missing the money in Turkey
00:50:42is fantastic
00:50:44so maybe he's going to offer a big deal to go
00:50:46and sign with him, which I don't blame him, he's 32, 33
00:50:48maybe he signs a two year deal
00:50:50he's probably a way down
00:50:52there in this country
00:50:54naturally you'd want to
00:50:56come down if you were getting older
00:50:58Yeah absolutely, but if he
00:51:00suddenly thinks he doesn't fancy
00:51:02it and he's waiting and he's waiting
00:51:04maybe one of them could come into the equation
00:51:06he would still be a good signing I think
00:51:08I think he'd be a great, if Ryan Jack's fit he's a great signing for any side
00:51:10I think
00:51:12we're a far
00:51:14better team when he played midfield for them
00:51:16especially in the European games, a lot of control
00:51:18so he did say he wanted
00:51:20to play abroad, it's something that's come up
00:51:22obviously you hear the horror stories about Turkey
00:51:24in terms of getting paid and all that as well
00:51:26which obviously comes with it
00:51:28so hopefully it works out for him
00:51:30and he gets back playing and stays fit, that's the main thing
00:51:32Yeah, absolutely
00:51:34Ross County, Dundee, Ross County
00:51:36having it all going their own way
00:51:38they are down at the bottom end of the table as well
00:51:40Dundee, I mean everything's
00:51:42just looking great in that city for them as well
00:51:44Yeah I think
00:51:46Ross County probably along with
00:51:48St Johnson, I think they're the two
00:51:50early favourites to be battling
00:51:52down at the bottom
00:51:54I think Dundee have
00:51:56it'd be interesting to see how they go
00:51:58without McCowan, I think they've kind of
00:52:00probably behind the scenes been preparing to
00:52:02have or be without
00:52:04him from the
00:52:06end of the transfer window but
00:52:08I think Dundee will have too much
00:52:10for Ross County and I fully expect
00:52:12Dundee to win
00:52:14Yeah fancy Dundee, a lot of goals in them Peter
00:52:16Yeah absolutely
00:52:18Yeah Dundee
00:52:20Everybody, thank you
00:52:22to so many of you from
00:52:24all across the country
00:52:26JJ says hello from Oban
00:52:28Doesn't matter where it is
00:52:30Australia, New Zealand, Oban
00:52:32all are watching and contributing
00:52:34and also
00:52:36as far as the
00:52:38empty seats are concerned, teams would rather look
00:52:40at empty seats rather than
00:52:42full seats, they're idiots
00:52:44Gary Connor says on this
00:52:46decision, well listen as
00:52:48each chief executive
00:52:50comes up and says you've got
00:52:52to come out, it's down to the fans, if they
00:52:54back them, all well and good
00:52:56the financial pain if they don't come out
00:52:58is there for all to see
00:53:00which is why they look towards
00:53:02your Hearts, your Hibs, your Aberdeen, yourselves
00:53:04at your Rangers and sell them a lot
00:53:06of tickets, the proof is in the pudding for the home fans
00:53:08to respond, Graeme Caldwell says
00:53:10Peter was that Scott Allen covering the
00:53:1221 game last night as
00:53:14co-commentator, really
00:53:16good insight and analysing of
00:53:18the game, that's a nice
00:53:20little compliment to you
00:53:22Bit long winded
00:53:24starting to talk about formations and everything
00:53:26but other than that, just concentrate on
00:53:28the game, so was that
00:53:30a truth or was that a lie?
00:53:32The first bit he did, you know
00:53:34he was very complimentary to
00:53:36which is great isn't it?
00:53:38Was it Clyde now?
00:53:40We like Clyde
00:53:42We used to work at Clyde
00:53:44We like Clyde by the way
00:53:46I appreciate that, thank you
00:53:48Good feedback
00:53:50As long as you, as they say
00:53:52I think it was Rudyard Kipling who mentioned
00:53:54if you can treat
00:53:56the praise
00:53:58and the criticism
00:54:00with disdain, you know
00:54:02you've got to measure it up and say I can take the good
00:54:04and I can take the bad, is that fair?
00:54:06Might have been Mark Twain, I'm not quite sure
00:54:08You just butchered that quote there didn't you?
00:54:10No but it's just the same
00:54:12He's absolutely high as a kite now
00:54:14because somebody said
00:54:16It was Graham Allen
00:54:18Yes brother
00:54:20If somebody
00:54:22letters him we've got to read that out as well
00:54:24Which brings me nicely to
00:54:26talking about goalscorers, boy
00:54:28would Scotland love a Harry Kane
00:54:30Interestingly enough
00:54:32the funny thing is, as we just
00:54:34finish off, if Scotland
00:54:36had just one player
00:54:38just a Harry Kane, the same way Wales had
00:54:40a Gareth Bale, if we had a Harry Kane
00:54:42Steve Clarke would be
00:54:44viewed as a totally different manager
00:54:46Steve Clarke had
00:54:48Romelu Lukaku at West Brom
00:54:50and he was being tipped for the Chelsea
00:54:52job, if Steve Clarke had a Harry
00:54:54Kane in Scotland who could paper over
00:54:56cracks, that's sometimes
00:54:58the difference, you get a half chance
00:55:00you mentioned it, the ball comes across
00:55:02the face of the box, I'm thinking
00:55:04get your foot over it and put it back
00:55:06across the goalkeeper and Lyndon Dyke
00:55:08scores
00:55:10I think a lot of international countries
00:55:12would love a Harry Kane
00:55:14we just haven't seen it had one
00:55:16for a long time, and I think
00:55:18you look at last night, I think
00:55:20it wasn't a real natural, kind of number
00:55:22nine in the Scotland team until
00:55:24Bobby Wales came on, I thought
00:55:26it looked sharp, I don't know if you know
00:55:28I know, way for Kelly
00:55:30It's something as a country, you look
00:55:32at it, the fact is, even at kids football
00:55:34they play with one up now, so
00:55:36back in the day you had two up, you're halving
00:55:38the half amount of kids that used to want to
00:55:40play as a striker, nearly all
00:55:42through age groups, you'll see
00:55:44obviously with your son there's one striker up front
00:55:46so you're halving already the amount of kids
00:55:48playing striker
00:55:50we want to try and obviously
00:55:52that's the point we're making as a country
00:55:54we need to make some number nines now
00:55:56Too many people want to be number ten
00:55:58which is just killing it for everybody
00:56:00There's 101
00:56:02Old Cam now is it?
00:56:04There's 101 midfielders
00:56:06There's only two
00:56:08I don't know, I'm not being
00:56:10disrespectful to yourself, but when I was growing up
00:56:12there was only really two numbers that you
00:56:14wanted to play
00:56:16total, the rest of them were just the supporting cast
00:56:18you were either a number seven
00:56:20or a number ten, that was it
00:56:22Nine was their thing though?
00:56:24Who gives a hoot, if you've got a number ten in there
00:56:26it's just the engine of the team
00:56:28I was never that high up
00:56:30to be a number ten
00:56:32Did you ever play any other position other than full-back?
00:56:34Centre mid
00:56:36I played with him at RUnited
00:56:38when I was a kid
00:56:40Did you enjoy that?
00:56:42Had to do all his dirty work
00:56:44Big powerhouse right up
00:56:46box to box
00:56:48Relegated
00:56:50That's exactly right
00:56:52Honestly you've saved me the last two minutes of the show
00:56:54Didn't score enough goals to keep us up
00:56:56I was banging him in man
00:56:58Possibly
00:57:00He scored four goals and he used to walk around
00:57:02I thought I'd keep this club up myself
00:57:04Well done mate, we've got a beat 5-4
00:57:08Brilliant
00:57:10Anyway, I often wonder if people have played
00:57:12different positions because
00:57:14as we talk about it, Ajax
00:57:16in the early 70s
00:57:18Renis Mikkels and Johan Cruyff
00:57:20were of the opinion, listen, you might think
00:57:22you're a centre forward
00:57:24you're going to play and we're going to train today
00:57:26and you're going to play right back
00:57:28and some of the players would look
00:57:30and say well you're going to appreciate
00:57:32what it's like to play right back
00:57:34and what they see in the game
00:57:36to understand where they want the ball
00:57:38how they make a run
00:57:40what their role is in their job
00:57:42and appreciation sometimes
00:57:44because I always say
00:57:46I get pelted
00:57:48I can't see him playing
00:57:50the reason why I say that is because
00:57:52can he play right back just one game?
00:57:54I get pelted off a guy who said
00:57:56that I was complimenting Derek Johnson too much
00:57:58but Derek played centre half
00:58:00he played midfield for Rangers
00:58:02he played up front, Chris Sutton played centre half
00:58:04for Celtic at one point
00:58:06and not for just one off games, he played for a
00:58:08the cup final as well
00:58:10you need to go for the wee silver ones
00:58:12not the black boots
00:58:14World Cups
00:58:16Absolutely, and just on that point there
00:58:18Harry Kane, I always think
00:58:20you need to be special if you're wearing gold boots
00:58:22I remember wearing
00:58:24silver boots Peter, when I was at Hibs
00:58:26I signed a deal with Nike
00:58:28and I was flying, I was buying goals
00:58:30and I had an old pair of Umbro specials
00:58:32big hole in them
00:58:34but I was scoring goals
00:58:36so I got these boots and we were playing
00:58:38I think it was Dundee at home at Easter Road
00:58:40and I had these bright out of the box, bright silver Nikes
00:58:42probably almost as loose as a looking stern
00:58:44that I'm going, raging
00:58:46I remember an absolute shocker
00:58:48first half of an hour
00:58:5040 minutes, half time
00:58:52Bobby comes in, first thing he says to anybody
00:58:54he says to me, you've got 2 minutes to get them
00:58:56half, are you coming half?
00:58:58So I took them half and put my other
00:59:00boots on and they hooked me after 10 minutes
00:59:02Didn't make any difference
00:59:04Always
00:59:06blame your tools
00:59:08Bobby Olsen was not
00:59:10a silver boot guy
00:59:12Have you ever
00:59:14played any other position other than that?
00:59:16No, I was mostly a right winger
00:59:18I played right in a 4-4-12
00:59:20I played right midfield
00:59:22I didn't like it out there either
00:59:24it was too much running
00:59:26I preferred playing as a striker
00:59:28but I was used out there because I had a decent pace
00:59:30I'm just going to give a little
00:59:32mention to one of our journalists
00:59:34who joined us in the summer
00:59:36who is in the women's team
00:59:38of the week, Cara Henderson
00:59:40who is our journalist
00:59:42who plays for Partick Thistle as a striker
00:59:44she scored an absolute
00:59:46raker at the weekend
00:59:48Did you see it?
00:59:50She's been showing it to everybody
00:59:54There's people walking past the studios
00:59:56who have just been dragged in to see it
00:59:58but it was a belt around the ball
01:00:00and they had a good 4-0 win over
01:00:02Motherwell, but listen
01:00:04did you see it?
01:00:06I've not, but she was keen to show me when I first walked in
01:00:08You've got to see it
01:00:10It went down as her own goal
01:00:12It hits the keeper's backside
01:00:14but it's still a belter from 25 yards
01:00:16Would you be claiming it?
01:00:18I wouldn't be claiming it
01:00:20Sorry, it's her own goal Cara
01:00:22so I don't know why she's got the goal of the month
01:00:24You are heartless
01:00:26Unbelievable
01:00:28Anyway, well done
01:00:30well worthy of being in the team of the week
01:00:32Great to have Scott here
01:00:34and Ryan and as ever
01:00:36Tam on top for him

01:00:40and he's just punched
01:00:42look at his face, happy as Larry about it all
