00:00U.S. Democrats descended on Chicago with a new presidential ticket and a new confidence.
00:08The four-day Democratic National Convention wrapping up with a speech from incumbent Vice
00:12President Kamala Harris, formally accepting the party's nomination for president.
00:18I will be a president who unites us around our highest aspirations.
00:27A president who leads and listens, who is realistic, practical, and has common sense,
00:38and always fights for the American people.
00:44From the courthouse to the White House, that has been my life's work.
00:51Harris first appeared at the convention on day one, specifically to thank President Joe
00:56Biden for his leadership.
00:59Just a month ago, he was running for re-election and set to be the party's nominee.
01:05But facing fears he wasn't fit to serve another four years, there was a historic switch in
01:09the Democratic ticket, and the torch was passed to Harris.
01:14After a tearful introduction from his daughter, Biden addressed the roaring crowd, listing
01:19his presidency's achievements and praising his intended successor.
01:23Studies show the major bills we have passed actually delivered more to red states than
01:29blue, because the job of the president is to deliver to all of America.
01:39Because of you, and I'm not exaggerating, because of you, we've had one of the most
01:45extraordinary four years of progress ever.
01:48Period.
01:49And when I say we, I mean come on and be.
01:59The outgoing leader becoming emotional as he received a four-and-a-half-minute standing
02:03ovation.
02:10Supporters basked in the four-day event's electric atmosphere, with star-studded performances
02:16and appearances from the likes of television hosts Oprah Winfrey, Little John, John Legend,
02:21Pink and Stevie Wonder.
02:28Also present to endorse Harris' candidacy, prominent Democrats including Hillary Clinton,
02:34the first woman chosen as a presidential nominee, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former
02:39US presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
02:43Many taking aim at Republican candidate Donald Trump.
02:47We do not need four more years of bluster and bumbling and chaos.
02:54Speakers used the event as a platform to promote party policy, including defending abortion
02:59laws, preventing gun violence, the expansion of health care access, raising the minimum
03:04wage and lowering the cost of education.
03:07When we Democrats talk about freedom, we mean the freedom to make a better life for yourself
03:13and the people that you love.
03:15Freedom to make your own health care decisions.
03:23And yeah, your kids' freedom to go to school without worrying about being shot dead in
03:29the hall.
03:33Outside the convention venue, thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators urged the government
03:38to do more internationally and end the war in Gaza.
03:42Their calls not unheard and acknowledged by many inside the arena.
03:48The enthusiasm and determination to lead from what they're calling a place of renewed hope
03:53palpable as the Democrats end this historic convention.
03:58With the race remaining tight and only 73 days left until the elections, the tens of
04:04thousands here eager to do what they can to put their nominees at the country's helm.
