THE TWO GLADIATORS
| Action, Drama | 1964 |

Plot:
In 161 AD, twins were born to the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, and to prevent any future power struggles between the brothers, the emperor told Senator Tarrunio to kill one one of the twins. Instead of killing the child, he gave him to a peasant family to bring up as their own. They named their child, Lucius Crassus. Thirty years later the emperor died and Commodus, the second twin son took over the purple mantle. Commodus becomes a tyrant, who care's nothing of his people's needs. Instead he prefers to be in the arena fighting in the arena with the gladiators, so his corrupt friends take care of things for him. He also loses interest in his mistress Marcia when she tries to get him to consider the people of Rome's needs. Senator Tarrunio contacts the second twin, who has since grown up to be Centurion Lucius Crassus, the beloved of his men, and tells him of his hope that he opposes his despotic brother. Lucius is initially uninterested in his proposal, but when he sees how the people suffer, he accepts the challenge, together with his three friends, fellow centurions, Horatius, Pannuntius and Pompeius and follows the senator back to Rome.

00:01:00Oh
00:01:30Oh
00:02:00Oh
00:02:30Oh
00:02:44No, don't kill me communist no
00:02:52I've got no choice but to do this dirty job, but you were born a prince and will become the Emperor. Why do you do it?
00:03:00Oh
00:03:04Come on
00:03:30Oh
00:03:45One day you'll be killed in the same way you'll be slaughtered by someone without a shred of pity a man like you
00:04:00Oh
00:04:30I think the tyrannous process is out looking for trouble go and make sure he finds it immediately
00:04:48Those magnificent beasts worthy of me tomorrow, I'll fight the two together. That'll be horribly dangerous
00:04:54I'll run them through one after the other and I'll give you the skins to warm your little feet
00:05:00Oh
00:05:03Hail Cleander
00:05:07What's the latest news I've just received a message from your father the Emperor says that he wants you to go and join him immediately
00:05:13in Pannonia
00:05:15By all that gods imagine what it would mean to stay a month away from Rome without the arena
00:05:20Why can't you tell him that I just won't it's impossible to do anything commoners. This is an order from the Emperor
00:05:25Ah, we never paid any attention to orders from the Emperor before
00:05:29you especially Cleander with your companion Leto have managed always to do as you please with the people imprisoning them under false arrest and
00:05:36torturing them whenever you wanted to
00:05:38Always with your consent and don't forget it. All right, I remember but now don't bother me with your orders
00:05:45By the precious girdle of Venus my father wants to lecture me over the terrible shortage of food around here
00:05:50But what fault is it of mine if the idiots are dying of hunger your father wants to have you near him because he's dying
00:05:56Isn't that a sufficiently good reason?
00:05:59I'm leaving immediately. You Leto will come with me. I shall be waiting for you
00:06:10And what else is there for you to do that
00:06:17Your father the Emperor Marcus Aurelius is no more
00:06:28Long live comatose our new Emperor
00:06:45There is millennia, we've got to catch it it's going into that hole
00:06:58What
00:07:04In the name of those is happening over there, what are you chasing?
00:07:08We were trying to catch a rat a fine big one to make a meal of it
00:07:13Surely the divine comatose hasn't by chance placed the tax on Vernon Lee not and I suggest that we invite them to come to the
00:07:19banquet
00:07:22Oh
00:07:27Be traitorous cruel tyrants, why don't you give us a little bread instead of forcing us to eat rats?
00:07:33Go and tell that to your new Emperor comedy
00:07:51I
00:08:21I
00:08:34Commanders of the legions in Pannonia want to continue the war against the barbarians and to destroy them all
00:08:41That was the wish of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius and now I have become the Emperor
00:08:46The old orders have been changed
00:08:51This war is costing us far too much money and the Empire is large enough as it is
00:08:57Also, Rome has had quite enough of fighting wars
00:09:00My people want to amuse themselves and I'm going to see to it that they do
00:09:05They'll have the most fabulous spectacle seen in this city since the first day. It was founded
00:09:21He
00:09:35Stole the bone you threw to your dog
00:09:41No, no, please let me go
00:09:51Don't see
00:09:59Don't drink any more Commodus
00:10:02Marcia, I appreciate your ability and loving not your intelligence
00:10:06And it's because I love you that I prefer you to stop drinking. Sometimes. I'm pleased to imitate Mars and sometimes Bacchus. I
00:10:15Want a woman beside me who doesn't bore me with her stupid chattering
00:10:21Which one of you luscious young creatures wants to bring happiness into the life of her sad Emperor
00:10:29You come here
00:10:40No, not that way Lito your brutal manners will frighten away this pretty little pigeon
00:10:47Sit down
00:10:48What is your name man, Emilia?
00:10:51Emilia
00:10:53Emilia, you're lovely, you know my type. How is it that I've never noticed you before she's only just arrived
00:11:00She's come here from Sabina. That's correct
00:11:02My father was honored with the friendship of Marcus Aurelius and when he died
00:11:06I was granted the privilege of coming here to your court
00:11:11Why don't you embrace me I'm known to be very frigid women
00:11:18Don't listen to her. She talks like that because she's jealous
00:11:25They say binds
00:11:27our famous maternal ancestors
00:11:30Come
00:11:31Come to me beautiful
00:11:33Sabine girl
00:11:36Come here
00:11:37May the gods assist us
00:11:39This one promises to surpass even the lechery of Caligula and I say we must stop it. What do you mean?
00:11:44Tarunius is the second legion under Morupius in Gaul. Yes, it is
00:11:48Morupius is in Calisius not far beyond the Rubicon the Rubicon, huh?
00:11:52History is repeating itself. So once again, the die is cast. He's prudent Tarunius. He's got his eye on you
00:11:58Don't commit yourself to hastily
00:12:01You know, I'm your friend and my opinion of all this one can lose one's head these days
00:12:06and
00:12:07We can only be of some use as long as we're able to remain alive
00:12:10I know Pertinax and I know from experience that to leave a banquet before it is finished is offensive to Caesar
00:12:16But I repeat the die is cast in any case tonight. They're all blind drunk and no one will notice me
00:12:40Hey
00:12:55Come here listen to me
00:12:59What is it I am a senator and I'm looking for the centurion Lucius Crassus, do you know him?
00:13:04Can you tell me where to find him? I was going to him myself. I'm his first officer good. We'll follow you
00:13:09I don't advise you to do that. It's not a suitable place for senators. He's busy fighting against the ball
00:13:14But the Gauls are under Roman dominion
00:13:17Well, they don't know that perhaps you should tell him about it
00:13:19They've attacked our garrison with twice the number of men we have
00:13:23Lucius sent me to find reinforcements and have you found them not even one soldier. I'm on my way to tell him now. Farewell
00:13:39I
00:14:09Oh
00:14:37You owe me 600 sisters
00:14:39Right
00:15:09Ah
00:15:39Oh
00:16:10Oh
00:16:16Forgive me I haven't time to thank you. Let it go. You owe me another hundred sisters ease. Did you find reinforcements?
00:16:23Yes, but only in promises Marupius can't spare even one legionary, but he told me he's firmly convinced
00:16:28I said we're such good fighters. We can manage alone Lucius. I almost forgot. What is Marupius wants one prisoner left alive the chief of the insurrection
00:16:36Don't let them escape
00:16:39Surrender
00:16:46Round up the prisoners
00:16:56They're a dirty cowardly lot they're descendants of wild pigs
00:16:59It looked as if they were all trying to get me and why not you are the biggest
00:17:03I don't see us go and look for their chief. His name is Tiroles. I hope he's among the prisoners
00:17:07I'm afraid I've already killed him. That's the only thing you're good for. You've got the instinct of a born butcher
00:17:13There was an ugly moment when I thought you were really done for Lucius
00:17:16I saw you disarmed in front of a goal. It was built like a mountain
00:17:19I wish I'd been able to help you out and bring my prize money up to a thousand sisters ease
00:17:23But it simply wasn't possible. How did you get out of that one? Tell me I use a secret blow
00:17:27You can easily find yourself without a sword on the battlefield when your opponent is fully armed in that case
00:17:32You're finished without a secret blow like mine. Ah a fine friend. You are why didn't you teach it to me?
00:17:37I'll do that right now here
00:17:40Take this sword. Come on strike me
00:17:49What do you think of it
00:17:51Fantastic. You've got a kick like a mule. I thought you'd knocked the head off my shoulder. He's that his opponent is swordless
00:17:56He gets careless overconfident and does exactly what you did just now one step forward
00:18:00Then his sword arm up and back ready to strike you
00:18:02You must learn to take advantage of that moment understand and you certainly took advantage of that moment
00:18:07Are you Lucius class? Yes, who are you? He's a senator
00:18:11I've come here from Rome to speak with you. He's probably got an ugly daughter to marry off
00:18:17Go count the prisoners have all the bodies prepared for burning. We're going to leave here immediately good
00:18:21Well, what have you got to say? Let us talk privately
00:18:26What I have to say is for your ears alone
00:18:37That is the absolute truth
00:18:41You must believe me Lucius I
00:18:44Am the brother of Emperor Comodus
00:18:47You must be joking senator. You have a large birthmark dark brown and color on your thigh
00:18:53Well, yes, that's quite right, but so have lots of people in any case
00:18:57What does it mean that I held you in my arms shortly after you were born?
00:19:01Listen carefully to me young man for when you have heard the story there will only be one choice for you
00:19:07obedience
00:19:10Thirty years ago
00:19:11Faustina wife of Marcus Aurelius gave birth to twins
00:19:14One was comatose the other twin was declared to have died at birth, but that was not the case
00:19:20Certain reasons of state made it necessary for us to falsify the truth three of us were present at that moment
00:19:25I my colleague Helvetia's and the centurion Octavius Craticus a guard of the late Emperor. I
00:19:32Was given orders to get rid of the newborn baby
00:19:36The people were to be told that it had died of convulsions in my arms
00:19:40Octavius Craticus was to bring the news to the Emperor and the three of us for a tremendous oath to keep the secret for
00:19:46as long as we lived I
00:19:48Was forced to do it the future of the Roman Empire
00:19:52depended on
00:19:55All the same it was horrible
00:20:05I
00:20:17Reopened my eyes the baby was lying on a heap of branches and leaves as though in a nest without sinking I
00:20:23Saw by this that the gods had given me a sign which must be obeyed. I
00:20:28Rescued the baby and handed him over to a kind peasant family
00:20:31I only told them your name Lucius Crassus gave them a good sum of money and they saw to your upbringing until at the age
00:20:37Of 15 you entered the army. I
00:20:40Wished however to tell the truth to the other two people involved with me in this whole business and they approved of what I had
00:20:46done
00:20:47Shortly after the senator Helvetia's died and Craticus now a general is in Silesia
00:20:53now
00:20:54Centurion Lucius Crassus
00:20:56You know all after 30 years, why do you speak now?
00:21:00I've betrayed my oath because Rome and the Empire are in the hands of a fool and a libertine
00:21:06The heritage of Romulus of Caesar and of Augustus must surely be saved. I
00:21:13Still haven't said I believe this fantastic story
00:21:15But if I do what's it got to do with me?
00:21:18Just what do you want from me? Commodus has to be deposed but Rome will never see again a madman such as he
00:21:26But you shall continue in the steps of Marcus Aurelius the same blood runs in your veins
00:21:32The frontiers of the Empire must be enlarged and reinforced its supremacy over all acknowledged
00:21:38Who can do it but a young man who has been a soldier and one of great valor, too?
00:21:42And you Lucius are all these things
00:21:47No, I'm sorry, I'm afraid I couldn't do it I wouldn't be able to I've always been used to fighting with the legions as a
00:21:53soldier
00:21:55And that's all I ask of you what Rome needs now is a man who has proved strong and true in battle
00:22:02You will have beside you men who are wise in the ways of government who will advise you. Well, you must leave immediately for Rome
00:22:08I'll go before you with senator Pertinax. I will prepare our plan carefully
00:22:13As soon as you arrive in Rome come to my house. I'll be waiting for you. Just a moment senator
00:22:19I can't possibly do it. You're a soldier. You told me a soldier obeys orders
00:22:25Centurion, you know where your duty lies. Yes, but
00:22:38So now I've got a brother a fine twin brother
00:22:43Unfortunately, there are no doubts as to the truth of the information. We are the ones to seize my empire by Zeus
00:22:48I don't want any brothers around
00:22:50In fact, you have none. You may consider him as dead Commodus
00:22:54I
00:23:01Didn't you come immediately the moment you were summoned, but I did come immediately divine Caesar
00:23:08And why are you standing there just like a statue
00:23:12You know you excite me, but I can't possibly make love to a statue
00:23:23I
00:23:38Don't want to force you into making love with me I
00:23:41Want you to desire me and come into my arms spontaneously
00:23:46You see what an advantage an emperor has he may even order a spontaneous kiss
00:23:53Oh
00:24:03By Zeus, you're a pretty witch
00:24:07But that's enough now I must go into battle and you're distracting me
00:24:12You
00:24:19Want to take him from me, don't you I do yes you and what are you hoping for that?
00:24:24He'll marry you you already feel like his empress. Don't you?
00:24:28It's only jealousy that makes you say that Marcia. I've never done a single thing to lure Commodus on and you know it
00:24:33I'm not a fool. You're shamming. You've constantly refused the courtship of all other men. So you'd be free to have the Emperor
00:24:42But you're mistaken
00:24:44Because I love him in every way
00:24:46And I'm not going to allow you to steal him from me. Remember that
00:25:11You
00:25:41You
00:25:52Why in the name of Zeus we have to race in this crazy way to get to Rome
00:25:56I still can't understand since they've decided to give us some leave then. Let's take it easy Rome isn't far now and won't run away
00:26:02I don't see why we have to gallop all the way. I don't want to go on anymore the way we've been going
00:26:08I've got to get to Rome as fast as we can make it. I
00:26:13Can't tell you the reasons now, but when we get there, I think I may be able to explain everything
00:26:20Now let's try to get some sleep at dawn we'll start out again
00:26:29By all the gods I'll arrive in Rome with all my bones broken. Good night friends
00:26:38I
00:27:08I
00:27:30Might have known that a piece of rock
00:27:38I
00:28:08I
00:28:39Oh
00:28:46Well with this fight I only owe you 400 cestuses 500 don't cheat or a worth double
00:28:51They gave me a lot of trouble penances. Hey, does this happen every night around here?
00:28:56Why do you think those Praetorians attacked us like that?
00:28:58Well, either they made a mistake or there must be some very important reason
00:29:02I think the reason was important and it's time. I told you all about it
00:29:09You
00:29:10Incompetent idiot, I'll see to it that you'll be sorry for your inefficiency for the rest of your lives
00:29:15You were beaten and put to flight by three miserable legionaries
00:29:20Just try to make sure you keep them in sight
00:29:23Get on your horses and ride after them
00:29:29And so I promised to Runeus I'd join him in Rome you the brother of Commodus once there
00:29:35I'll know what to do if I'm to believe this fantastic story and what I should do about Commodus you Emperor of Rome
00:29:41Not yet
00:29:42but what happened tonight proves that the story the senator told you was true by the ears of the gods what Horatio says is right and
00:29:48It proves that the Emperor or at least Cleander knows all about it
00:29:51Of course who else would want to make sure of getting rid of you?
00:29:54Now you see why we'd better hurry and get out of this place as fast as we can and avoid all the main roads
00:29:59If we want to get to Rome alive, this is wonderful. We're going to have a great time for this year
00:30:35Oh
00:31:05A
00:31:20Few hours of galloping ahead and we'll be there in pieces
00:31:24But in Rome if we enter Rome by the sublicious bridge, we shouldn't meet any trouble better not
00:31:29They'll be sure to watch all the roads coming from the north
00:31:33We'll go towards the sea we'll cross the Tiber at the mouth and come to Rome from the other side
00:31:37I've done it before and remember the way
00:31:39Let's hurry
00:32:02You
00:32:12Made no mistake Centurion. If you want to earn the gratitude of the Emperor, you'll better make sure they don't escape you
00:32:25Look over there
00:32:27Right on
00:32:51Follow me
00:32:58I'm trying to drive a secret trap. What are we going to tell Lucia the seas behind her?
00:33:03I don't know how to swim. We've got to pass through
00:33:27I
00:33:57I
00:34:20Remember this place well follow me. We'll check them completely
00:34:27I
00:34:57I
00:35:27By the gods if it wasn't for those quicksands, we'd be sure to catch them now, they've got all the time in the world to escape
00:35:36By then they'd crossed the Tiber at the Ford and entered Rome
00:35:39I'm sure an entire Legion couldn't have stopped them from coming here
00:35:43Because you are inefficient a lot of imbeciles you've had them twice in your incompetent hands and you've allowed them to get away easily
00:35:49Idiots, you're underestimating that man Cleander
00:35:52Well
00:35:54If Lucius has eluded two attempts to get him
00:35:58He won't easily get away from a third one prepare all your men quickly and we're sure to get him. Where is he?
00:36:04I'll tell you later
00:36:06We are free to act as we please
00:36:10Fortunately Commodus right at this moment
00:36:14Seems to be otherwise occupied do as I told you
00:36:23It's very upsetting my poor little Marzia, it's more than I ever imagined I could suffer
00:36:30All princes kings and emperors are very susceptible and I've got to admit that Emilia has not been encouraging him
00:36:38She always refuses him and that's a very risky thing to do
00:36:43But even that changes nothing
00:36:46You can't possibly imagine what I'm feeling. Yes, of course I can understand you perfectly
00:36:51I
00:36:52Promise I'll help you
00:36:54You yes, I've loved you for so long. I can't even remember when it started and why haven't you told me before?
00:37:00Declare love to the mistress of Commodus. Don't you think I'm mad?
00:37:05But now I'm going to do you a great service and one day you will reward me well for it
00:37:09I'll wait for my reward Marzia. I know you'll be generous
00:37:16No, no
00:37:21No
00:37:25No
00:37:40Oh
00:37:41You ham-fisted idiot. What's the use of escaping from the Praetorians when I'm doing the best I can. Oh, come on
00:37:48Let me take care of it. Do you remember the wounds? I patched up in Britain lads those were the days. All right
00:37:54We're all indebted to you Pompey. Oh, that's nonsense between friends and comrades
00:37:59There's no such thing as gratitude, but in my warehouse, you'll be comfortable and quite safe now
00:38:05Yes, it was a very old and beautiful tavern once I was forced to close it because of the famine and
00:38:11What's down there the wine cellar? I dug out a passage that leads right down to the Tiber
00:38:15I used it to unload my barrels of wine
00:38:18I'm going to my appointment with senator Tarunius wait here. May the gods go with you Lucius. Thank you
00:38:48Oh
00:39:11Arrest him don't let him escape
00:39:18You
00:39:20You
00:39:44You'll admit it wasn't so difficult after all to capture the Centurion Lucius
00:39:50Yeah
00:40:00Emilia where is Amelia ever brought here at once?
00:40:05Don't bother to call her comrade she won't come. What do you mean?
00:40:09To begin with you'll be interested to hear that your dear twin brother is to be found in the Solaria dungeons
00:40:16That's wonderful news Cleander. You've done extremely well
00:40:20Let's let him stay there for some time so he can ponder the situation
00:40:28What were you saying about Emilia
00:40:31Hmm. Well, she was part of a conspiracy to murder you Lito has already had her imprisoned Emilia. That can't be true
00:40:38You're making it up
00:40:41You really want to possess that girl don't you Commodus? Yes
00:40:45Well, then what situation could be more satisfactory a few days in prison will overcome all her reluctance
00:40:54And
00:40:55The next time she comes before you you'll find her a more reasonable girl. You're right Cleander
00:41:02By the golden mantle of Venus you are perfectly, right
00:41:05That
00:41:11Was a piece of luck I played badly that's all
00:41:17You should never play with friends
00:41:35You
00:41:43Water water you there give us some water
00:41:51You've got to give us some water shut up you heard what Centurion Lucius Crassus said to you
00:41:57Bring him some water at once
00:41:59You know me certainly I do
00:42:01I fought under your command in Gaul
00:42:03Then I lost my right hand and ended up as chief warden here in the salaria prison. Is there anything else you want? Yes
00:42:09some food
00:42:11For everyone very well. It won't be a feast, but I'll do my best for you
00:42:21Thanks friend
00:42:24You what's your name Emilia mines Lucius come and get the water
00:42:31Thank
00:42:49You Lucius
00:42:50You've been very kind to me. Why are you here? I don't know
00:42:55I was allowed to join the court in Rome on the death of my father who was the first counselor to the Emperor Marcus Aurelius
00:43:01But comatose took a violent fancy to me. And from that moment on he wouldn't leave me in peace. I found him repulsive
00:43:08I couldn't bear the thought of having him touch me
00:43:11But what are you charged with? I swear to I don't know not even the Praetorian who arrested me knew what it was about
00:43:18Orders of Cleander he told me Cleander. Do you know who he is a dangerous madman like comatose and you I suppose
00:43:25You don't know why you were arrested either on the contrary. I was prepared for it
00:43:29You see I was playing for very high stakes. I just couldn't win
00:43:34You mean yes, but I have no regrets. I only leave two friends, but haven't you any family? Huh? A
00:43:41Brother can't he do anything for you? Can't he use his influence to help you Centurion?
00:43:47Come over here
00:43:49Open the gate
00:43:59Thanks
00:44:02Tell me please why are you doing all this for me? I don't know or maybe I do
00:44:09Because I have no girl
00:44:12No girl who will ever mourn for me, how did that happen?
00:44:16I've been very stupid. All I ever thought about was fighting wars
00:44:21Because I never met anyone like you
00:44:29You
00:44:39What's the news what's happened they've taken him to the dungeons is he wounded what are they going to do to him?
00:44:45He isn't wounded as for what they're going to do to him. That's not difficult to imagine
00:44:48Then if he's alive, there's still a chance you'd like to attack the prison Horatio's. Is that right? Just said Lucia's free
00:44:54Well, you can forget it. The only thing to do is stay here and hope for the best
00:45:00I
00:45:04Wasn't able to find out anything Centurion I asked of any orders that come for you nothing three days
00:45:11I've been here three days and you're still alive. That's the important thing. I've got to go now. I'll see you later
00:45:30Oh, I'm sorry, I woke you up
00:45:33Tell me once again, you love me
00:45:35I love you, Amelia all your sweet words and your presence here make this horrible dungeon almost bearable now
00:45:41You'll think I'm silly won't you? No, I feel the same way. I
00:45:45Wish I had met you before
00:45:53I'm sorry to disturb you
00:45:55I
00:45:58Come to talk to you Amelia
00:46:01What do you want to make a bargain with you a bargain? Yes, you're in this awful place because of me
00:46:06But I don't want you to be hurt any further. I only want you to get out of Rome at one
00:46:10What do you mean?
00:46:10It's possible for me to get you out of here
00:46:12But you must promise me that you will leave the court and go back to Sabina and stay there have the Centurion Lucius released at
00:46:18Once hurry with those keys
00:46:25Follow me
00:46:55I
00:47:25Our
00:47:29Father wouldn't have been disappointed in the very least. I had a strange feeling
00:47:35It was quite true that I had a twin brother
00:47:37In fact, I couldn't doubt the story Tarunius told the senator was much too stupid and too honest to have invented the whole
00:47:45thing himself
00:47:46Neither am I disappointed. You're just what I thought you'd be a cruel pitiless corrupt man
00:47:52But you won't be on the throne much longer I'm sure you'd do anything to become Emperor wouldn't you brother?
00:47:59I hadn't intended it before but seeing what you are
00:48:03The answer is yes
00:48:07Do you find I'm so excessively dissolute or even worse than Caligula
00:48:11You
00:48:16Weren't you surprised when the Praetorian guards didn't put you to death immediately
00:48:21I'll tell you why
00:48:23Because after all a brother always remains a brother and one can't permit him to die at the hands of vulgar soldiers
00:48:30It's my opinion that a brother
00:48:33Should be quietly eliminated personally certain quarrels must be settled in the family
00:48:41I
00:49:01Have made my decision I'll fight Commodus with all my strength and we'll do our best to help you won't we penunciate surely
00:49:09Thank you my friends we've no time to lose
00:49:12Tarunius told me the people would be on my side because everyone hates Commodus and Cleander. I
00:49:18Saw proof of that when I was in prison. We must prepare a revolution
00:49:22You're right, but we haven't got a lot of time with the Praetorian searching for you all over the place Lucius
00:49:27That's why we'll get started right away Pompey. Have you got some good friends? You can trust capable of inciting the people
00:49:34Certainly I have
00:49:35We'll get going we'll meet in front of six to shop
00:49:41It won't be long before we can get into a good fight, all right, you don't forget just stick close
00:49:46And before this time, I'm really gonna get rich. Are you?
00:49:50These men are very good friends of mine I can guarantee they're the people we're looking for. That's good
00:49:55I'm glad to know you're all going to be with us
00:49:57What are your plans? It won't take much to arouse the people come with me. We're with you Lucius
00:50:03Hey you stop where you are
00:50:07But that you're hiding there nothing it's nothing to cure him nothing let's have a look
00:50:24You're all right
00:50:26Nothing, it's nothing, Declorium, nothing.
00:50:28Let's have a look.
00:50:31Sweet flower.
00:50:32Tell me where you stole it.
00:50:33No, I never stole it.
00:50:34I begged it off some peasants in the country.
00:50:36I walked miles and miles to find it.
00:50:38You lying old fool.
00:50:39Prison will teach you not to lie to me.
00:50:40Give it to me.
00:50:41Give me back my flower.
00:50:42It's for my grandchildren who are starving.
00:50:44Oh, please let me have it.
00:50:45It's mine.
00:50:46It's mine, Declorium.
00:50:47This is the chance I was waiting for.
00:50:49Give me that sword.
00:50:51Leave me a little of it.
00:50:52Have mercy.
00:50:56You coward.
00:51:07Pictures, come out.
00:51:08We're going to overthrow Communists.
00:51:10Coming right away, puppy.
00:51:13Come on down, all of you.
00:51:27Come on.
00:51:38Now we'll march on the imperial palace.
00:51:40When we're in the neighborhood of the Salaria prison, we'll divide up our forces.
00:51:43Mauritius, Planuntius, your men and myself will storm the prison.
00:51:46We'll free Emilia and the other prisoners.
00:51:48At the palace, they'll soon hear of the revolt.
00:51:50They'll send out reinforcements.
00:51:51So when you and your men get to the palace, I don't think you'll find much opposition.
00:51:54We'll free the prisoners before the reinforcements arrive.
00:51:57To the palace.
00:52:10Come on down, you two.
00:52:11Keep going on.
00:52:12The uprising started at last.
00:52:25See you later, puppy.
00:52:26We're going to the prison.
00:52:28Good luck, Lucius.
00:52:55Watch out now.
00:52:56Follow me.
00:53:25Help!
00:53:26Help!
00:53:27To arms!
00:53:29Warriors, tie them up.
00:53:33Sentinels are being attacked.
00:53:34To arms!
00:53:35To arms!
00:53:38Watch out!
00:53:44Warriors, stay here.
00:53:45Warn me when they get away.
00:53:55There were well over a hundred people gathered there who were shouting to overthrow the emperor.
00:53:59Ah, they only want to plunder one of the granaries.
00:54:02Where are you going?
00:54:04I was going to warn Cleander.
00:54:05That's not necessary.
00:54:06Bring in the Praetorians and have them throw those noisy fools off the streets.
00:54:09They'll run off just at the sight of you.
00:54:24To arms!
00:54:50There's no one.
00:54:51Lucius, Lucius.
00:54:52Did they get away?
00:54:53They freed themselves.
00:54:54Good.
00:54:55Be sure to warn us when the Praetorians arrive.
00:54:56Come on.
00:54:57There's no time to lose.
00:55:02Hurry.
00:55:03Go to the Solaria prison.
00:55:04The rebels have attacked us.
00:55:05Hurry to the prison.
00:55:07Come on.
00:55:08Get up.
00:55:09Get up.
00:55:20Brutellius, now divide into two groups.
00:55:22I'll go into the gardens.
00:55:24Come on.
00:55:39Why don't we lock them in?
00:55:53One of them might have the keys.
00:55:54We'll make them come out.
00:55:55Put out the torches.
00:55:56Hey, what's going on here?
00:55:57Outside!
00:55:59Maloonsis, where are you?
00:56:24Here I am.
00:56:25A lucky thing.
00:56:26A lucky thing. You were behind me.
00:56:28Don't worry about it now. We'll settle up later.
00:56:56Stop! By the light of the gods, it's a centurion, Lucius!
00:57:07He's an old friend of mine. Hurry, open up.
00:57:14Lucius.
00:57:17Lucius!
00:57:19Two detachments of Praetorians are outside, trying to batter down the gates.
00:57:22We've got to find some way to escape from this trap. Follow me!
00:57:26Let's go!
00:57:33Get the commander!
00:57:56Let's go!
00:58:26Lucius!
00:58:56Lucius!
00:59:26What are those Praetorian gods doing? What's going to happen to us?
00:59:53Carlos, we've been trapped.
01:00:02People of Rome!
01:00:07My own people, what has made you turn against me?
01:00:11What have I done to deserve this?
01:00:14I have never been concerned with government.
01:00:17I have spent all my time competing in the arena,
01:00:20to give pleasure to all of you honest citizens.
01:00:23And you've enjoyed it, too. You've always applauded me.
01:00:27You'd have done much better if you'd fed your starving people.
01:00:30You should have thought of giving us the chance of living like decent human beings.
01:00:33All of your misfortunes are the responsibility of one man alone.
01:00:38And I will hand him over to you because I wish to see justice done.
01:00:44No! What are you doing?
01:00:46He's lying! It's not true! I'm innocent!
01:00:49Let me go! I tell you, let me go! It's not true!
01:00:53You've got to let me go! No! No!
01:00:57Let me go! It's not true! Please!
01:01:01No! No!
01:01:03No!
01:01:05No!
01:01:10We must find a way to attack them from the rear.
01:01:13Look, we might be able to use that.
01:01:16We'll climb up there on the platform and have some men landed down on the farther side.
01:01:20That way we'll surprise them from the rear.
01:01:22That's a good idea, Horatius. You and I and Penuncius and...
01:01:25And me.
01:01:26And you. Don't join in until you get a signal from me.
01:01:29Emilia, you stay here. I'll see you when it's all over. Let's go!
01:01:47Hurry! Start pulling it up!
01:01:50Come on! Hurry!
01:01:52Get those gates down! Let the horsemen through!
01:02:23By the gods, the wager's gotten stuck!
01:02:26Jump off!
01:02:28Hurry!
01:02:31Hurry!
01:02:49Silence! Silence!
01:02:53Hear me, people of Rome!
01:02:56With the death of Cleander, the days of injustice and misery are over at last.
01:03:01I have already ordered a generous distribution of oil and wheat flour.
01:03:05And I will organize for you magnificent spectacles in the arena.
01:03:09I order that the imperial warehouses shall be opened to the public without further delay.
01:03:15Pay attention!
01:03:18Where are you going? What are you doing, you fools?
01:03:22Don't leave here! Don't believe a word he says!
01:03:47He's dead, Lucius.
01:03:50And I didn't even know his name.
01:03:54Come! We must join Pompey!
01:04:01Long live Pompey!
01:04:03Long live Pompey!
01:04:05Long live Pompey!
01:04:08Our trouble is over!
01:04:10Long live Pompey!
01:04:13Long live Pompey!
01:04:16Long live Pompey!
01:04:22Lucius, have you heard the news?
01:04:24Yes. We were going to the palace when we came upon the people who were emptying the warehouses.
01:04:27I first took care of Emilia, then came to find out what had happened.
01:04:30I made the great mistake of allowing Commodus to speak to the people.
01:04:33Now I know I should have killed him immediately.
01:04:36He's as sly as a fox. He knows how to work on the emotions of the populace.
01:04:40He can judge their reactions. That's what he learned in the arena.
01:04:43Let's go to our hideout and make new plans.
01:04:46Let's go.
01:04:52Do, Lucius. Commodus isn't going to forget what almost happened to him that night,
01:04:56and will do his best to catch us all. That's it.
01:04:58We can't do anything but wait until we get a favorable opportunity.
01:05:01In the meantime, Horatius will go to Silesia and find Octavius Craticus.
01:05:06Octavius Craticus? Oh, but of course!
01:05:08He'll be an ideal witness to the fact of your royal birth.
01:05:11You must persuade him to come to Rome at once. We need him.
01:05:14I propose a toast. To Lucius Craticus, Emperor of Rome!
01:05:17Lucius Craticus, Emperor of Rome!
01:05:22You can leave it to me. We were beaten in this one battle, but we're going to win the war.
01:05:31Come on, get out!
01:05:33But why? What is this? Tell me what I've done, Vito.
01:05:37You're a dirty traitor, Claudius Erpinus.
01:05:39Hurry up, you in there!
01:05:40Come on, throw them out! Hurry up!
01:05:44All my slaves!
01:05:47My own house! All my belongings!
01:05:50They're all confiscated. That is the law.
01:05:53But what for? I must know. What crime have I committed?
01:05:56I'm afraid I can't remember.
01:05:58Get a move on, all of you.
01:06:00Bring him to the Mamatine prison.
01:06:04I want to be really generous towards you.
01:06:07I wouldn't like it to be said that I'm even more cruel than Cleander.
01:06:10Perhaps you can regain your liberty if you give me 2,000 sestases, eh?
01:06:21It's Vito's Praetorians!
01:06:32Hurry, make them open the door.
01:06:41Hey, Vito! There's no need for you to batter down my house.
01:06:45Ah, so you're here, Senator.
01:06:47Why, didn't you expect to see me?
01:06:49We were informed that you had escaped.
01:06:51After all, traitors always try to escape justice.
01:06:54Don't you agree?
01:07:00What am I accused of, Vito?
01:07:02You were an intimate friend of Terunius Crassus, weren't you?
01:07:05Or were you not?
01:07:07I was not his friend, but I believed him in good faith and honours.
01:07:10In such good faith and so honours that he betrayed Rome and his emperor.
01:07:14You know what became of Terunius.
01:07:17And you were one of his close friends.
01:07:19That is to say, you were his most intimate friend.
01:07:23I was ignorant of his interests.
01:07:25Prove it, Senator!
01:07:27Forward, men!
01:07:29Wait a minute.
01:07:31Your Praetorians won't be able to find a thing, Vito.
01:07:38You know, maybe I could pay up 5,000 sestases immediately.
01:07:42As well as 1,000 for you personally, of course.
01:07:44So you'll be able to say that you found it quite easy to bribe me.
01:07:47Who's going to know what's happened?
01:07:49Commodus loathes me now and my life is in jeopardy all the time.
01:07:53I want you to have an interest in keeping me alive.
01:07:56So that your interest and my life both last as long as possible.
01:08:02I'll be back before nightfall.
01:08:04Come, men!
01:08:06My poor Terunius, the method is quite different.
01:08:09But the result will be the same.
01:08:30What's the latest news about my dear brother?
01:08:32He was probably killed during the attack on the prison.
01:08:35Why probably?
01:08:37We've been searching for him day and night.
01:08:39And I won't stop looking until I can bring you his severed head.
01:08:41Just be sure you find him.
01:08:43Have you brought me the money?
01:08:45Look here.
01:08:49By all the gods!
01:08:50Vito, you're great! I never expected you'd get so much.
01:08:53We've got enough for one, two, maybe even three shows in the arena.
01:08:56Take this, it's yours.
01:08:58I don't want anything.
01:08:59For me it's enough to have satisfied my Emperor Commodus.
01:09:02You know, you do surprise me, Vito.
01:09:05You're sure you want nothing.
01:09:07Tell me truthfully what you'd like to have.
01:09:09Nothing.
01:09:14I know you've always desired her.
01:09:17You want her?
01:09:18Take her then.
01:09:20Commodus, what is this?
01:09:22You're only joking, aren't you?
01:09:24I love you.
01:09:25I'm yours only.
01:09:27But Vito wants you.
01:09:29You can't just throw me into the arms of another.
01:09:31To a disgusting individual like Vito.
01:09:33A thief, a murderer, a filthy coward.
01:09:35I won't accept him or anyone else.
01:09:37Quiet, woman.
01:09:38You'll do whatever I order you.
01:09:40Don't you worry, old friend.
01:09:42If I want it, Marzia shall be yours.
01:09:45And that's what I want.
01:09:46Commodus, you must have lost your mind.
01:09:48You've already destroyed the good name of your father.
01:09:50And now you're turning against the few people who still believe in your better nature.
01:09:53You'll remain alone without a friend.
01:09:55In the hands of a mob who'll tear you to pieces like Leander.
01:09:58You'll be murdered.
01:10:01I don't know who has taught you to risk saying such things.
01:10:04But don't let me see you again.
01:10:06Neither here nor anywhere else.
01:10:14Just disappear, you viper.
01:10:16But be careful I don't find you because you can be sure I'll crush you.
01:10:28VITO
01:10:46Mavius.
01:10:49I'm here.
01:10:50Marzia has been thrown out of the palace.
01:10:51Follow her closely and find out where she's taken refuge.
01:10:53Very well.
01:10:58VITO
01:11:20Emilia.
01:11:21Marzia.
01:11:28Marzia.
01:11:34They've passed by.
01:11:35What's going on? Where were you going?
01:11:36Commodus decided to get rid of me.
01:11:38Lito is planning to kill me.
01:11:40I've got to get as far from Rome as possible but I've got nowhere safe to go.
01:11:43Why do you have to go far away when you could come and hide with us?
01:11:45If they haven't found the place by now they won't ever be able to find it.
01:11:48Thank you, Emilia.
01:11:49I was afraid you'd remember my unkindness.
01:11:51Oh, I've forgotten it.
01:11:52I know well what can happen when a girl loves a man.
01:11:54Are you sure Lucius will want me to be with you?
01:11:56Certainly. Lucius will be very happy to help you.
01:11:59Now listen to me carefully.
01:12:00Rome is full of spies and it's much too dangerous to enter our hiding place during the day.
01:12:04It's better to wait here until nightfall.
01:12:06Then make your way to the third street on the right after the bridge at the Saburo.
01:12:09You'll find a white house.
01:12:11Knock twice softly and twice loudly.
01:12:13We'll all be there waiting for you.
01:12:15Now I must go.
01:12:16We'll meet later.
01:12:17May the gods assist you.
01:12:18And you too, Emilia.
01:12:19Well, and you know where to find Marzia.
01:12:21I know more than that, Lito.
01:12:22I even know where to find Lucius.
01:12:24Lucius.
01:12:25Lucius Crassus.
01:12:26I promise you.
01:12:27Perhaps tonight you'll have him in your power.
01:12:29By all the gods, Mavius, if you're telling me the truth, you'll be rich.
01:12:43With the delicious things Emilia found, I'll prepare you a meal fit for the emperor.
01:12:47Fine.
01:12:48What are you giving us, Pompey?
01:12:49Oh, some tasty boiled turnips.
01:12:51Ah, for ten days now we've been eating boiled turnips.
01:12:54All right.
01:12:55Tomorrow we'll change the menu.
01:12:56Tomorrow I'll cook you some stuffed turnips.
01:12:59Stuffed turnips?
01:13:00Uh-huh.
01:13:01And what are you going to stuff them with?
01:13:02Well, with other turnips.
01:13:03Ah.
01:13:04Quiet, you two.
01:13:05Can't you stop being so stupid?
01:13:07Please forgive us, Lucius.
01:13:08Sometimes the best thing to do is to make stupid jokes when your life's in danger.
01:13:12You're right.
01:13:13I'm sorry.
01:13:14But I'm going mad being cooped up in here.
01:13:17Tell me, Lucius, what do you feel about Marzia's joining us?
01:13:20Do you think we can trust her?
01:13:21Yes.
01:13:22After all, she's been Commodus' mistress for years.
01:13:24I think we can trust her.
01:13:26And I have confidence in Emilia's opinion.
01:13:28And in the meantime, Commodus continues his Croesian foolishness.
01:13:31Tomorrow he's arranged another big spectacle in the arena.
01:13:34They say he's going to fight the fiercest gladiators from Thrace.
01:13:37Gladiators from Thrace?
01:13:38By the gods, that's the opportunity I've been waiting for.
01:13:41What do you want to do?
01:13:42Get into the arena.
01:13:43How will you manage it?
01:13:44I know the guardian of the gate.
01:13:46Why do you want to?
01:13:48Now listen to me carefully.
01:13:50I'll go into the arena.
01:14:02I know your plan is going to work.
01:14:03It must work.
01:14:05Isn't this what you want of me?
01:14:07That I kill Commodus and proclaim myself emperor of Rome?
01:14:10That's right, Lucius.
01:14:11Yes, and you're not doing it to gain power.
01:14:12It's your duty.
01:14:13It's your sacred duty to save Rome and your own people.
01:14:16Leave him alone to make up his mind.
01:14:18I've already decided.
01:14:19That's what you've been waiting for, isn't it?
01:14:22Get Montius.
01:14:25No!
01:14:26Don't open the door, Emilia!
01:14:29Montius!
01:14:31Murphy, get Emilia away from here!
01:14:33Seize him!
01:14:47Hurry, hurry!
01:15:14Vittorio, capture him!
01:15:15Capture all of them!
01:15:44Don't let him escape!
01:15:58Hurry!
01:15:59Stop him!
01:16:00Stop him!
01:16:01You clumsy fools!
01:16:02Open it up!
01:16:04Pompey, do you know where we can hide?
01:16:22Sure, I do.
01:16:23Take Emilia there.
01:16:24I'll join you later.
01:16:25But I want to go with you.
01:16:26Please let me go, Lucius.
01:16:27It would be much too dangerous, and you'd be sure to be captured by the Vittorian guards.
01:16:32Be careful, Lucius.
01:16:34Farewell, Emilia.
01:16:38We'll camp here, men!
01:16:41Vittorians, tell us where you want us to gather the horses!
01:16:48Put those fires out, you sort of fools!
01:16:52Do you want us to blow trumpets to announce our arrival?
01:16:55Why haven't we been ordered to hold, General?
01:16:57Because I want to arrive in Rome with men who are well rested.
01:17:00What about the tired legionaries who are falling asleep?
01:17:02I don't think there'll be any need for us to fight.
01:17:04Neither do I.
01:17:05But just remember this.
01:17:06If you want peace, be prepared for war.
01:17:08Then it might have been better to arrive with the entire legion.
01:17:11Why, that would have meant open rebellion.
01:17:13With only 100 legionaries, it looks as if they are my personal escort.
01:17:17Don't you worry, Horatius.
01:17:18Within three days we'll be in Rome.
01:17:19You'll continue on the Flaminia?
01:17:20It's the best way I know.
01:17:21I know a shortcut that goes through the olive groves near Sutri.
01:17:24It would shorten the journey by many hours.
01:17:26We haven't any wagons.
01:17:27Why not take it, General?
01:17:28Why is it important to get to Rome so soon?
01:17:30You told me that Lucius had found a hiding place where he'd be safe.
01:17:33Yes, but I've had a presentiment of danger, General.
01:17:35Maybe something has gone wrong.
01:17:37And if there's any kind of trouble, I want to be right there.
01:17:40You see, General, I've decided it's time I started a family.
01:17:43I want to get married and buy a house and land in the country.
01:17:46I must get the money for it somehow.
01:17:48In that case, you should keep away from active combat.
01:17:50On the contrary.
01:17:51Lucius and Penutius already owe me almost 1,000 sestases.
01:17:55I want to bring it up to at least 3,000.
01:17:57What is this story, Horatius?
01:17:58It's too long a story to explain to you.
01:18:00I'd better be on my way to Rome.
01:18:02Farewell, General.
01:18:09Hurry up there!
01:18:11Bring up that hay!
01:18:13Hey, you over there.
01:18:14Unfurl the flags.
01:18:16Legionaries and centurions, be prepared to report to me immediately.
01:18:20Very well, General.
01:18:27What do you want?
01:18:28What do you want?
01:18:29What do you want?
01:18:30What do you want?
01:18:31What do you want?

01:18:38What do you want?

01:18:46What do you want?
01:18:47What do you want?
01:18:48What do you want?
01:18:49What do you want?
01:18:50What do you want?
01:18:51What do you want?
01:18:52What do you want?
01:18:53What do you want?
01:18:54What do you want?
01:18:55What do you want?
01:18:56What do you want?
01:18:57What do you want?
01:18:58What do you want?
01:18:59What do you want?
01:19:00What do you want?
01:19:01What do you want?
01:19:02What do you want?
01:19:03What do you want?

01:19:07What do you want?
01:19:08What do you want?
01:19:09What do you want?
01:19:10What do you want?
01:19:11What do you want?
01:19:12What do you want?
01:19:13What do you want?

01:19:23What do you want?
01:19:24What do you want?
01:19:25What do you want?
01:19:26What do you want?
01:19:27What do you want?
01:19:28What do you want?
01:19:29What do you want?
01:19:30What do you want?
01:19:31What do you want?
01:19:32What do you want?
01:19:33What do you want?
01:19:34What do you want?
01:19:35What do you want?
01:19:36What do you want?
01:19:37What do you want?
01:19:38What do you want?
01:19:39What do you want?
01:19:40What do you want?
01:19:41What do you want?
01:19:42What do you want?
01:19:43What do you want?
01:19:44What do you want?
01:19:45What do you want?
01:19:46What do you want?
01:19:47What do you want?
01:19:48What do you want?
01:19:49What do you want?
01:19:50What do you want?
01:19:51What do you want?
01:19:52What do you want?
01:19:53What do you want?
01:19:54That's enough, where are the lions?
01:20:24Oh
01:20:54What's the matter with you, why aren't you shouting?
01:21:13Oh nothing, nothing at all.
01:21:14Long live Commodore! Long live Commodore! Long live Commodore! Long live Commodore! Long live Commodore!
01:21:44Do you come from Thrace? No, I'm a Roman just like you.
01:22:08Why are you wearing the armor of a Thracian? Because I prefer it, as you do.
01:22:13Who are you? An emperor just like you.
01:22:19You? How did you get in here?
01:22:22That's not important. Do you refuse to fight against me?
01:22:43Ah, what bad luck, they're both left-handed, so I can't tell which one of the fighters is Lucius.
01:22:58Neither can I.
01:23:08By the gods, Commodore, stab him, don't slash at him like that, otherwise he'll be able to catch his breath and return to the attack.
01:23:14You want it to be over immediately, this spectacle?
01:23:17You're quite right.
01:23:21Watch out!
01:23:34Pompey!
01:23:36Oh, Horatious!
01:23:37Where's Lucius?
01:23:38He's one of them, we don't know which.
01:23:56Maybe he's the one on the right.
01:23:57He was in trouble to begin with, but now he's picked up.
01:24:00For my money he began all right, but now...
01:24:03What do you mean?
01:24:04Octavius Craticus can't get here before tomorrow.
01:24:06I took a shortcut through the groves around Sutry, but he preferred to continue by the Flaminian Way.
01:24:11By all the gods, that can ruin us.
01:24:13If Lucius doesn't get the better of Commodus, there's no chance for the rest of us.
01:24:17The Praetorians will cut us to pieces.
01:24:19Maybe the people will rebel.
01:24:20The people, watch them.
01:24:33Cut them to pieces!
01:24:46Our great emperor resembles Mars, the god in Perth.
01:24:49Kill him!
01:25:12Kill him!
01:25:41People of Rome, listen to me!
01:25:45Seize that man, he's nothing but a traitor!
01:26:10Is that Lucius?
01:26:22Yes, that's right, it's Lucius Craticus.
01:26:23He's the one who led us in the first revolt against Commodus.
01:26:25It's Commodus, what's going on?
01:26:55Follow me!
01:27:24Kill him!
01:27:53The temp has made it!
01:28:22Craticus must have changed his mind and taken the shortcut through Sutry, just like I did.
01:28:53Kill him!
01:29:15Kill him!
01:29:41O people, you have all witnessed the death of Commodus, an event that occurred in fair combat.
01:29:48So be it.
01:29:49And the man who killed Commodus was his own twin brother, Lucius Crassus.
01:29:55I, Horatius Craticus, general of the Roman Empire, commander of the Eastern Legions,
01:30:01do bear witness to the royal birth of Lucius Crassus, the son of Marcus Aurelius.
01:30:07Lucius Crassus is our new emperor!
01:30:15He's a brave soldier, an honest man, a just man.
01:30:19He will give back to Rome the splendor and dignity she always had before.
01:30:23Once more in the history of Rome, as it happened already with Romulus and Remus,
01:30:28one brother's blood has been shed for the common good.
01:30:31Long live Lucius Crassus!
01:30:39And it is with the greatest joy that I welcome you here in the name of the Senate,
01:30:45O Caesar Lucius Crassus, Emperor of Rome.
01:30:51It seems I have acquired a great emperor and lost my best friend.
01:30:55I think you're right.
01:30:56Lucius will never stop being a friend to all of you.
01:30:59I refuse to cling to such illusions.
01:31:01If you want to spoil the best of men, give them power.
01:31:04What's more, the disappointments that hurt the most will come from his friends.
01:31:08Well, I think it's more than likely.
01:31:09Silence!
01:31:11I thank you.
01:31:12I have already given my first orders for the assistance and comfort of all the people.
01:31:16They will have fewer taxes and honest administrators.
01:31:19The Praetorian Guard, which will protect them instead of persecuting them,
01:31:23will be commanded by a brave man, an honorable and just man.
01:31:27I place in command of Rome's Praetorian Guard, Centurion Horatius de Vaticus.
01:31:32I told you so.
01:31:33The biggest disappointments he'll get from his best friend.
01:31:36I further designate that Marcus Panuncius, with the rank of legion commander,
01:31:42will lead the troops now stationed in Gaul.
01:31:44As chief tax collector, I nominate Lucius Pompey.
01:31:48You can rest assured that he will show no favoritism to anyone.
01:31:51Don't be so sure about that.
01:31:53You'll be the first to pay them.
01:31:54And if I find you're not doing your duty, I'll besiege your houses.
01:31:57And I will arrest all of you.
01:31:58Silence!
01:31:59These are my last decrees.
01:32:01From this moment on, I'm no longer your emperor.
01:32:05What are you saying?
01:32:06You can't leave us now.
01:32:08Stay with us, Lucius.
01:32:09Don't leave us.
01:32:11Please listen, my friends.
01:32:14I know nothing about ruling an empire.
01:32:17I'm a good soldier, and I hope the new emperor will give me command of a legion.
01:32:22If I remain in a position of which I know nothing, I might become worse than Comodus.
01:32:27Power is a dangerous potion, and I might get drunk on it.
01:32:31Among the senators, there is only one.
01:32:35A wise man who can guide the empire.
01:32:38The friend of Tarullius Crassus.
01:32:41Pertinax.
01:32:45Long live Pertinax.
01:32:49Perhaps you have acted wisely, Lucius.
01:32:51Take him down.
01:33:21To be continued
