00:00Hello and welcome to What's On in Wigan this week.
00:06Saturday, September 7th sees the return of the Wigan Diggers Festival to Believe Square
00:11in the heart of the hometown of Gerard Wynne Stanley.
00:14The leader of the 17th Century Diggers Movement is celebrated in the day-long event, running
00:19from 11.15am to 9.30pm, offering music, poetry, ideas and discussions all for free.
00:27Alternating between two stages, the music includes local, regional and nationally recognised
00:32artists.
00:34Wigan News Zone is inviting people to celebrate its free community arts festival, Madfest,
00:39on Saturday, September 7th.
00:41From 11am to 3pm, you will be able to see some amazing art and dive into some hands-on
00:46activities.
00:49Why not take your little ones to a session full of storytelling, fun and drawing, inspired
00:55by the animals we see to celebrate?
00:58Heritage Open Day at Hayward Fulton Park on Saturday, September 7th.
01:02Led by artist Lauren Beard, activities are suitable for children aged 5 to 11.
01:07Adults stay with their children for this session, so book a free ticket for everyone who will
01:12be in the room.
01:13The workshop takes place upstairs in the Kate Staples Courtyard in the classroom space.
01:20And finally, join Mellor and Rose at Eden Tea Room and Galleries in Wigan on Sunday,
01:25September 8th from 10am to 12.30pm on their modern calligraphy workshop suitable for complete
01:31beginners and intermediates.
01:33Guided by expert tutors Beverly and Lucy Mellor, you will begin by covering the core fundamentals
01:39of this beautiful and calming art form, before moving on to learning the upper and lower
01:44script, alphabet, how to link letters, first words and phrases.
