A dry and bright start for most of the UK although there are brisk winds and heavy showers in the West of Scotland, while there is also a risk of some showers in northern England. In the afternoon the risk of showers in Scotland and Northern England decreases and it will be sunny and fresh for many parts of the country. The evening is cool with clear skies for most of the UK but there will be some cloud in Scotland.

00:00Good morning, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. A pretty fine day for
00:03many of us, not feeling too bad at all in any sunshine, but across the north and west
00:08there's still some quite frequent showers and a bit of a brisk westerly wind to come
00:12through the day. Heavy showers will likely affect north and western Scotland, moving
00:16into eastern areas of Scotland later on. Still a risk of some showers across some areas of
00:20northern England, Wales, the south west, but I think showers will be much fewer and further
00:25in between compared to yesterday and there'll be more in the way of sunshine, particularly
00:29the further south and east you are. In the sunshine it will feel warm, but it is going
00:33to be a fresher day than yesterday today. That's because we've got a new air mass, fresher
00:38air that's moved in overnight. So temperatures at best 23 or 24 degrees across the south
00:43and east, but widely will be in the high teens, low 20s. That's a round average for the time
00:48of year, but we've got that brisk westerly wind in the north, it will feel that much
00:52cooler. Room for another cool night tonight as clear skies develop quite widely through
00:57this evening. So quite a fine end to the day. As I said, temperatures will fall away quite
01:01quickly through this evening as the sun is starting to set much earlier. So in rural
01:06areas we'll be down in single figures. Some towns and cities could see temperatures as
01:10low as 8 or 9 degrees as well, but that will mean we're in for a fine start to the day
01:15on Friday morning. Potentially a few patches of mist and fog around, but other than that
01:19it's going to be a clear and bright start to the day and it will still feel warm enough
01:23in any sunshine. The winds look quite light widely across the UK through Friday as well,
01:28away from the far north of Scotland, but there's still a bit of a breeze through Friday. So
01:34in the sunshine, highs of 24, 25 degrees in the south, further north around 18 to 19 degrees.
01:41So not bad at all, particularly as we haven't had many widely settled days through this
01:46summer so far. And Saturday looks like a similar day. As we head into Sunday though, a threat
01:51of some showers arriving from the south and east, but you can find out more details on
01:55that on our latest 10 day trend on YouTube. Have a great day, see you soon.
