A mixed picture for Saturday afternoon with showers in northern England and Scotland but it is much drier in England and Wales and Northern Ireland. In the evening the westerly wind starts to drive the showers out towards the North Sea and the skies become much clearer across the UK as a result.

00:00Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Pitania. We're starting
00:04the weekend on a fairly unsettled note, particularly towards the north of the UK. Plenty of showers
00:08around and as we head into the afternoon, we hold on to very showery conditions across
00:11Scotland, even a bit of winteriness across the mountaintops, a kind of brisk and overly
00:16breezed too. The showers more scattered as we come further south into Northern Ireland
00:19and Northern England, even more scattered across England and Wales, turning the band
00:23together in places here with some sunshine at times, particularly across central and
00:26south-western parts of the UK. But even here, a bit of a brisk west to north-westerly wind
00:31and temperatures are struggling for the time of year, no better than 9 or 10 degrees towards
00:35the north. 10 there in Glasgow is 50 in Fahrenheit, nearer 14 or 15 at best towards the south-east,
00:4015 in London is 59 in Fahrenheit, which is actually close to the seasonal average. As
00:45we head into the evening and through the overnight period, the showers towards the north and
00:48north-east start to pull away into the North Sea, but it does stay quite showery across
00:52the north and north-east of Scotland, still quite a wind blowing from the north there
00:55across the north and east of the UK, and the showers still a bit wintry across the
00:58mountaintops at least for the time. As we head out towards the west and south-west,
01:02we start to see a ridge of high pressure moving in from the west, so we'll see skies clearing
01:06and turning quite chilly, particularly towards the north under clear skies here, we'll see
01:10temperatures down just below freezing, down to around minus 1, minus 2 degrees even in
01:13some towns and cities by the morning on Sunday. Towards the south, the frost a bit more patchy,
01:18here temperatures generally holding just above zero. Going into Sunday then, the second half
01:22of the weekend, we start with a showery picture towards the north and north-east, the showers
01:26across the north and east of Scotland gradually easing through the day, that brisk north-to-north-westerly
01:31wind also slowly easing, so a lot of fine weather around, and the sunshine now turning
01:36increasingly hazy from the west as cloud starts to thicken, particularly into the afternoon,
01:40some outbreaks of rain reaching Northern Ireland, the western parts of Scotland, and bright
01:44rather than sunny conditions out across other western areas as high cloud gradually increases.
01:48So we hold onto the best of the afternoon sunshine towards the east and towards some
01:51north-eastern parts of the UK, but wherever you are, temperatures again on the chilly
01:55side for the middle part of October, no better than 8 or 9 degrees towards the north, up
01:59to 11 or 12, locally 13, perhaps 14 down towards the south-west, 14 there is 57 in Fahrenheit.
02:05As we go into the evening and into the overnight period, those outbreaks of rain will start
02:09to make further progress across other western parts of the UK there, so turning quite wet
02:13and quite breezy out across these western areas. Out towards the east and south-east
02:17though, we hold onto a few clear spells and here, again, turning a little bit chilly,
02:20at least for a time. That's pretty much it from me, but of course you can keep tuned
02:24to the Met Office forecast by following us on social media and subscribing to our YouTube
02:28channel. I'll see you soon, take care, bye bye.
