A cool and clear evening for most of the UK but there are showers in Scotland. Overnight the showers in Scotland become less widespread and intense while cloud develops over northern England and patches of mist and fog form in Wales and the west country. Friday morning starts dry and bright for most of the UK but it is generally cloudy in Scotland.

00:00Good evening. A widely settled day to come on Friday. Plenty of sunshine to end
00:05one of the last days of summer. This evening though we'll chill off quite
00:09quickly. We've got high pressure building in bringing clear skies for
00:12many of us through the next couple of days but as we approach the weekend
00:16we'll start to see the threat of some more unsettled weather building up
00:19across southern areas on Saturday and then from the north and west as we head
00:23to the latter part of Sunday as high pressure pushes away to the north and
00:28east of the UK. But through this evening there's still actually some wet weather
00:32to come and a bit of a brisk breeze across the north and west of Scotland in
00:36particular where it's been a fairly unsettled day in fact. And those showers
00:40will become more restricted to the far north and northern isles, the far north of
00:43Scotland throughout this evening. Elsewhere it will turn dry and clear for
00:49much of the UK. We could see some mist and fog developing for parts of the west
00:52country, rurally in Wales, eastern areas of England even and across the Pennines
00:56could see some fog patches first thing tomorrow and it is going to be a fresher
01:00night tonight compared to last night. Rurally we could be down as low as
01:04around three degrees for some areas but many towns and cities actually dipping
01:07down to single figures. However it will warm up relatively quickly because it is
01:12going to be a bright start to the day on Friday. Now I think the best of the
01:15sunshine will be through the morning, a bit more cloud will develop as we head
01:19into the afternoon but we'll also see the sunshine turn a bit hazier to the
01:23south and east potentially as a threat of the nearby thunderstorms does come a
01:27little bit closer. But it's going to stay dry for most of us, actually dry across
01:31the far north of Scotland even by the end of the day. So it's certainly a more
01:35widely warm and settled day, plenty of sunshine across the whole of the UK.
01:39Temperatures across northern areas in the high teens still feeling quite warm
01:43in that sunshine though with light winds. In the south temperatures climbing
01:47towards 24 or 25 degrees so a slightly warmer day across southern areas
01:51compared to today with a bit more in the way of longer-lived sunshine. But
01:56that cloud will gradually melt away through Friday evening to end the week
02:00on a settled note, another clear night to come and that will allow temperatures
02:05to fall away perhaps even lower than tonight. But notice across the south
02:10we're starting to see that threat of thunderstorms come ever closer. Now there
02:13is some uncertainty in exactly where we'll see any of these showers but I
02:18think if you're across the south you can expect cloud to build in by Saturday
02:22morning. Elsewhere though another clear and bright start to the day and as I
02:27said another fresh start as well. So it should stay quite dry and sunny through
02:32much of the day across northern areas, Northern Ireland, much of Scotland,
02:35northern areas of England, anywhere north of the Midlands really. But
02:39anywhere south of the Midlands are likely to see some cloud building in
02:42through the afternoon and just a chance of some heavy showers. But I think most
02:47of us should get away with a relatively dry day. So these showers I want to keep
02:51an eye on in the forecast through the next few days as then we will get a bit
02:55more certainty on them through the next 24 hours or so. So in the sunshine still
03:00a warm day actually across northwestern Scotland we could see temperatures
03:02climbing into the 20s and some northern western areas of England, North Wales too.
03:07Further south with a bit more of a breeze temperatures will be in the lower
03:1120s but still feeling relatively warm and that will lead us into another
03:16potentially quite fresh night on Saturday night into Sunday. There'll be
03:20more widespread showers on Sunday and Monday potentially but if you'd like any
03:24more details on that check out our weekend forecast on YouTube. Bye bye.
