00:00:00it's do-or-die for Argentinian rugby today and here's their team they made a
00:00:04very late change Guillermo Angol coming in at fullback that was just announced
00:00:0815 minutes today Rafael 15 minutes ago Rafael Madero coming in at number 13
00:00:14and going into the centers then the club combination of Ternes, Porta and Gomez
00:00:18near the scrum up front there's a tough front row of Molina, Dengra and hooker
00:00:22Diego Cash the biggest player in the team is number four Eliseo Branca and at
00:00:26number eight is the tallest in today's Puma lineup Gabrielle Travaglini. In the
00:00:30New Zealand team there are seven changes from the machine which totted up 74
00:00:34points against Fiji. Kieran Crowley comes back at fullback for his ninth test
00:00:38Terry Wright is on to the left wing wearing number 11 then there's the first
00:00:42of the new caps number 12 Bernie McCahill number 8 Andy Urn and the new
00:00:46flankers Zin Zanbrook make two changes in the loose forwards Murray Pierce
00:00:49returns at lock dropping Albert Anderson to the stands and in the front
00:00:53row Richard Lowe comes back to join John Drake and Sean Fitzpatrick that's
00:00:57the New Zealand team to meet Argentina today
00:01:05well all the players will get a look at the William Webb Ellis Trophy as they
00:01:10come past
00:01:13well there is going to be a slight delay here because some skydivers are coming
00:01:25in arrived a fraction late and in fact one of the trailers collided with one of
00:01:31the Argentinian players and here comes the lucky last coming in I think it's
00:01:35the lucky last man coming down skydivers so lots of excitement in front of a big
00:01:39crowd at Athletic Park today and obviously they're going to have to hurry
00:01:43these people out of the way to make sure that today's match kicks off on time at
00:01:48the three o'clock there is the first of today's new caps for the New Zealand
00:01:52team 22 year old Zin Zanbrook from the Marist Club in Auckland and Zin Zanbrook
00:01:58his debut for New Zealand today and with him also playing his first game number
00:02:0312 also from the Marist Club in Auckland getting a handshake from a
00:02:06teammate there and this is Bernie McAhill
00:03:06well that's an amazing scene and there are 45 photographers around the Pumas
00:03:20team not so many around the New Zealand team
00:04:06well the usual discipline of the World Cup starts is just gone astray there you
00:04:33can see there are people all over the field and at a rough guess I'd say these
00:04:37people are just about all supporters of the Pumas team there are three or four
00:04:42club teams in New Zealand touring at the moment tying in their own private club
00:04:47tours with the Rugby World Cup and they came onto the field from their position
00:04:51down in front of the Millard stand and wanted to stand with the Puma team in
00:04:55solidarity I suppose now let's look at the All Blacks Haka and leading it is
00:05:00the new man
00:05:31big moment for Zin Zanbrook brand-new All Black today making it four players
00:05:39from the Marist Club in Auckland in the New Zealand team this afternoon four
00:05:42players also from the University Club in Auckland and they'll be playing against
00:05:47the Puma team led by this man number 10 and perhaps his last game for the Pumas
00:05:51Hugo Potter and there's today's referee Roger Quiddenden well it's going to be a
00:05:57question today of whether the Pumas qualify for the quarterfinals or whether
00:06:01they'll be on Aerolinius Argentina flight AR881 on Wednesday
00:06:08Potter begins the match in glorious conditions there is a breeze which is
00:06:13the standard World Cup Wellington wind if you like coming from this end and
00:06:17heading towards Island Bay in the distance and northerly but really it's a
00:06:21balmy Wellington afternoon and there have been criticisms of Wellington's
00:06:25weather but you can't really question it today it's a glorious day the All
00:06:30Blacks won the toss and elected to play into this win let Argentina take the
00:06:34kickoff remember a late change in the Argentinian team was just announced
00:06:43that's the man who led the Haka the new man Brooke and he'll be pleased no doubt
00:06:49to get a good hand on the ball in the first moment of play
00:06:55but it did bounce the touch it's a beautiful day in Wellington I've got to
00:07:01apologize to all my Wellington friends as I did my constitutionalist walk
00:07:04around Wellington this morning I got a lot of ribbing about what I said on
00:07:07television last night about the weather but they've turned on a magnificent day
00:07:10today Keith throwing for the Pumas will be their hooker number two Diego Cush
00:07:20Argentinian Pumas have not been in the capital of New Zealand since 1979 David
00:07:27Kirk the New Zealand captain
00:07:35there's David Kirk 30th test match today let's hope it's not an unlucky one for
00:07:49well it's just never quite goes right does it a few undignified moments at the
00:07:57start of this match at Athletic Park today and there's the Puma pack they've
00:08:01got to work hard today they've got to win the match or draw it to get through
00:08:04to the quarterfinals and it goes to Hugo Porter for the first time straight down
00:08:09to Crowley in the dock
00:08:15well in fact that brings back memories of a Canterbury All Black Howard Joseph
00:08:19who fell over a dog in Athletic Park one day and my word that was very close
00:08:23indeed to being a bit of a disaster now he's gone out just about where John
00:08:28Kerwin stands he's wearing the right colors I suppose we have to say that
00:08:32grandpa he has disgraced himself the dog
00:08:49number nine number seven is Alejandro Schiavo
00:09:08the light frail looking all-black wing-attacking some ferocious bumps there
00:09:14certainly look as though they're here for business today
00:09:34well look that's ridiculous the dog is still there standing in the middle of
00:09:38the field I think someone's should have done something the ball could go over
00:09:42all sorts of disasters and there was a policeman creeping onto the field over
00:09:47to the right there's the man who's on the field to play the policeman there
00:09:58waiting to take him off meantime that was against David Kirk not in straight
00:10:10referee today Roger couldn't in his 16th full international game it's a free kick
00:10:19so no direct kick can be taken at goal Porter is the danger man last time he
00:10:25played against the All Blacks there were three drop goals from Porter
00:10:30way to the right you can see what a problem the Sun is going to be in the
00:10:35second half of this game but there he is the question is being asked about this
00:10:38man will this be his last international match for the Pumas
00:10:48looking along the 22-meter line in glorious conditions a kick into the
00:10:53shade of the huge Millard stand
00:11:02get the impression here the All Blacks have decided to weather the early storm of the
00:11:06fired-up Puma team and just played a bit safe and sensible in the first few
00:11:12minutes it's a big decision for David Kirk to have actually taken the decision
00:11:19to play against the elements I'm sure Andy Dalton sitting in the in the stand
00:11:23might not have been all it with it with him for that key it's Richard Lowe you
00:11:35can hear the grunt from these men as they are exerting maximum effort at
00:11:43these early lines
00:11:49number nine what's by Fabio Gomez number nine in a kick from Fox this is the new
00:11:58fullback Ango collision and this is the man who well if you believe the public
00:12:09address of some that announcement was made just at half-past two and Diego
00:12:14Cuesta Silva was left out of the Puma team
00:12:21now driving away that looks like it was not forward but the advantage may apply
00:12:25that's it's a book you'll be able to be identified by the blue sock on his leg
00:12:34and it's a penalty to New Zealand there were hands used in there by Alessio
00:12:39Branca
00:12:42yeah
00:12:52this is Zinzan Brooke he's only had nine games for his province Auckland and last
00:12:58year he came to Wellington twice was beaten on here by Wellington National
00:13:03Championship game and the captain the New Zealand Colts now beaten by 56 to 12
00:13:12so maybe a footy Park in the all-black jersey will be a happier hunting ground
00:13:21for Zinzan Brooke meantime the first shot at goal today
00:13:34brown Fox
00:13:41well that's the best goal kicked at that end of athletic park this week and New
00:13:55Zealand are on the board and lead Argentina by three points to nil
00:14:00so quarter restarts with the Pumas down and kicks it deep remember they wind if
00:14:15the ball goes over the in goal area of the dead ball line on the full they come
00:14:18back to halfway for a scrum so that was getting pretty close to that dead ball
00:14:23line very big crowd here today that's a clock about 35,000 people that's the
00:14:31biggest crowd that had an athletic park in 10 years at least the fall for New
00:14:40Zealand Murray Pierce number one is seraphin Dengar Fox again and that's
00:14:49floated wide and into touch on the foot again getting used to the wind grant Fox
00:14:57it's not blowing as much as it was all week but you've got a really played in
00:15:02the crap tram lines as L Curtin keep telling us
00:15:12someone's giving the referee advice there in the New Zealand team or was a
00:15:16Kiwi accent not straight not straight first real glimpse there Bernie McCarville
00:15:22getting in to touch the ball
00:15:29this New Zealand team driving hard up through the big
00:15:36see the Pumas like it put on them up front and Fox has kicked it every time
00:15:43he's got it so far and that is a very ragged piece of fullback play by the
00:15:52replacement fullback
00:16:00officials of the Argentinian rugby football union and a penalty another
00:16:10penalty for New Zealand Roger Quinton is dashed away to the left to penalize
00:16:14the Argentinian backs for being up within 10 meters of the line out now I
00:16:19don't know were you watching along that line Graham because that's a sort of a
00:16:22hairline decision for a referee to make early in the game it is of as close to
00:16:26the the posts but there's five ways a line out can cease and until that
00:16:31actually has happened the facts can't creep up of course all backs want to
00:16:35creep up because they're scared they won't get up on their man when he gets
00:16:37the ball but Roger Quinton and saw it
00:16:42well Grant Fox his last kick at Christchurch in the match against Fiji
00:16:46bought up 50 points for him and test rugby in just really just two
00:16:50internationals because he did play his test debut against Argentina in 1985 but
00:16:55he didn't take the kicks that day the kicks in fact were taken by Kieran
00:16:58Crowley but Fox managed to drop goal there so 48 points in the World Cup plus
00:17:04the drop goal plus three today 54 so far
00:17:10so
00:17:26it's close but Fred Howard and Dave Burnett the two touch judges saw it fly
00:17:33wide Fox doesn't have a great reputation for kicking on athletic park this is the
00:17:38first time he's kicked here for the all-blacks of course Fox's opposite
00:17:43Porta restarts
00:17:46that's Ellen wet number six
00:17:51these signs look ominous and a sale Branko getting back that's the 22-meter
00:17:56line Kirk now Fox's let it go McCarhill Stanley just not quite having the
00:18:03momentum that's only the 22 there
00:18:08Oh
00:18:24so here's I think an injury no they decided to let George Allen there's
00:18:32Hector Silva we just got a wee look at him there we'll have a look at him later
00:18:35on during the game he's the Puma coach
00:19:05Kirk Fox beautiful he was just flying behind him that's Andy Earl number eight
00:19:12Ellen wet and six Kirk again there's been a collision out in the field so
00:19:16Stanley's one of the players down McCarhill low
00:19:22Kirk narrow side going again
00:19:35look at the way Joe Stanley's on the ground so they had to go around him this
00:19:47is the second time the ball had gone to the right on the narrow side hard
00:19:50running from Kerwin good support from Kirk he got a try against Italy to
00:19:54against Fiji and now he's scored again against the Pumas here's the difference
00:19:58between camp PC and Kerwin at the moment all the confidence in the world from
00:20:02Kerwin inside his man there it is to Kirk and Kirk does the rest
00:20:12Andy Dalton in the back there shading his eyes from Wellington's sunshine this
00:20:17afternoon but the immediate worry is for Joe Stanley
00:20:26I think there was a bit of a collision between Stanley on that cut back with
00:20:33McCarhill he was coming back towards the center now Stanley a little slow to get
00:20:38up he had problems with his knees last year that really affected his form but
00:20:41he's been okay this year and been playing with a lot of strength in the
00:20:47midfield 30 year old Joe Stanley one of 11 Aucklanders in this New Zealand team
00:20:52this afternoon and that's a record
00:20:55so that was a good try by New Zealand they tried twice up the narrow side and
00:21:24second time they avoided the injured player there and a strong burst by
00:21:30Kerwin good support by Kirk and the New Zealand captain scored there's the Puma
00:21:34captain restarting exactly what Argentina doesn't want though they don't
00:21:40want to be down so early in the game 7-0 after 15 minutes and they're playing
00:21:45with the wind they've got to score those tries or beat the All Blacks to get into
00:21:49that quarterfinal berth in it the way they're playing they're not going to do
00:21:52it what I've liked most about the All Blacks in his first 15 minutes of play
00:22:01has been their concentration to an obvious plan Fox has kicked it this is
00:22:05Gomez the halfback on the narrow side he's got clear of Kirk Brooke is back
00:22:11carried on by cash number two
00:22:17lost forward here in the foreground is Marcelo Campo he's one of the survivors
00:22:24of the Puma team here in 1979 the played in Wellington on an awful day against
00:22:28the New Zealand team first time New Zealand's been in defense
00:22:40and offside play by David Kirk
00:22:46so here's a chance for the Pumas to get back into the game because they have
00:22:50Hugo Porter and he's going to have a shot at goal now if it's understood that
00:22:57Fox is a goal kicker of the very highest class then Hugo Porter has served his
00:23:03country in outstanding fashion as well in fact he scored over 350 points
00:23:10against international rugby board countries remember this is a man who
00:23:13began his international rugby career when the man outside him Fabian Ternes
00:23:19was only seven years of age he's been playing since 1971 in the blue and white
00:23:24colours
00:23:37and that's why he is one of the most efficient goal kickers in the history of
00:23:42the game Hugo Porter puts Argentina on the board at seven to three
00:23:55a lot of pressure there going on the New Zealand scrum at halfback and first
00:24:00five eights for David Kirk was annoyed by the people and then of course Grant
00:24:06Fox was in all sorts of trouble
00:24:13New Zealand in the lead by four tried to their captain taken in by Alan Whetton
00:24:18who's shown an amazingly improved form at the very highest level in the series
00:24:23he's got a try to each of the matches so far now that is control away to Fox
00:24:31Stanley again Porter made the upright tackle but Stanley got away
00:24:47the Argentinian backs getting up very quickly on the New Zealand backs the
00:24:52ball staying in the back of the scrum they can get right up on that line
00:25:00standing fact the backliners casting long long shadows you can see that's
00:25:07going to be much worse for the plumbers to face in the second half narrow side
00:25:11and you know or Crowley up and well done too good tackle over the touchline on
00:25:17Kirk by Fabian Ternes but sorry that's the fullback Gizermo Ango but that was
00:25:24good to see Karen Crowley the other number 15 come in at good speed
00:25:30Wellington people will be watching this man closely taking the place of John
00:25:35Gallagher today
00:25:40lifting in the Argentinian line now that's the second time that there's been
00:25:45lifting second time now that means Graham I suppose that there could be a
00:25:50sending off a repeated defense because if he's calling out the number of times
00:25:57you can be sent off for repeated offending yes I was actually talking to
00:26:01mr. Quinton in the street this morning and what my constitutional and he's very
00:26:06happy to be here in New Zealand of course he has got a great affinity with
00:26:09the place and he says the games have been very good to control there's been
00:26:13no foul play and he but he's been a away from his school for was going to be
00:26:20for a month and he's losing money which is a sad thing
00:26:23so there's Andy Dalton and Brian Lahore
00:26:30it's not often you see Fox slip as low as 33% success rate so he's due to hit
00:26:37one
00:26:43so from his best side and right on cue the lead again extends out to ten points
00:26:56to three and New Zealand's penalty Graham Fox
00:27:03so that 33 and a third percent zips up now to 50%
00:27:24it's amazing to see a New Zealand team with so many from one province in it you
00:27:29know the record before 1987 was seven as the most any team had put into a test
00:27:35match and all can beat that with nine against Italy ten against
00:27:45against the PGMs and 11 today
00:27:56New Zealand today
00:28:00Gomez back to Porter eludes one tackler that's Marcelo Campo the big high
00:28:07center kick that's a good one Crowley waiting crunch coming
00:28:12and that is a mark under genuine and very real pressure which Kieran Crowley has
00:28:18taken he was being closed in on by Schiabio and that was a glorious piece
00:28:27of fullback play from an excellent kick by Marcelo Campo look at that again he
00:28:33had one two three possibly four boomers bearing down but certainly Alejandro
00:28:40Schiabio was right there and that was a good mark for Crowley Castro's that's a
00:28:47quick look at Branca and Pierce it bounced I think off Brooks face there
00:28:51or off his upper chest
00:29:00good clean instructions from Roger Quittenden saying it wasn't straight
00:29:04there was no advantage so he come back for the scrum New Zealand ball
00:29:15this is your gay Alan
00:29:25this is the young man he's played a lot of rugby in South Africa lived there for
00:29:32several seasons in a vital man and the boomers loose forward scheme the blind
00:29:37side flank or those that play left and right mostly
00:29:48Luis Molina their number three the Puma front row is penalized Fox to clear
00:30:02always ground Fox he really thrives on the pressure the big pressure day and
00:30:06that was a classic case with that last kick
00:30:12Dengar to the left in Branca tap ball to Dengar to Gomez
00:30:20as the front row you see Molina nearest to us then cash then Seraphine Dengar
00:30:34that's the halfway line there to the right
00:30:43New Zealand leading by ten points to three away to Fox
00:30:47McCarville left out Kerwin Wriglesbury beats the ball back McCarville Kerwin
00:30:54now the backs are sprinting to be in position for the next phase if they can
00:30:59set it up but the whistle has gone
00:31:04the fence is up very flat Graham Thorne isn't it very flat and the way the all
00:31:10black side are not running on to the ball they should I think they're getting
00:31:14themselves into all sorts of trouble out there
00:31:25McCarville caught and I think New Zealand might abandon that tactic if the
00:31:29referee is not going to penalize the offside by the Pumas Madero out to Campo
00:31:33that look forward and the referee Quinton Sword is the same now the Pumas
00:31:37are getting a bit frustrated you can hear them calling out in exasperation
00:31:42but that was quite definitely for they've got a lot to play for here today
00:31:45and I think they're feeling the pressure a bit you see the Puma backs are right up
00:31:52fat even the wing is up there I think little pop kicks are now on so they're
00:31:59going to test Ango on the 22
00:32:04what Ango again lands up the winger one lands a number 11 has come across from
00:32:13the left-hand side to save the day and that very nearly had Bernie McCarville
00:32:18in under the posts they had to change their tactics a little pop kick over the
00:32:23top and go after it or a higher kick which they did came from Fox
00:32:29Sean Fitzpatrick number two on the 22 oh that's a good throw you see it was
00:32:34the flat fast one to Alan Whetton there are many variations now out to Fox to
00:32:39McCarville again the backs opposite are up flat
00:32:42Zin Zan crashing to the 22 that's Stanley in support also low Gary Whetton
00:32:50Kerwin Crowley waiting on the wings Fox hit hard by Ango that could be a high
00:32:57and dangerous tackle let's have a look at referee Quindon he's decided to take
00:33:04the to take the line out here is that to tackle again Kerwin Fox yeah on a pretty
00:33:14hard tackle seen worse ones penalized
00:33:20Fabio Gomez deep between Kerwin and Crowley
00:33:27they've got time on their side here
00:33:35the Wellington people be watching here closely as well the one person in the
00:33:39crowd Sean Gallaher the father of John Gallaher who arrived in the country from
00:33:43London yesterday watching in the stands today but not seeing his own son play
00:33:47you'll have to wait to see if John Gallagher gets in the New Zealand team
00:33:51for any further matches in this Rugby World Cup
00:34:03that's the Wellington policeman Murray Pierce the only Wellington man in the
00:34:09team today Kirk to Brook the Kerwin
00:34:15or held up and given to Brook again to McCarhill intercept that looked like
00:34:23Rafael Madeira who made the intercept and really the New Zealanders are
00:34:29pushing forward with bursts of pressure and it's a penalty to New Zealand under the
00:34:34posts the Pumas have offended again under the heat of that New Zealand
00:34:38build-up they went over the top and this is a simple three points for New Zealand
00:34:44Porta being explained
00:34:51that was all caused by Zinzan Brook he was in that move three times and he runs
00:34:56off that ball he's very hard to stop there he is taking over from Michael
00:35:01Jones tremendous player look at this again it was a really a Marist Club move
00:35:09from Auckland there was Kerwin he seemed to wait for his club mate to come into
00:35:13the scene this is the Marist man from Auckland here's the third Marist man
00:35:16from Auckland and that was very good combination but there's where the Pumas
00:35:23went over the top and they were penalized by referee Cuddenden
00:35:34it's Hector Silva this will be the last time he coaches the Puma rugby team he's
00:35:38been their coach since 1983 they changed the rules actually to allow him to
00:35:44extend the two-year term traditionally the coach in Argentina only last two
00:35:48years but the 1985 they extended it for two more years to take in the World Cup
00:35:54now I'm not sure who this player is here it's the same man that was hurt before
00:36:00your gay LN
00:36:06but a glorious Wellington afternoon
00:36:11you
00:36:23simple kick coming up for Grant Fox after 25 minutes
00:36:33so it's now a 10-point gap and that's looking comfortable for New Zealand in
00:36:38the first half into the wind and ominous for the Argentinians they as you
00:36:45say the All Blacks are playing into this wind there isn't much of it but they're
00:36:49playing very well in there as as you would imagine when they've got the
00:36:53number of Aucklanders they have in the side they're playing like Auckland have
00:36:56played it's funny I could have sworn this was a New Zealand team Graham picked
00:37:05from the best players in New Zealand but there you are
00:37:10Cahill number 12 Fox number 10
00:37:17for players from this man's club as well University in open
00:37:35well
00:37:40it's a long time ago Keith when I was playing for the University of Auckland
00:37:44in 1968 I was the only member of the All Blacks side from Auckland and now look
00:37:49at them and my club's now University's got four yes four from University four
00:37:55from Marist two from grammar that's the weapon twins and one from Ponsonby
00:38:01well only one South Islander in the New Zealand team today that's Andy Earl
00:38:06number eight
00:38:13big chunk it went in by tempo that's halfway
00:38:23number eight has penalized that's the only South Islander in the New Zealand
00:38:26team and there he is Andy Earl from the Glenmark Club in Canterbury they've also
00:38:31got Bruce Dean's in the squad and Richard Lowe used to play for the club
00:38:38from the penalty Hugo Porta is going to go for a really big one see the halfway
00:38:45line is just in front of him and then 50 meters to the post so it's about 51 few
00:38:51more places on the angle so it's about 52 meters for Hugo Porta
00:39:07Oh great goal great goal from the great man
00:39:13just when the gap was out to 10 points and looking ominous Hugo Porta closes it
00:39:19up now to 13 to 6 that was a good kick because he didn't have the as much
00:39:25Wellington wind as some of the other kickers that have kicked big kicks but he
00:39:28hit it so beautifully and it never really looked like missing so the New
00:39:36Zealand team will know that to offend is a sin against this man the gap is now
00:39:44seven points down to Fabio Gomez
00:39:52he's out in the pool now halfback is one position where the Pumas are not strong
00:39:56at the moment they have problems one of their leading players at halfback
00:40:00doesn't like to travel and other head injuries as well according a club player
00:40:04is the reserve halfback for this match there's Sergio Corocio
00:40:12Trapaglini number eight Corocio feels it again
00:40:24he was driving up towards halfway
00:40:29now is Eliseo Branca biggest man on the field for the Pumas 1 meter 96 102
00:40:36kilograms
00:40:40six three four nine sixty three forty nine
00:40:53Ellen wet this is twin brother Gary David Kirk
00:41:01Carhill Kerwin coming back in from out on the outer space areas to crash up
00:41:08to the center
00:41:17that's what they're trying to do New Zealand set up the play over that
00:41:21advantage line so the force and Russian is sins and Brooke is doing so well
00:41:25there
00:41:29Zealand a totally dominating scrum position who was only only one two scrums
00:41:34out of a dozen that they've been in the game so far which means that they're
00:41:38making the mistakes they're knocking the ball on and we're not throwing it in
00:41:42straight
00:41:47and Elise and free kicks for every New Zealand five to two at the moment
00:41:50Fox and all that was nearly a intercept chance Terry Wright goes down again
00:41:57number 11 it was Alejandro Schiavo Rafael Madero out to Lanza one Lanza at
00:42:05halfway snap down by big man to the car he'll kill it that's halfway Crowley
00:42:19it's a very hard bruising match at the moment that's Alan wet takes Luis Molina
00:42:24back into the rack here's a takes on his opposite number Gabrielle
00:42:30Trevigny my word grandson that's bruising isn't there it's all man-on-man
00:42:36but coming back to that knock on from Argentina with the intercept pass way
00:42:41back here that mr. Clinton didn't see
00:43:00another excellent run by Zin Zan Brooke man who's not unfamiliar with the black
00:43:12shirt of New Zealand he's won it twice up at the Hong Kong sevens and in the
00:43:16sevens in Sydney Fox Stanley McCarville at the 22
00:43:26looks doing good work in there again Kirk finding Fox Crowley this time the
00:43:33speedy man right he is being assisted by his winger over there John Kirwan right
00:43:39across to assist Terry Wright I haven't seen Terry Wright in the game much as
00:43:46yet just taking a couple of very heavy bangs in the first 20 minutes we've got
00:43:50six minutes to go on the clock to half-time
00:43:54Oh
00:44:00behind him
00:44:05skiavio Trevigny
00:44:09Gomez bought up straight up and back
00:44:28made it back beautifully but it hit the foot of one of the big boards coming
00:44:32through he wasn't offside the Argentinians are saying it was offside
00:44:36it's just loose play no problems
00:44:51it's a knock on some Jersey holding in there they pulled the man at the jump
00:44:58and this is a chance a further chance for Argentina to close that gap up
00:45:06so all the penalties to the plumbers in the game so far have been within kicking
00:45:22range of Hugo Porter
00:45:30Argentina's captain for the last ten years
00:45:36and one of the great players certainly one of the great goal kickers Hugo Porter
00:45:42makes the score 13 points tonight but the Argentinians need tries they need at
00:45:48least three tries to get into the quarterfinals so much as they are
00:45:52keeping in touch with the All Blacks they need to get that ball over the line
00:45:55well they could win Graham if they win the game by penalties and Porter's done
00:45:59that a few times I know what you mean if that if the score if they fall behind
00:46:04the All Blacks they've got to score tries that's where they are at the
00:46:06moment but if they win the game and remember last time they played the All
00:46:10Blacks they've got a 21 all draw and Porter's kicked the lot
00:46:15a car held the Stanley to kill it Lanza chasing hard
00:46:32Jim's and Brooke
00:46:35that's the corner flag there and my word those Marist boys up in Auckland will be
00:46:41having a great time in the clubhouse at the moment because there for players the
00:46:46quartet from the Marist Club are certainly pitching and a lot of bursts
00:46:49down the right wing here's one of them John Kirwan well Zinzan Brooke it looks
00:46:53like the ball is actually extension of his arm today he's so close to the ball
00:46:57amazing
00:47:05Gomez now you see that's where the boomers have had problems in the World
00:47:09back yeah I think Gomez is playing quite well today Keith he's had a few
00:47:15runs from the base of the scrum
00:47:31there's the quick look at the Pumas badge you can see that actually it's not
00:47:35a Puma at all on the badge it's actually a member of the Jaguar family
00:47:40because those of you who study mammals will know that a Puma does not have
00:47:44spots so it's actually a young actor which is a member of the Jaguar family
00:47:50not a Puma at all but it was determined as the symbol of Argentina rugby because
00:47:57a reporter in Rhodesia made a mistake thought it was the Puma and called them
00:48:03the Pumas the name caught on even though it's not a Puma at all it's now
00:48:06been of course officially adopted as the monogram and symbol of rugby in
00:48:12Argentina so we're watching the Pumas in action for the second time ever on
00:48:20athletic park the injured man is your gay Ellen
00:48:33the Pumas throw it's back with Fox he'll look out standing on the crash
00:48:43ball wet and Gary wet and clears it out into the centers again this is Terry
00:48:48Wright
00:48:51looking a bit jittery Terry right that one just rolled off the end of his hand
00:48:55he's not getting the ball that well this afternoon Terry right he's not gonna get
00:48:59in front of him when he's running onto it he's had all his passes on his hip or
00:49:02behind this guy of course is a real great hound he can really fly not so
00:49:07strongly built and a real speed stuff
00:49:13just near halftime and just near the 22 and Puma territory New Zealand leading by
00:49:1713 points to 9 Fitzpatrick is up Gomez Porter out to
00:49:24tennis fullback is up this is Angle try to push his hand forward that's Madero
00:49:32number 13 Kerwin gets away from Lanza although Lanza does get him
00:49:39that's his general Angle the fullback coming into the line there but just not
00:49:45able to clear his infield pass for the follow-through
00:49:51look at those Puma backs that I think they're probably actually offside right
00:49:57now very close to it referee could did not look around
00:50:03Kerwin always crashed through on the very narrowest of gaps
00:50:21this was a very narrow blindside as you can see for Kirk and Kerwin to attempt
00:50:26but Kerwin he got through missed a head high and then set up Zin Zanbrook and on
00:50:33his test debut the man scores a try he's just so strong John Kerwin look he's
00:50:39only got about two meters and he goes outside of Lanza and the support comes
00:50:44who else is inside but Zin Zanbrook he just draws the fullback and go and away
00:50:51he goes Zin Zanbrook good try here it is again ground level in ISO slo-mo from
00:50:59John Kerwin he evaded the high tackle and Gary Debrook who had a look and then
00:51:04raced in
00:51:14and so that conversion of the try by Zin Zanbrook by Grant Fox means that at
00:51:30halftime the All Blacks lead the Pumas at Athletic Park by 19 points to nine
00:51:44so the second 40 minutes begin and remember the Argentina team they need to
00:51:57win the game they need to draw the game or they need to score three tries to
00:52:02make it through to the quarterfinals if they don't then on Wednesday night at
00:52:07ten to nine flight AR 881 Aerolinus Argentina departs the only flight out of
00:52:14Auckland for Argentina in a week so they've got a lot to play for if they
00:52:19want to stay in this cup New Zealand on top that back play has not been too
00:52:26impressive let's see how they go in the second 40 minutes Kirk again just
00:52:32running around popping up for a book but it went forward
00:52:38that's turn as
00:52:44see since and Brooke has been very pesky to the Argentinians in the first 40
00:52:51minutes
00:52:56Gomez didn't quite get it and the Argentine team is duffing about in front
00:53:05of their goalposts but Brooke is down
00:53:11he's holding his knee I think that's a let's have a look and see how that
00:53:18happened Brooke coming through
00:53:25that was a very bad landing I think for Zin Zan Brooke see what the situation is
00:53:40it's Gomez number nine also being attended it's 22 year old from Banco
00:53:50National Club and Buenos Aires and he's the club mate of Hugo Porter and Fabian
00:53:55turn as and the coup champions of Buenos Aires in the most recent season
00:54:10second half has just begun and let's have a look at Brooke who is rapidly
00:54:15heading to be one of the new heroes of New Zealand rugby a fairly relaxed Brian
00:54:19Lahore in the stand it's the other leg from the one that's got the big sock on
00:54:29it the big rubberized thigh bandage and it was a penalty awarded to New Zealand
00:54:39for the little scuffle was it great no I think it was playing the ball on the
00:54:44ground actually playing the ball on the ground so look at that that's three
00:54:48points and it's gift week for Grant Fox he's had a couple like that today so a
00:54:58great start for New Zealand and that might knock the stopping out of the
00:55:02Pumas an early start against them 22 to 9 and Fox up to 14 points
00:55:13Hugo Porter's got a lot of problems at the moment he hasn't been playing the
00:55:19best rugby of his career and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it but he is
00:55:23a folk legend in Argentina he's played some magnificent football without doubt
00:55:30the best fly half in the world in the 70s
00:55:37there is a player going off the field down the back and it's Gabrielle
00:55:43Travaglini and that's a sad blow for one of the survivors of the Puma team that
00:55:51played here in 1979 he's heading off the field as Porter restarts New Zealand
00:55:58comfortably in the lead by 22 points to 9 now let's see Gomez
00:56:05McCahill
00:56:17it's Kieran Crowley's clearance up towards halfway Pumas with 14 men at the
00:56:22moment waiting to bring a replacement on you see Brook is clear at the back of
00:56:26the line another one to New Zealand off the Pumas throw Kirk finds Fox McCahill
00:56:38the big slide rule kick across the field being chased well by Terry Wright
00:56:43and that was putting good pressure from Wright on the fullback
00:56:48DiGermo Ango right one of the ball for the quick throw in and referee
00:56:54over the touchline the Puma player wasn't going to hand him the ball so he's
00:57:00bought the penalty in 15 meters and it'll be another shot at goal for Grant
00:57:04Fox I'm sure that Peter Craig is probably sitting at home perhaps in
00:57:09Australia remembering remembering what happened in 1982 he threw the ball over
00:57:15the top of the sponsor's signs okay there he was it was excellent pressure
00:57:21from Terry right he really charged through on Ango and then Wright went
00:57:25across for the kick throw be quick throw because Ango had taken the ball across
00:57:28the touchline but he refused to give him the ball right wanted it for the quick
00:57:33throw in and referee couldn't and saw it penalized him and here's another shot
00:57:37for Grant Fox
00:57:51remember he was down to 33 and a third percent at one stage now he's up to 75
00:58:11percent success rate today here's the replacement for the Puma team Jose
00:58:18Mostanyi
00:58:35we've seen a lot of Hugo Porter kicking off and the Pumas I don't know how their
00:58:40Latin temperament will cope with these repeated penalties flying between the
00:58:45post from Grant Fox plus the tries of course let's see how they do that's
00:58:49Fabian Turnes the man they say is being groomed to take over from Hugo Porter
00:58:58it's 10 meter mark in New Zealand Territory and you see the signal from
00:59:02referee Quinton and he says keep play going it's still moving when it
00:59:06collapses the whistle goes I think the all-black forwards could have a field
00:59:10goal in the second half of the game does just loosen up a bit because the
00:59:14all-black backs are getting knocked over left right and center from the
00:59:17Argentinians who are standing up so flat and I think the tactics will have to
00:59:20change
00:59:25Kirk Fox
00:59:30Campo lost it lost forward by Andy Earle
00:59:38that's Andy Earle playing his fourth Test match today he was one of the baby
00:59:42all-blacks and in this 15 today there were just five of the Cavalier team who
00:59:49went to South Africa so their numbers have been reduced somewhat today on this
00:59:56particular 15 that is Drake in the front row
01:00:04Patrick and Richard Kirk away to Earl didn't really get great speed up to get
01:00:14past Porter
01:00:18LN is there
01:00:26the three stopped it for a scrum
01:00:37six minutes gone second half 25 points tonight the all-blacks are emphatically
01:00:43playing this game there's David Kirk making the signal to Fabio Gomez
01:00:55Crowley's pulled that one back in and is running near halfway they didn't really
01:01:01line up for him McCahill Earl midfield 10-meter mark Brooke Fox
01:01:24well this is not one of the great speeches of New Zealand rugby but he ran
01:01:29around the man there and sets up a corner look at the good break here from
01:01:33Zinz and Brooke little crash run here and a set up pass for Fox and all of a
01:01:38sudden it was clear for Stanley from 40 meters out he ran around the flying
01:01:41defenders and was comfortably in on his own in the corner good try set up by the
01:01:48forwards they got two good more than rucks and then all Joe Stanley had to do
01:01:53was run but he still had to get around a lean and he got round on the outside as
01:01:57a good center should do for a flanker and over he goes from down low you'll
01:02:04see the way Zinz and Brooke drew the defense and go was drawn and then it was
01:02:09Joe Stanley saw the line sure he had lots of room on the outside pinned his
01:02:14ears back and there's the try
01:02:18well the points continue to mount for this New Zealand team it's 29 to 9
01:02:27good strike on the ball by Fox but no conversion he's remains at 17 points
01:02:42and it's 29 to 9 a long way to go and now it's a bit early to be talking yet
01:02:47about the record book because the let's face it the whole record books been
01:02:50rewritten in this World Cup but Stanley's try and Fox is kicking the
01:02:56other tries in the first half it could be on for more big points telly from
01:03:00Grant Fox I think talking of records Keith you've got to have rugby World Cup
01:03:10records and not international test records like they do in the soccer I'd
01:03:15like to see the whole record book rewritten make it all uniform across the
01:03:1816 countries here say and maybe a few others that are capable of playing
01:03:24international rugby at a pretty high level
01:03:39Hugo Porter acting as the referee of the Argentinian side
01:03:46Roger put it in acting a bit like the schoolmaster there with the finger out
01:03:50that's what he is of course
01:04:01back to Porter Crowley waits bounced off Madero and it could be a try
01:04:09somebody was there to touch it down I think it did come off an Argentinian
01:04:17head actually Keith and forced down behind the New Zealand line for a 22
01:04:21long kick no doubt from Fox don't laugh because when the last the last Puma team
01:04:27were here I saw Hugo Porter on several occasions on that tour deliberately hit
01:04:31the ball to touch using soccer skills in a rugby match and it's not uncommon in
01:04:35rugby in Argentina Terry Wright the change of direction with the Laska
01:04:40Karen Crowley kicking deep the straight one driving Pumas back that's Lanza sort
01:04:55of patchwork pattern rugby at the moment Stanley it wasn't there with
01:05:01rank up
01:05:06what do you think of all this Graham it's it's interesting I suppose not much
01:05:10back into it is this no but the Argentinians know that they have to
01:05:13score tries and they're going to have a go but the all-black tackling is pretty
01:05:17good they look like they want to enjoy it in the second half as well the other
01:05:22way they change direction of the play just now
01:05:27it's good tackling by the Argentinians they're getting up quickly and knocking
01:05:32them over as they have to and you've got to remember there's always two sides
01:05:35playing a game of rugby you don't play for your weakness you play for your
01:05:38strength and you know that New Zealand's going to get all the ball so you stand
01:05:41out flat and you knock them over
01:05:47this is one Lanza remember his identical twin brother Pedro is in the reserves
01:05:53the two sets of twins the Lanzas and the wetlands have played against each
01:05:56other in a test before in 1985 match restarts on the 10-meter mark away to
01:06:02Kirk on the blindside oh again it was not quite right for Terry Wright and I
01:06:09guess he'll be getting a to use that New Zealand expression cheesed off out there
01:06:14on the wing because the balls have not been flying at him for a running chance
01:06:18in the game yet last week against Fiji it all went left to Craig Green didn't
01:06:22it
01:06:31Porter gets it going back gets Brooke who tears it from his hands after
01:06:36McCarville oh it could have been an accidental offside he just touched his
01:06:40man that's halfway referee couldn't let it go Kirk a lovely pass to Brooke a
01:06:47penalty to New Zealand they boomers that time were up to fire and it's a
01:06:53penalty midfield skipper Kirk captain Kirk of course he was called many times
01:07:02until that one wore rather thin
01:07:06he's called for the sand and Grant Fox and there'll be another shot at goal
01:07:21it's pretty bruising out there of course Keith and you need a rest every
01:07:25so often the fours don't like doing all the work they like to take some big
01:07:29breaths and get get it back so they can start again it's just a test match we've
01:07:34got to remember
01:07:4122 points against Italy 26 points against Fiji 17 points so far today for
01:07:49Grant Fox
01:08:04that kick was right from what we understand to be the very edge of Fox's
01:08:13range but he struck it beautifully 32 points tonight
01:08:2368 points in two and three-quarter matches for Grant Fox
01:08:35so one thing's for sure wherever they are the Fijian team will be delighted
01:08:40with the way things are going it looks like they'll be safely into the
01:08:43quarterfinals against France Eden Park on Sunday
01:08:51Crowley to the thumb McCarhill that was hospital past stuff that could gracious
01:08:57I would like to be in Karen Crowley's shoes now and I'd say he'd have a little
01:09:03word to say to Joe Stanley for that little hospital one
01:09:10the All Blacks have scored a hundred and seventy six points in the World Cup
01:09:14Super
01:09:16good break by Kemper caught by Pierce Alan Gomez Caruso that's the corner
01:09:26flag here come the boomers
01:09:33that's the most meaningful charge the boomers have put on the all-black line
01:09:45now all giving Roger Quitman a lot of advice there the Argentinian players
01:09:49offsides the same in any language I don't keep
01:09:55so let's see what this time they're on attack close to the line they put the
01:10:00big stomach up they come in the front look at the stress and strain on low
01:10:05and perspective and it's now a tight head to New Zealand
01:10:10they'll burst away
01:10:20it's gone to the boomers that's Lanza Angle
01:10:27the ball is just hanging about down the back Stanley has to play that from the
01:10:32goal line but this could be on for a breakout by Kevin and we know he can do
01:10:36it caught at the 22 it's on the boomer side
01:10:42Degra now Porter the little kick for the corner
01:10:56this is the last part of it with Seraphine Degra out to the backs the
01:11:06Gomez Porter involved with this beautiful little kick flying for the
01:11:11corner and one Lanza is in for the try perhaps a black mark against John
01:11:18Kerwin and Kieran Crowley for running it out from their own goal line but the
01:11:22little kick the perfect kick from Porter and Lanza did the rest he's quick got
01:11:25the good bounce the goal line loomed up ahead
01:11:35so as soon as the boomers score a try even though they're behind we start to
01:11:39think about tries they have to score three
01:11:47and Porter kicks the conversion
01:11:52Hector Silva nail-biting stuff with him and you have to get out the calculator
01:11:57to add it all up 32 points to 15 is the score but remember they have to lose but
01:12:06score four tries so three more to go they could lose and score three tries
01:12:11and not lose by more than 35 points and get through so the boomers although
01:12:19they're in the losing end of the game are playing a game probably against a
01:12:23sort of a wider game of rugby probably the first time we've ever experienced
01:12:27this ground they're playing some mythical team that they're in the middle
01:12:30distance that we think Fiji will be just a bit concerned now that the try scored
01:12:39by the boomers converted by Porter will put them closer to knocking Fiji out of
01:12:43the quarterfinal place it's still a long way ahead of the boomers 10 meter
01:12:50mark down at Kirk that was a crazy try Graham it came forward and back the
01:12:58All Blacks nearly broke out the score one themselves yes if the game hadn't
01:13:02been so loose I don't think they would have tried to run it out Porter
01:13:09Madero is left out and goes up this is Campo who's got the big kick he had the
01:13:14excellent centering kick rally
01:13:28there's Marcelo Campo before this World Cup he'd been out of the Argentina team
01:13:33for five years
01:13:39Dengra Corosio fast hands now Rafael Madero 29 year old veteran near halfway
01:13:47Gomez put by Gary Whitton
01:13:56and down at the bottom of that ruck is Hugo Porter he doesn't get caught that
01:14:02many times by a group of forwards he's still holding on to the ball
01:14:15nice touch by Zinzan the young man on the field to haul up the veteran
01:14:33together
01:14:49New Zealand team retires Gomez Porter straight to Crowley
01:15:02he's your angle 22 year old from La Plata his first test match today
01:15:19man in front the idea is right Pumas are very keen Graham aren't they they've got
01:15:33that try so that's just a little sniff of the quarterfinal for them
01:15:3832 points to 15 way to Fox long ball right gets what a run-on to at last
01:15:49nearly got away Whitton and Brooke were there real quick
01:15:52Makai has thrown out so there he is from Auckland
01:15:59Tony McCahill also a 22 year old
01:16:17Gomez Porter running it out from front of the post
01:16:20Tunis Madero Lanza who scored the try good tackle by killing Crowley that
01:16:29wasn't late well we saw a real close-up of that one
01:16:32from John Killen it certainly didn't look like from up here now they're
01:16:37trying it again after the big guy Alessia Branca Gomez
01:16:45Oh just after Campo dropped in his feet Marcelo Campo your guy Ellen Diego Cash
01:16:55Dindra Ellen again Gomez Porter Fabian Tunis
01:17:05well they are picking themselves up the Argentinians and running out of the ball
01:17:16the tackling came from the all-black side with a couple of dubious little not
01:17:22forwards in that movement
01:17:36but as you say Keith the Argentinians have got a sniff of that quarterfinal if
01:17:42they can score two more tries tell you what Graham I've got this book of rules
01:17:47here it's about half an inch thick of what the alternatives are well you get
01:17:51close and I'm sweating because if it gets close we're gonna have to work it
01:17:55out but you've given us a history lessons or a geography lesson on the
01:17:58Pumas you can now give us a you've given us a mathematical lesson just to repeat
01:18:03Argentina can get through to the quarterfinals by winning the game by
01:18:07drawing the game which would give them three points and put them ahead of Fiji
01:18:12they could lose the game but score four tries and would put them straight in
01:18:16ahead of Fiji they could lose score three tries and stay within 35 points
01:18:22but here is a sad blow for them because the little man who's going to be they
01:18:26say the man to replace Hugo Porter has crashed down in this incident and Fabian
01:18:31Turnez is out of the game
01:18:44so two replacements will be needed by the Pumas they're really trying hard now
01:18:52to get up to those three tries and stay close
01:18:57Porter lovely kick through again for the other winger Campo well Graham he
01:19:02certainly has still plenty of slick tactics and there's the referee
01:19:06Quinton having a word with Kirk so maybe Kirk was giving some advice to referee
01:19:10Quinton but he didn't appreciate
01:19:27well there it is the the twins are on each side now there is that's the other
01:19:35twin Pedro Lanza and I guess they'll be looking forward to next Sunday because
01:19:41that's their birthday they'd like to celebrate it in the quarterfinal Gomez
01:19:48Porter Madero Makahu makes the tackle Brooke wettened
01:19:55Kirk clears still in play the two twins are getting back look at that
01:20:03that's Pedro Lanza and one and Kerwin gets them both
01:20:09born on the 7th of June
01:20:191962 so 25 next Sunday
01:20:25Oh
01:20:31well snaffled off the ground by wettened Earl to Brooke that's the 22 Kirk
01:20:55it all started because it was a tap back and it was Gomez and all sorts of
01:21:03trouble once again it was Brooke so close gave it to Gary wet news hit it up
01:21:07now watch number eight Andy Earl running like a fly half he sold the dummy really
01:21:12with the body and Porter came across wasn't too keen on the tackle and scored
01:21:16the try he scored the time but Willie Comer's hair Andy Earl from Glenmark in
01:21:23North Canterbury had to shrug off a sort of a jersey pull at the end of the
01:21:26lineup to get through support make the pass to Brooke down they charged to the
01:21:3022 he was on the deck and away to the left and when he got up he was like a
01:21:34fly half and here's where the man from Glenmark in North Canterbury Andy Earl
01:21:39runs on to score his first test try
01:21:53Oh
01:22:00well he put it down the same channel as the one before from that position not his
01:22:08the side he likes grunt Fox
01:22:23now here's Richard Lowe looking like he'd like to score his first test try
01:22:29Fox, McCarhill, Stanley
01:22:34Wright and Angle
01:22:36thank you Jermal, Angle
01:22:38well here comes the quick throw perhaps
01:22:42now they've gone for a standard set line out start no it is a quick one tapped to
01:22:48Kirk Foxter Stanley got a difficult one got it well
01:22:55Alan Whetton minus the headband now Kieran Crowley
01:23:01McCarhill
01:23:03Zinzanne Brooke
01:23:05Gary Whetton
01:23:07he hasn't scored a try in a test match yet
01:23:09and Foxter touches down
01:23:11but you can see I'm sure
01:23:13that a sneaky little footman
01:23:15over there
01:23:17footman over the touch line
01:23:19but anyway the whistle had gone
01:23:21they're enjoying it now
01:23:23the All Blacks Keith
01:23:25they're supporting each other so well
01:23:27and the forwards are
01:23:29are even smiling
01:23:41so there's Zinzanne Brooke
01:23:43as we keep saying he's so close to the ball
01:23:45and Gary Whetton had to go down
01:23:47and watch the way Foxter Stanley gets it
01:23:49when he puts his foot into touch
01:23:51goes over there goes the corner flag
01:23:57Gary Whetton's been in the ball game a long time
01:23:59this is his 24th test match
01:24:01and he's yet to score a try in an official test
01:24:03he scored for the All Blacks before
01:24:05he's taken one in the chest there
01:24:09and he was piling in over the top
01:24:11I think when he took the ball down
01:24:13we could see he wasn't going to go anywhere
01:24:15I think he fell badly
01:24:17as he went to the ground
01:24:19to set that ball up
01:24:25this will be where Whetton gets the bump
01:24:27oh yes he takes the ball
01:24:29that was the end of the ball it was end on
01:24:31so that would be a sharp jab in his chest
01:24:33that would be very painful
01:24:37the game resumes 12 minutes to play
01:24:39Kirk
01:24:41Fox
01:24:43Stanley Kerwin's in
01:24:45Crowley up
01:24:47and Crowley's in
01:24:49he got a try there against England two years ago
01:24:51and that's saved in the patch
01:24:53Crowley's in again
01:25:01standard back play
01:25:03with the skip pass
01:25:05right past in front of
01:25:07McCarhill, Kerwin and his extra man
01:25:09got a bit crowded with right
01:25:11but coming up like a left winger was Kieran Crowley
01:25:15if you have a look at the Argentinians
01:25:17there's about five of them
01:25:19but when Kerwin comes round on the outside
01:25:21look one, two, three, four of them go to him
01:25:23and intelligent play
01:25:25whips the ball out on his left to Kieran Crowley
01:25:27and Kieran Crowley does the rest
01:25:37Crowley's in
01:25:39So Fox has missed a few this afternoon, but he's still got 20 points.
01:26:07It's 40 points to 15 at the moment.
01:26:09He still wouldn't be happy because he's a perfectionist as Grant Fox, as most people
01:26:17that came from Auckland Grammar are, of course, Keith.
01:26:24They won't begin to start talking about secondary schools in this New Zealand team.
01:26:31There are about four from Graham Thorne's old school of Auckland Grammar in there.
01:26:34The Wettins.
01:26:35Fitzpatrick.
01:26:36No, he's not.
01:26:37Fox.
01:26:38John Drake as well, so there are four.
01:26:51Very famous old All Black, Jack Finlay, was telling me at Palmerston North the other day
01:26:54that we should check the record books, but the Christchurch Boys High, first 15, he thought
01:26:58in 1921 had six or was it more than six players went on to become All Blacks.
01:27:09John Drake got his first game for the All Blacks against an Argentinian team on the
01:27:13tour there in 1985, but he came in as a replacement, Kirk.
01:27:18Fox for right side, Crowley there to support, so is Alan Wettin.
01:27:26Notice Wettin, he starts with the headband.
01:27:27It never lasts the full 80 minutes, but one thing for sure, Alan Wettin does.
01:27:32A few knees going up there as well as Ango took the ball.
01:27:48Only about seven minutes left, and time ticks away for the Pumas.
01:27:53That's that throw that's a very good one by Fitzpatrick.
01:27:56A low, flat one too, beautifully timed to Alan Wettin's jump.
01:27:59Richard Lowe's got the ball.
01:28:01This is about 18 metres out.
01:28:04Earl again, Zinzane Brooke, you'll see the goal line come into those shots.
01:28:13Brooke still charging with the ball.
01:28:16Now he's lost it to Dengra, to Gomez, the two halfbacks.
01:28:26What a match he's had, getting off the floor, Zinzane Brooke.
01:28:48OK, the Pumas, oh that's ambitious stuff, oh and Kerwin's going to get a tryout.
01:28:54No, he's just a bit short.
01:28:59I noticed that the Fuglebacks were standing behind the goal line.
01:29:02Obviously something was on, and it was a little pop kick by Porter from behind his lineman.
01:29:06John Kerwin didn't just have enough to stretch out inches,
01:29:11probably wasn't long enough with his arm at full extent.
01:29:14There's the goal line, it's not a 5 metre scrum, but it's Puma ball.
01:29:27Yes, and once it goes over that goal line, they're in an invidious position, the Pumas,
01:29:31because if they hook it, it's in no man's land,
01:29:36and David Kirk is so quick at getting over that line.
01:29:41Gomez, they are going to run it out from behind the line.
01:29:45Porter, lost ball, who wants it?
01:29:52So we're going to see another scrum, no wait a minute, penalty.
01:29:55He's going back to the 5 metre line for the penalty.
01:30:01Now, let's see what the New Zealanders do.
01:30:04There's the tap.
01:30:07Alan Whetton.
01:30:15Now somebody got stuck in to Whetton after the ball was scored,
01:30:20and it looked to me like it might have been Hugo Porter.
01:30:25Alan Whetton joins that little club that have scored in every World Cup game.
01:30:30And let's look at that again, 44 to 15, the points are really mounting.
01:30:35The All Blacks are a bit angry about that,
01:30:37and referee Quinton is speaking sternly to Hugo Porter.
01:30:40Look at Porter, number 10, and that is card down on the side of the head of Alan Whetton.
01:30:47And that is to be condemned.
01:30:52He's still talking to him.
01:30:54He might be off, remember, he might be off, no.
01:31:00Well I think he's a very lucky man.
01:31:03Perhaps just the reputation of the man stopped him from being sent off there,
01:31:07because the referees had a meeting earlier in the tournament in Auckland,
01:31:12just before it started, and it was laid out to them in very stern manner
01:31:17that the use of the boot in aggressive manner means you are automatically sent off.
01:31:3344 to 15, the Pumas are gone now.
01:31:40And that's a fine conversion by Fox, 46 points to 15.
01:31:49Let's look at that again.
01:31:50It's a penalty on halfway.
01:31:52Well let's have a look at there, there goes Porter now.
01:31:54There's Porter, hard down with his boots.
01:31:56There's just a wee element of doubt as to whether that was deliberate.
01:31:59I'll give Porter the benefit of the doubt there.
01:32:02He's been penalised.
01:32:03The All Blacks have had a penalty at halfway because of that incident.
01:32:05It's out to Terry Wright, but the pass was called.
01:32:08Now that's a rule, a law you might not explain to you.
01:32:12If you infringe after a try has been scored,
01:32:16the restart at halfway is a penalty against the team that infringed.
01:32:20Or at the restart of any movement, a line-out or a scrum.
01:32:23It can be taken anywhere along the halfway,
01:32:25it doesn't have to be taken on the centre spot.
01:32:27That's just more or less a logical place to take it.
01:32:32Disappointment in the faces and frames of the Argentina boomers
01:32:38as they head out of Rugby's first World Cup.
01:32:41A team that came here with much hope,
01:32:43though many Argentinians were critical of the team.
01:32:45Just a couple of minutes left in the game.
01:32:49Fox, McCarhill, Crowley.
01:32:52The New Zealand back play has not been good today.
01:32:55I'm talking here about set play.
01:32:58What have you thought of it?
01:33:00It hasn't been good.
01:33:02The moves haven't worked.
01:33:04They seem to be flat-footed and up too close to the advantage line.
01:33:08Fox is going to now try and kick for position.
01:33:12He's not going to find touch.
01:33:16Back goes Campo.
01:33:20He finds touch.
01:33:23So perhaps time for one more try.
01:33:27It's no good to the Argentinians.
01:33:31They're going to catch the flight that Keith was talking about.
01:33:4046 points to 15.
01:33:42New Zealand have scored 190 points in the World Cup.
01:33:46Richard Lowe.
01:33:49Kirk, the captain.
01:33:52Brook plays half-back.
01:33:54He's done everything else.
01:33:56He'd rather have fired his pass, though.
01:33:58Penalty to New Zealand.
01:34:02That's one taken by Fox.
01:34:04He didn't want the points from the three.
01:34:06McCarhill kicked away by Porter.
01:34:08I think he might give Porter the benefit of the doubt
01:34:10on that decision with Alan Whetton.
01:34:12On second look, it looked like he was tumbling a little.
01:34:14Are you happy with that, Graham?
01:34:16Yes, if we're going to look at the replays,
01:34:18and we want to be fair that he didn't know
01:34:20where he was going to put his foot.
01:34:22David Kirk caught the foot of Gomez there
01:34:25as he took the short kick.
01:34:27So 10 metres further up the field,
01:34:29but they'll have to take a tap kick again.
01:34:35It's a very close game.
01:34:37It's a very close game.
01:34:39It's a very close game.
01:34:42OK.
01:34:44The high one from Porter.
01:34:48Kirk gets the man, and down goes David Kirk.
01:34:51That's a send-off offence.
01:34:53There's no...
01:34:55That is disgusting, disgraceful.
01:34:57There was no effort at all
01:34:59to even try and tackle a man,
01:35:01and that is so dangerous,
01:35:03and that is off-the-field stuff.
01:35:05Alejandro Schiavio came right through on David Kirk.
01:35:08Let's look and see if we agree with what he said.
01:35:11There he is in centre frame,
01:35:13and he sets himself,
01:35:15Kirk and the ball, and boof.
01:35:17It wasn't even a tackle.
01:35:19It was shoulder only.
01:35:22So the Boomers are sticking in some of the mean stuff
01:35:25towards the end of this game.
01:35:27There it was.
01:35:29Just took out the man very high,
01:35:31shoulder and neck.
01:35:33That is extremely dangerous play
01:35:35by number 7, Alejandro Schiavio.
01:35:37And Bruce Deans might be getting a bit excited
01:35:40but I just will not condone that.
01:35:42You go for the ball, yes,
01:35:44but you don't just go straight for the man,
01:35:46and you go high,
01:35:48and that could have taken David Kirk's head off.
01:35:50And I'm sure that some other referees,
01:35:52he wouldn't have even hesitated.
01:35:54He would have been taking the early shower.
01:35:56Well, Kirk, captain of New Zealand
01:35:58through these World Cup matches.
01:36:00He doesn't look 100%.
01:36:02He's doing an impersonation of Glenn Webb
01:36:04just there at the moment.
01:36:06The Welshman who took a thunderous knock also.
01:36:09But he is a victorious captain for the third time.
01:36:11And the Boomers are on their flight home on Wednesday.
01:36:13New Zealand have thrashed them
01:36:15by 46 points to 15.
01:36:17They scored six tries
01:36:19and Fox added
01:36:2122 points with the boot.
01:36:23David Kirk, they'll be asking
01:36:25the questions to see if he's OK.
01:36:27But he is the victorious captain
01:36:29for the third time.
01:36:31They scored 70 points against Italy.
01:36:33They scored 74 points against Fiji.
01:36:35And today, 46 to 15.
01:36:37They have beaten Argentina.
01:36:39New Zealand, the group winners
01:36:41comfortably through
01:36:43to the quarterfinals.
01:36:45The New Zealand coach, Brian Lahore,
01:36:47flanked by the selectors John Hart and Alex Wiley
01:36:49are there. Disappointment on the faces
01:36:51of the Boomers.
01:36:53There's referee Roger Quittenden.
01:36:55And the Boomers come in.
01:36:57They'll be heading for home.
01:36:59There's Andy Dalton, the non-playing New Zealand captain.
01:37:01A bit like the Harry Hoffman
01:37:03of New Zealand rugby at the moment.
01:37:06There's David Kirk heading for the dressing room.
01:37:08No chance really of an interview there today.
01:37:10Dr. Bill Treadwell, the doctor for today,
01:37:12looking anxiously after him down the corridor.
01:37:14And there are
01:37:16the disappointed men
01:37:18of the Boomers, 15.
01:37:20And that was a sad ending to the game
01:37:22with that strong tackle by Alejandro Siavio.
01:37:24But it was a comfortable
01:37:26victory for the New Zealand team
01:37:28by 46 points to 15.
01:37:30So, Graham Thorne, your impressions?
01:37:32New Zealand, are they ready for the big one
01:37:35in the quarter-finals?
01:37:37The Fords are definitely
01:37:39looking very good, Keith.
01:37:41Very mobile pack.
01:37:43And they go hunting so close to the ball.
01:37:45Michael Jones didn't play,
01:37:47but Zinzan Brook just went in
01:37:49as if he'd played all his life in the all-black shirt.
01:37:51It was a tremendous performance from the Fords.
01:37:53A bit disappointed, I'm afraid, with the backs,
01:37:55especially from set play.
01:37:57Kirk, Brook, Stanley, Earl, Crowley
01:37:59and Whetton scored the tries for New Zealand.
01:38:01Fox added the 22
01:38:03extra points from the boot.
01:38:05And there it is, a score of 46 to 15
01:38:07for New Zealand on a sunny
01:38:09athletic park in Wellington.
