00:00:00and so the formalities completed we're almost set to go here another quick look
00:00:05at the Argentinian side that lines up this afternoon and this is a most
00:00:10inexperienced side as I mentioned before only three of these players have had 10
00:00:14or more caps the most experienced is number three Diego Cash with 32 Pablo
00:00:19Garraton the captain has had about 19 caps and Diego Cuesta-Silva the left
00:00:24wing three-quarter is an experienced player Australia have had a very
00:00:32settled side all year the stars to watch for Australia David Campisi on the left
00:00:37wing side Michael Leiter and Nick Farr-Jones at halfback in first five
00:00:40eight and in the forward pack the tough front row of Daley Cairns and McKenzie
00:00:46and the dynamic flanker Willie Ofahengawe
00:00:54David Bishop of New Zealand is today's referee and in fact Dave Bishop today
00:01:03becoming New Zealand's most capped international referee this will be his
00:01:0714th international and he now takes over as the leading New Zealand referee from
00:01:13Pat Murphy who refereed 13 test matches in the 60s and 70s
00:01:21assisting Dave Bishop will be fellow New Zealander Keith Lawrence and Patrick
00:01:26Rabanne from France
00:01:32so Australia go into this match as hot favorites Jamie Salmon and one will
00:01:36expect after perhaps a slow start that they'll take charge of this match fairly
00:01:40early yes they'll be looking for the first 20 minutes really to impose
00:01:43themselves and I can see them launching the back row Poydivan Ofahengawe
00:01:47and Eales into the Argentinians I've really pushed them around and turning
00:01:52them around so Michael Leiter to get this match underway for Australia in a
00:01:58glorious conditions at Strade Park and the first kick is made by Abizu and
00:02:04already it's going to be an attacking lineup for the Australians number seven
00:02:09there is Willie Ofahengawe Simon Poydivan running off the back number
00:02:12six and Australia just 18 meters out from the Argentinian line referee
00:02:18Bishop making sure that the gap is in the line out and it's Phil Kearns with
00:02:23the throw tap by Rod McCall Tony Daly number one takes it in Australian
00:02:31forwards driving the blue and whites back 15 meters from the line they're
00:02:37staying on their feet good solid mauling here by Australia Ofahengawe has
00:02:44it their number six Poydivan reaching in for it this is an ominous stuff for
00:02:50Argentina as Australia charge up they're getting very close to the line
00:02:53here holding it up nicely and finally referee Bishop as they go to ground
00:03:00falls for the set scrum that's an impressive start by the Australian
00:03:04absolutely they must have made 30 yards or so there and they've all got a touch
00:03:08they've all got some physical contact and this first scrum will be very
00:03:11testing for Argentina
00:03:17so the scrum to be set again by Bishop just a minute and a half gone on this
00:03:23game and Argentina defending and we have an injury break here
00:03:30referee Bishop just checking the mark and now going back to see who in fact
00:03:36has received the injury so Australia coming to this match with a slightly
00:03:40heavier board pack but if one thing that Argentina can do and that is a scrum
00:03:43it's pretty well they have good technique absolutely certainly cash
00:03:47Mendez are probably the two best forwards in terms of technique and in
00:03:50terms of ability there's probably about 15 years apart between the two of them
00:03:54but Mendez has proved himself to be a top scrummager and obviously cash with
00:03:58over 30 cups to his name knows what it's about but this will be a worry for
00:04:02Australia if this injury goes on because they want to get on with this Diego Cash
00:04:07on the far side there he's a former Argentina hooker as a matter of fact
00:04:10moved out to tighthead prop Federico Mendez there on the right he's the
00:04:15loosehead prop just 19 years of age played his first international game at
00:04:20the age of 18 so back we go to this attacking scrum
00:04:26it'll be interesting if Australia go for quick board here or go for a forward
00:04:30momentum I think they'll probably want to give the backs a run
00:04:34Bar Jones feeding the scrum, held in the back by Eales, good scrum here by Australia edging up
00:04:39towards the line just two or three meters short then Argentina applied the
00:04:42pressure here it is for Horan number 12 passed put on the ground by Bar Jones
00:04:49and knocked on so Argentina repulsed that challenge Nick Bar Jones running
00:04:54onto the pass from Tim Horan spilled it forward and Argentina get the next put
00:04:59into the scrum this game in pool three the other sides in this pool Wales and
00:05:06Western Samoa held in the back by Carreras Camadon gets it back to Abizu
00:05:13charge down here's a chance that in fact has been forced by Argentina rather
00:05:18luckily and they scramble it out for a 22 dropout Abizu's kick was charged
00:05:27and it was a question of where it bounced and unfortunately for Argentina went to one of their players
00:05:32Sandro Abizu
00:05:37all being contested well by Argentina Carreras is the number eight forward with
00:05:42the dark hair longish dark hair and the kick made by Abizu that's the first time
00:05:48really that Argentina have been able to breathe easy as the Sandro Abizu clears
00:05:54there appears to be yet another injury this time to an Argentinian player but
00:06:02Pablo Garreton slowly to the back of the layup but he's okay
00:06:07John Eales has really arrived on the international rugby scene a magnificent
00:06:14leaper and there's a good example for you he's playing at number eight today
00:06:18he's standing up close in the line now that was a lovely leap and Argentina I
00:06:22think again a struggle in the lineouts the fight of these Australian fires yes
00:06:25they've got three renowned line up men Coco McCall and obviously Eales and I
00:06:30think Argentina will struggle but obviously how Eales moves up and down
00:06:34the line and who jumps to the back
00:06:39Phil Kearns to throw right on halfway no score in the game and a free kick has
00:06:46gone against Argentina an infringement in the line out
00:06:53now Michael liner may use the bright Fox tactic here of kicking down the
00:07:04touchline but not out in fact I think he was probably aiming for touch there and
00:07:07just made a bit of a hash of it and the clearing kick is a good one from
00:07:12Laborde
00:07:18notice yesterday in the New Zealand's England game that the players weren't
00:07:21always timing their punts well now it was ironic how many touches were missed
00:07:26yesterday because I'm very popular but we're going to be Argentina called a
00:07:31short and a quick line at that time many vigorous wrecking going on there
00:07:35clearly Argentinian players launching themselves in over the top so let's see
00:07:41how this Argentine scrum holds up it's Argentina's ball Gonzalo come out on it
00:07:49was rated very very highly in Argentina many people say that this youngster he's
00:07:53only 20 years of age will ultimately be the best halfback Argentina has ever had
00:07:57and there's enormous pressure in there Australia have possibly the best front
00:08:04row in the world daily turns in the Kenzie
00:08:09I'm a dog
00:08:17it's away from five jobs did it well to coming down about the 10-meter line row
00:08:23back in to meet it almost claimed by the board a the new man in the side
00:08:28Argentina have it through Garrett on but there was an infringement it was knocked
00:08:33on by Argentina
00:08:37you're chasing by Argentina they've got the high ball they unfortunately then
00:08:41lost it straight away but they're in Australia's heart taken off the back by
00:08:45eels bar Jones going down the blindside good run by far George Roebuck is in
00:08:49Roebuck through often Galway is there loves it across and Campisi getting
00:08:57close and David Campisi scores Australia's first try at the World Cup
00:09:02the world record holder takes his prize and test of 41 and that was an excellent
00:09:08break down the blindside by Australia it's taken them eight minutes to get on
00:09:12the board it almost inevitably it was David Campisi the master finisher who
00:09:18completed it for Australia it was a lovely run by far Jones good support
00:09:25from Marty Roebuck lovely sidestep by Roebuck loose forward Willie offering
00:09:31Galway was there and then David Campisi had a lot of work to do stood up as
00:09:36winger Martin Tehran and then kept crabbing inside and with a little bit of
00:09:40assistance from one or two of his forwards David Campisi scores Australia's
00:09:44first try in the game it was super the backup support play because when we bought
00:09:50came robot came through Campisi was being blocked by his winger and offering
00:09:54Galway came in support on the inside and then created the try and there's
00:09:58lots of Australian jerseys all around available for the pass so the world
00:10:06record try scorer scores Australia's first try now this is the world record
00:10:12holder for points in test rugby Michael liner up to this point 623 points in his
00:10:1947 test today test number 48
00:10:31he's pushed this one away to the left side line a cousin doesn't convert the
00:10:34try scored by Campisi but it is a 4-0 advantage to Australia and we've been
00:10:41going down nine minutes in the first half
00:10:50I'll be soon from halfway this time really Australia have stretched their
00:10:55legs in the back line and it's fairly ominous for Argentina that there were so
00:11:00many players able to break tackles
00:11:05Tim Horne hasn't seen too much action out at second 5-8 yet he is a quite
00:11:10brilliant defender Tim Horne we'll see more him as the tournament progresses
00:11:15Troy Coker has come up close on the line-up behind him is Rod McCall at the
00:11:19two lock forwards here's one for Argentina though lovely pass by Cameron
00:11:23but Albizu didn't run on to it it was knocked knocked on by Laborde
00:11:27referee playing advantage here and it'll be in an attacking scrum once more for
00:11:34Australia
00:11:39Argentina have a good record against Australia over the years
00:11:45and they've won test matches in 79, 83 and 87 so the Australians will be just a
00:11:52little weary as Eales works it again off and Garway goes again good tackle put on
00:11:56him though by Garrett Tom but Australia carry it on but Poydivan trying to take
00:12:00the pass from Eales lost it forward but the Australian loose forwards working
00:12:05well together Jamie absolutely it's a second back road move they've done
00:12:08working right to the right hand side of the field and offering Garway and Eales
00:12:12and Poydivan looks as though even though it's a new partnership we'll be getting
00:12:15together
00:12:18Argentina have been defending right throughout this game so far and offside
00:12:23this time
00:12:29Simon Poydivan the man who was offside
00:12:36Spiraled away downfield nicely taken by Far Jones Campisi off again
00:12:46beautiful run by Campisi looking to link up with off and Garway ball coming
00:12:52rather slowly for Far Jones there it is now across the line a Roebuck is in
00:12:56Horan takes the pass 10 meters out on Argentina's territory little jab ahead
00:13:01by Nick Far Jones and that is a lovely kick by Far Jones it's not in touch and
00:13:06Del Castillo did well but the whistle has gone
00:13:13the referee I think there might have been a little bit of shepherding going
00:13:17on there Australia have taken it quickly not looking for the kick at penalty goal
00:13:21charging towards the line I think it's Coker there ball is available for Far
00:13:26Jones but referee Bishop has decided to take the scrum so it's been all
00:13:37Australia in the first 12 minutes of this game Argentina it's hard to
00:13:42remember them being in Australian territory at any stage they haven't
00:13:46settled at all Argentina Australia making all the play Nick Far Jones has
00:13:51got his forwards going forward all the time it was quite unlucky there
00:13:55Argentina getting penalised for obstruction but if Australia were to
00:13:59score again now I think there could be a few more points coming their way a
00:14:03little man on the right-wing side Martin Teran let's hope he gets a chance to run
00:14:08because he is very very fast but he'll be in a defensive role here as
00:14:13Australia attack close to the line scrum starting to screw a little bit taken out
00:14:21Australia pushing on but accidentally offside against Australia they drove in
00:14:26the players who were ahead of them
00:14:30a little Garrett on misunderstanding the call from Dave Bishop he took a quick
00:14:34tap kick and was off but in fact the call was for a scrum so once again a
00:14:39defensive scrum Australia pushing hard here ball loose near the line and it's
00:14:44into the end goal area or is it if I beat a scrum I think
00:14:55is partially charged by often Galway in fact and it is a touch in goal
00:15:03so the pressure once again from Australia
00:15:14we're pretty having a word with Mendes and McKenzie Mendes on the loose head
00:15:23side for Argentina McKenzie you're McKenzie on the tight head side a word
00:15:27about the binding from referee Bishop there
00:15:35so now bar Jones Australia hammering away here and that'll be against the
00:15:41captain I think quickly taken by bar Jones or is it no he's got to kick the
00:15:49goal instead the man offside was in fact Jose Santamarina and so here's a chance
00:16:00once again for Michael lineup and there was Santamarina diving in and he was in
00:16:06an offside position Jones has decided after looking at the
00:16:11options that liner will kick the goal I think it's he's quite right to settle it
00:16:16down a bit they may well have gone over from a quick penalty there's there's no
00:16:20urgency yet in terms of time go 7-0 up give liner some more some more
00:16:25practice you may need it with these balls over here and they're quite happy
00:16:29settling down with that Argentina have somehow got to find a way of winning
00:16:34ball at the moment they're not in the game at all and they've just got to
00:16:38somehow get down to Australia's half
00:16:54that's a better kick by lineup so that's his first goal of the 1991 World Cup
00:16:59failed to convert the prize goodbye camp easy bit now kicks the penalty goal
00:17:04Michael liner Australia ahead by seven points to nil and it's been 15 minutes
00:17:09into the first half and Argentina really haven't fired a shot as yet
00:17:16crowd at this lovely little ground here at Straddy Park watching the kickoff
00:17:32down it goes for liner and he's given that a decent hoof downfield lovely
00:17:37kick by liner Martin Tehran with it an elusive little player it's been snapped
00:17:45up here by Phil Kearns and away goes the Australian hooker Phil Kearns
00:17:48cleverly stayed in field 22-meter line in Argentina's territory and here's
00:17:53another chance for Australia up it goes to off in Garway hard man to put down
00:17:57charging onto the pass was Coker now it's Poitibon this is impressive play
00:18:01from Australia Tony Daly is five meters out and a penalty Argentina went in over
00:18:09the top and this is an impressive start from the co-favorites for this World
00:18:14Championship Australia and that I think tells the story doesn't it about 80%
00:18:22territorial advantage goes to Australia and here is Michael liner just a couple
00:18:27of minutes after kicking a penalty lining up yet another good to see the
00:18:34big boys the front row very much involved there good run by Cairns Tony
00:18:37Daly gets on the act as well showing good support play good hands quick
00:18:42ruck would have been a bit quicker for Nick Fartones to have kept up with it
00:18:45all but off they go again and off in Garway I mean he really is gonna take
00:18:49some stopping the whole tournament
00:18:53Argentina having real trouble stopping this rampaging Australian forward pack
00:18:58and Tony Daly really pinned his ears back and he went and Argentina killed
00:19:04the ball and liner is once again in a handy position
00:19:12no problems once again for Michael liner two penalty goals inside two minutes
00:19:22and Australia already out to a 10 nil advantage in this game
00:19:28and we've been going about 16 17 minutes in the first half
00:19:42so Argentina shocked by this early onslaught from the Australians haven't
00:20:02really been in the hunt up till now and it's been knocked forward by an
00:20:07Argentina Argentinian player this time
00:20:12the Pumas appear to be holding their own in the scrums but that really is the
00:20:16only about the only facet of the game they are
00:20:19Far Jones just out from the 22
00:20:25back for liner
00:20:31and liner not finding touch but he's gained a lot of ground here
00:20:38and the clearance made by Bejumo del Castillo another one of the
00:20:44inexperienced Argentinian players having just his
00:20:47fourth international two against New Zealand
00:20:50and Argentina did award caps for their match a few weeks ago against Chile
00:20:55which they won by 41 points to six Camarón
00:21:00Diego Cuesta-Silva gets into the act good looking kick by Cuesta-Silva
00:21:05chasing through and it's been thrown away by Australia and Cuesta-Silva
00:21:10cleared it well Argentina having their first real foray now
00:21:14popped up for Santa Marina number seven good run here by Santa Marina 10 meters
00:21:21out from the Australian line Argentina have a real chance here
00:21:24if they can clear it quickly Camarón Abizu with a drop kick
00:21:29Argentina on the board
00:21:32Lissandro Abizu who dropped kicked two goals against Chile
00:21:37has given Argentina their first points in the 1991 World Cup
00:21:45Martin Robot had the responsibility of catching the high ball failed to do so
00:21:49and it left Argentina going forward they won a couple of rucks they showed
00:21:53good hands ability to beat people um and they've
00:21:56got the three points on the board liner with the restart for Australia
00:22:01so that will be heartening for Argentina halfway through the first spell
00:22:06they've had to withstand a real onslaught from Australia
00:22:10who have played most impressively in that first quarter of the game
00:22:14but Argentina have proved that if they get themselves into an attacking
00:22:17position they can score points up with a lovely beat by
00:22:20Pedro Scoleta but too many players of the line out
00:22:24for Argentina the technicalities so it's only a free kick Australia take it
00:22:28quickly and away they go again
00:22:32Marjone's waiting for the second phase ball pops out nicely for him liner off
00:22:36in Galway standing out there lovely tackle
00:22:38made by the captain Garreton now Horan up for Robac good solid defense in
00:22:43centerfield and now it's kick and chase Argentina
00:22:46hacking ahead downfield and into Australian territory they go
00:22:53Martin Robot's maybe the best of times at the moment he's got very much a
00:22:56hospital pass here from Tim Horan you've got man and ball ball went to
00:23:00ground and Argentina quite rightly hacked on
00:23:02and they're now beginning to force a bit of pressure that that that drop goal for
00:23:06Argentina would have also been a reminder to Australia
00:23:09that there's not going to be an easy path for them
00:23:13so Australia have had three quarters of the possession in this game
00:23:18Australia using Troy Coker at number two in the line out and Rod McCall in the
00:23:21middle he jumped at two in the test matches
00:23:24against the All Blacks but of course John Eales
00:23:27has gone back to number eight in this game so the Australian
00:23:30lineouts have moved around a little now Del Castillo looking for
00:23:34Cuesta-Silva who's looked quite dangerous on the ball but it's partially
00:23:36charged by Little and Rob Edgerton back for Little and a
00:23:41thumping tackle made by Hernan Garcia-Simón
00:23:44which saves the day for Argentina they got themselves into trouble once again
00:23:50and had to extract themselves with some very solid tackling the charge was made
00:23:53by Jason Little number 13 and it was nicely snapped up by Rob
00:23:57Edgerton Little stayed with him but then a
00:24:01crashing tackle there by number 12 Hernan Garcia-Simón
00:24:04and that snuffed out that
00:24:10the lovely Coker and McCall right to the front and Eales first three
00:24:17so a free kick this time goes to Argentina
00:24:21and Australia this time infringing so referee Bishop from New Zealand
00:24:25is policing the lineouts the man who has scored the points for
00:24:31Argentina is Sandra Abizu but the pressure remains on Argentina
00:24:37Australia have had most of the possession they've certainly had a huge
00:24:40territorial advantage Martin Teran on the right wing side has
00:24:44been seen only so far in a defensive role
00:24:51so
00:24:57all loose referee playing advantage here Argentina
00:25:02and they do get some advantage as there's a nice clearing kick from
00:25:06he's just 20 years of age the Belgrano club in Buenos Aires
00:25:10Lisandro Abizu
00:25:13so the game's starting to settle down into a bit of a pattern now there was a
00:25:22real harem scarum start by Australia but there
00:25:26could be more points coming now as Argentina pushed in the line out
00:25:32and this will give Michael Liner yet another opportunity he's already
00:25:37kicked two penalty goals Liner to land yet another one 10 points to
00:25:42three and Dave Bishop the referee explaining
00:25:46to Pablo Guerreton that there's too much pushing going on
00:25:49in the lines
00:25:54Argentina have really created their own problems they had a wonderful chance to
00:25:57clear their lines from a long liner kick took far too long about it and
00:26:02therefore they've stayed in their own half and at the lineouts
00:26:05they're struggling to get the ball they're infringing and quite rightly
00:26:09they've got a penalty against them and i'm afraid with this sort of chat
00:26:13against you don't give penalties away in your own half
00:26:21Michael Liner from Brisbane
00:26:25known to his teammates as a naughty liner fantastic point scorer
00:26:40and this time he's astray so that's unusual
00:26:45Liner walks away to think about it he had an off day in the second test
00:26:49against the All Blacks just three or four weeks ago when he
00:26:52could land just one from seven and so far today it's two from four ten
00:26:58points to three Australia leading and a man in front well that should never
00:27:04happen at this level of rugby absolutely not it's absolutely critical
00:27:08that you stay behind your kicker and scrummage now into the field
00:27:12Australia can go either way and i'm sure we'll see the back row
00:27:15involved again Jones feeding quickly Eales looking to
00:27:18take it out good run from Eales Poydivan charging on
00:27:23the hard man of the Australian loose forward trio Simon Poydivan
00:27:27but generally speaking Argentina's defense has been pretty good
00:27:30Australia have scored just the one try so far but
00:27:34in that try there was some weak tackling but since then the Argentinians have
00:27:38have worked on their tackling and Australia haven't been able to get
00:27:42through
00:27:46again Eales to take it out of the back Australia using that move-along away
00:27:49goes Far Jones Campisi was there up and
00:27:52Galway but it's been taken away by Jose Santamarina number seven
00:27:56and Argentina have it back to Arbizu and it nicely cleared
00:28:02so it's all about ball retention really and Australia coughed it up that time
00:28:06and Argentina have cleared
00:28:12Argentina have defended well since the Campisi scored the try
00:28:16and that they're holding on for grim death at the moment if they can hold on
00:28:19a bit more and just somehow win some more ball
00:28:22and spend some time in the Australian half they can put some points on the
00:28:24board
00:28:28referees talking to the to the Argentinian captain
00:28:34meantime somebody threw the ball in rather too quickly
00:28:41Dave Bishop asking Pablo Guerrejon for his team to keep the gap in the line out
00:28:50Phil Stearns with the throw
00:28:55Argentina have one here referee was playing advantage though
00:29:04Argentina rely very much on German Giannis
00:29:08number five for their line out position
00:29:13but the sort of country Jamie that's relied a lot on the set pieces
00:29:17in the last few years fairly strong in the scrums
00:29:24and they are setting up a rolling mall
00:29:2915 meters out from their own 22 in Australia getting in low
00:29:32packing in hard but Argentina get the put into the scrum
00:29:37so they have concentrated a lot on their scrummaging and on their line outs and
00:29:40their scrum certainly is an area that is very strong absolutely they should be
00:29:44able to get their own quality ball from the scrum
00:29:46and it's important they don't have too many scrums down here and they can get
00:29:49some attacking scrums because as we say Mendes and Cash are
00:29:52very strong
00:29:55that's another example of the scrum now Australia is not an easy scrum to shove
00:29:59back but look at that good strong solid scrum and Arbizu has
00:30:02plenty of time to get his kick away downfield
00:30:06and Robak misjudged it and it's back to Campisi
00:30:11and his kick is not too flash either coming forward to meet it Diego Cash
00:30:15and it goes off the boot of Petros Spoleda
00:30:24Marty Robak is certainly struggling in this half he's missed two high balls he
00:30:28had plenty of time to get that ball these balls do move a lot in the air
00:30:31sounds very strange it sounds like a cricket ball but they move a lot in the
00:30:35air and you've got to be very careful with them
00:30:38German Janis magnificent line out forward Far Jones a bit of a rough pass
00:30:43across to Horan but Horan has room to move standing nicely in the
00:30:48tackle look hasn't gone to grounders yet Argentina had trouble getting him onto
00:30:51the ground and Australia get the troops around him
00:30:54now Lina feeds it up to Robak hit in a good tackle
00:30:57the kick ahead is made by Jason Little Del Castillo didn't read that too well
00:31:02either came off his boot and cleverly
00:31:07extracted himself from trouble Gizmo Del Castillo from Rosario
00:31:15and a nice clearing kick for touch so both fullbacks just having trouble
00:31:19reading the flight of the ball
00:31:23the kick ahead was made by Jason Little and if anything Del Castillo was done by
00:31:27the bounce picked it up or didn't pick it up in
00:31:30fact it hit it against his leg and then with some nice sidestepping got
00:31:33out of trouble now back live Australia having a go here Tim Horan hard man to
00:31:37put down Tim Horan and here's the second try coming up
00:31:40and it's scored by the brilliant second five eight Tim Horan
00:31:48explosive pace from Horan and Australia out now to a handy
00:31:53advantage 14 points to three
00:31:58he really is a great find for Australia lovely little pop over the top by Lina
00:32:04and Horan got through a feeble tackle by Camadon
00:32:08and then stretched the legs and Diego Cuesta-Silva who's not slow
00:32:12himself couldn't pull him in and Tim Horan has
00:32:15try number two for Australia here we go we can see the original lineup
00:32:19which presumably goes right over the back
00:32:21goes long Far Jones takes it short and then Lina and Horan do the rest
00:32:26and it's a it's a killing blow that crucial blow for Australia
00:32:29they've now got a good 10 point advantage 12 point advantage
00:32:33and Australia should probably go now from strength to strength
00:32:38Tim Horan scores his fifth try in test matches and just his
00:32:4212th international
00:32:46he really is a complete footballer a brilliant defender
00:32:49and a punishing runner with the ball
00:33:06no problems there for Michael Lina so Lina has
00:33:10kicked eight points so far in the game and Australia with tries by Cambesian
00:33:16lead by 16 points to three as we see once again the pace
00:33:20and the power of Tim Horan and there was no hope of Argentina stopping that
00:33:25irrepressible charge and Horan scores Australia's second try
00:33:2916 points to three and about eight minutes out from half
00:33:32time
00:33:36so
00:33:40I hope you're enjoying the coverage from Straddy Park in Fenethly
00:33:45Australia making a fine start to the match little kick through by Arbizu
00:33:49now here's an opportunity for Argentina Martin Tehran
00:33:56and yes the try awarded
00:33:59what a great reply by Argentina a nice little kick through by Arbizu
00:34:04and the little bloke from Tucuman with all the pace on the right wing side
00:34:08snapped it up and to the great delight of the Argentinian supporters
00:34:13has scored Argentina's first try at the tournament
00:34:17and it all came from the kickoff the ball bounced loose
00:34:20and Arbizu snapped it up and put this lovely little cross kick
00:34:24and Tehran who can really scamper snapped it up
00:34:27and he got there touch judge Keith Lawrence said yes it was down it was in
00:34:32Dave Bishop the referee took the call and Arbizu got the try at least
00:34:36Tehran got the try yes it's very touch and go he did
00:34:40totally want to gather it in and Keith Lawrence as you say the touch judge made
00:34:43the decision for the referee I'm not sure he did ground it
00:34:45I'm not sure that's with the full force that it should be
00:34:48um but Keith Lawrence certainly said to Bishop David Bishop the referee
00:34:52it's okay and he awarded it I presume that David Bishop
00:34:55was actually blinded by the move Joe Castillo from a long way out
00:35:02and he can't convert the try scored by Martin Tehran
00:35:06and so 16 points to seven has been plenty of scoring in the first half
00:35:1534 minutes gone so liner with the dropout
00:35:25and the familiar cry of the Argentinian supporters ole ole ole ole
00:35:30as the kick goes from Far Jones
00:35:35a little bit of indecision and will this kick find touch nobody can find touch it
00:35:40would seem now Roebuck on his own 10 meter line what can he do
00:35:43not trying to find touch kick and chase this time
00:35:47taken by Santa Marina and Australia were outside the 10 meter
00:35:54circle or inside of in fact and so
00:35:58the option was for the kick where the ball landed or the scrum where
00:36:03Roebuck kicked it from and so Argentina have a chance to
00:36:09for one of the few times really in the half go into Australian territory 16
00:36:13points to seven
00:36:17off the back Carreras Camadon Abizu and that's a dangerous tackle made by
00:36:23Willy off in Galway it was a desperate tackle Argentina
00:36:27made a good move on the blind side there was some nice little underpassing there
00:36:37Pablo Garreton asking his goal kicker let's have a look at this tackle Jamie
00:36:41yes it's definitely high he's gone at the neck which is not permissible
00:36:47and David which is quite right to give the penalty as is the captain of
00:36:50Argentina going for a kicker goal because if he's
00:36:53got this one over it's 16 10 they're in that six point gap
00:36:56and it'll be a great boost for them towards the end of the first half
00:36:59because really I don't think territorially
00:37:02Argentina have been in the game um but now they've got a chance to be
00:37:05six points behind coming up to half time
00:37:10so Del Castillo quite a long way out here
00:37:17he's not going to get the distance in fact it's a way to the right anyway
00:37:21Argentina have a bit of a problem with goal kicking
00:37:25since the great Hugo Porto retired they haven't really had an established goal
00:37:29kicker apart from Ernan Bidu who has been
00:37:35injured for most of the season Del Castillo runs away again
00:37:39pumps a nice little kick down field far Jones gets across
00:37:42and Robak puts it onto his left boot
00:37:47and that's a prodigious kick from Marty Robak
00:37:50and he didn't really seem to give that a big whack but it's gone all the way
00:37:53down into the end goal area and Argentina take it back to their 22
00:38:00Marty Robak in just his fifth international he's burst onto the
00:38:04international scene this season after having been around the
00:38:07Australian first class season for a number of years
00:38:12didn't play at all last year 1990 he was injured
00:38:16but he's been playing in Sydney and New South Wales representative sides for
00:38:21quite some time now these who drops out
00:38:26grabbed in nicely by Mendes
00:38:30Argentina proving pretty competitive since that
00:38:33first 20 minutes or so good clearing kick by Diego Cuesta Silva
00:38:39now this really is an experienced player at 28 years of age
00:38:43a doctor specializing in cardiology and a man who has been on any number of
00:38:49overseas tours in fact he's been to New Zealand five times
00:38:53Australia calling the shortened line out popped up by
00:38:56liner another crunching run by Offen Garway
00:39:01Troy Coker Australian forwards all very good with the ball in hand now
00:39:05Far Jones puts a little kick away downfield Cuesta Silva let it bounce
00:39:09and chased by Campisi it's going to be what a 22 drop out
00:39:16five minutes run took it back
00:39:21always dangerous to let the old footy ball bounce Jeremy
00:39:24yeah good good positional kick and again good chasing Campisi he's always been a
00:39:28good chaser and you'll see his feet are just in the
00:39:30field of play and therefore when he had the ball
00:39:33five minutes gone
00:39:37taken off the back by Eels looking again for Offen Garway nicely snapped up by
00:39:41number four Troy Coker crunching on some punishing running here by Australia
00:39:52it'll be a scrum referee Dave Bishop is not happy about the number of players
00:39:55diving in over the top in fact he pointed to one from each side
00:39:59there I think Gareth Tom was lucky not to
00:40:02penalize went straight over the top of Troy Coker
00:40:06Australia has scored two tries in the game so far Campisi and Horan
00:40:10they lead by 16 points to seven they've tried to work a lot of moves from the
00:40:14base of the scrum
00:40:17and getting very close to the line once again
00:40:21ball held up by Australia Far Jones having a go but the whistle's gone
00:40:27there was a forward pass there the last pass
00:40:30to Nick Far Jones was forward and that saved us
00:40:34at least saved Argentina from conceding yet another try so it's a defensive
00:40:37scrum now Gonzalo Camadon
00:40:50another good scrum by Argentina held in the back by Carreras this is impressive
00:40:54scrummaging
00:40:56and I think this would come as a surprise to the Australians who pride
00:41:00themselves on the scrummaging ability but unfortunately for Argentina they
00:41:04made a mistake and knocked the ball on
00:41:18not too far away from half time here Australia will be keen to score just
00:41:23on the break
00:41:30there it is now Far Jones away to Campisi runs himself into trouble now
00:41:34off and Garway slips it back to Eales no real support
00:41:38there for John Eales the Argentinians swarming in on John
00:41:42Eales and that's good solid defense once again
00:41:46by the boomers
00:41:49but Australia really have concentrated really on using that back row they
00:41:52haven't spun up wide much no they haven't at all and I think
00:41:54they're struggling the scrums they're getting wheeled a bit here
00:41:56you'll see an Australian boot flying out here and being lifted
00:42:03Argentina have it Camadon back to Abizu and he rather hooked that one into
00:42:07touch
00:42:11it's also with Argentina now holding their own in the scrums the Australian
00:42:14back row would not just fly off every time it's not their ball
00:42:17and they'll have to stay down now and give them a bit more respect
00:42:22a minute remaining in the first half 16 points to seven Australia leading
00:42:29beautifully taken in there by Eales for Australia
00:42:38still controlled by the Australian force now it's on the ground for Far Jones the
00:42:41backs are going to get a run this time popped up for Horan the defense is solid
00:42:46in midfield this time Tim Horan running into some solid
00:42:49defending
00:42:52and that is halftime just as the ball emerges
00:42:57referee Dave Bishop blows the whistle for halftime
00:43:01so there is the halftime score Australia leading by
00:43:0416 points to seven after they ran out to a very
00:43:08early lead of 10 points to nil but Argentina to their credit have come
00:43:12right back into it in the last 20 minutes of the half
00:43:16and so the second half underway between Argentina and Australia 16 points to
00:43:20seven and at the break Argentina forced to make one change
00:43:26when they lost their hooker Ricardo Laporte
00:43:30as he was assisted from the field and Mariano Bosch
00:43:34has come into the hooking position for his first test match
00:43:39so now we go to the first line out of the second half
00:43:42and Bosch gets to throw and immediately Argentina win it but it wasn't thrown
00:43:46straight Pedro Spallater number four is the man
00:43:50who got up very high there
00:43:55so I'm sure that Nick Far Jones would have given the Australians
00:43:59a fair sort of rev up at halftime they allowed Argentina back into the match in
00:44:04the final 20 minutes of that first spell
00:44:09Far Jones in after this one clears it for Lina
00:44:12Lina with the early up and under going back after it is a Questa Silva
00:44:17Australia getting their forwards there fairly quickly Questa Silva holds it up
00:44:2110 meters out from the 22 and Australia will get the loose head
00:44:25into the scrum
00:44:29well Argentina have a reputation Jamie of being a side that don't travel well
00:44:32they play well in Argentina but as they showed over here last year
00:44:35they don't travel terribly well absolutely not and playing Argentina and
00:44:38Buenos Aires is a vastly different proposition
00:44:41than them on tour as you rightly say
00:44:44Australia have an early attacking opportunity again they're using their
00:44:47loose forwards it was Simon Poyderman who charged
00:44:49through up towards the 22 nicely put up to Phil Kearns and the big
00:44:53hooker sprinting towards the line and that's a great try scored by Phil
00:44:58Kearns
00:45:01big powerful man that he is and the Australian forward pack
00:45:05really got into gear there the initial crust made by Poyderman
00:45:09and it was finished off by Phil Kearns
00:45:17this was lovely work by Australia here is Kearns running onto it
00:45:20he thumps out of the tackle of Camardon he's still got a lot of work to do
00:45:25players coming across but he's a big powerful hooker this
00:45:28fellow and Phil Kearns in his 15th test match
00:45:32gets his sixth test try
00:45:39yes interesting again Australia are persevering with the back row moves
00:45:43good presentation of the ball to Nick Byer-Jones he obviously got a call from
00:45:46Kearns I would imagine and and off he went but it's interesting
00:45:49to see if John Eale's still there he's getting around the field an awful lot
00:45:51and he certainly is an impressive figure
00:45:56Phil Kearns has only been on the test scene for two years made his debut
00:45:59against the All Blacks in 1989 along with Tony Daly
00:46:21Liner has not converted the try scored by Kearns
00:46:24and so it hasn't been a vintage kicking performance from Michael Liner
00:46:28in the first half he landed two penalties in a conversion
00:46:34but Australia now have scored three tries in the game 20 points to seven the
00:46:38two big second rowers Troy Coker and Rod McCaw
00:46:44Campisi is going to try and open it up
00:46:50well he's got a mind of his own we all know that David Campisi and he can see
00:46:53the funny side of it too what a delightful character
00:46:58and a man who doesn't worry too much about what a his teammates think and be
00:47:03what the crowd thinks
00:47:10Australia on their own 22 powerful mauling by Argentina and it was
00:47:16Carreras number eight who came rampaging away from that maul
00:47:21and it was knocked on by Australia so here is Argentina back on the attack
00:47:27big powerful runners these fellows and it was knocked down by
00:47:30Liner
00:47:34Garraton can't hold on to it this time referee says play on
00:47:38Del Castillo ball loose being claimed by Jason Little
00:47:45number 13
00:47:50rather a skittery period of play there neither side really able to retain
00:47:54possession now and then the referee fair enough was
00:47:57trying to play advantage and keep the game flowing
00:48:00but obviously with the collapse ball there he had to he had to blow it up and
00:48:03Australia's put in again but it's just Australia can keep
00:48:08possession very well in those close quarters and twice we saw their
00:48:11Argentina struggling knocking it on fumbling it
00:48:14and therefore not getting any momentum going forward and
00:48:17unfortunately they're trying to play Australia's game the moment and I think
00:48:19they may be better off changing the plan of the game I don't
00:48:22think there's any point really going around the fringes
00:48:25and let's have a look at the centers all the wingers out wide
00:48:30they're big powerful fellows the Argentinians very strong in the upper
00:48:34body and when they do get the ball in hand
00:48:37at the close in the close quarter stuff they can
00:48:40punch big holes and as we've seen they can certainly scrummage
00:48:45Jim and Janice who was one of the stars of the Argentinian
00:48:49effort against the All Blacks and Buenos Aires a few months back
00:48:54taken out of the back by Eales once again a little kick through by Far Jones
00:48:59and coming through to meet it as Del Castillo but the Australians got through
00:49:02very quickly indeed number seven Willy Offengarway was there
00:49:05quickly so was John Eales number eight into the arms of Rod McCall Australia
00:49:08could make something of this that's the 22 meter line Australia has
00:49:12the whole eight forwards there good impressive play by the the gold
00:49:17eight once more holding it up Argentina having
00:49:21trouble stemming the flow
00:49:30ball still held up
00:49:35and it's going to be an Australian put into the scrum
00:49:42good pressure by the Australians on that high kick left the Argentinians with
00:49:45very little option this is now a chance for Far Jones I
00:49:48believe with a wide position on the left-hand side and a big
00:49:52open side to run the ball out let's have Australia
00:49:57do use their back line this time Far Jones frees it up here it is
00:50:02Jason Little looking for his loose forwards Eales is getting around the
00:50:05park extremely well so is Poitavan he's there too
00:50:09Poitavan got turned though on the Argentinian side
00:50:12and he didn't release the ball that was good work by the Argentinian
00:50:18players they swung Simon Poitavan and he fell the wrong way and
00:50:24he couldn't release it or he probably could have but he would have conceded
00:50:26possession let's have a look at this yes I mean
00:50:28physical pressure at number five the straight round goes
00:50:30Poitavan now that's where he has to release it and then he tried to roll his
00:50:34body back over to provide the ball for his forwards
00:50:37and that's what the penalty was for some indication of the strength of the
00:50:41Argentinian players Roebuck has it releasing up to Edgerton Edgerton has
00:50:46off and Galway the big powerful side row forward Phil Kearns has already
00:50:50scored a try in the second half Australia away again Far Jones up to
00:50:53liner hit Horan swarming defense across field
00:50:57Poitavan's there again Australia can be very happy the way their
00:51:01loose forwards have played this afternoon so far they've all been
00:51:04close to the ball
00:51:08and another scrum despite their size Australia they are
00:51:12mobile Troy Coco's been a lot of number eight
00:51:15he's playing locked today gets around the field well after the two big props
00:51:18um and it's been an impressive part of their game today although they haven't
00:51:22really stretched it terribly wide so far Phil Kearns is the
00:51:26injured man we've already seen Argentina's number one hooker Ricardo
00:51:30Laporte leave the field
00:51:33Phil Kearns looks to be in real trouble here Greg
00:51:37Craig the Australian physio is with him
00:51:45it'll be interesting here if the Kearns does decide to go off
00:51:48with the scrum having been called for and the hooker off the field what in
00:51:52fact happens because there are different rules in different countries related to
00:51:55this but I admit it's like international level
00:51:57um but it'll be interesting what happens now they'll have to get the doctor's
00:52:01clearance first I believe and let the replacement come on before
00:52:04they have to have the scum
00:52:10well Dave Bishop has said that he wants a quick clearance here because he
00:52:13doesn't want to put anybody else in the front row
00:52:15so David Nusifora will be the replacement player
00:52:20this will be his test debut
00:52:24but that's sensible for Dave Bishop he's not keen on putting anyone else in there
00:52:29and so he is waiting for Nusifora
00:52:34so both hookers have left the field yeah it's not right it's a good decision by
00:52:37Bishop that quite quite right absolutely to hold hold things up
00:52:47it's tough for a new man coming on the field he'd normally likes a bit of time
00:52:50to settle down uh unfortunately now he's got a scum
00:52:53straight away yes he's right into it so Nusifora is in there Bosch is in there
00:52:57for Argentina both hookers have been replaced Australia work a move here
00:53:00off in Garway looks for Poydivan the loose forwards working well together
00:53:03again you can see the goalpost there just 10
00:53:05meters out and Australia again threatening the
00:53:09Argentinian line and it'll be once again Australia's
00:53:13loose head into the scrum
00:53:2120 points to seven Australia lead
00:53:28Eales snaps it out Far Jones under pressure once again the Argentinian
00:53:32scrum pushing Australia and it caused them to make mistakes they
00:53:36were going backwards and Eales and Far Jones didn't really find
00:53:40each other there and Argentina have the scrum it's the
00:53:44first mistake they've really made in terms of back row moves and perhaps
00:53:47now Nick Far Jones might decide to move it wide
00:53:49um I thought Poydivan came from an upside position there to dive on the ball but
00:53:52he got away with it
00:53:56Camardon back to Arpizu left it fairly late to get the kick away
00:54:00but gave it a reasonable nudge downfield but not finding touch
00:54:05Roebuck having a run now
00:54:09gave it across to Jason Little Little's a strong runner
00:54:12he got support from Far Jones Eales puts his boot to the ball
00:54:16and let's have a look bounced it out did he no
00:54:21well Australia looked a little bit indecisive there there were players
00:54:24running but they were isolated absolutely and Roebuck wasn't quite sure
00:54:28that he'd kick it up and under look for his wings
00:54:30look for his centers and Eales finally decided to make a decision for him and
00:54:34put it out
00:54:40Mariano Bosch Argentina's replacement hooker throws
00:54:45taken down by Garraton up to Diego Cash 10 meter line Australia looming up now
00:54:51working the blind side Herreras Cuesta Silva kick and chase from Diego
00:54:55Cuesta Silva Roebuck gets back and he took it back too
00:54:59this will be a five meter scrum
00:55:02good work by Diego Cuesta Silva who nowadays plays on the wing for
00:55:06Argentina now this will be interesting this is a five meter scrum
00:55:09let's see whether Argentina try and push the Australian scrum over the line
00:55:15here they go Australia's collapsed it although it screwed through 90 degrees
00:55:25this will be a real test of strength I think I think also Australia probably
00:55:28purposely willed that scrum in fear of being pushed back and the
00:55:32referee's going to spot that because it's illegal to
00:55:35actually pull a scrum round
00:55:39David Nusifora in the middle of the front row replacing Phil Kearns
00:55:47Argentina scrum starts to screw again
00:55:52referee playing advantage here Australia have screwed the scrum
00:55:55deliberately and the penalty to Argentina
00:56:00so
00:56:08Garraton has the ball what's he going to do
00:56:20Argentina running it up
00:56:24oh and the penalty was against Federico
00:56:30Mendez who was obstructing he was ahead of a ball
00:56:35carrier and Dave Bishop immediately has penalized
00:56:38Argentina
00:56:41yes they do in fact and probably Diego Cash number three was also guilty of the
00:56:44same offense absolutely getting right in front so the
00:56:47Australians couldn't tackle the ball carrier
00:56:48so David Bishop was absolutely right um I think actually Argentina should
00:56:53probably take the key goal and go back to 2010 um but it's good to see
00:56:57them putting pressure on and playing Australia's half
00:57:02Diego Cash from the San Ysidro club in Buenos Aires
00:57:10so some relief for Australia as they clear their line
00:57:15but Australia have really found Argentina a tough nut to crack in this
00:57:20game at one stage it looked as though it was going to be a real runaway
00:57:23but Argentina have come back strongly indeed it's 20 points to seven
00:57:30lovely leap by Spoleto number four Argentina now starting to win a bit of
00:57:36line out ball at all and as well and they're dangerous in this situation
00:57:39with those strong upper bodies they have they can rip it away
00:57:45now Camarón to Abizu Laborde popped up nicely by Garcia Simon
00:57:53but the ball falling loose for Australia
00:57:59and the ball in fact was lost forward by Argentina
00:58:03who so far haven't really played a very expansive game
00:58:06mind you they haven't had a lot of ball indeed but they're beginning to win some
00:58:09line out for now which is encouraging for them
00:58:13by Jones to Leina, Leina decides to go for a bit of a run it wasn't a good
00:58:16decision he ran straight into Garraton but
00:58:18Horan was there to take it off Michael Leina 10 meters out from the 22 in
00:58:22Australian territory
00:58:29and it's too tight in there and it'll be once again a scrum for Australia
00:58:36well it certainly hasn't gone all Australia's way they must have felt with
00:58:40their start after about 15 minutes that it was going to be
00:58:44one of those days where everything went right but in fact 16 seven and a half
00:58:48time 20 points to seven now and one of their key men Phil Kearns off
00:58:52the field three by far Jones Del Castillo having
00:58:55trouble with the rolling ball tries to get away all trouble here
00:59:00Australia hack at a cross field Garcia Simon with the ball
00:59:05now Beezle tries to clear but the whistle has gone
00:59:11and now an offside decision here
00:59:20Gergemo Del Castillo had trouble with the bouncing ball and lost it in a good
00:59:24tackle from Roebuck but it was offside play against
00:59:30Jason Little who made the tackle coming from an offside position
00:59:33and Argentina have cleared now into inside Australian territory
00:59:46game one in pool three of the 1991 Rugby World Cup
00:59:50Australia against Argentina Australia leading by 20 points to seven
00:59:56David Nusopora lovely leap by Eels Far Jones clears
01:00:00liner liner looking for a runner and obstruction against Australia
01:00:07Tim Horan called out for instruction well they look most indecisive once
01:00:11again Jamie Salmon out in the back line it did it they've left it so late to try
01:00:15and do a wide move and for some reason they've done a wide
01:00:18move quite deep with their own half or in the middle of their own half which
01:00:22is hardly confidence for their backs and I'm surprised
01:00:25they left it so late to try something out wide and
01:00:27that's twice down Michael Lyon and the previous time he had a go got caught
01:00:30and here again he doesn't really know who he's going to give it to he's
01:00:33running straight across the field as well which won't be helping the runners
01:00:36either side of him and that's what the penalty was for
01:00:39man in front of him therefore preventing the tackler coming in
01:00:44number 12 Tim Horan then called out chance here for Del Castillo
01:00:57looks a good kick it is a good kick
01:01:01Del Castillo lands his first goal of the day
01:01:06and Australia's lead reduced to 10 points now
01:01:09and they lead by 20 points to 10. It could be a fascinating final quarter
01:01:15of the match and because Argentina have held on and
01:01:18held on under severe pressure and now they've got a great chance of
01:01:23running Australia very close indeed and Australia are going to have to pull
01:01:26their finger out to make sure they're not going to have a
01:01:29scary match
01:01:34a lot of people have been predicting upsets at this rugby world cup
01:01:38I don't think anyone would ever have predicted Argentina over Australia and
01:01:42there's still a long way to go in this game
01:01:44but Argentina have given a marvelous account of themselves so far
01:01:48ball bounces loose Australia free it up quickly once again
01:01:53little lost it forward once again solid tackling by the Pumas
01:01:58and the ball bouncing loose bit of a scuffle on the ground here
01:02:03Michael Lino not happy about something
01:02:07crashing with Mario Carreras a rough tough number eight
01:02:11he's a rugged individual there he is leading in the back of the scrum the
01:02:15long black hair
01:02:18Camarón this time the scrum screws held in the back by Carreras
01:02:23but the scrum in fact has screwed too far for the liking of referee Bishop
01:02:29it was another unenforced error on Australia's part that's created this
01:02:33and it's unlike them to have so many handling problems
01:02:39well Argentina have certainly picked up
01:02:43in the territorial area but Argentina at least Australia have had twice as much
01:02:48ball as Australia
01:02:53i'm not sure i got that right Australia have had twice as much ball as
01:02:57Argentina absolutely right that's right
01:03:02Australia now just reverting to winning the scrums all the time they're just
01:03:05done chilling the top they're going again Camarón frees it up for Abisu
01:03:10but still giving that a very good nudge indeed
01:03:15this is the new Hugo Porter if you like at just 20 years of age
01:03:23and i must confess that when the All Blacks two at Argentina he looked a
01:03:26little bit slow and perhaps has lost a bit of weight
01:03:30since then and has looked a lot better today so 20
01:03:32minutes remaining in the game
01:03:36and it's 20 points to 10
01:03:40Australia have called a short line out this time that's interesting
01:03:43trying to vary it just a little popped up for Open Garway he gave it up to
01:03:47Poydivan the pass looked just a little forward Poydivan I thought was slightly
01:03:50ahead but anyway down goes Far Jones in there is the ninth
01:03:53forward looks like Simon Poydivan's going to
01:03:56have to take up station as the halfback as Far Jones
01:03:59is well and truly tied up but he's managed to get back into position now
01:04:02this is good driving play by Australia they have to
01:04:06free it they do Far Jones across for Leina looks a bit
01:04:09indecisive again the ball goes loose here's Cuesta Silva chance for
01:04:14Argentina Abisu
01:04:19that's the 22 meter line in Australian territory Argentina retain possession
01:04:25and Leina takes it away
01:04:29whistle has gone
01:04:34accidental offside is the call against Australia
01:04:37but here again is Michael Leina throwing up an awful pass
01:04:42Michael Leina the last few times he's tried to run it has given away a couple
01:04:46of penalties or creates this sort of situation
01:04:48and given the ball to opposition and Argentina taking full advantage of it
01:04:53Argentina with a chance Cuesta Silva's in the action again
01:04:57good solid tackle made on him Abisu kick and chase
01:05:00but he's rather pushed it across the field that's not a bad kick at all
01:05:04Rob Edgerton got him took it well he's the former fullback for Australia well
01:05:07not for Australia but a former fullback for New South Wales
01:05:11and he took it well under pressure
01:05:15but Argentina were making the progress forward and the crowd at Straddy Park
01:05:19starting to get a little bit excited as Argentina start to force the pace in
01:05:23the game
01:05:26with about 18 minutes remaining
01:05:31scrum fed by Camarón across for Laborde Camarón
01:05:36oh Teran what a brilliant try absolutely outstanding
01:05:51that was a brilliant move by Argentina and Martin Teran gets his second try
01:05:58and Australia in a bit of trouble have a look at this move
01:06:02it was obviously well rehearsed it was beautifully conducted
01:06:06and Teran inside he came and the little fellow can really go
01:06:11and the Argentinians celebrate as they get up to 20 points to 14
01:06:15yes it's very much like the all-black move yesterday but what's the Australian
01:06:18back row they all go wide Eales goes wide Offringawe goes wide
01:06:22Edgerton stays out nobody stays in the man coming in
01:06:26there was four Australians covering the touchline but nobody saw the winger
01:06:30coming back in and Teran took it very well indeed and
01:06:33there's going to be a great game on now especially if this conversion goes over
01:06:39and it does
01:06:4520 points to 16 and all of a sudden Australia find themselves in real
01:06:52strife here still about 16 minutes to go in the game
01:06:57two tries today for Martin Teran playing just his fourth international
01:07:04lovely work try by Argentina again from back row move but absolutely super try
01:07:10and it's going to be very interesting now
01:07:15well Argentina really have got the tails up beautifully taken in there by
01:07:18Spallater Camardon down the touchline he goes Roebuck in
01:07:23trouble again
01:07:26Teran holds on Edgerton runs into his own man accidentally offside
01:07:31nothing going right for Australia Edgerton pumping into Nick Farr-Jones
01:07:36accidentally offside
01:07:41and it's let's have a look so Nick Farr-Jones will be saying some
01:07:45harsh words to the Australians
01:07:49so
01:08:04he got him to try and make the tackle on
01:08:08Marty Roebuck and somehow received an injury there
01:08:14he's back in the action and running pretty freely too as Roebuck goes back
01:08:17lines up underneath this one does well Roebuck
01:08:20couldn't afford to put that one down
01:08:28mixed day for Marty Roebuck
01:08:33brought them back from man in front I think with Teran in front of
01:08:37the kicker
01:08:40Camardon
01:08:43Farr-Jones once again the Australian scrum going backwards look at the
01:08:46pressure coming from Argentina Eales releasing up to Farr-Jones good
01:08:49tackle by Carreras but Eales has had a good game
01:08:52and the loose forwards are there again that's one of the heartening features of
01:08:55the match for Australia so far lineup pumps the
01:08:58kick away downfield Del Castillo waiting good challenge by
01:09:03Jason Little Camardon grabs it for Argentina but
01:09:06Australia getting there in numbers this is a good solid reply by Australia
01:09:13and it's fairly obvious that this crowd at
01:09:16Shreddy Park are very much behind the Argentinians they sense a bit of an upset
01:09:21but referee Dave Bishop was quite right there and giving the scrum to Australia
01:09:25they were making progress so now Australia have a good attacking
01:09:29opportunity whistle is gone
01:09:34the interesting one Australia doing look as though Michael Lytner
01:09:37starting out quite flat I would thought they may go for a drop goal just to
01:09:40stretch it to a seven point margin and get away from the danger zone
01:09:43of being within six points Farr-Jones away for Lytner Lytner pops it up
01:09:49Campisi again the brilliance of David Campisi
01:09:57two today for Campisi 24 points to 16
01:10:04and the world record holder extends his tally to 42
01:10:08test tries and did he hit the line here or not
01:10:14it was a lovely move again we've seen a couple of glorious tries in this game
01:10:18Lytner popped it up and Campo on the burst no one touched him
01:10:22under the bar he goes and Australia lead by 24 to 16
01:10:28there'll be an awful lot of relief with this try Lytner will be the most relieved
01:10:31man having got the first move right for some time
01:10:34but Campisi took it super and uh it's that's that's probably about pretty
01:10:37relaxed now to be out in front now only a few minutes
01:10:40to go but all credit to Argentina for coming back
01:10:46Lytner with the easy conversion making it 26 points to 16 so the 10 point
01:10:50margin is regained by Australia
01:10:55but we have seen some super tries in this game
01:10:59so Argentina trick back to halfway they should hold their heads high
01:11:07about 12 minutes remaining in this game
01:11:12Dave Bishop has just told Lisandro Arbizu
01:11:16you're playing well no doubt that was a comment about the team they are playing
01:11:22well too
01:11:30this is a very competitive group pool three
01:11:35Western Samoa and Wales the other two sides
01:11:39in the group Argentina I think would have been ranked number four
01:11:42before the tournament but I'm sure Western Samoa and Wales won't be able to
01:11:45take them lightly now Arbizu pumps another kick up
01:11:49this will come down near the 22 take it in by Simon Poitavan
01:11:52ball bouncing loose claimed by Garreton nicely done Camadon
01:11:56away to Laborde, Gil Castillo Laborde again
01:12:03ball is loose hacked away by or tried to hack it away Campisi
01:12:06Argentina back in control of it
01:12:10Mendes frees it up big charge by the captain Pablo Garreton now Carreras
01:12:17Arbizu with a drop kick
01:12:21two drop kicks today for Lisandro Arbizu
01:12:25it's 26 points to 19
01:12:33Argentina great credit to them for coming back and sticking their heads
01:12:37haven't gone down at all they've hung in all the time they're taking Australia on
01:12:40even at close quarter play they're staying on their feet the hands have
01:12:43improved and it's it's it's great to see and
01:12:47another Arbizu drop goal seven points behind with five six minutes
01:12:52to go perhaps they've got a chance still they may
01:12:54believe it which is the most important thing
01:12:57great exponents of the drop kick Argentinian players Hugo Porter
01:13:02in his long career now there was a little bit of obstruction there
01:13:05and I'm sure the referee has picked it up
01:13:10might have been Rod McCall
01:13:17so
01:13:21Dave Bishop picked up offenders from both sides there
01:13:26and he has decided to go for the scrum so 10 minutes to go in this game
01:13:30Australia not yet out of the woods 26 points to 19
01:13:36heels again off the back again a mistake by Australia
01:13:40and that's the key to it I'm sure that Bob Dwyer will be most disappointed with
01:13:44the mistakes that have been made Argentina away they go again Diego Cash
01:13:48up to Garrett on the captain over halfway they go setting it nicely again
01:13:52here comes the strong runners Carreras is a very strong runner
01:13:57up to Santa Marina Arbizu spreading it wide this time
01:14:03Del Castillo or lovely sidestep Laborde
01:14:09Cuesta Silva leaving Campisi for dead
01:14:1522 meter line Australian territory
01:14:21and the crowd at Straddy Park loving it absolutely terrific play by Argentina
01:14:26also you've got a compliment in Australia Ofra Ngawi
01:14:29the loose forward is one of the last men over there making a crucial tackle
01:14:33having there he goes in there and smother tackle so the ball can't be
01:14:37gone away David Campisi was done like a dinner by
01:14:41Diego Cuesta Silva
01:14:46this was a lovely body shift by Cuesta Silva he's something of a veteran these
01:14:50days now look at this Campo made a pretty
01:14:54feeble attempt to make the tackle and it was up to Willie Ofra Ngawi to
01:14:58save Australia from that situation
01:15:0326 points to 19
01:15:20Argentina really had a disastrous World Cup in New Zealand in 1987 they lost
01:15:26their first game to Fiji and never really recovered
01:15:30and liner has pushed Australia out of the danger zone
01:15:35but Australia will go away from this game with a lot to work on
01:15:40absolutely and they'll realize the last two games the group is going to be no
01:15:43walkover at all and what Argentina have done is they
01:15:46set the other little boys the tournament you can compete with the
01:15:49supposed favorites of the whole tournament or joint favorites of the
01:15:51whole tournament which is marvellous for the tournament as a whole
01:15:56Bar Jones across the line up now Horan Arvizo in to make the tackle
01:16:00a tackle well Argentina 10 meter line Australian territory
01:16:04up to liner again and Australia really trying to steady things down a little
01:16:08now Del Castillo inside his 22 and once again a prodigious punt down
01:16:13field
01:16:16Dejimo Del Castillo he's been around on the first class scene in Argentina for a
01:16:20long long time but has only come into the
01:16:23international side this year
01:16:43lobbed in by Nusa Forak charging in was Simon Poitavan the veteran
01:16:49Australian playing today in his 55th
01:16:52international but playing extremely well now Horan up
01:16:57to his club partner from South St. Brisbane
01:17:00Jason Little
01:17:0415 meters out from Argentina's 22
01:17:11and to ground they go and the moment that happens the referee applies to set
01:17:14the scrum
01:17:18well this is heartening from Argentina's point of view not only in
01:17:21this tournament Jamie but this is a very very young Argentinian
01:17:25side and given them another four years they could become a very formidable
01:17:29international team absolutely experience counts an awful lot
01:17:32and this today will obviously count an awful lot for them
01:17:34and I think also the fact they are they are without question playing against
01:17:37Australia's test side they've got their full 15 out and what
01:17:40they regard as their top side and Argentina have done wonders and as
01:17:44you rightly say they've got a you know the halfbacks of 20 and 21 or
01:17:48something in that order and they've done tremendously well in a pressure
01:17:51game which an opening World Cup game obviously is
01:17:55especially when you're ranked bottom of the group supposedly exactly
01:18:00Bar Jones once again the loose forwards going to work a move he'll find a
01:18:03shocking pass across but Campisi snapped it up
01:18:05Campisi away again is the support there it is from Little
01:18:09and the try at least from Tim Horan
01:18:15the Campisi magic has done it again Tim Horan gets his second try
01:18:21but it was all David Campisi he hasn't looked all that good on defense
01:18:25today but his attacking prowess has come to the fore this was a brilliant
01:18:30run and really it was a mistake by Australia it was some shocking work
01:18:34and shocking passing by the loose forwards but Campisi from broken play
01:18:38was able to get his way through three or four tackles and a nice little shuffle
01:18:42by Tim Horan and then he goes close to the post
01:18:45that will be the game for Australia they can't really lose it from here as
01:18:49Tim Horan gets his second to take it out to 30 points to 19
01:19:05John Eales the Australian number eight has had a very very good game
01:19:09but he has made two or three mistakes to face the scrum and the longer this
01:19:13tournament progresses those mistakes you're going to pay for
01:19:15them a lot more dearly than Australia had today and Campisi got
01:19:19him out of that one I think Australia will be a bit concerned about the makeup
01:19:22of Eales at number eight having played local all during the
01:19:26domestic season but having Coke in the middle they do
01:19:29mis-gathered an awful lot they're injured number eight
01:19:33Michael Liner converts the try scored by Tim Horan 32 points to 19
01:19:40I suppose on the positive side Jamie Australia as we look again at this
01:19:44brilliant try was a shocking pass you see straight across to Campisi now I'm
01:19:47not sure it was supposed to go there but Campisi with his brilliant
01:19:51acceleration his ability to sidestep flicked it up to Horan and Horan
01:19:56had a lot of work to do himself and that was a lovely try scored by Tim Horan
01:20:01but on the positive side Australia will probably argue that if you're going to
01:20:04play a bad game at the tournament game number
01:20:08one is the one to do it in absolutely right because you've still got
01:20:10two other chances in the group I think they'll be most disappointed
01:20:14with their back play today and Liner's indecisiveness
01:20:17in terms of his calls and execution of the moves and they haven't really spread
01:20:21the ball out wide and given Campisi wide room on the outside
01:20:26Roebuck has his kick charged but a garroton in fact charged across the line
01:20:30which you can't do
01:20:33so Roebuck gets a second shot at it
01:20:37just a few minutes remaining now 32 points to 19 this has been a very good
01:20:41game indeed some lovely try scored nicely taken in by Spallater good
01:20:45support from Jose Santamarina maybe a last chance for Argentina
01:20:49Abizu who's had a good game lovely little kick through by Abizu
01:20:54and has Argentina uncovered a new Hugo Porta
01:20:58I think he's got an awful lot of a lot of promise and I think we've come
01:21:02down if those two can stay together they're both earning 20 as you say and
01:21:06they could go a long way in the game
01:21:11Injury worries for both sides in this match
01:21:15Ricardo Laforte off the field replaced by number 17 there
01:21:19Mariano Bosch and David de Sappora to throw
01:21:22he replaced Phil Kearns who started the second half with a scintillating try
01:21:29beautiful jump by Janis Argentina charging up towards the line
01:21:38edging ever closer Dave Bishop positioning himself to have a look
01:21:44no try
01:21:50ball held up off the ground five meters from
01:21:55ball did not touch the ground says referee Dave Bishop
01:22:00Australia will be very concerned that that was their throw to the line out
01:22:03and they lost it so comprehensively chance perhaps for another pushover
01:22:09Argentina good in the close quarter play
01:22:16but they'll get another go at him here 32 points to 19 high scoring match
01:22:23Australia have scored five prize to two
01:22:29and Argentina here have a really good chance
01:22:32with their strong sprung but Australia grabbing the initiative
01:22:40it's going to be reset though
01:22:54held by Carreras
01:23:09well this is a real test with the Australians it is indeed and
01:23:13Eos and Ofangare are still beginning to hang off the strums and if
01:23:16Argentina just get one initial shove going forward
01:23:19but often they're more concerned about the blind side they could get a pushover
01:23:24this time a good strum hand in there I think
01:23:33referee a bit concerned about the way that front row went out
01:23:36he said that somebody could get hurt in there
01:23:40and in fact Mariano Bosch the hooker just feeling it a little
01:23:49bit so this is about the fifth scrum close to the Australian line Carreras
01:23:57holding Carreras picks it up Camardon is in
01:24:02there so also is little Martin Tehran they're all in there having a crack at
01:24:06it
01:24:09and Argentina get another put in
01:24:14well maybe it's time to bury it Sammy yeah maybe I
01:24:17can't see exactly how much they've got in the blind so they're about 15 meters
01:24:20just under 50 meters of the blind side so they probably won't go there I think
01:24:23they may bring a centre down the middle but
01:24:26they're about a yard two yards away they may still hang on to a pushover
01:24:32free kick against Australia they didn't engage in the strum
01:24:36so what will Argentina do tapped it quickly Camardon Abizu
01:24:40Garraton right in centre field snapped up though by Little Eos up to Lino
01:24:46Australia running this one out Roebuck good support from Horan
01:24:52Poitavon is there with Horan Australia moving up towards their own 22 now
01:24:56and it'll be Australia's ball to the scrum in fact it won't that's as the end
01:25:00of the game
01:25:03handshakes all round as the crowd descends on the players
01:25:09a very good game of rugby in pool three Australia finished up winning the match
01:25:14by 32 points to 19 after leading at halftime by 20 points
01:25:19to seven Australia scored five tries in the game
01:25:22two to Campisi two to Horan and one to Phil Kearns who left the field
01:25:26injured just after halftime and the rest of the points came from the
01:25:29boot of Michael Liner and Argentina scored two tries both by
01:25:33the right wing three-quarter Martin Tiran Abizu drop kicked a couple of goals
01:25:38and Del Castillo kicked a penalty and a conversion
01:25:4116 to 7 at halftime 32 to 19 at full time
01:25:45and Jamie Salmon that really was an excellent game of rugby
01:25:48it certainly was and it's really got the tournament off the ground now
01:25:51yesterday's game the opening match wasn't a great spectacle
01:25:55this game would have been enjoyed by people whether Argentinian
01:25:58Welsh English New Zealand didn't matter you'd have to enjoy that game of rugby
01:26:01there were super tries as you say Argentina being the underdogs
01:26:06still stuck to it the crowd got behind them and that's what it's all about
01:26:09and Argentina will have done a lot for the smaller nations and other teams like
01:26:13Italy perhaps Western Samoa to a certain degree
01:26:16but Lord know they can compete now against the big boys
01:26:19and something like Australia who are tipped as one of the favorites for
01:26:22tournament
