00:00President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro sent a message to the workers of the Simón Bolívar
00:17hydroelectric power plant for rapid response after sabotage last Friday.
00:23The Retirement Re-Foundation party known as Partido Libre ratified its absolute support
00:27to President Xiomara Castro and rejected the interference of the United States.
00:35And in Israel, the main trade union center Histatrut has called for a general strike
00:39to demand an agreement for the release of the hostages at the protests against the government
00:43of Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:53Hello welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:59We begin with the news.
01:00The President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro sent a message to the workers of the Simón
01:04Bolívar hydroelectric power plant who in less than 24 hours restored the electric service
01:09after the attack to the heart of the Giri system that left the country without electricity.
01:13The report with Madeline Garcia.
01:17The view does not reach the majesty of the Simón Bolívar hydroelectric power plant,
01:22considered the fourth largest in the world.
01:30This is where electricity is produced for the entire country.
01:37The road leads us to the heart of the Giri system that was attacked in the early hours
01:41of Friday, August 30, two days after the presidential elections that ratified Nicolás Maduro as
01:48President of Venezuela.
01:53Beneath these great walls are the turbines that generate the electricity produced by
01:58the Caroni river, which is dammed here in the state of Bolívar in the southeast of
02:03the country.
02:08This time the aggression attempted to liquidate this dam, unlike in 2019, which was the first
02:14large-scale attack on the system.
02:20Because it went directly to the Giri, it went directly to the main busbar, and when we say
02:24main busbar, it is the main source of generation of the country, and that immediately brings
02:29as a consequence a cascade effect in all of the rest of the country, and of course in
02:34all the national geography, because this is an interconnected system.
02:38The transmission lines that come from Giri to El Tigre were attacked, and that brought
02:43as a consequence an action of some equipment in which a destabilization of the frequency
02:47was produced.
02:54Executive Vice President Elsie Rodríguez and the Minister of Electricity arrived here.
02:58They supervised that everything is going well in the different areas.
03:05This is the operations command room of the Giri distribution yard.
03:09From here the energy generated in the powerhouse of the hydroelectric plant is controlled and
03:14distributed and transmitted to the center, east and west of the country.
03:23We must be alert to these perverse extremist plans.
03:28The whole world on alert.
03:30The plans of the Venezuelan ultra-right wing and the threats do not cease.
03:34This is how they left a record of what the attacks was able to break in.
03:41A political leadership that has the task of coordinating what is done inside and what
03:45is done outside, surrounding the hostage taker as it is done when you have a prolonged hostage
03:50situation, cutting off his water and electricity.
03:54They are the operators of the United States in Venezuela who are facing an escalation
03:59of aggression and attempted coup d'état that is still in full swing and is now being
04:04expressed in the electrical system.
04:08No one is going to stop this country.
04:10What is coming are years of prosperity and well-being for us.
04:15This is the Giri control room where everything is monitored.
04:18It is the brain.
04:20That day at dawn the workers, technicians and experts did not stop.
04:24As a 19-year-old girl who is part of the team had never experienced a similar situation.
04:37I was very nervous, but we tried as much as possible to solve and resolve the situation
04:42and to be there for our people.
04:46I want to bring you a message of gratitude from the President, because the Corpoelec
04:50workers have always been on the front line in defense of the Venezuelan people and we
04:53know the tremendous effort they have given.
04:59President Maduro sent a message to all his workers.
05:03Venezuela remains under siege.
05:07With the determination of the ultra-right wing, extremism and now fascism and the gringos
05:13to attack in order to destroy the warhead that provides electricity to our country from
05:19Maximum commitment, maximum commitment to the homeland, maximum loyalty, maximum technical
05:26capacity.
05:28In record time, in a safe, stable and very robust manner, the electric service was delivered
05:35to the people of Venezuela.
05:37My gratitude.
05:43Investigations continue to find the perpetrators and masterminds of this new attack on the
05:48electrical system.
05:54In Bolivia, forestry and land authorities confirmed that they will deliver in the next
05:57few days a regulation of the Supreme Decree 3230, which strengthens the punishment against
06:02arsonists in the country.
06:05After a week of facing the forest fires, Director of Legal Affairs of the National Protected
06:09Area Service, Ramiro Vidaurre, declared that the forestry and land authorities are working
06:13on the regulation of the Supreme Decree that will be formally delivered to the national
06:17government and the Ministry of Environment and Water.
06:20It is worth mentioning that to date, 274 administrative and tanking processes are being followed for
06:26the fires in the country.
06:34And in Honduras, on Sunday night, the Liberty and Re-Foundation Party, known as Partido
06:38Libre, ratified the absolute support of President Xiomara Castro and rejected the interference
06:42of the United States.
06:44After concluding an extraordinary session, the Partido Libre communicated the decision
06:47to repel external threats that may alter the realization of elections in 2025.
06:52In a statement read by Honduran Vice President of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Torres, denounced
06:58the interfering declarations by the U.S. Ambassador Laura Doggo and her retirementary personnel,
07:05which according to several sectors point to a conspiracy for a new coup d'etat.
07:09In this context, the ruling party called for a large mobilization in the Honduran capital
07:13on September 15 in support of President Xiomara Castro in addition to celebrate the appointment
07:18of Rixie Moncada as new Defense Minister.
07:28To ratify the absolute and unwavering support to Comrade Xiomara Castro and to actively
07:34accompany her courageous and firm decisions to maintain peace and security and respect
07:40for the independence, sovereignty and self-determination of our people.
07:47To repel external threats that threaten the realization of clean, free democratic elections
07:53in the year 2025 and thus avoid a repetition of the tragic events of the coup d'etat of
07:59July 28, 2009.
08:05To condemn and reject the interference of the Embassy of the United States of America
08:11by attacking the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces and the former
08:16Minister of Defense in violation of international principles and conventions trying to provoke
08:22the destabilization of the armed forces.
08:25Let's now take a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at Televisión
08:32English where you will find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
08:39We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:03Welcome back.
09:07In the United States, 10,000 hotel workers went on strike to demand higher wages and
09:11a return to pre-COVID-19 pandemic staffing levels.
09:14According to the union that called the strikes, the large chain hotels were affected by the
09:18abandonment of 5,000 workers in the Hawaiian capital Honolulu alone, which affected the
09:24service of more than 10,000 rooms.
09:26Also pointed out in a statement that many hotels took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic
09:30to reduce staff, which caused workers to lose their jobs and income.
09:35In this sense, the strikers concentrated in several hotels in Boston and called a demonstration
09:39for Monday.
09:40In Libya, citizens celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Al-Fateh revolution that led to the
09:49overthrow of the monarchy and brought Muammar al-Qadhafi to power.
09:53According to local media, the people took to the streets of the country with slogans
09:56and waving the green flag used during Qadhafi's stay as a symbol of the heroic revolution.
10:02In this sense, the citizens expressed their conviction that Libya would be free again
10:06and the legacy of Muammar al-Qadhafi would prevail for years to come on the political
10:11level and social levels.
10:12It is important to note that the Al-Fateh revolution was accredited by Muammar al-Qadhafi
10:17against King Idris I, motivated by public discontent over corruption, foreign influence
10:22and the inefficiency of the monarchical government.
10:47The United Nations denounced that Israel has destroyed 70% of the schools in Gaza run by
10:52the Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.
10:56This way, UN authorities confirmed that in the context of the Israeli onslaught, most
11:00of the schools have been repurposed to care for the thousands of Palestinian refugees
11:04displaced by the conflict.
11:06The UN added that more than 600,000 children are missing school due to destruction caused
11:10by the bombings, as authorities warned that these actions fuel resentment and extremism
11:15in the region.
11:16In this context, the agency reiterated its call for a ceasefire to prevent minors from
11:20suffering abuse and exploitation, as well as to avoid their recruitment into armed groups.
11:30In the occupied West Bank, Israel's military operations in Jenin refugee camp have resulted
11:33in the death of at least 24 Palestinians in the past five days.
11:37The Israeli military has escalated its operations in Palestinian territories, particularly in
11:42Jenin, under the pretext of combating alleged terrorist threats.
11:46This escalation of violence resulted in severe humanitarian crises that led to the displacement
11:51of numerous families.
11:52Palestinians are facing critical shortages of food and medicine, and many are too terrified
11:57to leave their homes.
11:58The ongoing violence reflects a broader pattern of operations against the Palestinian people,
12:03who have endured increasing casualties and displacement since the onset of the conflict
12:06in October 2023.
12:08We live in terror and fear for the children.
12:15In addition to the fact that we have infants in the building who have no milk or diapers,
12:20no bread, no food for the rest of the residents, no one dares to go out.
12:25Because there is a sniper in the Rayyan building who shoots at anything he sees, I went out
12:30at a risk.
12:31I walked close to the wall so that the sniper would not see me in order to get here, in
12:36order to bring bread and water, water to drink.
12:41In Israel, the main trade union center, Istatrut, called for a general strike to demand an agreement
12:46for the release of the hostages and to protest against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
12:51Although the duration of the strike has not been specified, one of the most significant
12:55measures is the cancellation of all flights at Ben Gurion International Airport.
12:59Furthermore, dozens of businesses and restaurants have decided to close their doors in relation
13:04to universities, hospitals, banks, stores, and several public offices which are either
13:08paralyzed or working at minimum capacity.
13:12The action comes after the recent recovery of the six bodies of Israeli prisoners that
13:15has intensified criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accused of obstructing
13:20negotiations with the Palestinian Resistance, Hamas.

14:02Welcome back.
14:06In Russia, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Ukraine is a bargaining chip for
14:10Western geopolitical ambitions based on anti-Russian sentiment.
14:14The head of state asserted that the deliberate anti-Russian policy of the West, with the
14:18United States at the forefront, has led them to finance anti-Russian nationalist organizations
14:23and have systematically shown the belief that Russia is an alleged enemy of Ukraine and
14:28the main threat to its existence.
14:30President Putin also referred to the harassment of Russian correspondents and the repeated
14:34attacks on his country's athletes.
14:45The far-right Alternative for Germany party led the regional elections held in the state
14:50of Turinka.
14:51Local media estimate that the advance of the party, with openly xenophobic positions, was
14:56related to the increase of anti-immigrant tendencies.
14:59Likewise, the victory of the extreme right is something unprecedented in the country
15:04since the post-war period and it is unlikely that it would lead the region, since the other
15:08far-right formations reject any coalition with the party that based its discourse against
15:14immigration and military support to the Ukrainian regime.
15:17Regarding their results, the far-right formation obtained about 33.1% of the votes, ahead of
15:23the Conservative of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany party with 24.3%, according
15:28to the first exit polls.
15:31On Monday, several African leaders have been arriving in China to attend, from September
15:394th to the 6th, the 2024 Summit on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
15:44The forum is made up of China, the African Union Commission of the three African countries,
15:49all except Swatini.
15:50The President of China, Xi Jinping, will open the event, with UN Secretary-General António
15:54Guterres, who will be attending as a special guest, together with other international organizations
15:59that will act as observers.
16:01African nations are actively working on their 2063 Agenda, supported by a $167.8 billion
16:08bilateral trade force with China in the first half of 2024.
16:12For their part, Chinese officials' interests focus on strengthening the Belt and Road Initiative
16:17with African countries.
16:19Over the past 11 years, Chinese enterprises have participated in the construction and
16:26renovation of more than 10,000 kilometers of railways, nearly 100,000 kilometers of
16:31highways, nearly 1,000 bridges, about 100 ports, 66,000 kilometers of power transmission
16:39and transformation lines, and 150,000 kilometers of backbone communication networks in various
16:44African countries.
16:46In terms of railways, projects such as the Kenya-Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, Ethiopia-Djibouti
16:52Railway and Nigeria-Lagos-Ibadan Railway constructed by Chinese enterprises have effectively helped
16:58Africa form a railway backbone network.
17:00During the upcoming FOCAC Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, China will also sign a
17:06number of new cooperation plans with some African countries to jointly build the Belt
17:10and Road.
17:12And in Azerbaijan, the ruling party headed by President Ilham Aliyev won 68 seats out
17:16of the 125 in the country's unicameral parliament following the September 1st early elections.
17:22According to the Central Election Commission, the election saw a 37.24 percent turnout.
17:26In this context, 10 opposition parties will receive a total of 11 seats, three more than
17:30in the previous parliament, with a further 46 seats being won by candidates who run as
17:35independents.
17:37It is worth highlighting that the CDC statistics available at this point are preliminary as
17:41the Commission is expected to present the final results within 20 days and then submit
17:46a report to the Constitutional Court for approval.
18:07On Monday, both spokespersons of the International Paralympic and Paris 2024 committees agreed
18:12on keeping the Aikido's Paralympic symbol in Paris for its values of courage, determination,
18:18inspiration and equality.
18:19They also noted the acceptance of the Paralympics.
19:06And in France, during the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, athletes from Latin America
19:21and the Caribbean have had outstanding performances, winning the region several medals.
19:26In this regard, Brazilian competitors have won in swimming, athletics, taekwondo, para-triathlon,
19:32shooting and table tennis, reaching 9 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze medals, placing Brazil
19:37as the leading Latin American country on the 5th global position in the medal table so
19:41far.
19:42Meanwhile, Colombians have stood out in athletics and swimming, gaining 3 gold, 2 silver, 4
19:47bronze medals to reach the 2nd regional position.
19:49Mexican contenders have obtained a gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze, getting the 3rd place
19:54in the region.
19:56Venezuela achieves the 4th regional spot with a gold and silver medals, followed by Argentina
20:01with 1 gold and 3 bronze, Peru with 1 gold and Cuba with a silver one.
20:25We go now to Colombia to get to know the natural coffee landscape of this region.
20:29Let's see.
20:32These productive landscapes are located in certain points of the Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda
20:38and Norte Valle del Cauca, located in the center and the west of the Andes mountain
20:43range.
20:44In them are integrated 18 urban settlements, which maintain a harmony between the natural,
20:49economic and cultural, which are combined in a monotonous area with coffee plantations,
20:55cultivated in collaboration, some of them in clearings of the Caldas de Selva Alta.
21:07The architecture that is found when visiting these spaces is a fusion between Spanish
21:11cultural patterns and the indigenous cultures of the region, which are adapted to the process
21:16involved in the cultivation of coffee.
21:19A clear example of this is the sliding roofs, with large walls that are built by a system
21:24that allows them to be more flexible and dynamic.
21:27Currently, more than 50% of the walls are built with this traditional method.
21:39The natural coffee landscapes are the result of a process of adaptation of the population
21:44of Ethiopia.
21:45In the middle of the 19th century, actions that facilitated a culture and economy that
21:49are rooted in the coffee tradition, the coffee producing farms in mountainous areas, the
21:53way of life of the coffee growners is different from what is known, because it is based on
21:57legacies that have been transmitted through time.
22:05In 2011, this landscape was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List, arguing that it is an
22:10exceptional example of a cultural, sustainable and productive landscape, which over time
22:15has adapted to the diverse geographical and climatological characteristics that occur
22:19over the years.
22:23For this we have come to the end of this news brief.
