00:00:00Except that poor mailman.
00:00:05So anyway, on June 23rd, in the afternoon,
00:00:08two of Keillor's chief security guys followed Keillor's own daughter and her girlfriend over to the beach.
00:00:13Suzanne and Sharon, now, they didn't even know they'd been followed.
00:00:16Wait.
00:00:17The girls were driving a guy called Arnie, who used to work for Keillor.
00:00:20Arnie'd been fired, you see. Arnie was a blackmailer.
00:00:27He's got a bug on him. I thought he did.
00:00:29Means he was probably bugging us this morning. Maybe the whole time.
00:00:33Son of a...
00:00:40Come on, come on.
00:00:46Arnie was paying a call on Keillor's two main assistants, Donald and Ruth.
00:00:50The funny thing is, Keillor himself didn't know about any of this stuff until even after I did.
00:00:53It is kind of confusing, isn't it?
00:00:55It was confusing to everybody there, too.
00:00:57Now, maybe if Suzanne and Sharon hadn't been so nervy, so damn curious, things might have been different.
00:01:04Harry, Conrad, Keillor's daughter, they don't like it much either, but there's not much they can do about it.
00:01:10Hey, don't feel bad. Everybody's ripping Keillor off.
00:01:13They used to work for the guy, I know.
00:01:15Hey, people, it's rude to turn your back on a guest.
00:01:18You're insane if you think we're gonna pay you anything.
00:01:20You got nothing on us.
00:01:21Hey, hey, hey, back up.
00:01:22Look out!
00:01:28Ow!
00:01:40What is this?
00:01:42They're taping us.
00:01:43Get the tape.
00:01:48What about the gun and the...
00:01:49All right, get him in the rug.
00:01:50In the rug?
00:01:51Roll it up.
00:01:53What do I do? What's gonna happen?
00:01:55What do I do? What's gonna happen?
00:01:57All right, get him out.
00:02:08And it was just that moment Molly picked to show up.
00:02:11Molly Gilbert, the only person in the story I'd ever met before.
00:02:14Some years before, that is, 19 years before.
00:02:19She didn't have anything to do with Keillor, except that Donald worked for Keillor,
00:02:22and Donald, the blonde guy with the carpet,
00:02:24had just broken up with Molly because of Ruth, the other one with the carpet.
00:02:28And Molly was pretty esteemed about it.
00:02:49What are you doing here?
00:02:52Getting my stuff.
00:02:53This is not the time to be here.
00:02:55Would you mind coming back another day?
00:02:57It's always inconvenient.
00:03:00Look, what are you doing here?
00:03:01I'm just packing my stuff, okay?
00:03:02Yeah, well, just make sure it's yours.
00:03:04Molly?
00:03:09Look, if this is not all of your stuff, I can tell that you're being reckless.
00:03:12It is not. Look at all of this.
00:03:15These are my papers, all right?
00:03:16They are.
00:03:17They are not.
00:03:18They're my papers.
00:03:19Those are not all yours.
00:03:49Let's go.
00:04:12So, anyway, six months later, well, actually about two weeks ago,
00:04:15I was still in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 500 miles from home.
00:04:19I'd been living, happily I thought, with a woman a little older than me.
00:04:22I guess I like older women.
00:04:24A sculptress named Sonia.
00:04:26But December 17th, I had a pretty bad day myself.
00:04:29Actually, it was murder.
00:04:30Well, I mean, nobody got killed.
00:04:31I mean, that day was murder.
00:04:33It was the afternoon, and I was coming home early.
00:04:36It was a surprise.

00:07:39You have a chance when you play with fire.
00:07:41Sometimes you might get burned.
00:07:44Love is a gambler.
00:07:45Love is a gambler.
00:07:47Lady Luck is always there when the wheel is turned.
00:07:52When the wheel turns.
00:07:55When the wheel turns.
00:07:59Lady Luck, won't you turn that wheel for me?
00:08:05It was good being home again in Florida.
00:08:08Ponce de Leon named it after Flora, the goddess of flowers.
00:08:11I guess old Ponce was a hopeless romantic too.
00:08:14That's what my mother started calling me.
00:08:16A hopeless Romeo.
00:08:17Maybe because it was Christmas time,
00:08:19but I certainly was looking forward to seeing her again
00:08:22and my kid brother Andrew.
00:08:23Even though I told Andrew I'd be coming home the conquering hero.
00:08:27Oh well.
00:08:28My mother was always up to something screwy.
00:08:30You could just never predict her.
00:08:31She's also been married about seven times.
00:08:33My mom always says,
00:08:34Richard, you've got to remember,
00:08:35love is a gamble.
00:08:36Most of the time you lose,
00:08:37so there's no point in being depressed too long when you do.
00:08:40It's just the way it goes with love.
00:08:41Better luck next time.
00:08:43My mother's an optimist.
00:08:44I guess maybe I am too.
00:08:47Yes sir, you said a mouthful.
00:08:48Johnny, that's a big hit single for the man in black.
00:08:50And it sure is a beautiful morning here in St. Augustine.
00:08:53Only eight more shopping days to Christmas
00:08:55and it's over 85 in the shade.
00:08:57Hey Charles, you hear that Al B. Keogh guy
00:08:59is having a Christmas party to show off what he's done in the old fort?
00:09:07Had a good night's sleep?
00:09:09Don't worry about a thing, Mom.
00:09:11I got a very good deal.
00:09:12Uh-huh.
00:09:13500 miles, $500.
00:09:14That's only a dollar a mile.
00:09:15I love bargains.
00:09:16You look exhausted.
00:09:17You want to lie down?
00:09:18I'd be eternally in your debt, ma'am.
00:09:20Well, come on before you fall down.
00:09:21I'll pay you back.
00:09:22I'll pay you back for anything you do, Mom.
00:09:24Well, it's the thought that counts, sweetie,
00:09:25but I won't hold my breath.
00:09:27Yeah, but we get our vouchers.
00:09:28I'll design a voucher.
00:09:29They just need to mature a little bit.
00:09:30Well, that's true of a lot of things.
00:09:31Hail the conquering hero.
00:09:33Yeah, true.
00:09:34How much this time?
00:09:35Don't fuss about it, Andrew.
00:09:36And say hello to Wally.
00:09:37Hi, Andrew.
00:09:38Hi.
00:09:39Uh, Andrew, the world is a strange place.
00:09:40Wally, how about a little room and board?
00:09:41I'd be eternally in your debt, ma'am.
00:09:43You already said that.
00:09:44Just take it off the top.
00:09:45Don't worry about a thing, little buddy,
00:09:46because I'm fine, Andrew.
00:09:47I'm a freaking ass.
00:09:49I'm a dynamo.
00:09:50I'm a wrecking machine.
00:09:51Yeah, and I'm getting wicked deja vu here, Richard.
00:09:59Name?
00:10:00Richard Dice.
00:10:01Dice, Richard.
00:10:02Hair, dark, 24.
00:10:03Eyes blue, 5'11".
00:10:05The other side.
00:10:06Who are you?
00:10:07Oh, Freddy Bonflecker, police department.
00:10:09I've been going with you over the past couple of months.
00:10:11Sorry about the choke hold, but suburban crime is under control.
00:10:15Call me Uncle Freddy.
00:10:17OK.
00:10:21It was a little strange being in my old room again.
00:10:24Sort of like bumping into the ghost of Richard past.
00:10:26And right then, he didn't seem like a very interesting guy.
00:10:29Certainly not a lucky one.
00:10:30But all that was going to change.
00:10:33An old gypsy numerologist told me once,
00:10:35trust the dice.
00:10:36They would guide me, she said, on the path of life.
00:10:41Twenty.
00:10:42That's two.
00:10:43That's love.
00:10:44OK, then.
00:10:47No smoking today.
00:10:49No smoking at all.
00:10:52This is Dice's alligator mud.
00:10:54I gather you're a business woman, Mrs. D.
00:10:56Well, don't gather too much, honey.
00:10:58We're just trying to get this new facial off the ground.
00:11:00We used the red clay from out back, mixed with horse protein.
00:11:03Richard wasn't in Winston-Salem for very long, was he, Mom?
00:11:06You're not in shock about it, are you, honey?
00:11:08Not really.
00:11:09What's the story with Uncle Freddy?
00:11:11Freddy's not a bad guy.
00:11:12You just have to get past the paranoia.
00:11:14Also, he's tall.
00:11:15I have to go out to the Keeler place.
00:11:17I don't believe we've had the pleasure.
00:11:19Wally, Freddy, Freddy, Wally, and don't start frisking.
00:11:21Up, up, keep them up.
00:11:23He does that to everybody.
00:11:25Since Al B. Keeler moved into the old fort, you have to be careful.
00:11:28With all that money around town, boy, draws kooks like bees to honey.
00:11:32Well, that guy Keeler may be rich, but he's an idiot.
00:11:35You are speaking of one of America's richest and most respected men, Evelyn.
00:11:39Why, if he hadn't inherited every penny from his father,
00:11:42he could have had the brains to...
00:11:44Be a policeman?
00:11:45You are a smart aleck.
00:11:46And you, I don't know about you yet.
00:11:48This one's clean.
00:11:50Well, he is tall.
00:11:52You weren't in Winston-Salem for very long, were you, Rich?
00:11:58It didn't pan out, huh, kid?
00:12:00You know, I just don't think Sonia was ready to accept
00:12:03the responsibility of two people living together.
00:12:05Yeah, she made him take a number.
00:12:07I think I'm swearing off women for a while.
00:12:09That's a bit drastic, isn't it?
00:12:11No, no, see, I was reading this magazine.
00:12:12They said I was a love addict.
00:12:13Love addict?
00:12:14Yeah, you know, reckless, made happy, craves for attention.
00:12:16I want my drives.
00:12:17They're out of control.
00:12:18You know, I'm a hopeless romantic.
00:12:20Oh, forget it, baby.
00:12:21Take a week off.
00:12:22Relax.
00:12:23Oh, no, I'm gonna be out of here in less than a week, really.
00:12:24I'm on a roll.
00:12:25I got this rhythm going.
00:12:26Job, boom, career, boom, apartment, boom.
00:12:29Oh, no.
00:12:30What is it?
00:12:31Not another warrant?
00:12:32Jury duty.
00:12:33Today's the deadline.
00:12:34I have to be there by nine.
00:12:35Oh, well, I'll get out of it.
00:12:37This is an easy one.
00:12:38And then it's gonna be job, boom, career, boom, apartment, boom.
00:12:41I'm gonna have to use the car.
00:12:43Hey, Ma, you promised me the car for work after school.
00:12:45Oh, I'll be out of this jury thing before then.
00:12:47Mom, you remember that Mexican wallet that you gave me
00:12:49with the hundred in it?
00:12:50Uh-huh.
00:12:51I have the wallet.
00:12:52I just don't have the hundred.
00:12:53Cute.
00:12:55Don't anybody worry about me.
00:12:57I've been at square one before.
00:12:58The key right now is discipline.
00:13:00Some of us just have to give ourselves that short leash.
00:13:03I've heard about that leash before.
00:13:05Kid's a good talker, though.
00:13:07Gonna go far.
00:13:08Yeah, but he just might have to get towed the whole way.
00:13:11Hello, my love.
00:13:12How you doing?
00:13:13Finally.
00:13:15Yeah, I've been waiting forever for you.
00:13:18What's up, man?
00:13:19Well, Andy, I like your shirt.
00:13:20It's a great shirt.
00:13:21I wore it for mom.
00:13:22No, it's not, it's a friend of mine.
00:13:24You know, it's too expensive.
00:13:25I'm not even sure if it's gonna fit.
00:13:26It's not gonna fit.
00:13:27It's too small.
00:13:28Oh, it's okay.
00:13:29They won't take it.
00:13:30Oh, you're my smiling face.
00:13:31It's not gonna fit.
00:13:32It's not gonna fit.
00:13:33All right, all right.
00:13:34You know, I want to have the whole thing,
00:13:35but I want to make sure you get it just right.
00:13:36I'm not going to be able to do this, I'm afraid.
00:13:38You're late.
00:13:39Slow it down, now.
00:13:40Excuse me.
00:13:41If you recall the names, I want you to report
00:13:44to the criminal court on the second floor of this building.
00:13:48Aaron.
00:13:49Excuse me.
00:13:50Abernathy.
00:13:51Excuse me.
00:13:52Alan.
00:13:53My shoe came off.
00:13:54I don't mean to be a prima donna.
00:13:56I just don't have two weeks to kill right now.
00:13:58I'm sorry.
00:13:59I'm sorry.
00:14:00I'm sorry.
00:14:01I'm sorry.
00:14:02I'm sorry.
00:14:03I'm sorry.
00:14:04I'm sorry.
00:14:05I don't mean to kill right now.
00:14:06I'm getting this rhythm going.
00:14:07Job, boom, career, boom, apartment, boom.
00:14:09You know what I mean?
00:14:11I'm just a guard, fella.
00:14:12Tell her to Miss Sobel.
00:14:13Huh?
00:14:16Miss Sobel.
00:14:17Hello, good morning.
00:14:18I'm Richard Dice.
00:14:19I just got back into town and found a summon waiting.
00:14:22Do you have a slip?
00:14:23I had a slip.
00:14:24I need the slip.
00:14:27Don't move.
00:14:28Cruz.
00:14:30Excuse me.
00:14:31Hello.
00:14:32Could you give me back that paper?
00:14:33Oh, I can't.
00:14:35What do you mean you can't?
00:14:36Well, you're already registered.
00:14:38No, no, no, wait. You don't understand.
00:14:39Dice!
00:14:40Dice.
00:14:41Wait a minute.
00:14:42Could somebody just listen for a second?
00:14:44I can't do this.
00:14:45Why not?
00:14:46It's absolutely crucial I devote every day to my career.
00:14:48Well, have you got a letter from your employer?
00:14:50I could get a note from my mother.
00:14:53Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:14:56I'm just kidding around.
00:14:57No, you don't understand. I can't be on a jury.
00:15:00I like juries because, you know, I believe in juries.
00:15:03But, I mean, I believe in our whole system of American justice.
00:15:07Order.
00:15:09Order in the court.
00:15:11Order in the court.
00:15:13I mean, I like to judge and I like to be involved in something.
00:15:15Be quiet now.
00:15:17Your Honor.
00:15:18Yes, Counselor?
00:15:19My client's a little late.
00:15:21She's dealing with an eviction notice.
00:15:22But I believe we could begin the preliminary jury selection without her.
00:15:25Yes, that's all right, Counselor.
00:15:27But, of course, you know that until your client is present, the jury can't be sworn in.
00:15:31Yes, of course, Your Honor.
00:15:33Your Honor?
00:15:34Yes?
00:15:35I'm a little late, too.
00:15:37This is a particularly important week for me.
00:15:39And I was just wondering, could you say, is this a tough one or an easy one?
00:15:42Justice is never easy, young man.
00:15:44Justice is a very careful process.
00:15:46Yes, I'm sure that's so true.
00:15:48But will it take long?
00:15:49You...
00:15:51Order in the court.
00:15:53Order.
00:15:56Your Honor, my client, Miss Gilbert, has arrived.
00:15:59Apparently.
00:16:00Gilbert?
00:16:01Molly?
00:16:02Molly Gilbert?
00:16:03All right.
00:16:04If there are no further problems, let the jury selection begin.
00:16:08Abernathy, Jerome.
00:16:11Abramowitz, Mildred.
00:16:14Mildred, Mildred.
00:16:16Mildred, Mildred.
00:16:18Mildred, Mildred.
00:16:20Mildred, Mildred.
00:16:27Kuchenbacher, Henrietta.
00:16:30Kern, Lisa.
00:16:33Denigol, Tim.
00:16:37Dice, Richard.
00:16:42Horowitz, Scott.
00:16:45Mr. Clerk.
00:16:47Howard, Stephen.
00:16:50Your Honor, may I interrupt this process for a moment?
00:16:53Yes.
00:16:54Miss Gilbert is distressed because the bag that she carried to the house,
00:16:57Exhibit C, had a number of personal effects in it.
00:17:00And since the revolver is the only relevant piece of evidence,
00:17:04and these items have been impounded for six months,
00:17:07we were wondering if the court would consider
00:17:10I see no reason to hold it.
00:17:12Miss Gilbert can pick it up at the sheriff's office downstairs.
00:17:16Prosecution must apply a receipt.
00:17:18May the jury selection continue now, Miss Morgan?
00:17:21Yes, of course, Your Honor. We thank you.
00:17:23Go ahead, Mr. Clerk.
00:17:25Mr. Dice, have you ever served on a jury before?
00:17:28No, no, I haven't.
00:17:29Well, Miss Gilbert is charged with a very serious offense
00:17:31of attempted murder, Mr. Dice, in which two people were injured.
00:17:34Mr. Dice, have you ever served on a jury before?
00:17:37No, no, I haven't.
00:17:38Attempted murder, Mr. Dice, in which two people were injured.
00:17:40Is there anything that you may have read in the press or seen on television
00:17:43that might have prejudiced your judgment of this case?
00:17:45No, I've been out of town.
00:17:47One final question, Mr. Dice.
00:17:48Before today, have you ever in your life met, spoken to,
00:17:51or so much as seen the defendant, Molly Gilbert?
00:17:56Never.
00:17:57Accepted?
00:17:59Accepted.
00:18:01Justice Abraham, will you render an impartial verdict
00:18:04based upon the evidence presented in this courtroom?
00:18:08You're going to kill him!
00:18:09She did not mean that.
00:18:10I didn't mean it literally.
00:18:11And Hal Keeler, Ethan and all this.
00:18:13Hal Keeler, Ethan?
00:18:14Ruth Harris.
00:18:15She works for Keeler.
00:18:16I don't see the connection, but stick around
00:18:18and I'll talk about it in court.
00:18:19Excuse us now, please.
00:18:20Bye now.
00:18:21I don't want to talk.
00:18:22No talking.
00:18:23Bye, Nellie.
00:18:28My mom hears about this in Saskatchewan.
00:18:30Relax.
00:18:31I'm late.
00:18:32Here, pick up your bag at this window.
00:18:34Don't talk to the press.
00:18:35And keep your chin up.
00:18:37Hello, could I have my stuff, please?
00:18:38Record!
00:18:39Record!
00:18:44Thank you very much.
00:18:45Record!
00:18:46Record!
00:18:53There she is.
00:18:54I'm going to take care of that tape.
00:18:55Good.
00:18:56Tonight.
00:18:57It's one of those tapes in that bag there.
00:19:02Come on, we better go get the car.
00:19:04Huh?
00:19:08Oh, hey!
00:19:09Hey, Richard!
00:19:10Didn't get out, huh?
00:19:11What?
00:19:12What happened?
00:19:13Go right there.
00:19:14See her?
00:19:15The one with the rainbow-colored bag?
00:19:16Stunning, huh?
00:19:17You said this morning you were swearing off women.
00:19:19I know, I know.
00:19:20This is an exception.
00:19:21That's Molly Gilbert.
00:19:22When I was in first grade, she was the prettiest
00:19:23sixth grader in the school and the cutest square dancer.
00:19:25There were five years between us.
00:19:27She didn't even know I existed.
00:19:28I still loved her.
00:19:29This first love, Andrew, would be the root of my whole problem.
00:19:32You were only six years old, Richard.
00:19:33I know.
00:19:34Six is pivotal.
00:19:35Six is the number five.
00:19:36I looked up from the jury locks on the floor.
00:19:37Those two guys are looking at her funny.
00:19:39Is she the lawyer?
00:19:40The defendant attempted murder.
00:19:41What?
00:19:42Jurors aren't allowed to know defendants.
00:19:43You're supposed to be in love with them.
00:19:48Watch it, kid.
00:19:53I don't like those guys.
00:19:54Let's follow them.
00:19:55Richard, I don't understand.
00:19:56Richard.
00:20:06Those two guys look like they're tailing her.
00:20:08This is illegal, Richard.
00:20:09You know, against the law.
00:20:10The law doesn't have to know.
00:20:11Wait a second.
00:20:12They ask every juror under oath if they know the defendant.
00:20:14They asked.
00:20:15I said no.
00:20:16You lied.
00:20:17That's perjury.
00:20:31Did you see?
00:20:33This is insane, Richard.
00:20:34Let's follow them.
00:20:35Follow them?
00:20:36Yeah, those guys make me nervous.
00:20:37Richard.
00:20:38Don't you understand?
00:20:39I could be the only guy standing between Molly and 20
00:20:41years on a bum raft.
00:20:42But Richard, I don't understand.
00:20:43I remember one time at school.
00:20:45I brought her a flower on the playground.
00:20:47Too many kids watching.
00:20:48She kind of wiped the pavement with me.
00:20:49Next year, she was gone.
00:20:51Look at her.
00:20:52Get off it, mister.
00:20:53I'm moving it.
00:20:54She's got to be innocent.
00:20:55Please.
00:20:56Rich, you're playing with fire.
00:20:57Relax.
00:20:58I'll be in a box.
00:20:59We travel in a pack of 12, OK?
00:21:01Rich, you're a sick person.
00:21:02Therefore, I'm taking the kids to the clinic.
00:21:04Andrew!
00:21:17Are you crazy?
00:21:18I'm terribly sorry.
00:21:19It's something of an emergency.
00:21:21Are you out of your mind?
00:21:23Could you follow that Plymouth?
00:21:24Someone stole my car.
00:21:25Yeah, OK.
00:21:26Is that why you're following her?
00:21:27Who?
00:21:28The woman in the Plymouth.
00:21:29No, no.
00:21:30I think her life's in danger.
00:21:34Well, hello there.
00:21:35This was all trees once and wild animals, eh?
00:21:38Right.
00:21:39No, that's my friend Sharon.
00:21:40Somebody slipped her a weird mushroom a couple days ago
00:21:42on a slice of pizza.
00:21:43She hasn't quite come down yet.
00:21:44I see a label, eh?
00:21:45See what I mean?
00:21:46Uh-huh.
00:21:47They're turning right.
00:21:48Turn right.
00:21:52Are you a cop?
00:21:53Me?
00:21:54No.
00:21:55Biogenetic research.
00:21:56You know, gene splicing, et cetera.
00:21:57Oh, really?
00:21:58Oh, yes.
00:21:59I wonder who those two goons are who are following her.
00:22:00Personally, I wouldn't know.
00:22:01We're just students.
00:22:02I want to go in the boot.
00:22:03Excuse me?
00:22:04Out in a boot.
00:22:05Out in a boat?
00:22:06No, out and about.
00:22:07She's from Canada.
00:22:08Oh, out in a boot.
00:22:19Oh, gosh.
00:22:20Are you hurt?
00:22:21Are you OK?
00:22:22Yes, I'm fine.
00:22:25OK, let's go.
00:22:34OK.
00:22:55What are you?
00:22:56Do you have any sunglasses or something?
00:23:01Thanks.
00:23:02Could you wait, please?
00:23:02Sure.
00:23:17Hey, you!
00:23:18You're down a quarter of an aisle!
00:23:19Hey! Hey, guys!
00:23:20Get out of there.
00:23:21I was just using the ladies room.
00:23:22You're down two quarters.
00:23:23Yeah, well, some other time.
00:23:33Could we follow him?
00:23:34This looks serious.
00:23:35Sure.
00:23:48What exactly makes you think her life's in danger?
00:23:50Didn't you see what that goon was trying to do?
00:23:52She's on trial, eh?
00:23:53Huh?
00:23:54Maybe it was Blackman.
00:23:55What?
00:23:56Oh, she's just mushroomed.
00:23:57Go to sleep, Chanel.
00:23:58Wait a minute.
00:23:59What do you two know about this?
00:24:00Us? Nothing.
00:24:01We're on a class project.
00:24:02Class project?
00:24:03You know, seeing how courts work.
00:24:04Oh.
00:24:05What's your big interest
00:24:06if you're some biodegradable researcher?
00:24:07Biogenetic.
00:24:08Biogenetic?
00:24:09That woman is a biological time bomb.
00:24:10That's all I can say right now.
00:24:11But if you two are covering up any knowledge about her,
00:24:13the consequences could be very disastrous.
00:24:15Hmm.
00:24:17I'll get it.
00:24:32I have to get my hair cut.
00:24:34You'll have to leave.
00:24:35Sorry to say.
00:24:36It's been very nice talking with you,
00:24:37and thank you for the lift.
00:24:38It's been very nice talking with you, Sharon.
00:24:40Before the trees.
00:24:41The trees.
00:24:42The trees.
00:24:43The trees.
00:24:44The trees.
00:24:45Before the trees? Yes. This is a lorry. Oh, right.
00:24:48What did you say your name was? Hi.
00:24:51That's a nice name.
00:25:02What is it with this guy? Susie? Just a second.
00:25:16Hello? Anybody home?
00:25:21Hello?
00:25:23Oh, hi. Hello. I'm with Galaxy... I'm sorry we were on the back porch.
00:25:26Oh, yeah. Well, I'm with Galaxy Cable TV, and I'd like to talk to you about our fantastic...
00:25:30Thank you, but we've dished. Dished?
00:25:32Satellite dished. The whole street's almost 100% dished.
00:25:35Oh, dished. I see. Thanks. Thanks anyway. Bye.
00:25:38Yeah, good luck. Bye.
00:25:46I've got to talk to her. I've got to warn her.
00:25:49Maybe I should have just talked to her, but I couldn't.
00:25:52What was I supposed to say?
00:25:54Hi, I'm on your jury. You're in big trouble, and I want to marry you.
00:25:57No, I had to do it some different way.
00:26:00Anybody home?
00:26:02Coming!
00:26:04You know, I had to do it some different way.
00:26:06Oh.
00:26:07Oh.
00:26:08Oh.
00:26:09Oh.
00:26:10Oh.
00:26:11Oh.
00:26:11Oh.
00:26:12Oh.
00:26:13Oh.
00:26:14Oh.
00:26:15Oh.
00:26:16Oh.
00:26:17Oh.
00:26:18Oh.
00:26:19Oh.
00:26:20Anybody home?
00:26:21I'm coming!
00:26:34Oh, my God.
00:26:35Duck, duck.
00:26:43Coming!
00:26:46Coming!
00:26:48I'll be right there.
00:26:50I'm just getting out of the shower.
00:26:58Oh, no.
00:26:59Oh, dear.
00:27:04Oh, yeah.
00:27:05No.
00:27:14Coming!
00:27:17How did they do this?
00:27:26Well, come on.
00:27:27I don't have all day and night.
00:27:28Hello.
00:27:29Hello.
00:27:30I'm with Galaxy Cable TV, and I'm
00:27:32here to talk to you about our fantastic new offer.
00:27:34Yes, come in.
00:27:35I love cable.
00:27:36Oh, you're my kind of customer, lady.
00:27:37Now, we offer three basic kinds of cable,
00:27:40adult programming, educational programs, operas.
00:27:43Yes, yes, I'm very interested.
00:27:44Listen, I read cards.
00:27:47Would you like to have your cards read?
00:27:48I read big cards.
00:27:49I see trouble and confusion, lots of trouble
00:27:52and lots of confusion.
00:27:52Wait a second, lady.
00:27:53You want cable or not?
00:27:55Yes, yes, that's very interesting.
00:27:57But listen, this means an attempted murder.
00:27:59And this means a trial.
00:28:01And this is a warning.
00:28:03Men are chasing you, and, uh, you're innocent.
00:28:06Oh, no, the judge.
00:28:07What?
00:28:07I can't believe this.
00:28:09Now, look, lady, if you know anything about my trial,
00:28:10get out.
00:28:11No, no, no, my husband, he hates cable.
00:28:13You'll have to go now.
00:28:14Remember the warning on the big cards.
00:28:15He's signed us up for 20 years.
00:28:18Jeez.
00:28:18Uh-oh.
00:28:19Is he out there?
00:28:20Shh, just a minute, just a minute.
00:28:22And don't you dare come back here again.
00:28:25Oh, great.
00:28:25Juror caught in judge's house.
00:28:27Wonderful.
00:28:32Honey, are you home?
00:28:33Oh.
00:28:34Hello?
00:28:39Sweetie?
00:28:43Bunny rabbit?
00:28:45Where's my bunny rabbit?
00:28:47Oh, there's my honey bunny.
00:28:49Did you know that there were some hooligans outside
00:28:51rummaging in the garbage?
00:28:52How about a beer for the judge?
00:28:53I want to get out of these clothes.
00:29:02Bunny rabbit?
00:29:05Bunny rabbit.
00:29:10Bunny rabbit?
00:29:19What the hell is this?
00:29:22Ah, just be a second with the money.
00:29:24OK, man.
00:29:32Ah!
00:29:34It's just me.
00:29:35I'm trying your mom's new alligator mud facial.
00:29:37I got to keep walking.
00:29:38Oh, yes.
00:29:39Oh, yeah.
00:29:41Guess what?
00:29:42Made the jury.
00:29:43I thought you were getting out of it, sweetie.
00:29:44Where's your shoe?
00:29:45I was.
00:29:46I mean, I am.
00:29:47But now I'm considering law school.
00:29:48Richard, we've done a lot of stupid things over the years,
00:29:50but we've never been boring people.
00:29:52Where's your other shoe?
00:29:53Mom, I wouldn't do this unless I felt
00:29:54absolutely passionate about it.
00:29:56Passionate about what?
00:29:57Passionate about what?
00:29:58Passion about what?
00:29:59Law.
00:30:00Awesome.
00:30:01Andrew, where's your phone book?
00:30:02I don't know.
00:30:03Richard, where's your shoe?
00:30:04What is it?
00:30:05Lawyers only work with one shoe?
00:30:06Huh?
00:30:07Shoe?
00:30:08Oh, that shoe.
00:30:09It's at the shoe fixer.
00:30:10Resoling.
00:30:11Mom, can I borrow these few little ones?
00:30:12Oh, all right.
00:30:13You're a saint, Mom.
00:30:14Wally, while you're walking,
00:30:15would you give this to the cab driver?
00:30:16Yeah, sure.
00:30:17He'll get it all back with interest.
00:30:18I didn't think saints charged interest.
00:30:19You?
00:30:20More mud.
00:30:21Oh, give me a break, Mom.
00:30:24I'll get it.
00:30:25I'll get it.
00:30:26I'll get it.
00:30:27Here you go.
00:30:28Look.
00:30:29I'm trying out Mrs. Dice's new alligator mud facial,
00:30:31so I have to keep walking.
00:30:37I felt bad about lying like that to my mother,
00:30:39but I knew she'd feel a lot worse if I told her the truth.
00:30:43And there was just no way around the fact
00:30:45that everything I'd seen all day
00:30:46made it obvious that Molly was in much worse trouble
00:30:49than she thought.
00:30:50And somehow, I seemed to be the only one
00:30:52who might be able to save her.
00:30:56And yet, everything I was doing
00:30:57was completely against the law.
00:30:59Still, there were the laws of love to consider.
00:31:03Because I guess there was also no getting around
00:31:05the fact that I was falling again.
00:31:07And there wasn't anything I could do about that.
00:31:11Your breath.
00:31:21That's 26, that's 8, that's fruitfulness.
00:31:24That's good.
00:31:27Hey, that's phone company property
00:31:28just destroyed there, Rich.
00:31:30Give me a break, Andrew.
00:31:31I am in a position to save the life of a woman
00:31:33I've secretly loved for 19 years.
00:31:34I have to get to her house.
00:31:35You're going to jail for this, Rich.
00:31:36For ripping a phone book?
00:31:37For attempting to have sex with a defendant.
00:31:39This isn't about sex, Andrew.
00:31:40The woman is a goddess.
00:31:42What kind of goddess?
00:31:43Good goddess, bad goddess, moon, sun goddess, bitch goddess.
00:31:46Gangaga, Rich.
00:31:47Don't you understand?
00:31:48I was six.
00:31:49She was 11.
00:31:50There's a universe between six and 11.
00:31:52Height, vocabulary, penmanship.
00:31:54But we're adults now.
00:31:55Five years means nothing anymore.
00:31:56Still means something insane to say.
00:31:59You know, Ma, I know we haven't had much chance to talk,
00:32:01but I just wanted to let you know
00:32:02how great it is to be home.
00:32:04He's sucking for the car.
00:32:05No car.
00:32:06No, no, no.
00:32:07Don't even ask.
00:32:08As far as I'm concerned,
00:32:09if you want to go around without a shoe,
00:32:10you can do it on foot.
00:32:11It's Christmas, Ma.
00:32:12He's on the hook, but don't tell Fred.
00:32:13Ma, you're the greatest mom.
00:32:15Bye, Wally.
00:32:16Hi, Rich.
00:32:17Hey, what do you think?
00:32:18You're not done yet.
00:32:19Okay, but I just hope I don't turn into a handbag.
00:32:21Ma, can we call it a night on the mud?
00:32:23Now, Andrew, tell me the truth.
00:32:25What is this with Richard?
00:32:26Is he in love again?
00:32:27How did you know?
00:32:28I mean, I don't know.
00:32:29Another 10 I owe you.
00:32:30Huh?
00:33:55Wally!
00:34:26What?
00:34:27Ah!
00:34:28Ah!
00:34:29Ah!
00:34:50Come on, come on!
00:34:51Get in!
00:34:55Get in!
00:35:06What's going on here?
00:35:25Get in!
00:35:26Oh, all right.
00:35:31Go.
00:35:44Now, look, I don't want you following or calling
00:35:46or trying to identify me.
00:35:48I'm not going to do it.
00:35:49I'm not going to do it.
00:35:50I'm not going to do it.
00:35:51I'm not going to do it.
00:35:52I'm not going to do it.
00:35:53I'm not going to do it.
00:35:54Now, don't make me come with you
00:35:57or trying to identify me.
00:35:59As far as you're concerned, none of this is happening
00:36:00and we don't exist.
00:36:01Who's Shadow say?
00:36:02Hi, Sharon.
00:36:03You feeling better?
00:36:04Fine.
00:36:05Oh, good.
00:36:06My name is Richard,
00:36:07I'll idle our mysterious driver.
00:36:08I said no names.
00:36:09You're too involved in all of this, aren't you?
00:36:10We didn't know he'd be a murderer!
00:36:11Murderer?
00:36:12It's an unattempted murderer.
00:36:13Uh, I'm an attempted murderer.
00:36:14Oh, no.
00:36:15I thought you two were on some sort
00:36:16of school project together.
00:36:17No, no.
00:36:18It's my school project.
00:36:19She's just visiting me for the holidays, okay?
00:36:20You end up
00:36:21Oh, please. I don't believe a word you've said.
00:36:23Then why do you keep picking me up?
00:36:24Because. What's your big interest in this woman, anyway?
00:36:27Those two guys weren't after Molly.
00:36:28They were after her bag.
00:36:30And you two, you're after the same thing, aren't you?
00:36:32No, I told you what we were doing.
00:36:33Oh, right, the school project.
00:36:35Okay, that's enough. Get out.
00:36:38Wait, not until you tell me what's in the bag.
00:36:40You think you're so smart, don't you?
00:36:41Well, just follow your nose.
00:36:44I watched them as they followed those two clowns
00:36:46into the Keeler Fort.
00:36:48I was thinking, those two girls know a lot more
00:36:51than they're saying, so I did what she told me.
00:36:53I followed my nose.
00:36:56When Keeler bought that old fort,
00:36:57no one dreamed he'd want to live there, but he did.
00:37:00And he was spending a fortune fixing it up.
00:37:02Shipped in a lot of Greek statues and Chinese pagodas.
00:37:05Vincent!
00:37:07It's kind of ironic now, but as they say,
00:37:09little did I know then that the statue I was hiding behind
00:37:12would soon play a key role in the mystery.
00:37:15I barely noticed because I was so surprised
00:37:17to see one of those two clowns
00:37:18putting on a security chief's uniform.
00:37:20His name was Harry, and he and this Keeler guard
00:37:22were talking about a burglary that had just happened,
00:37:25and it was clear that they had done the burglary.
00:37:27Talk about an inside job.
00:37:30Well, maybe if I followed old Harry,
00:37:32he'd lead me to those two girls,
00:37:33or Molly's bag, or something about this mess.
00:37:42Oh! What are you doing here?
00:37:44I'm with Harry, uh, security training.
00:37:46Oh, okay. Okay?
00:37:48Yeah.
00:37:49But, uh, Harry, uh, kind of a weirdo, isn't he?
00:37:52Yes. Yes, he is.
00:37:53Yeah, yeah. See you later.
00:37:55Oh, uh, okay.
00:37:58As I crossed the moat,
00:37:59there was an eerie splashing down below,
00:38:01and if I'd known what it was,
00:38:02maybe I'd have turned around.
00:38:04Maybe.
00:38:05But a few seconds later,
00:38:06I was almost face-to-face with...
00:38:08Well, because of the burglary,
00:38:10one of several of Keeler's,
00:38:11Keeler had called the cops,
00:38:13and the cops had assigned...
00:38:14That's right, Uncle Freddy.
00:38:16Come in. This is Boneflecker.
00:38:17The Keeler suite's been hit again.
00:38:19They've cleaned it out.
00:38:20Three of those giant TVs,
00:38:21three VCRs,
00:38:22five CD players,
00:38:23three stereos.
00:38:24They must have had a chopper.
00:38:25Of course, Freddy had no idea
00:38:26he'd just been talking
00:38:27to the burglary's mastermind himself.
00:38:29Poor Freddy.
00:38:30Well, there I was,
00:38:32still following Harry,
00:38:33and I was just beginning to wonder
00:38:35where the girls might be,
00:38:36when there they were,
00:38:37still following Harry.
00:38:46Now, look.
00:38:47Mr. Keeler wants
00:38:48all electrical systems
00:38:49operational for the party.
00:38:50He certainly won't tolerate
00:38:51any excuses,
00:38:52so don't give me any.
00:38:53I said we'd have it done.
00:38:54Well, then have it.
00:38:55What's your name again, kid?
00:38:56Jerome, ma'am.
00:38:57Cute.
00:38:58Rude.
00:38:59Beat it, Jerome.
00:39:00Did you get it?
00:39:01No.
00:39:02What do you mean, no?
00:39:03What happened to your face?
00:39:04She came back early.
00:39:05I had to get out of there quick.
00:39:06Well, then get it tomorrow.
00:39:07If she ever hears that,
00:39:08we're sunk.
00:39:09What do you think I'm trying to do?
00:39:10You think I like
00:39:11walking through windows?
00:39:12What's with Cairo?
00:39:13I'll get him to move it tonight.
00:39:14Don't worry.
00:39:15Later.
00:39:16I'll be right back.
00:39:17Uh-uh.
00:39:24Uh-uh.
00:39:26Uh-uh.
00:39:31Nope.
00:39:33Uh-uh.
00:39:36So the other clown
00:39:37worked for Keeler, too,
00:39:38and apparently they weren't
00:39:39after Molly's bag at all,
00:39:40but after some tape or other.
00:39:42And they also knew
00:39:43that the two girls
00:39:45were after the same thing.
00:39:46Anything?
00:39:47Nothing yet.
00:39:48Another burglary.
00:39:49Probably Harry again.
00:39:50When they move that statue tonight,
00:39:51for God's sake,
00:39:52keep an eye on things.
00:39:53I'm on top of it.
00:39:54Don't worry.
00:39:55It turned out
00:39:56that Harry's pal, Conrad,
00:39:57had overheard the girls
00:39:58at the fort
00:39:59talking about this tape
00:40:00and confirming
00:40:01what Harry and Conrad
00:40:02had already been afraid of,
00:40:03that they, too,
00:40:04had been incriminated.
00:40:05And what exactly?
00:40:06I still didn't know.
00:40:07Yeah, okay, right.
00:40:08Come on.
00:40:09Keeler wants us
00:40:10to put all that stuff
00:40:11away for a while.
00:40:12Let's go.
00:40:13And why was everybody
00:40:14so silent?
00:40:15Friday at 5.
00:40:40Where were you
00:40:41at the time of the burglary?
00:40:42What were you doing?
00:40:43Hands up.
00:40:44Two walls coming through.
00:40:45I said,
00:40:46what were you doing?
00:40:47I was eating a candy bar.
00:40:48What kind?
00:40:49Butterfinger.
00:40:50How about you?
00:40:51I wasn't eating anything.
00:40:52I didn't ask you
00:40:53what you were doing.
00:40:54Where were you?
00:40:55I was in the basement.
00:40:56What were you doing?
00:40:57Fixing the lights.
00:40:58Where were you
00:40:59the night of the other crime?
00:41:00Right up front again.
00:41:01What were you doing?
00:41:02Eating a candy bar.
00:41:03Same kind?
00:41:04No, I think it was
00:41:05the baby root.
00:41:06Now we're getting
00:41:07somewhere.
00:41:08What about you?
00:41:09I wasn't eating anything.
00:41:10What's the matter with you?
00:41:11Don't you ever eat?
00:41:12No.
00:41:33No.
00:41:42No.
00:41:46No.
00:42:01No.
00:42:05No.
00:42:06Are you still in this room?
00:42:07No, I told you,
00:42:08I'm okay now.
00:42:12Nope again.
00:42:13Sure,
00:42:14we've got to find that tape
00:42:15and shred the thing.
00:42:16If my father ever heard
00:42:17Sharon wore accessories.
00:42:18I always thought
00:42:19accessories were
00:42:20like power brakes.
00:42:21No,
00:42:22they're like dead ducks.
00:42:23You know,
00:42:24I guess Arnie
00:42:25must have been
00:42:26blackmailing Harry
00:42:27and Conrad too.
00:42:28Where else
00:42:29would they want that tape?
00:42:30And what about
00:42:31that guy we picked up?
00:42:32Where does he fit in?
00:42:33I don't know.
00:42:34I don't even know
00:42:35where I fit in,
00:42:36but he's awfully cute.
00:42:37Well, I saw him first.
00:42:38Oh, no,
00:42:39he's not my type, A.
00:42:40He's too cute.
00:42:41It's Daddy.
00:42:42Come on.
00:42:46Come here.
00:42:47Come here.
00:42:49Over there.
00:42:53Come here.
00:42:54Come here.
00:42:57Hello.
00:43:03Hi, Daddy.
00:43:05Daddy.
00:43:06Woozie,
00:43:07where have you been?
00:43:08We've been searching
00:43:09high and low for you.
00:43:10You haven't seen
00:43:11any of the arrangements.
00:43:12Hello, Baby Tiger.
00:43:13We were just
00:43:14watching the stars, Daddy.
00:43:15We found the Big Dipper.
00:43:16Fine, girls, fine.
00:43:17But how many times
00:43:18has Daddy Healthy Keeler
00:43:19told you
00:43:20not to play
00:43:21near those
00:43:22high open windows?
00:43:23Sorry, Daddy.
00:43:24Bonflickers!
00:43:25Yes, sir.
00:43:26Secure those windows!
00:43:27Yes, sir.
00:43:28No, I'll do it.
00:43:29Bonflickers!
00:43:30Secure those windows!
00:43:31Yes, sir!
00:43:32Come along, Suzy Woozie.
00:43:33All right, now,
00:43:34why are you people
00:43:35following me
00:43:36all over the fort?
00:43:37Cover for me.
00:43:38Take that out there.
00:43:39Okay, come on.
00:43:40Oh, my God,
00:43:41there's no ledge out there.
00:43:42There isn't?
00:43:43No!
00:43:44I want you and Baby Tiger
00:43:45to take protocol lessons
00:43:46before you talk
00:43:47to Ambassador Tainey.
00:43:49All right, men,
00:43:50you check the balcony.
00:44:07Ledge?
00:44:08There's no ledge.
00:44:12I'm going to check
00:44:13this one out.
00:44:15Hey, who's that out there?
00:44:16What are you doing?
00:44:20Intruder in the north moat!
00:44:21Hold up!
00:44:22Intruder in the north moat!
00:44:23Intruder!
00:44:25No ledge?
00:44:26The back.
00:44:30Oh, no.
00:44:31Intruder in the north moat!
00:44:36Intruder!
00:44:37Hey, watch out!
00:44:39Catch!
00:44:40Catch the boy!
00:44:41Catch the intruder!
00:44:43Turn off the spotlight!
00:44:56Who is it?
00:44:57Mr. Dice,
00:44:58525 Old Quarry Road.
00:45:01Let me see that.
00:45:02Easy, Harry.
00:45:04It's a little surprise
00:45:05to see you in court today.
00:45:07Yeah, well, look,
00:45:08there's no point
00:45:09beating around that bush
00:45:10no more.
00:45:11What?
00:45:12We's two
00:45:13knows what you's two
00:45:14are up to.
00:45:15You do?
00:45:16Yeah, the guy
00:45:17who was blackmailing us, too.
00:45:18He was?
00:45:19Yeah, uh-huh.
00:45:20Only, uh,
00:45:21we didn't kill him.
00:45:22Neither did I.
00:45:24I mean,
00:45:25we.
00:45:29I still don't get
00:45:30your major point here.
00:45:31The point is
00:45:32we all got a major interest
00:45:34in that tape.
00:45:37Huh?
00:46:07Good morning, Mom.
00:46:08I had a little bit
00:46:09of an accident.
00:46:10That's two cars
00:46:11in two days.
00:46:12I know,
00:46:13I'm terribly sorry.
00:46:14I'm awfully late
00:46:15for court.
00:46:16My estimate
00:46:17in dollars
00:46:18for the past 48 hours
00:46:19is nearing 2,000.
00:46:20It's only 8.15 a.m.
00:46:21Wednesday.
00:46:22I know,
00:46:23I'm going to pay
00:46:24for everything.
00:46:25Not to mention
00:46:26the price of worry,
00:46:27irritation,
00:46:28and lack of sleep.
00:46:29You have to put
00:46:30all the facts into context.
00:46:31Well, let's start
00:46:32by putting that
00:46:33in context.
00:46:34Well, that's not my fault.
00:46:35I think we can
00:46:36all agree
00:46:37that's a very complex
00:46:38legal experience
00:46:39in the past 24 hours.
00:46:40You're giving me
00:46:41a lot of work.
00:46:42You know,
00:46:43you haven't had
00:46:44any sleep in two days.
00:46:45Sue the city for what?
00:46:46I'm not putting up
00:46:47a sign on a dead-end
00:46:48sleep street.
00:46:49I haven't?
00:46:50No, I can't do it now.
00:46:51I'll be right down.
00:46:52Don't worry about a thing.
00:46:53I'm kicking ass.
00:46:54I'm a wrecking machine.
00:46:55I'm a dynamo.
00:46:56I'm not saying a thing.
00:46:57That's good.
00:46:58Hey, Andrew.
00:46:59Yeah?
00:47:00Would you do me a favor
00:47:01and go in my bookshelves,
00:47:02see if you can find
00:47:03those old
00:47:04Grover Canyon yearbooks
00:47:05because, man,
00:47:06I need the one from 1968
00:47:07when I'm in the first grade.
00:47:08No.
00:47:09What do you mean, no?
00:47:10I mean, no.
00:47:11Eat, snake.
00:47:12Forget about it.
00:47:13You gotta be stopped.
00:47:14This woman
00:47:15will destroy you.
00:47:16Andrew, I don't know
00:47:17what you're talking about.
00:47:18Will you find
00:47:19the yearbook, please?
00:47:20I'm gonna tell you
00:47:21responsibility
00:47:22and one thing
00:47:23this guy never knows
00:47:24about morality
00:47:25and justice
00:47:26and love
00:47:27and never ending
00:47:28peace and value.
00:47:29Okay, I'm here.
00:47:30Oh, can I borrow
00:47:31your Bowie tape?
00:47:32What?
00:47:33I can't hear you.
00:47:34Can I borrow
00:47:35this Bowie tape?
00:47:36We don't have it
00:47:37in the store.
00:47:38What?
00:47:39I'll loan you
00:47:40my Springsteen.
00:47:41I can't hear
00:47:42a word you're saying.
00:47:43Oh, never mind.
00:47:44I'll tell you later.
00:47:45What were you
00:47:46yelling about, Andrew?
00:47:47Did you find
00:47:48the yearbook?
00:47:49It's on your bed.
00:47:50Hey, listen,
00:47:51can I borrow
00:47:52a couple bucks?
00:47:53Thanks, Andrew.
00:47:54Oh, yeah,
00:47:55my wallet's in my pants.
00:47:56Hey, Richard.
00:47:57There's no wallet
00:47:58here, Richard.
00:47:59There isn't?
00:48:00Oh, don't tell me
00:48:01you lost the wallet
00:48:02that Mom gave you.
00:48:03Oh.
00:48:04Good toast.
00:48:05Raisins.
00:48:06Hi, hi.
00:48:07Good morning.
00:48:08When Freddy finds out
00:48:09about my car,
00:48:10the man will
00:48:11call an airstrike.
00:48:12Where is the law
00:48:13this morning?
00:48:14Well, Freddy was
00:48:15at the Keeler place
00:48:16all night.
00:48:17There was a break-in.
00:48:18Freddy said the thief
00:48:19jumped into the mall,
00:48:20but they found
00:48:21his wallet.
00:48:22They found his wallet?
00:48:23And there was no I.D.
00:48:24There was no I.D.?
00:48:25There was no I.D.
00:48:26in what?
00:48:27Nothing, nothing at all.
00:48:28It's not important.
00:48:29Sounds like a pro job to me.
00:48:30Pros never carry I.D.
00:48:31What I.D.?
00:48:32I need one little favor.
00:48:33I'm very late.
00:48:34Driving to court?
00:48:35Sure, no problem.
00:48:36No, no.
00:48:37No more help
00:48:38from this house.
00:48:39Mom, that would be
00:48:40an obstruction of justice.
00:48:41See you later.
00:48:42Mom, there was
00:48:43no I.D. in what?
00:48:44Oh, sit down, Andrew.
00:48:45What did I do?
00:48:58Oh, Molly,
00:48:59who would have thought
00:49:00then you'd be
00:49:01six now.
00:49:02That goes for you
00:49:03too, Rich.
00:49:04There she is.
00:49:05Drove me nuts.
00:49:06Not my type.
00:49:07I remember I was
00:49:08just starting out
00:49:09the first grade.
00:49:10I had to go
00:49:11to the bathroom.
00:49:12Mrs. Walker
00:49:13pointed me down the hall,
00:49:14but I couldn't read yet,
00:49:15so I went into
00:49:16the girls
00:49:17instead of the boys.
00:49:18Just as Molly
00:49:19was walking in.
00:49:20I'll never forget it.
00:49:21She looked down at me
00:49:22and she said,
00:49:23get out of here,
00:49:24you little pervert.
00:49:25God, she was sophisticated.
00:49:26Took me years
00:49:27to figure out
00:49:28what that meant.
00:49:29Sounds pretty
00:49:30good to me.
00:49:34Okay, I'll see you.
00:49:35Uh, will you keep
00:49:36an eye on that for me?
00:49:37Okay, good luck.
00:49:38See you tonight.
00:49:39We're having mashed potatoes.
00:49:51I mean,
00:49:52why would she ransack?
00:49:53She never wanted me
00:49:54to have my things.
00:49:55That's why she tried
00:49:56to run me over.
00:49:57All right,
00:49:58don't worry about it.
00:49:59Oh, I didn't get
00:50:00any sleep last night.
00:50:01And remember,
00:50:02I need the angel in court.
00:50:03We are still
00:50:04in self-defense.
00:50:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:50:06If only I had a witness
00:50:07I could nail her.
00:50:08Just relax.
00:50:09Do you solemnly swear
00:50:10and affirm
00:50:11that the testimony
00:50:12you are about to give
00:50:13will be the truth,
00:50:14the whole truth,
00:50:15and nothing but the truth
00:50:16so help you God?
00:50:17I do.
00:50:18Please step up
00:50:19and be seated.
00:50:20State your place
00:50:21of residence.
00:50:22I live at 205 Genoa,
00:50:23Delano Beach, Florida.
00:50:24Better view.
00:50:25Miss Harrison,
00:50:26can you tell
00:50:27the jury your occupation?
00:50:28I'm an executive assistant
00:50:29to Mr. Hal Keeler
00:50:30of the Keeler Organization,
00:50:31and I'd like to thank
00:50:32one of his
00:50:33most loyal associates.
00:50:34Well, Miss Harrison,
00:50:35you are here
00:50:36purely as a witness
00:50:37for the state,
00:50:38having chosen
00:50:39to drop your own charges
00:50:40against Molly Gilbert.
00:50:41Well, I consider
00:50:42that matter private
00:50:43and rather embarrassing,
00:50:44not worthy
00:50:45of a legal ordeal.
00:50:46Can you tell us
00:50:47what you did
00:50:48when Molly Gilbert
00:50:49forced her way
00:50:50into Donald Clary's house?
00:50:51Well, I asked her
00:50:52what she wanted,
00:50:53and she said
00:50:54rather heatedly
00:50:55that she'd come back
00:50:56to pick up
00:50:57a few things
00:50:58she'd forgotten.
00:50:59Knick-knacks,
00:51:00trinket jewelry,
00:51:01music tapes.
00:51:02Did you know
00:51:03that she had a gun?
00:51:04Not then.
00:51:05Frankly,
00:51:06I couldn't imagine
00:51:07any woman
00:51:08who would need
00:51:09to arm herself
00:51:10with more
00:51:11than feminine wiles.
00:51:12And then
00:51:13what was your reaction?
00:51:14I was afraid
00:51:15for my life.
00:51:16I knew she was jealous
00:51:17and wanted revenge.
00:51:18Donald had thrown her out.
00:51:19I'd moved in.
00:51:20She was out for blood.
00:51:21Out for blood?
00:51:22You tried
00:51:23to run me down, honey.
00:51:24Order, order.
00:51:25Order.
00:51:26Young lady,
00:51:27I'll not tolerate
00:51:28such outbursts
00:51:29in my court.
00:51:30If you have
00:51:31something to say,
00:51:32tell it to your attorney.
00:51:33Okay, okay,
00:51:34I'm sorry, Judge.
00:51:35I don't know
00:51:36what we're gonna do.
00:51:37He's a jerk.
00:51:38He's probably
00:51:39even got the tape.
00:51:40How could he have?
00:51:41Oh, you mean
00:51:42because he was in there?
00:51:43He knows
00:51:44we're involved.
00:51:45He knows
00:51:46we're involved,
00:51:47but does he know
00:51:48exactly what
00:51:49we're involved in?
00:51:50Even I have trouble
00:51:51figuring that out,
00:51:52and I'm involved.
00:51:53I don't know.
00:51:54The police report says
00:51:55that there were skid marks
00:51:56in the driveway
00:51:57that would indicate
00:51:58you were traveling
00:51:59at more than 30 miles per hour
00:52:00when your car
00:52:01hit the street.
00:52:02Do you think
00:52:03that 30 miles per hour
00:52:04is a safe speed
00:52:05to exit a residential driveway?
00:52:06How would you react
00:52:07if one shot
00:52:08had just blasted
00:52:09through your window
00:52:10and you were looking
00:52:11right down
00:52:12the barrel of the gun?
00:52:13I stepped on the gas.
00:52:14Wouldn't you?
00:52:15No further questions
00:52:16for now, Your Honor.
00:52:17You may step down.
00:52:18Thank you.
00:52:20State called
00:52:21U.S. Postal Worker
00:52:22Maurice Nutter.
00:52:23Mr. Nutter.
00:52:28Do you solemnly swear
00:52:29or affirm
00:52:30that the testimony
00:52:31you are about to give
00:52:32will be the truth,
00:52:33the whole truth,
00:52:34and nothing but the truth
00:52:35so help you God?
00:52:36I do.
00:52:37Please step up
00:52:38and be seated.
00:52:39Mr. Nutter,
00:52:40would you recount
00:52:41the events
00:52:42of the afternoon of...
00:52:43You follow the girls.
00:52:44You follow that guy
00:52:45on the jury.
00:52:46I'll have to get
00:52:47out of the car.
00:52:48I'm on the chicken trial.
00:52:49Donald and I
00:52:50will take care of her.
00:52:51Don't attract attention
00:52:52with mail delivery.
00:52:53What happened
00:52:54then, Mr. Nutter?
00:52:55I kept on going.
00:52:56Did the Wyman's
00:52:57and the Murray's
00:52:58before the leg
00:52:59just gave out
00:53:00and I realized
00:53:01I'd been hit.
00:53:02And the bullet
00:53:03went through your mailbag,
00:53:04through all of these letters
00:53:05and into your...
00:53:06Yes,
00:53:07into my posterior area.
00:53:08And yet you went
00:53:09right on
00:53:10delivering the mail.
00:53:11Yes, sir.
00:53:12Neither snow
00:53:13nor sleep.
00:53:14Yes, thank you.
00:53:15No further questions.
00:53:16No questions.
00:53:17Please step down.
00:53:18Prosecution calls
00:53:19Donald Clary.
00:53:20Donald Clary.
00:53:21Raise your right hand,
00:53:22please.
00:53:23Do you solemnly
00:53:24swear or affirm
00:53:25that the testimony
00:53:26you are about to give
00:53:27will be the truth,
00:53:28the whole truth
00:53:29and nothing but the truth
00:53:30so help you God?
00:53:31Yes, I do.
00:53:32Step up and be seated,
00:53:33please.
00:53:34State your name
00:53:35and place of residence.
00:53:36Donald Clary,
00:53:37Volano Beach, Florida.
00:53:38Mr. Clary,
00:53:39could you tell the jury
00:53:40what caused you
00:53:41to end your relationship
00:53:42with the defendant
00:53:43Molly Gilbert?
00:53:44Well, when I first met Molly,
00:53:45she was very tough,
00:53:46a little desensitized.
00:53:47Letting herself
00:53:48put me through
00:53:49travel agent school
00:53:50was a big step for her.
00:53:51Then I met Ruth.
00:53:52You see,
00:53:53I'm a sensitive guy.
00:53:54I don't like
00:53:55to wave it like a flag,
00:53:56but I'm looking
00:53:57for someone
00:53:58to share the sunrise with me
00:53:59and by the time
00:54:00Molly had finished
00:54:01the funnies
00:54:02and a cup of coffee
00:54:03and rolled out of bed,
00:54:04hey, we'd missed it.
00:54:05It was pathetic.
00:54:06So Ruth and I
00:54:07started to meet
00:54:08at the office
00:54:09at the crack of dawn.
00:54:10Mm-hmm, I see.
00:54:11Was this a difficult
00:54:12time for you?
00:54:13Oh, yeah.
00:54:14Ask him where he was
00:54:15last night.
00:54:16Looking like him,
00:54:17but you only stand
00:54:18with a chip
00:54:20and you would take
00:54:21this turn of events.
00:54:22I'm like a rookie.
00:54:23Molly developed
00:54:24other interests.
00:54:25One day,
00:54:26I found her
00:54:27passed out in a heap
00:54:28on the floor,
00:54:29an empty bottle
00:54:30of wine next to her,
00:54:31so I dragged her
00:54:32to her feet
00:54:33and demanded
00:54:34that she play
00:54:35a set of racquetball
00:54:36and sweat it
00:54:37out of her system.
00:54:38She bashed me
00:54:39over the head
00:54:40with the racquet instead.
00:54:41Not with the string part
00:54:42either,
00:54:43but the frame,
00:54:44so it hurt like hell.
00:54:45Why you lying son of a...
00:54:46Order!
00:54:47Young lady,
00:54:48one more such outburst
00:54:49and I apologize.
00:54:52Now,
00:54:53did you hit her back,
00:54:54Mr. Cleric?
00:54:55I did not, no.
00:54:56Not because
00:54:57I wouldn't punch a woman,
00:54:58but because
00:54:59I wouldn't punch a person.
00:55:00However,
00:55:01if I were the sort of person
00:55:02to punch a person,
00:55:03I'd like to think
00:55:04I wouldn't hesitate
00:55:05to punch a woman.
00:55:06Yes, I...
00:55:07I only wish
00:55:08that had been
00:55:09the last of her outbursts.
00:55:10Thank you.
00:55:11No further questions,
00:55:12Your Honor.
00:55:13That concludes
00:55:14the case for the prosecution.
00:55:15No questions
00:55:16for the moment,
00:55:17Your Honor.
00:55:18Mr. Gilbert.
00:55:27Do you solemnly swear
00:55:28or affirm
00:55:29that the testimony
00:55:30you're about to give
00:55:31will be the truth,
00:55:32the whole truth
00:55:33and nothing but the truth
00:55:34so help you God?
00:55:35I certainly do.
00:55:36Please step up
00:55:37and be seated.
00:55:38Now, Ms. Gilbert...
00:55:39Total exaggeration,
00:55:40total exaggeration.
00:55:41When I sense
00:55:42I'm not wanted,
00:55:43I'm gone.
00:55:44I don't hang around
00:55:45bashing people with rackets.
00:55:46Yes, Ms. Gilbert,
00:55:47it was the afternoon
00:55:48of June 23rd.
00:55:49Look, when Donald
00:55:50and I split up,
00:55:51I took it hard.
00:55:52I'd sit home alone
00:55:53bouncing off the walls.
00:55:54I'd make
00:55:55all his favorite food
00:55:56and torch it.
00:55:57But there's things
00:55:58that I left behind
00:55:59at his place
00:56:00and one day
00:56:01I realized
00:56:02that I couldn't
00:56:03make a clean break
00:56:04with chunks of myself
00:56:05somewhere else.
00:56:06And what did you do
00:56:07then, Ms. Gilbert?
00:56:08I drove over
00:56:09to Donald's
00:56:10to sever my ties
00:56:11to wrap up
00:56:12the loose ends.
00:56:13Why did you have a gun?
00:56:14When you live
00:56:15in my part of the town,
00:56:16and had you ever
00:56:17fired it before?
00:56:18No.
00:56:19I'm really amazed
00:56:20that I hit anything.
00:56:21Uh, thank you,
00:56:22Ms. Gilbert,
00:56:23your witness.
00:56:24Tell her you ran
00:56:25a change of heart.
00:56:26Tell her
00:56:27you'll change
00:56:28your testimony.
00:56:29Okay, okay.
00:56:30I'll get it
00:56:31if she's got it.
00:56:32All this other
00:56:33joke is up to you.
00:56:34Well now,
00:56:35you intrigue me,
00:56:36Ms. Gilbert.
00:56:37One moment
00:56:38you're sentimental
00:56:39about a previous
00:56:40relationship
00:56:41and the next moment
00:56:42you disdain it.
00:56:43You carry a deadly weapon
00:56:44but you insist
00:56:45you don't want to
00:56:46get involved in it.
00:56:47That's very amusing,
00:56:48Ms. Gilbert.
00:56:49Obviously,
00:56:50I have a wonderful
00:56:51sense of humor.
00:56:52However,
00:56:53maybe you wouldn't
00:56:54mind telling us
00:56:55why you really
00:56:56went to Donald
00:56:57Clare's house.
00:56:58I told you to get
00:56:59a few things
00:57:00that belonged to me.
00:57:01I see.
00:57:02Is that why
00:57:03you were so violent
00:57:04toward Ms. Harrison?
00:57:05Wait a second.
00:57:06I never laid
00:57:07a hand on that woman.
00:57:08I tried to leave
00:57:09but she grabbed my bag.
00:57:10I pushed her away
00:57:11and went out the door.
00:57:12I'm confused.
00:57:13You say you pushed her
00:57:14You don't seem
00:57:15to know what you mean.
00:57:16I object.
00:57:17I withdraw the comment.
00:57:18Please continue,
00:57:19Ms. Gilbert.
00:57:20Look,
00:57:21I just wanted to
00:57:22get out of there
00:57:23but she was right behind me
00:57:24breathing down my neck.
00:57:25But didn't you just say
00:57:26that Ms. Harrison
00:57:27went out the door
00:57:28and got in her car?
00:57:29Yes, she did.
00:57:30And she was
00:57:31breathing down your neck.
00:57:32Well,
00:57:33you must have
00:57:34a very long neck,
00:57:35Ms. Gilbert.
00:57:36I object.
00:57:37Sustained.
00:57:38I have no further
00:57:39questions,
00:57:40Your Honor.
00:57:41Be quiet.
00:57:42Because I have
00:57:43to deliver
00:57:44a judgment
00:57:45in another trial
00:57:46this afternoon
00:57:47we will recess
00:57:48until 9 o'clock
00:57:49tomorrow morning.
00:57:50I'm so glad
00:57:51that you're here, sir.
00:58:06Hey,
00:58:07don't be jumping on me.
00:58:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:58:09I know that was
00:58:10a pretty weird scene in there.
00:58:11I mean,
00:58:12you were right in front
00:58:13of each other
00:58:14and then never
00:58:15to each other.
00:58:16I'm not that
00:58:17in the nuances.
00:58:18What happened
00:58:19to your face?
00:58:20Hey,
00:58:21I was making a damn
00:58:22fool of myself
00:58:23in your living room
00:58:24last night.
00:58:25Uh-huh.
00:58:26I don't know
00:58:27what I was doing.
00:58:28I guess I was just
00:58:29looking for little
00:58:30leftover bits
00:58:31of my life with you.
00:58:32You know,
00:58:33my life together.
00:58:34Well,
00:58:35why don't you
00:58:36just sing it?
00:58:37Put it to music.
00:58:38It might be
00:58:39a hit, too.
00:58:40Look, Molly, baby,
00:58:41that's not
00:58:42what my name is.
00:58:43It's not
00:58:44Sheila's name.
00:58:45What do you
00:58:46want, Donald?
00:58:47Just a passion,
00:58:48Mol.
00:58:49I watched Ruth
00:58:50on the stand today.
00:58:51I kept thinking,
00:58:52what is she?
00:58:53I snuck into your place
00:58:54because I wanted
00:58:55to dig up the old
00:58:56letters,
00:58:57the photos,
00:58:58our astrology charts
00:58:59just to get back
00:59:00to that side of myself.
00:59:01Sounds a little
00:59:02like one of my moves.
00:59:03Makes me wonder
00:59:04if we've
00:59:05still got a chance.
00:59:06Do you think
00:59:07I'm waiting for this,
00:59:08Donald?
00:59:09You've got
00:59:10to make bail, and I'm working door-to-door
00:59:12because I can't hold its full-time job.
00:59:14So if you're getting depressed, you deal with it.
00:59:16Look, how about a little dinner at your place?
00:59:19Like the old times.
00:59:20We don't have anything to talk about, Donald.
00:59:21Molly, look, I want to talk to my lawyer.
00:59:24Don't you understand?
00:59:25I'm changing my testimony.
00:59:27Maybe I'm crazy, but I keep thinking
00:59:29if I just sit down with you, bomb a jardinier,
00:59:32and we'll do things like we love,
00:59:34maybe we just might pull a happy ending out of the hat.
00:59:38After all, huh?
00:59:41Look, Mice, nine-ish?
00:59:45What the hell? I'm a jerk.
00:59:47Come on over.
00:59:48Love you, baby.
00:59:49We'll be back.
00:59:52We'll be back.
01:00:01Bye-bye.
01:00:02Hey, hey, the tape! The tape wasn't there!
01:00:29The tape you took from my pocket this morning. Yours is yours, where's mine?
01:00:32Jeez, Rich, take it easy. I haven't even gotten a chance to listen to it yet.
01:00:35Oh, thank God. Where can I listen to it now?
01:00:37Hey, I'm working, Rich.
01:00:38Come on, Andrew.
01:00:39Andrew, help me find those ZZ Top CDs.
01:00:41In a second, Mr. Marmer.
01:00:43Andrew, I need a cassette deck right now. I've got to hear this tape. It's an emergency.
01:00:46You never should have taken this without asking.
01:00:48Andrew.
01:00:49I did ask.
01:00:50Put on another tape, will ya?
01:00:52Coming, Mr. Marmer.
01:00:54Give it to me, then. I'll just play it here.
01:00:56Thank you very much.
01:00:57Andrew!
01:00:58In a second, Mr. Marmer.
01:00:59Come on.
01:01:00You think I don't know that both of you are ripping Keillor off.
01:01:03I just want a piece.
01:01:05Harry, Conrad, Keillor's daughter, they don't like it much either, but there's not much they can do about it.
01:01:12Hey, don't feel bad. Everybody's ripping Keillor off.
01:01:16Hey, you used to work for the guy. I know.
01:01:19Hey, people, it's rude to turn your back on a guest.
01:01:22You're insane if you think we're going to pay you anything.
01:01:24You got nothing on us. Pay it back!
01:01:27Hold it right there.
01:01:28Look out!
01:01:32Hey, what are you doing up there?
01:01:36Andrew, call the police.
01:01:38No guns! No guns!
01:01:43Don't move!
01:01:44Stay there or the kid gets it.
01:01:46No!
01:01:48Back! Back!
01:01:49They're after me.
01:01:51What cops? Leave a file on that guy. Open the door, quick!
01:01:53Andrew, give him the key.
01:01:54I don't think they're really police, Mr. Marmer.
01:01:56Andrew, give him the key to the back room or you're fired.
01:01:58The keys are in my jacket, Mr. Marmer.
01:01:59Go get it!
01:02:00The jacket's in the back room.
01:02:01You're fired.
01:02:02They're gone.
01:02:05I didn't do anything, Mr. Marmer.
01:02:15Those girls are everywhere.
01:02:18Those girls are everywhere.
01:02:20Yeah, ubiquitous.
01:02:21Your what?
01:02:37Hey, what do you think you guys are doing?
01:02:39Get your hands over here.
01:02:40Come on, put them on the hood right now.
01:02:42They're going to have a little explaining to do.
01:02:43Here, turn at the next street. I know a place.
01:02:45Give me that tape.
01:02:46No, no, no. We're going to listen to that right now.
01:02:48Do we have to?
01:02:49Yes.
01:03:06What is this?
01:03:08It's the tape, I guess.
01:03:09Now what do we do?
01:03:10Get the tape.
01:03:12Whew.
01:03:15Give me that.
01:03:16No.
01:03:17Now look, girls, this is getting pretty intense.
01:03:18That sounded exactly like a murder.
01:03:20That's because it was a murder.
01:03:21Shut up, Sharon. I want that tape.
01:03:23Oh, come on, Suzanne.
01:03:24This is getting too heavy.
01:03:25Tell me the truth.
01:03:26I heard him mention your name and your father's.
01:03:28Okay.
01:03:29Everybody was being blackmailed by Arnie.
01:03:30Now give it to me.
01:03:31Who's Arnie?
01:03:32Come on, Suzanne.
01:03:33The guy on the tape.
01:03:35He knew that Ruth and Donald and those two goons,
01:03:37all of them were using and stealing
01:03:39and he was holding Daddy blind right under his nose.
01:03:41They still are, eh?
01:03:42If you knew all this, why didn't you tell your dad?
01:03:44We didn't know at first, and then we just couldn't, okay?
01:03:47You've got to trust me, Suzanne.
01:03:49We might as well, Susie.
01:03:52We couldn't do anything
01:03:54because we saw the murder and we never reported it.
01:03:58You saw the murder?
01:04:00Yeah, he was blackmailing her, too, eh?
01:04:02Tell him, Susie.
01:04:04I was away in Canada at school a year ago
01:04:06and I was bested for pot, okay?
01:04:08I took care of it with Sharon's help.
01:04:10No, no, I mean she took the rap for it.
01:04:13I got bested, too, eh?
01:04:14No, no, no, no, she saved me
01:04:15and it was all without Daddy or the press ever finding out.
01:04:18But Arnie found out.
01:04:19I kept paying him not to tell anybody
01:04:21because he said that the publicity
01:04:22would kill Daddy's reputation.
01:04:24So one day I was giving him more money
01:04:26and for some reason he made us drive him to Donald's house.
01:04:29I never even understood exactly why.
01:04:31It was kind of impulsive.
01:04:32And he drank a lot, eh?
01:04:33And that's when he was killed.
01:04:35But it was his own fault, really.
01:04:37He pulled the gun.
01:04:38Ruth just ended up with it.
01:04:42Jeez, that must have been rough.
01:04:44Wait a second, Molly didn't...
01:04:45We don't even know who Molly is.
01:04:47She just walked right into the middle of it
01:04:48because of her thing with Donald.
01:04:50See, she picked up the wrong tape.
01:04:52Now, can I please have it, Richard?
01:04:53No, no, this is what Ruth was after.
01:04:55This is going to help me to clear Molly.
01:04:56What about us?
01:04:57Can we make a copy of the tape?
01:04:58Yes, of course.
01:04:59Don't you see, right now this tape is just sounds
01:05:01and the sounds are meaningless without a body.
01:05:03No body, no crying.
01:05:04That's heavy as corpus, eh?
01:05:05That's right, eh?
01:05:06Now you've got me doing it.
01:05:07Look, look, we're going to get something to eat
01:05:09and we're going to make a plan
01:05:10and we're going to work this thing out, okay?
01:05:11Okay.
01:05:12Well, the first part of the plan
01:05:13meant getting to Molly's house before Donald.
01:05:15Get there and tell her everything we'd found out.
01:05:17Suzanne and Sharon could help us look out
01:05:19and, of course, we'd all need some disguises.
01:05:21Also, I was going to need another car
01:05:23and now that was going to be a little tricky.
01:05:26Hi, am I too late for dinner?
01:05:27You're a dead man.
01:05:28That way.
01:05:29Me, I'm neutral.
01:05:30Your brother lost his job because of you.
01:05:32Huh?
01:05:33Now, I want a full explanation
01:05:34of everything that's been going on.
01:05:36Richard, you're out of here.
01:05:37How could they fire him?
01:05:38He didn't do anything.
01:05:39I covered up for you like you asked me.
01:05:41Oh, well, gee, I guess I owe you, Andrew.
01:05:43I'm sorry.
01:05:44Yeah, you're running up quite a tab around here.
01:05:46How could you threaten your own brother's life?
01:05:49Threaten his life?
01:05:50Does the phrase
01:05:51don't move or the kid gets it ring a bell?
01:05:53That was my hand.
01:05:54Mom, that was just my hand in my pocket.
01:05:56I'm trying to piece this all together.
01:05:57I just need a little more time
01:05:58and you'll get the whole story, I swear.
01:06:00What about this story?
01:06:01What?
01:06:02Recognize anything?
01:06:04Oh, the shoe?
01:06:05Oh, you think this is my shoe.
01:06:08Richard, if you're on the jury,
01:06:10what are you doing at the judge's house?
01:06:12Mom, come on,
01:06:13do you know how many shoes there are like this in the world?
01:06:16I mean, the statistics must be astronomical.
01:06:19I know what the statistics are,
01:06:21but that's your shoe.
01:06:23Uh, well, Mom,
01:06:25someone must have robbed the shoe fixer,
01:06:28nabbed my shoe,
01:06:29hit the judge's house,
01:06:30and then left it there.
01:06:31That's it.
01:06:32That's the dumbest story I've ever heard.
01:06:34Uh, yes.
01:06:35Andrew, I owe you a very large apology.
01:06:37Come here, I want to give it to you.
01:06:39I haven't finished eating yet.
01:06:40This is more important than food, Andrew.
01:06:41It's between brothers.
01:06:42Food can wait.
01:06:43This is blood.
01:06:44Can't it wait until I finish my mashed potatoes?
01:06:46They're gonna get cold.
01:06:47Seconds.
01:06:48Neutrals serve themselves.
01:06:51Richard, please.
01:06:53Ow, Richard, this is my new suit.
01:06:56Take it easy.
01:06:58What?
01:06:59What?
01:07:00I'm hungry.
01:07:01Yes, we've got a murder on our hands.
01:07:03I need your help.
01:07:04You're standing a little close, Rich.
01:07:05Don't you see?
01:07:06This is a tape of that guy's murder.
01:07:08Why do I believe you?
01:07:09Because there are weeks of murder.
01:07:10You're spooking me, Rich.
01:07:11Uh-oh, Freddy's home.
01:07:12I want you to get his car keys
01:07:13and meet me out front.
01:07:14Wait a second.
01:07:15Don't pull me into this.
01:07:16Andrew!
01:07:17Some things are out of our control.
01:07:18This is destiny.
01:07:19It's not my destiny.
01:07:20Don't you want to meet a girl
01:07:22that might possibly have sex with you?
01:07:25I'll get the keys.
01:07:28Now, all I had to do
01:07:30was escape somewhere safe.
01:07:32Safe and lucky.
01:07:33Helmet.
01:07:34Well, my old football helmet
01:07:35had saved me a couple of times,
01:07:36and maybe it could do the trick again.
01:07:41Just one last check of the dice,
01:07:43and we were off.
01:07:44Okay, where am I?
01:07:45What am I doing?
01:07:49This is 23, that's 5.
01:07:52Five minutes to our conception,
01:07:54birth, life, death, resurrection.
01:07:56This is getting very heavy.
01:07:58I see Wally's still here.
01:07:59That means there's nothing left to eat.
01:08:01That's right, nothing left.
01:08:02I'll fix you some eggs.
01:08:03Hi, Uncle Freddy.
01:08:04What about this business of yours back home?
01:08:06You bankrupt?
01:08:07Oh, no, I just got a little behind in my rent.
01:08:09Oh, who takes care of it for you
01:08:11while you're gone?
01:08:12So long.
01:08:13I just put a gone fishing sign on the door.
01:08:16Well, um, I got a date, bye.
01:08:18A date?
01:08:19Andrew?
01:08:20Yeah, he said something about a date.
01:08:21Oh, hi, Freddy.
01:08:22Gee, you must be exhausted
01:08:23with all that action at the keeler place.
01:08:25Well, I gotta drop this wallet off
01:08:27down at the lab for a print check.
01:08:29Similar ammo to the Judge Meikle break-in.
01:08:32That's a nice wallet.
01:08:33Mexican.
01:08:34I'm just going out for a little jog.
01:08:36Bye, everybody.
01:08:37Cheap taste.
01:08:38What do you mean, cheap?
01:08:47It's early.
01:08:48Who's early?
01:08:49I thought we were meeting girls.
01:08:50Shh, let me think.
01:08:53Too late now, aren't those the girls?
01:08:56Oh, yeah, yeah, that's okay.
01:08:58Which is mine?
01:08:59Oh, the blonde.
01:09:01What do we do now?
01:09:03He came home early.
01:09:04Who came home early?
01:09:05Shh, be quiet, A.
01:09:06Oh, look.
01:09:07Malio!
01:09:08Good evening, Donald, you're early.
01:09:10Hey, I couldn't wait, baby.
01:09:11You're looking great.
01:09:12Thanks.
01:09:13Where'd you get these, my garden?
01:09:14She's gotta be mad.
01:09:15Look, isn't this the guy?
01:09:17That's what I thought.
01:09:19She's playing with fire.
01:09:20Okay, Susie, you come with me.
01:09:22Andrew, you two stay here.
01:09:23Keep a sharp lookout for those goons.
01:09:24What goons?
01:09:25Who's he?
01:09:26Oh, I'm sorry.
01:09:27This is my kid brother, Andrew.
01:09:28Andrew, Sharon, Suzanne.
01:09:29I thought you told him about me.
01:09:30Oh, he did.
01:09:31Scats, come on.
01:09:32Oh, okay.
01:09:33Love your outfit.
01:09:35No, really, I do.
01:09:38Why don't you sit down, Donald?
01:09:40All right.
01:09:41Oh, hey, the falafel.
01:09:42Look at this.
01:09:43What's this, Sandra?
01:09:44Get the falafel, you doom-trip.
01:09:46Yeah, I remember that falafel, all right.
01:09:48Oh, and these guys?
01:09:49Look at this.
01:09:50Yeah, these guys are my favorites.
01:09:51I bought those this morning, honey.
01:09:53Joke's on me.
01:09:55I tell you what, I'll pick some tapes,
01:09:57and you crack the wine, okay?
01:09:59Okay, Donald, okay.
01:10:00Okay.
01:10:01You stay here.
01:10:02If Donald moves towards the kitchen or anything,
01:10:04I want you to whistle like a bird.
01:10:06Just like that.
01:10:14So, um, what's Pitmano's?
01:10:16Hometown, eh?
01:10:17Oh, really?
01:10:18Where's that?
01:10:19B.C.
01:10:20Oh, for Christ.
01:10:21British Columbia, Canada.
01:10:23Oh, a canuck, huh?
01:10:24So, um, what do you do?
01:10:25I'm in the music industry.
01:10:27I work in a plastic factory.
01:10:28We make ketchup squeeze bottles.
01:10:30Oh, very interesting.
01:10:32Sorry, I had an itch.
01:10:37Um, I'm a jogger.
01:10:38I just happened to be jogging by, uh,
01:10:40jogging by the neighborhood.
01:10:41Well, I can see that.
01:10:42What do you want?
01:10:43Oh, I can't tell you a lot about that,
01:10:44but I can tell you about a tape.
01:10:45Uh, that's what your friend Donald wants.
01:10:47So that's why he's here tonight,
01:10:48and he's looking for a tape of a murder.
01:10:50What?
01:10:51I have to go now.
01:10:52That's my bird calling.
01:10:53Hey, what are you doing in there?
01:10:54Here, read this quickly.
01:10:55I'll find out where the body is,
01:10:56then you can be proven innocent.
01:10:58That wine, right?
01:10:59Yeah.
01:11:00What are you doing, honey?
01:11:01Yeah, sure, nothing.
01:11:02Well, let's get it in here.
01:11:03I'm getting thirsty.
01:11:04Want me to give you a hand?
01:11:06No.
01:11:07Good.
01:11:13What are you looking for, tapes?
01:11:15No, albums.
01:11:16What are all those albums we used to listen to?
01:11:18I can't seem to find them.
01:11:19Most of them are packed already.
01:11:20I gotta think about certain memories.
01:11:21I like to bury them away,
01:11:22then they don't hurt so much.
01:11:24But I do have some interesting new tapes you haven't heard.
01:11:27I got one you play at the wrong speed,
01:11:28and it sounds just like a murder.
01:11:30What are you talking about?
01:11:31Why don't you take that off, sweetie?
01:11:32You'll be much more comfortable.
01:11:33No, no, wait, wait, wait.
01:11:35What's that tape you're talking about, Molly?
01:11:37You want another cracker, baby?
01:11:38No, no, I don't.
01:11:39Well, I don't know.
01:11:40It's one of those satanic heavy metal bands,
01:11:42but it did sound exactly like a murder.
01:11:44What?
01:11:45You won't find it there, Donald.
01:11:46I looked high and low for that tape,
01:11:47but I think somebody stole it.
01:11:49Is that what you came back for?
01:11:50Is that why you were over at my house the other night?
01:11:52No, look, I...
01:11:53Is that why Rue tried to run me over?
01:11:55Look, she's just jealous of you, that's all.
01:11:57You did something real important, didn't I, Donald?
01:11:59She's good.
01:12:00Maybe some key to some big deal secret.
01:12:02Look, I came here to have a nice,
01:12:04quiet little dinner with you,
01:12:05and what's gotten into you?
01:12:07Look, if I make a fool of myself over somebody,
01:12:08then I get a sixth sense about them.
01:12:10So let's not pretend to weep about the good old days.
01:12:12You want to have a pleasant little dinner?
01:12:13Then I want to know what's behind Rue dropping charges
01:12:15and you turning to mush.
01:12:16Hey, look, I better go now.
01:12:17Listen to me, Donald.
01:12:18We had something together once.
01:12:19Now we both seem lost.
01:12:20You've got to be completely honest with me,
01:12:22or neither one of us are going to get out of this.
01:12:24People know things.
01:12:25There was a murder.
01:12:26You've got to tell me where the body is.
01:12:27Look, leave me alone.
01:12:28I've got to get out of here, okay?
01:12:29Wait a minute.
01:12:30That's not your...
01:12:33You know, you're a shrewd little bitch.
01:12:35You want to play games?
01:12:36You just tell me next time.
01:12:44Okay, now.
01:12:45This is nice.
01:12:46Where's the tape?
01:12:49Thank you.
01:12:50Uh-huh, that's okay.
01:12:51Come on.
01:12:52Come on.
01:12:53Come on.
01:12:54Curl up in the back seat.
01:12:55Curl up in the back seat.
01:12:56We'll have to switch.
01:12:57No, no, no.
01:12:58No.
01:12:59No.
01:13:00No.
01:13:01No.
01:13:02No.
01:13:03No.
01:13:04No.
01:13:05No.
01:13:06No.
01:13:07No.
01:13:08No.
01:13:09No.
01:13:10No.
01:13:11No.
01:13:13No.
01:13:18The whole world's out of control.
01:13:20Okay, Andrew!
01:13:21I want you to take the car!
01:13:22Let's go, girls!
01:13:23Why me?
01:13:24Because you're after us, not you!
01:13:25Go, go!
01:13:26Okay, okay!
01:13:27Okay!
01:13:33Okay, let's double back and get your car.
01:13:35It's getting late.
01:13:36We've got to get home.
01:13:37Yeah.
01:13:42Hi.
01:13:43Son of a...
01:13:44Come on.
01:13:46Hi.
01:13:47Son of a...
01:13:54Come on.
01:14:06I don't know.
01:14:07I don't know what I'm doing.
01:14:09It's like the willow.
01:14:19All right, where is he?
01:14:21I don't know, and I don't care.
01:14:22He made me do it.
01:14:23You have a wild brain, Mrs. Day.
01:14:25Well, that's it.
01:14:26I didn't do anything.
01:14:28He made me do everything.
01:14:29I didn't do anything.
01:14:30I swear, don't you believe me?
01:14:36Mr. Dyson, go to the clerk's office and ask for a razor,
01:14:58wash, and shave.
01:14:59I don't like my jurors looking like derelicts.
01:15:01Yes, sir.
01:15:06I don't like my jury.
01:15:23Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty, not guilty, guilty,
01:15:33guilty, not guilty.
01:15:35not guilty. She's got such innocent eyes. I can feel by my water she's innocent and
01:15:40I trust my own instinct. The iron is in the water again. If I hear that damn iron
01:15:46water argument one more time. Where I come from we have an expression. When 100
01:15:53people tell you you're dead, lie down. There are only 10 of you. I'm already lying
01:15:57down. But we have an expression in Holland too. If you lay down with the
01:16:01horses, you don't get up with the goats. What are you talking about? Maybe I translated it wrong.
01:16:06Here, it's Friday. It was looking very bad for Molly, but then Lady Luck stepped in
01:16:10again. Friday? I thought it was Thursday. Friday. Among the evidence was a letter from an art
01:16:16dealer confirming the purchase of a statue. A statue with a hollow base. That
01:16:21was it. No wonder Donald and Ruth were in such a hurry to ship that statue to
01:16:24Cairo. Could they have filled that hollow bottom with something? Like dead weight?
01:16:30The body's in the vase. What? Nothing. Friday at 5. Oh, they could be shipping it. I need to get out of here.
01:16:36We're going to ship here until 5 or 5? I can't stay here until 5.
01:16:40She's guilty. You're right. I vote guilty. But we agreed. She had such innocent eyes. What happened?
01:16:45Forget about her eyes, Mrs. Kuchenbacher. Eyes like hers are a dime a dozen.
01:16:48They're right. We're wrong. All the evidence says it. We can't make a legal
01:16:51decision based on some kind of instinct. I mean, we've got to look at the evidence,
01:16:54but we've got to trust the law. She's guilty.
01:17:01Please publish your verdict. Will the jury please stand and hearken to your verdict?
01:17:10I had to get out of there fast before that body went to Cairo. It was risky, but
01:17:14I figured Molly would be okay. She'd be out on bail, and I'd have the whole thing
01:17:18wrapped up in plenty of time to take her to a candlelit dinner for two.
01:17:23Verdict. We, the jury, find the defendant guilty as charged. So say we all. Signed, Robert
01:17:29Thompson, four-person. Order. Order. Your Honor, pending appeal would like to make a
01:17:36request for bail, but due to the expense of this case, my client is out of funds.
01:17:39She should have thought of that before. Bail may be posted at $10,000. I will
01:17:46pass sentence on Thursday next at 9 a.m. You may take the defendant.
01:17:59No. No! No!
01:18:09What are you doing? It's a rescue!
01:18:29Who are you? What do you think this is, a Western? I can't do this!
01:18:33I think we've already done it. I don't need this. I don't have a chance for an appeal.
01:18:36Without any new evidence, I'll find you guilty. The body's the key. Let's go in here.
01:18:40Ah!
01:18:42Ah!
01:18:44Ah!
01:18:46I don't see a thing. I just don't like to watch people getting trailed.
01:18:50I did it for you. I know the real truth.
01:18:52You need professional help, mister. I need to get back to work.
01:18:55Hey, hey. Open up.
01:18:57There's no way this is end right. Don't worry. I've got it this way.
01:19:00Look, the day that you went to Donald's house, they had just killed a guy who was blackmailing him up here.
01:19:06And by accident, you picked up the tape from the blackmailer's machine, which recorded the whole thing.
01:19:11Ruth wanted that tape. Give me your hand.
01:19:16Oh, let's go. Let's go.
01:19:18So you mean to tell me that's what all this is about?
01:19:20Yes. That's why we're here. Use your back. Oh, good. Good.
01:19:24Come on. Go, go, go.
01:19:26What's happening?
01:19:36Thanks again for the lift, girls.
01:19:38Where are we? What is this, a getaway?
01:19:40Look, Molly, don't you see? I have the tape. When we find the body, we prove why Ruth tried to run you down.
01:19:44Hope it's the left guy. Right. Hi, Cheryl.
01:19:46You look very handsome today, Richard. Oh, thank you, Suzanne.
01:19:48What is everybody talking about? What kind of car is this? Who are these people?
01:19:51She's a transgender. She's from out of the country. I'm just a tourist.
01:19:53Look, Molly, I'll explain everything. So what's the plan?
01:19:55Wait a second. I know what's wrong with all this.
01:19:57The tape and dead body are evidence that'll prove I'm innocent, right? Right.
01:20:00And all we have to do is find them, right? Right.
01:20:02Wrong. Why didn't you find the evidence first and bust me out of court last instead of busting me out first
01:20:06so now we have a million people chasing us around while we're looking for the evidence?
01:20:09My mind's blank right now. What?
01:20:11Okay, you know how things come crashing into your consciousness just like a thunderbolt?
01:20:14No. No.
01:20:16Something just flashed. Don't let her go to jail.
01:20:18The last thing I know, I had you in one hand, the American flag in the other. It just happened.
01:20:21That's your explanation? I think so.
01:20:23This is death. Let's cut the small talk, you two. Where are we going?
01:20:26To your daddy's house. The body's in the base.
01:20:35What was that?
01:20:37Daddy usually gives himself a 21-gun salute.
01:20:39If you hear, ready and fire. Plug your ears.
01:20:41Wait a minute. Where's the statue?
01:20:43It's south of Baton Rouge. We love what Keeler did with his place. The man's an idiot.
01:20:46That's what my mother says. How are we gonna get in?
01:20:48Maybe it's me. Who? Yeah, Keeler's your father.
01:20:50Oh, I'm sorry. I just called him an idiot.
01:20:55You're okay now with those tags. Yeah.
01:20:57I better check in with my dad. Make yourselves at home. See you later, A.
01:20:59Make yourself at home? That's a laugh.
01:21:01Look, you're gonna be fine. What?
01:21:03And you're starting to believe, which I think is somewhat of a breakthrough,
01:21:05because neither one of us could do this if we didn't believe in one another. Am I right?
01:21:08Well, I'm here at the party. I might as well dance with the guy who brought me.
01:21:11Huh? Oh.
01:21:13Uh-oh. Uh, there's Rue.
01:21:20Watch out! There's Donald! Where? There!
01:21:26I've got an idea. Huh?
01:21:28Come on. Let's go. So you still haven't told me your plan.
01:21:30Plan? Oh, of course. Body, boom. Tape, boom.
01:21:33This crowd, boom. Me and you, boom.
01:21:35Wait a second, Junior. You and me, no boom. Don't get any ideas.
01:21:37Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Yeah, I'll say.
01:21:40This isn't gonna end perfectly. You just gotta believe. You gotta loosen up.
01:21:43Well, it's difficult to loosen up at a party
01:21:45when you have to get up the next morning to serve a life sentence.
01:21:47Well, if you find that body, you won't for five minutes.
01:21:49Versus when? Now it's if. Sounds like every guy I've ever known.
01:21:51Uh-uh. Not like every guy. Uh-oh.
01:21:53Huh? Police.
01:21:58A.K.B., wild escape of the courthouse involving a juror.
01:22:00They could be armed and dangerous. Let's hone in for details.
01:22:03Great. The machine got us down on sight. Thank you. Don't worry.
01:22:06The body's in the base. The body's in the base of what?
01:22:08The base of the statue we're going to see.
01:22:10Okay, if the body's in the base, where exactly is this famous tape?
01:22:12The tape is safe. The tape is taped to the nape of my football.
01:22:15The body's in the base. The tape's in the nape. It sounds like Mother Goose.
01:22:18See? There's the statue. Wait a minute. That's not the statue.
01:22:21The body's in the base of the other statue. What other statue?
01:22:24The statue of some Greeks. That's a statue of a...
01:22:26Now, that is a statue of Hal B. Keeler himself,
01:22:29his torch hand held high to light the plight of the Chinese alligator.
01:22:32When I heard that the world's only other alligator species,
01:22:35the Chinese species, was in danger, damn it all.
01:22:37Well, it's been a long, hard upstream pull of the oars.
01:22:40There's this mindless loathing of the reptile.
01:22:43I hate to tell you all, but I learned...
01:22:45Mr. Keeler, Wallace is missing. He's been stolen.
01:22:48What next? All right, move out.
01:22:50Stop once and for all.
01:22:53Hurry, Donald, move to the gator pen.
01:23:01You said you had a plan. You had a high school bear.
01:23:03Let's go where the murderers are, see if they can find us.
01:23:05I've had enough of this, Mr. Richard. I'm getting out of here.
01:23:07Wait a minute. You can't go. The police are after us.
01:23:09Mr. Richard! Huh?
01:23:11The cops. You gotta get out. Jerome, here's okay. He can help you.
01:23:14I'd do anything for Miss Suzanne.
01:23:16They've switched statues. Where would they store the other one?
01:23:18There's a shipping room downstairs. Turn right at the bottom.
01:23:20Go to the far right-hand corner at the right.
01:23:22Right. Maybe Jerome could show us. That'll help.
01:23:24All right. Thanks again, girls. See you later.
01:23:27Right onto the last corner right. Right at the back to the right.
01:23:30Ready! Aim! Fire!
01:23:43I can't see a thing. Wait a second, wait a second.
01:23:46Don't you understand? I held out for as long as I could.
01:23:49They were all against me. And then, bam, it hit me.
01:23:52Not only were you innocent, but I was innocent, too.
01:23:55And then, bam, it hit me. Not only were you innocent, but Ruth was guilty.
01:23:58Huh? Wait a second. There's a door.
01:24:01Okay, all right. Then why did you change your vote?
01:24:04Oh, that. Well, I had to get out of there before 5.
01:24:06Yeah, get out of there, but...
01:24:11Careful of that statue, boys. It's fragile.
01:24:14Before 5? Shh.
01:24:20Look, I'll go in my appeal with the help of a trained criminal lawyer,
01:24:23not some insane kid on a romantic free-fall through space.
01:24:26Romantic free-fall through space? I would agree with you.
01:24:32What are we doing? Just a minute.
01:24:40Okay, come on. What?
01:24:44What is this? Shipping list. Wait a second.
01:24:47Shipping list? Look, I want to hear and see that, Tabor. I'm turning myself in.
01:24:50You can't. We've done it. Done what?
01:24:52Found the body. Look, it's in Cairo.
01:24:54You! Me? You!
01:24:59Right in shipping! Right in shipping!
01:25:01I'm gonna tell your mother on you!
01:25:03Tell your mother? What kind of loony bin is this?
01:25:05Don't worry. We're going home now. Huh?
01:25:08There they are.
01:25:21Tony!
01:25:32Great. Will you look at this, ma'am?
01:25:34Well, they're leaving.
01:25:36What are you looking at?
01:25:38You'll like my family.
01:25:40Will you stop selling? Let's just get that tape.
01:25:42Okay, we'll go the back way.
01:25:44Go ahead. Yeah, kind of.
01:25:49Yes, it was quite a jolt today here at the St. Augustine Courthouse
01:25:52when a defendant, Molly Gilbert, and a juror identified as Richard Dicey
01:25:56fled the building in a daring escape just seconds after Miss Gilbert was declared guilty of...
01:26:01You have a wild breed, Mr. D.
01:26:03Hi, everybody. This is Molly. Molly Gilbert.
01:26:06The murderess. Attempted.
01:26:08Pleased to meet you. None of this was my idea.
01:26:10I look at you young people and all that wonderful energy gone to seed, and it frightens me.
01:26:13Mom, I know you're upset.
01:26:15Upset? I'm not upset. Are you upset?
01:26:17Well, I'm upset. I'll take care of everything. I've got to get some things upstairs.
01:26:19Molly, I'm going to need a little transportation.
01:26:21Yeah, sure.
01:26:23In the old days, I used to worry about my kids if they came home late at night.
01:26:26But today, as I saw my oldest son on the news exposed as a common criminal, I felt nothing.
01:26:30You splashed across TV screens from coast to coast.
01:26:32You're both dead men.
01:26:34Where's my stuff? Where's my football helmet?
01:26:36It's a little too late to turn pro, Richard.
01:26:38Here's a check for $115. That's my gift to you and your new life, Richard Dicey.
01:26:41Huh? I'm still wrapping up the old one. Mom, where's my helmet?
01:26:44The old one is over.
01:26:46A number of your things, including your helmet, are at Grover Canyon Bazaar.
01:26:48What?
01:26:50I had a little warm-up purge.
01:26:52Well, plans just humming along like clockwork. Why Grover Canyon?
01:26:54I'll tell you later.
01:26:56He went to school at Grover Canyon. You went to Grover Canyon?
01:26:58I'll explain it to you later. Mom, are you crazy, Ma? The tape was in that helmet.
01:27:00That's the evidence that's going to prove Molly's innocent.
01:27:02Molly, there's a policeman outside. Could you bring the truck around?
01:27:04I'll go the back way.
01:27:06Don't you see, Mom? I've cracked the case.
01:27:08You're just plain cracked, Richard. Those are all the key aways.
01:27:10You need some professional help.
01:27:12Yeah, like shock therapy.
01:27:14You don't know what you've done, Mom. I just hope that that tape is still in Grover Canyon.
01:27:16So do I.
01:27:18Bloodbath. He couldn't leave without a bloodbath.
01:27:20What are you doing here?
01:27:22Oh, one of your friends? Everybody in your crowd pack a ride?
01:27:24I told you it was Ruth.
01:27:26Why are you pointing that gun? What is everybody doing?
01:27:28Be quiet and sit down. Hand me that phone.
01:27:30Grover Canyon School, I believe you said.
01:27:32Wait a second. So you are after that tape.
01:27:34Is that good enough for everyone, huh? Vindication?
01:27:36Hey, shut up and hand me that phone.
01:27:38Did you wear out your feminine wiles?
01:27:40You just put that gun away now.
01:27:42I told you, sit down.
01:27:44In my house, I sit when I'm good and ready.
01:27:46What about me, Ruth?
01:27:48Get back, both of you. Do something, Richard.
01:27:50Go for the eyes, Mom. Stand back.
01:27:52Okay, truck's ready. Grab her!
01:27:54Oh, grab the other hand! Grab the other hand!
01:27:58All right, put him up.
01:28:00Honey, you're good. I was wrong about you.
01:28:02Andrew, get a wet towel for Wally.
01:28:04Richard, get the hell out of here.
01:28:06Bye now.
01:28:08Sickness in this country.
01:28:10You check the upstairs. All right, nobody move.
01:28:12What's going on here?
01:28:14What is happening here?
01:28:34Well, here it is, our old school where we first met.
01:28:36Look, I'm on a very thin line here, Junior,
01:28:38so don't expect me to wax sentimental
01:28:40over my old grammar school.
01:28:42As a matter of fact, I don't remember you at school at all,
01:28:44Richard Dicey.
01:28:46Dice, not Dicey. Dice. I'm Richard Dice.
01:28:48There, now you know.
01:28:50Well, whoop-dee-doo.
01:28:52No, I'm Richard Dice of the first grade.
01:28:54We weren't in first grade together.
01:28:56No, no, you were in sixth. That's the whole point.
01:28:58I'm Richard Dice, the rejected flower.
01:29:00No, you're Richard Dice of the insane asylum.
01:29:02There it is. Ruth was right.
01:29:12Ah!
01:29:22Sixth to St. Augustine.
01:29:24I've located the white tow truck listed on the bolo this morning.
01:29:26Look, there it is.
01:29:28Well, come on, man.
01:29:30Don't you understand? I've been in love with you
01:29:32since I was six and you were 11.
01:29:34It couldn't work then, but now it can.
01:29:36That's what you think.
01:29:38Oh, hi, Miss Walker. I'm Richard Dice, remember me?
01:29:40No.
01:29:42Face it, Dicey, nobody remembers you.
01:29:44That's my helmet, Miss Walker. My mother sent it by mistake.
01:29:46Could I have it back, please?
01:29:48You have to win it. Three win tickets for next.
01:29:50Oh, okay, I'll win it.
01:29:52Let's just move it, lady. Here's 20 bucks.
01:29:54Mainly half of the children, Miss.
01:29:56That's too many win tickets for next.
01:29:58No, no, no. We'll be back later to win it.
01:30:00Why don't we just brain her and grab it?
01:30:02Uh-oh. Huh? Oh.
01:30:04Ruth must have gotten away and called him.
01:30:06Oh, this is just great.
01:30:08I've been hanging around here all day like an idiot.
01:30:10I don't even remember this famous meeting.
01:30:12You don't remember the rings?
01:30:14You used to swing on those rings.
01:30:16And one time you fell and you hurt your knee
01:30:18and I brought you a band-aid and you looked up at me
01:30:20and you said, thanks, kid.
01:30:22And it was just, like, for that one moment
01:30:24we were the same age, and I'll never forget it.
01:30:26Wait a second. You're not the little pervert
01:30:28from the girls' bathroom.
01:30:30Yes! Yes, that's me. You remember.
01:30:32Watch out. Huh?
01:30:34Hey, cut that out, kid. Why'd you do that?
01:30:36Oh, we were just reminiscing. He's okay.
01:30:38The cops. Thanks a lot, kid. Don't worry.
01:30:40Are you looking for the pervert?
01:30:42Yeah. He went that way.
01:30:44Thanks, kid.
01:30:46Isn't this the most amazing thing?
01:30:48What? It's sort of like a love dart.
01:30:50Don't you understand?
01:30:52She shot me and for the first time
01:30:54you said I was okay.
01:30:56It's kind of like that poem,
01:30:58why was Cupid a boy and why a boy was he?
01:31:00He should have been a girl for all that I can see.
01:31:02Take off your glasses.
01:31:04Put them back on.
01:31:06Oh, uh, too bad.
01:31:08Oh, goodness.
01:31:10Uh-oh, the helmet. Some little kid just won it.
01:31:12I know. Come on, let's go.
01:31:22Okay, you get the helmet,
01:31:24meet me at the truck. I'm gonna get the kid's bear
01:31:26and I'm gonna distract him.
01:31:28Do we really have to clean out the kid completely?
01:31:30You have no choice.
01:31:34Sorry, kid.
01:31:36Sorry, kid!
01:31:38Sorry, kid!
01:31:40Hold on!
01:31:42Right there!
01:31:44He stole my bear!
01:31:46The bear!
01:31:48Hey, that's my kid's bear!
01:31:54Oh, no, I'm afraid they've sliced it.
01:31:56Yeah, yeah, I know.
01:31:58Here it is. It's for you.
01:32:00Now we have to find the body.
01:32:02It's always been for you.
01:32:04Even when it was for other women, it was always for me.
01:32:06You know what? I think you live in the past too much.
01:32:08Well, it's kind of hard to bask in my future right now.
01:32:16Where are we running?
01:32:18This is getting seriously dangerous!
01:32:20We've got to get to the dot before 5!
01:32:22We can't run all the way!
01:32:24Oh, God, here they come! Let's get in here!
01:32:26What?
01:32:28Quick, we've got a gift shop here.
01:32:30Are we going to give this to the police?
01:32:32No, we're going to get some disguises.
01:32:34That's not a bad idea, I think.
01:32:44They look like idiots!
01:32:46Watch out!
01:32:50Well, they say if you drink this, you can live forever.
01:32:52I'd settle for tonight.
01:32:54We've got to get out of here!
01:33:00Oh!
01:33:06Uncle Freddy!
01:33:08Maybe we can get a cabin here.
01:33:10Great, one jail to another.
01:33:18Look, Richard, life's not some crazy romantic fantasy.
01:33:20You don't just fall in love with a guy...
01:33:22Watch out, there's...
01:33:24Come on, I know a back way.
01:33:30Oh!
01:33:32Damn, now what?
01:33:34I have an idea.
01:33:36Well, I've attempted murder in a jailbreak.
01:33:38I guess a little grand theft auto
01:33:40isn't going to make a whole lot of difference.
01:33:42Oh, good, there's a tour tape. That'll help.
01:33:44Hang on, folks, this is the express tour.
01:33:50You really are insane.
01:33:52It's temporary.
01:33:54Well, hang on to this. If they catch us, swallow it or something.
01:33:57They stole a tour bus!
01:33:59Come on, let's move it!
01:34:08Look out!
01:34:26Cairo.
01:34:28Where?
01:34:30There, on the big crane.
01:34:32Oh, yeah.
01:34:34Come on.
01:34:36What's up there?
01:34:38Good vantage point.
01:34:40Look, Molly, I know you think I'm just a kid with a crush,
01:34:42and you're the troubled older woman I'll never understand.
01:34:44Well, that's just not the way I see it at all.
01:34:46I'm sure you got it all figured out in just under two hours, right?
01:34:48And 19 years.
01:34:50That is a long time.
01:34:52It's just yesterday to me.
01:34:54Shut up, you idiot!
01:34:56Hold on!
01:34:58Now hand it over, Molly, or your boyfriend gets it!
01:35:00Don't do it, Molly! I'd rather die your boyfriend!
01:35:06Don't let it move!
01:35:10Well, we're almost there.
01:35:12Almost where?
01:35:14Come on, don't worry.
01:35:18Just how do you plan to get the body from up here?
01:35:20I don't know. Let's examine the situation.
01:35:24I'm going to throw this wrench through that truck window,
01:35:26knocking the gearshift into neutral.
01:35:28The truck will roll back against the hydropole,
01:35:30snapping the crane cable.
01:35:32The crate will drop, breaking the base.
01:35:34The body will fall out.
01:35:36Oh, well, give it a shot.
01:35:40No!
01:35:42No!
01:35:44No!
01:35:46No!
01:35:48No!
01:35:50No!
01:35:52No!
01:35:58All right!
01:36:00No!
01:36:06Get your hands out of the door!
01:36:10Get your bloody gun back!
01:36:16Oh, my God!
01:36:18This is terrible!
01:36:20Well...
01:36:24What?
01:36:26All right, just stay where you are!
01:36:28Actually, I must say,
01:36:30this certainly has been the most active first date of my life,
01:36:32and really, you've been very helpful.
01:36:34You think so?
01:36:36Yes, I guess I even owe you a kiss.
01:36:38You threw her under arrest!
01:36:40Well, maybe I owe you another one.
01:36:42You have the right to remain silent,
01:36:44but if you decide to talk,
01:36:46anything you say, just a minute.
01:36:50Anything you say can and will be used against you.
01:36:52You have the right to talk to a lawyer right now.
01:36:54Do you understand? Issue these rights.
01:36:56I'm explaining to you!
01:36:58Well, actually, we didn't go to jail.
01:37:00We went to my mother's house instead,
01:37:02where there was a changing of the guard.
01:37:04The press from all over came, too,
01:37:06and half the town.
01:37:08Suzanne, you see, finally brought her father into it,
01:37:10and then it turned out that Arnie, the blackmailer,
01:37:12had been wanted for murder in two states.
01:37:14There were even rewards posted,
01:37:16and Mr. Keillor also gave us each a very generous one.
01:37:18But the money didn't come soon enough,
01:37:20so Molly got evicted anyway,
01:37:22but that was okay,
01:37:24because we decided to do a little traveling
01:37:26before we settled down.
01:37:28I guess my mom and the gypsy were both right.
01:37:30Love is a gamble, and it is all in the dice.
01:37:32Just sometimes you really get lucky.
01:37:34Love is a gambler with your heart
01:37:37Love is a rambler from the start
01:37:40And the hottest fire you know
01:37:43Is in the flame of a lover's glow
01:37:47And there's a real good chance
01:37:49When you play with fire
01:37:51Sometimes you might get burned
01:37:53Love is a gambler, love is a gambler
01:37:56Lady luck is always there
01:37:59When the wheel is turned
01:38:05You can feel just like a child
01:38:08When you fall in love
01:38:11You hide and seek for dreams
01:38:14That might come true
01:38:17Like a little boy and girl
01:38:20Playing games of make believe
01:38:23But it's gotta be a game
01:38:26That's meant for two
01:38:29Love is a gambler with your heart
01:38:32Love is a rambler from the start
01:38:35And the hottest fire you know
01:38:38Is in the flame of a lover's glow
01:38:41And there's a real good chance
01:38:43When you play with fire
01:38:45Sometimes you might get burned
01:38:47Love is a gambler, love is a gambler
01:38:50Dame fortune's always there
01:38:53When the wheel is turned
