00:00While surveying the site of some ancient ruins,
00:29two young archaeologists, Derek and Margot,
00:32and their nomad friend, Moki,
00:35find themselves trapped and sinking in a whirling pool of sand.
00:48And when the dust settles,
00:50they stare up in awe at a vast chamber
00:53filled with giant relics and artifacts from another civilization.
00:58And there, at the far end of the cavern,
01:01a door with a strange inscription.
01:04All who enter these portals pass through time.
01:28Well, at least we're lost in someplace pretty.
01:46And peaceful.
01:49And friendly.
01:57Hey, come back!
01:59Huh?
02:01Where did this come from? And what is it?
02:04It's a scroll someone's been writing on.
02:08It rolled down from up there.
02:12Come on, we'll take it back.
02:14Yeah, and maybe that guy up there will tell us where we are.
02:17And when we are.
02:25And the crowd said,
02:27Hey, mister! We found your...
02:34Huh?
02:37There! No, here!
02:39Got it!
02:41There's another!
02:43We found your scroll.
02:47We call him Moki, but you can just call him Little Mr. Graceful.
02:51I'm sorry, but everything's okay now, right?
02:54Yes, Moki. Thank you.
02:57Please, come and sit.
02:59I'm Derek, and this is Margo.
03:02My name is Mark. You had me worried.
03:05These notes are from my talks with Peter himself.
03:08My whole gospel is based on them.
03:10Your gospel?
03:12Mark, when you say Peter, do you mean Saint Peter?
03:16Well, he was a fisherman like his brother Andrew.
03:19And he was there, a witness.
03:22And yes, he was a saint.
03:25You mean what you're writing, your gospel, those scrolls?
03:30Are you writing the story of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ?
03:34Yes. I don't know as anyone has written it yet,
03:38and his story's got to be told.
03:41I was just writing about his betrayal, his death, and resurrection.
03:46The story of Easter?
03:48That's why I came here to the Garden of Gethsemane,
03:51for inspiration.
03:53Here? This is Gethsemane?
03:56The garden where Jesus prayed the night before he...
03:59Yes. Over there is Jerusalem.
04:01It's almost exactly as it was about 35 years ago,
04:05when it all happened.
04:07Mark, will you read some of what you're writing, please?
04:12It was on a beautiful, bright Sunday morning
04:15when Jesus sent two of his disciples for the donkey,
04:19the special donkey he would ride into the city of Jerusalem that day.
04:28There it is. Just where he said we'd find it.
04:31What did you expect, James?
04:33That Jesus would be right about everything else and wrong about a donkey?
04:37Wait a minute. What are you doing untying that colt?
04:40Andrew, tell them what Jesus said to answer if we were challenged.
04:44The Master has need of it.
04:47Oh, well, take him then.
04:49But I should warn you, that donkey's special.
04:53He's never been ridden.
04:55Never even been sat on.
04:57We know.
05:10As Jesus approached Jerusalem,
05:12the city seemed to come alive with expectation.
05:15Crowds gathered in the streets and grew larger and larger.
05:19Look!
05:20Here he comes!
05:21Oh, my! It's Jesus!
05:23He's coming!
05:25What is it? What's going on?
05:27Who's coming?
05:28It's the prophet Jesus.
05:30Jesus of Nazareth, the miracle worker.
05:33He turned water into wine.
05:35And fed thousands with only a few fish and a few loaves of bread.
05:39Some say he's the Son of God.
05:42The Son of God!
05:46Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord.
05:49Peace in heaven.
05:51Glory in the highest.
05:58Jesus!
05:59God bless you!
06:00Bless you, Jesus!
06:01Jesus, the prophet!
06:03Praise you, Jesus!
06:13O gladness breaks like morning when thy face appears.
06:23Through days of terrible haze the Lord has made us one.
06:34Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
06:38Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest.
06:41Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
06:46Praise Jesus!
06:48But there were some in the city who did not praise Jesus.
06:52They feared Him. Priests, politicians, men of power.
06:57Oh, popularity like that makes me nervous.
07:00I heard someone call Him the Son of God.
07:03You're a priest, Balak. Isn't that against your teaching?
07:07Yes, but you saw how excited the people were.
07:10It was a triumph, Zinal. The people dote on Him.
07:14They take in His every word.
07:16The people can be manipulated, particularly by the man you serve.
07:21The high priest himself, Caiaphas?
07:24Shouldn't we tell him about this man who causes blasphemy
07:29and creates commotion in our streets?
07:31Yes, yes, of course. You're a wise man, Zinal.
07:36Come on. Somebody had better keep an eye on him.
07:48What are they going to do?
07:50They felt certain Jesus would do something
07:52that would upset the most important religious people in the city.
07:55And the next day, that's exactly what He did.
07:59In those days, much business, buying and selling and lending of money
08:04was done in the most imposing building in Jerusalem,
08:08the House of Prayer.
08:10That next morning...
08:14the worst fears of those in power were realized.
08:20Out! Out!
08:23Out!
08:25Out!
08:33What have we done?
08:35You have offended the house of God.
08:41Is it not written,
08:43My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations?
08:47But you have made it a den of thieves!
08:56The House of Prayer
09:06Was I not right, Caiaphas?
09:08Were we not right to warn you of Him?
09:10O noble high priest!
09:12The people are moved by His new ideas!
09:15Blasphemous ideas that threaten all of us!
09:18His followers multiply day by day!
09:21We must do something!
09:24We can't!
09:26Not now!
09:29After the Passover has been celebrated,
09:32we'll see what happens.
09:35These leaders were frightened by the unusual things Jesus said and did.
09:40They were jealous and angry,
09:42and they began plotting for a way to get rid of Him.
09:45Two days after casting the moneylenders from the temple,
09:48Jesus was dining in a small house in Bethany,
09:51just outside of Jerusalem.
09:55Thank you for the meal, Simon.
09:57Are there many coming to see me today?
09:59Yes, the whole countryside seems to know you're here.
10:02I fear for you, Master.
10:04The leaders in Jerusalem, they're looking for you.
10:06Yes, yes, we've heard.
10:08There are rumors. Judas heard.
10:10The Pharisees have given orders for anyone to report where you are.
10:14Should we leave?
10:16No, there are those who would see me.
10:22Lord Jesus, it's not a rumor any longer.
10:25The priests have issued a commandment
10:27for anyone who knows where you are to report it,
10:30and they'll be well paid.
10:32You must leave at once, Lord.
10:34Let's go! Let's go!
10:36Hurry, my Lord! Hurry!
10:42No, I will stay and join in the Passover Seder here in Jerusalem.
10:46You may do what you will.
10:48We will stay and celebrate the Passover with you,
10:51all of us, wherever you wish.
10:56Then I'll tell you how to find a safe place for the dinner.
10:59Oh, God, you're great. Thank you.
11:13Jesus sent two of his disciples to Jerusalem.
11:17Jesus sent two of his disciples into the city
11:20and told them when they met a man
11:22bearing a pitcher of water to follow him.
11:26The man of the house.
11:44Whatever house he entered,
11:46they were to say to the man of the house,
11:49The Master asks,
11:51This is the last room where I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.
12:00Jesus said he would show them a large upper room
12:03furnished and prepared.
12:06And all was as he had said.
12:09So in the evening, Jesus came into the city
12:12with his twelve disciples, and they sat and ate.
12:24And everything was exactly as Jesus said it would be.
12:28So, here we are.
12:31Ah, safe and sound.
12:33Shh, the Master would speak.
12:37One of you will betray me.
12:44No, not I, never.
12:47Is it I?
12:48Is it I?
12:49Is it I?
12:50Is it I?
12:51Is it I?
12:52Is it I?
12:53Is it I?
12:54Is it I?
12:55Is it I?
12:56Is it I?
12:57Is it I?
12:58Is it I?
12:59It is one of you twelve who dips bread into the bowl with me.
13:05Take, eat.
13:09This is my body.
13:20This is my blood of the new covenant,
13:23which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
13:28I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine
13:31until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
13:40Amen.
13:45After that ceremony, the first communion,
13:48Jesus took the twelve disciples with him to the Mount of Olives.
13:58Tonight, you will all fall away.
14:02No, never, Lord.
14:04For it is written,
14:05I will strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered.
14:09But after I am risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.
14:13Not I, Lord, never.
14:15Everyone else may fall away, but I will not.
14:21Truly, I say this to you,
14:23this very night before the cock crows twice,
14:26you will deny me three times.
14:28No, even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.
14:32Yes, Lord, that's right.
14:34Yes.
14:35Rest here at the garden entrance while I pray.
14:45Please, I ache in my heart and in my soul.
14:50Stay here.
14:52Keep watch while I pray.
14:59We might as well be comfortable on our watch.
15:16Father, all things are possible to you.
15:20Take this cup from me.
15:25Yet, not what I will, but what you will.
15:46The End
16:05Monkey!
16:08Huh? What? I didn't do it!
16:10Didn't do what?
16:11Anything! Whatever you're thinking, it wasn't me!
16:15Just bad manners, that's all.
16:17You fell asleep during Mark's story.
16:19Oh, I'm sorry, but...
16:21But you were tired.
16:23Derek and Margo told me you've traveled far.
16:26That's the truth, for sure.
16:28Well, then, Monkey, you're no worse than the Apostle Peter himself.
16:32He fell asleep, too, right here in this same garden
16:35when he was supposed to be keeping watch over Jesus.
16:38He did?
16:39Yes.
16:40But when Jesus returned from his prayers and woke him,
16:43Jesus was gentle with him.
16:47Oh, Peter, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
16:52I'm sorry, Master, I...
16:55Enough.
16:57The hour has come.
16:59The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
17:02No, Lord!
17:05Soundly.
17:08You said he'd be here. Where is he?
17:11In the garden. Follow me.
17:13The one I kiss is the one you want.
17:16Lead him off safely.
17:18Yes, yes, get on with it!
17:25My betrayer comes.
17:27Master! Master!
17:35Judas!
17:36Take him!
17:42Stand back!
17:47No, Peter, put your sword away.
17:50He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.
17:54Don't you know that I could ask God for twelve legions of angels
17:58and they'd come and save me?
18:00But how, then, could the scriptures be fulfilled?
18:05Take him to the high priest for trial.
18:12THE HIGH PRIEST
18:23Speak! Speak!
18:26Answer the charges against you!
18:29Say something!
18:32Bring in another witness.
18:36Another false witness?
18:38Yes, I heard the prisoner clearly say
18:41he'd destroy the temple we built with our own hands
18:44and in three days he'd put up another made without hands.
18:53Well, what say you to that?
18:59I have one more question which I know you must answer.
19:03Are you Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?
19:08I am.
19:09And you shall see me sitting on the right hand of power
19:14and coming in the clouds of heaven.
19:18Blasphemy!
19:22We need no further witnesses. What say you?
19:25Guilty! Guilty!
19:27Death to the blasphemer!
19:31They just found him guilty. Sentenced to death.
19:34Who?
19:35Jesus, the prophet.
19:37You know, you were one of those who followed him, weren't you?
19:40Oh, no. I don't know him at all.
19:44I'm sure I saw you leading him into the city last Sunday.
19:48You've got me confused with someone else.
19:51I've never even seen the man. Excuse me.
19:55Halt!
19:56Sure you're one of them.
19:58They all speak with the accent of a Galilean, like you.
20:01I've told you all. I don't know him.
20:04Let me pass.
20:08Truly, I say to you,
20:11this very night before the cock crows twice,
20:14you will deny me three times.
20:21Oh, the poor man.
20:23Oh, the poor man.
20:25Yes, he had indeed done the unthinkable,
20:28exactly as Jesus had foreseen.
20:30But the others all ran away.
20:32I wouldn't have done that.
20:34That's true. At least Peter took a risk and followed after Jesus.
20:38Right. He was the only one who could be questioned.
20:41Sure. He said he wasn't one of the disciples,
20:44but only so he could save himself.
20:46And you know what else? I think Jesus knew that all along.
20:50Come on. What happened next?
20:52Yes, please go on.
20:55Well, the disciple who betrayed Jesus
20:58was, of course, Judas Iscariot.
21:01Oh, I don't like that guy.
21:03Judas heard that Jesus had been sentenced to die.
21:06Listen to me, please.
21:08Ah, the betrayer.
21:10Don't tell me you've come for more money.
21:13You won't get it.
21:15No. I have sinned and betrayed innocent blood.
21:19Innocent? Ha!
21:21You should have known.
21:23How much was it we paid him exactly?
21:25Just 30 pieces of silver.
21:28Well, you got yours, Judas.
21:31Take it. Take all of it.
21:34The money is cursed.
21:43The man known as Pontius Pilate,
21:45the Roman governor of Jerusalem,
21:47was the only man who could order
21:49the death sentence to be carried out.
21:51He could also prevent it.
21:53The earthly life of Jesus was in his very weak hands.
21:57So, tell me, are you the king of the Jews?
22:01You have said it.
22:03Look here, fellow.
22:05Do you understand what they're charging you with?
22:07How am I to decide what to do with you?
22:11Pilate! Pilate!
22:13Where is he? Pilate!
22:15That's those jealous priests who condemned you.
22:18But the people like you.
22:20Your entrance into the city on Sunday
22:22was quite a triumph, I hear.
22:24Wait a moment.
22:26Pilate had an idea.
22:28Each year at Passover,
22:30it was the practice to release one prisoner.
22:32He would give the crowd a choice.
22:34Release Jesus or a murderer named Barabbas.
22:39Pilate was certain the crowd would choose Jesus.
22:42He was wrong.
22:44Tell him! Barabbas! We want Barabbas!
22:47Get us Barabbas!
22:50Barabbas! Tell him!
22:52Barabbas! Barabbas!
22:54The people have spoken.
22:56Free Barabbas!
22:58Barabbas! Barabbas! Barabbas!
23:03Well, I wash my hands.
23:06Well, I wash my hands from the whole thing.
23:10He could have stopped it.
23:12Why didn't he?
23:14He wanted to satisfy the crowd.
23:16That was his excuse, Derek.
23:18But nothing could have stopped it.
23:20It was the son of God's mission to die for us all.
23:23And to rise again.
23:25As proof that in his death
23:27we have forgiveness of our sins.
23:29What follows is painful.
23:31But the ending.
23:33The ending is blessed above all things.
24:03Come back.
24:34Father.
24:36Forgive them.
24:38For they know not what they do.
24:41Who wants his robe?
24:43Let's pray for it.
24:45It's mine.
24:47My God.
24:49My God.
24:51Why have you forsaken me?
25:04It's the end of the world!
25:24Father.
25:26Into your hands
25:28I commend my spirit.
25:33It is finished.
25:48Truly, this man was the son of God.
25:53Even now his people are putting his body in a tomb.
25:57We're certain in the dead of night
25:59they'll steal it out and claim he's fulfilled his promise.
26:02His promise to rise from the dead within three days.
26:06So?
26:08If they stole the body and told the people he rose from the dead
26:12that deception would be worse than the first.
26:15We've got to prevent them from getting anywhere near him.
26:21Oh, I see.
26:23Very well.
26:25You may have your guards.
26:27Seal the tomb.
26:39There.
26:41Now we stand guard so nobody gets in or out.
26:51Three days later after the Sabbath
26:54the angels were on their way to the tomb at dawn when...
27:04What is it? What's happening?
27:14Look.
27:16Fear not.
27:18The angel of the Lord has rolled away the stone.
27:21The Jesus who was crucified is not here.
27:24He is risen.
27:28Look.
27:29See the place where they laid him.
27:32Oh, I see.
27:35I see.
27:38For 40 days thereafter
27:40he presented himself to many people throughout Judea.
27:51Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
28:09Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
28:12Go forth to every part of the world, and tell the good news to everyone, I am the Christ.
28:26And you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
28:42For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
29:01Alleluia! Alleluia!
29:16Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
