00:00that you would produce again.
00:01I don't think I can, I...
00:03Maybe it's time for a little impulsive behavior for a change, Dawson.
00:10You're a woman and you're laughing, and the next year you're in tears.
00:13I'm fine, Jack.
00:14Maybe it's time you went back on your medication.
00:17My mother and my sister, they depend on me to be the rock, me.
00:21I understand, I just wish she'd let me help you.
00:23I can't believe you're saying this.
00:32I mean, after all these years of hiding behind highbrow analytical posturing.
00:36I'm saying it.
00:39I love you.
00:42I know it's nonsensical.
00:43Nonsensical?
00:44It's insane.
00:45We've known each other for 15 years.
00:47You couldn't find some other time to frody and slip this cat out of the bag?
00:50I've wanted to.
00:52So many times.
00:53You have no idea how long I've been wrestling internally with the psychological repercussions
00:58of my feelings.
00:59I need some process.
01:01I mean, my electrical synapses are on overload here.
01:06My brain is telling me one thing, but my heart, it says another.
01:11It's telling me that I should consider the unequivocal, highly irrational, possibly damaging
01:18proposition of loving.
01:21I'm asking you back.
01:23Right.
01:32You missed a line.
01:33You forgot hypnotically scarring.
01:35So if you want it done right, you get an actor.
01:37I'm not exactly comfortable playing the girl here.
01:39So what do you think?
01:41I mean, do you think I'm going to make a good movie?
01:46You write too many syllables.
01:47I mean, what's with all this psychobabble inside?
01:49How many teenagers do you know that talk like that?
01:51Syllables aside, do you think I'm going to make a good movie?
01:55Yeah.
01:56Yeah.
01:57However, you did make Joey a little bit on the angry side, even for her.
02:02It's not Joey.
02:04Right.
02:04That's not Joey.
02:05The guy's not you, and you're not dissecting you two's relationship on the page, just like
02:09every other narcissistic writer through history.
02:13Just tell me what you think.
02:16I think it's dark.
02:17It's obtuse.
02:19It's very un-Dawson Leary.
02:26This is the first time I've been able to write something that's not just plot driven,
02:30but also emotionally driven.
02:33Congratulations.
02:34You're evolving as an artist.
02:36Oh, it's about time I took some risks, you know?
02:39Ride the edge a little.
02:41Well, if that's the case, I do have one note.
02:45Which is?
02:48Why don't they have sex?
02:49I mean, I know you and Joey never did in real life, but this is a film.
02:52You can write it any way you want.
02:55You know, take the risky plunge.
02:56Oh, see, I have.
02:58How many movies do you see where a bunch of horny teenagers just go at it like rabbits?
03:03Huh?
03:04I mean, that's the safe choice.
03:06The risky, edgier choice is to have them not do it.
03:10Only you take your virginal insecurities and your fear of deflowerment and turn them into
03:15risky, edgy behaviors.
03:17I have no problem being a virgin.
03:20I'm sorry if my confidence and my convictions discombobulate you.
03:26Discombobulate?
03:28How many syllables is that?
03:47My life is a journey around, around.
03:53Every voice inside my head is telling me to run like mad.
04:01Oh, poles and arrows, stars and sunsets.
04:06Hey, hey, hey, yeah.
04:08Hey, hey, hey, yeah.
04:10Every heartbeat, every kiss just makes me wonder what all this is.
04:18Suits of armor, hearts and arrows.
04:23Hey, hey, hey, yeah.
04:25And if I can't make it, it's buried as a second nature calling out when you fall.
04:43We're holding auditions for a movie today.
04:45I hope you can make it.
04:47Hey.
04:47Hey, you.
04:48So how's interest?
04:49Are we going to have a turnout?
04:50It's the first time, producer.
04:52My instincts tell me that we're going to have a huge turnout, Dawson.
04:56Cool.
04:56Hey, uh, we're holding auditions for a movie today.
04:59Come on by, all right?
05:00You're such a natural.
05:00You're so good at this.
05:01Oh, thanks.
05:03Don't expect too much.
05:04I mean, I've known Joey.
05:06Please.
05:07She had no experience either when she first started.
05:10You are going to be great.
05:11I mean, utmost confidence.
05:14Well, thank you.
05:16Mr. Writer slash director.
05:18Hey, be sure to get a flyer to James Lowell.
05:19He did a perfect movie.
05:20Ew.
05:22Ew.
05:24He's like the classic leading guy.
05:26He's kind, he's funny, he's self-effacing, he's like Jimmy Stewart meets Tom Hanks.
05:32Yeah, and about as sexy as a bucket, Dawson.
05:37Thanks.
05:39And Dave Fichelli, that's the leading man.
05:40Excuse me?
05:42Yeah, he's, like, dark and brooding and, you know, he's, like, all over the place.
05:48Ray Liotta meets sewer rat.
05:51No way.
05:52I'm just saying he's got a certain appeal.
05:57I mean, people don't necessarily go to the movies to see their kind, sweet next door neighbor.
06:02They go to see that slightly dangerous guy that they desperately want to sleep with,
06:07but never will in real life.
06:09Sexy will always win out overnight.
06:12I'm just saying that everybody casts Tom Hanks, you know?
06:16Try and make less obvious jokes.
06:20Hey, movie auditions today.
06:33Hey, what's this?
06:36Results of Paisley Whitter's HIV test.
06:40You got tested?
06:42You told me to.
06:44But you argued with me.
06:45Andy, I always argue with you.
06:47It doesn't mean I don't listen.
06:50And?
06:52And it's negative.
06:53Just positive in my book.
06:55Congratulations.
06:57I'm proud of you.
06:58Getting tested was very responsible of you.
07:04I just don't think that, you know, now that you got tested that, um, we're going to, you know.
07:13What?
07:14You know.
07:16No, I have no idea what you're talking about.
07:20Okay, um, you know, we haven't been very, um, physical or anything.
07:26And, um, I'm not opposed to us becoming more intimate.
07:31But I just want you to know that everything's done perfectly in time, okay?
07:35I didn't get tested to engage in any uninhibited scrumping with you.
07:39I got tested for me.
07:41I don't want to jump in the sack with you.
07:43Oh.
07:44Well, why not exactly?
07:46I mean, did you not find me attractive?
07:49Of course I find you attractive, Andy.
07:52But you don't want to.
07:56Do you want to?
07:59I asked you.
08:00Well, I'm asking you back.
08:04You first.
08:08I'd like to scrump with you any day of the week, okay?
08:11But we don't have all the time in the world, so I don't need to rush into anything.
08:16I know.
08:17I hear you, and I concur.
08:21Good.
08:22Good.
08:24But if it were the right time and place, you would want to, right?
08:28Oh, hell yes.
08:30Okay.
08:31Good.
08:32Until then.
08:35Damn.
08:41Hey.
08:42Hey.
08:43Movie auditions.
08:45Art class.
08:49I see you graduated from Fruitballs.
08:52We're doing life sketching and models.
08:54We're supposed to see the human form as a mess of lines and shadows.
08:59Really?
09:01I'm working on it.
09:03I need your poses for you.
09:05Yeah.
09:06Did you find that uncomfortable?
09:08I mean, just sitting in a room with some guy completely in the buff right in front of you.
09:12No.
09:14Does he, like, talk or anything?
09:16Oh, yeah.
09:17He sings, tells jokes, does a little soft shit.
09:20No, he doesn't talk to us.
09:21And he's a model.
09:22He sits there.
09:23He just takes breaks every now and then.
09:27And little Joyapodder doesn't blush?
09:30No.
09:32Not even a little?
09:35Maybe a little.
09:37Just a little?
09:38Okay, I've broken 12 pencils, but it's getting better.
09:42You'd be surprised, Austin.
09:43I'm changing.
09:43I'm not little Joyapodder anymore.
09:47I know you're struggling, but I'm...
09:55Auditions.
09:57Come.
09:59Please.
10:00I'm your producer.
10:02Auditions today.
10:03Huh?
10:04Huh.
10:04Three o'clock.
10:05Three o'clock.
10:05Three o'clock.
10:07Three o'clock.
10:08Very busy.
10:13So what's your movie about?
10:15Um...
10:19Young boy, comes of age in a small town.
10:23Well, good luck with it, Austin.
10:25Yeah, gotta go.
10:26Time is funny.
10:33Hey.
10:35Are you gonna audition for Dawson's movie?
10:37Participate in Dawson Leary's lame home video project?
10:40Don't fool me.
10:41Why are you?
10:42I was thinking about it.
10:44I got the audition piece.
10:45I was looking through it.
10:47He's got financing.
10:48He's gonna do the festival circuit.
10:50Be an opportunity for some Hollywood type exposure.
10:53Yeah, right.
10:54Are you having delusions of Brad Kutaitis?
10:57I think I'd make a pretty good actor, actually.
11:00An actor is good action, and I foresee a non-stop partying.
11:04I was thinking maybe you and I could read together.
11:07You and me?
11:08Nah, come on.
11:09I'll get us some serious chemistry.
11:12Come on, audition with me.
11:14Salivate elsewhere.
11:16I couldn't be less interested.
11:24Wow.
11:26Don't look.
11:28Oh, I've seen a naked guy before, Joey.
11:31Yeah, but not John with the talent of a second grader.
11:33Trust me, I'm doing your eyes a favor.
11:37Wow.
11:39It's good use of light and dark, especially around the thigh.
11:41I mean, it's very dramatic.
11:43Shading's excellent.
11:46Really?
11:47Yeah.
11:48Lines are strong.
11:50Everything seems to be in proportion.
11:55Did a real nice job.
11:57Oh, God, Joey, I'm sorry.
11:59I'm sorry.
12:01I'm sorry.
12:01I gotta go.
12:03I can't believe you're saying this.
12:05After all these years of hiding behind highbrow, analytical possuming.
12:11I love you.
12:12I know it's nonsensical.
12:14Nonsensical?
12:15It's insane.
12:16We've known each other for 15 years.
12:18Somewhere in there you couldn't find the time.
12:20I've wanted to so many times, but you don't know how long I've wrestled internally with
12:26the psychological repercussions of my feelings.
12:32You don't know how long I've been struggling internally with my psychological reproductions.
12:39But my heart says something different.
12:41That I should consider the unequivocal, possibly damaging, highly irrational,
12:47hypnotically scarring proposition of loving you back.
12:55Come on.
13:12Listen, I'm sorry.
13:14Can you save it?
13:18Oh, God.
13:20All right, look, I'm sorry.
13:22I mean, can I do anything?
13:24What?
13:24There's nothing you can do, Jack.
13:26It's due Thursday.
13:27I'm already the youngest and the least experienced in the class,
13:30and now I'm going to show up with an incomplete assignment.
13:32Can you redraw it?
13:34Not from memory.
13:35I mean, this is a nude man, Jack.
13:37I can't just recall it from thin air.
13:39I mean, the pose, the composition, the light, the shadows.
13:46I can't just recreate that.
13:50Um, let me pose for you.
13:55What?
13:56Yeah, no, I'm serious.
13:57Let me pose for you.
13:58No big deal.
13:59You want to pose for me naked?
14:02Uh-huh, yeah.
14:03Um, let me think about that.
14:07No.
14:10Okay.
14:12Okay, what happens if you don't turn it in?
14:14Look, I get an F.
14:15Not to mention embarrassment and feelings of tremendous inadequacy.
14:19All right, then that's it.
14:20I'm posing for you.
14:21No, you're not.
14:22You freak about seeing me naked?
14:24Uh, the joys of prude tactic.
14:27Clever, but wrong.
14:28All right, well, then what is it?
14:30I mean, you're scared I might get sexual or something?
14:34No.
14:35Believe it or not, Jack,
14:36not every moment with you is sexually charged.
14:39Sorry.
14:41Well, then there should be no problem.
14:43Come on, look, I feel awful about this.
14:45I don't want you to fail your first art project because of me,
14:47so let me help you.
14:49You're serious, aren't you?
14:50I'm dead serious.
14:51I have a huge guilt about things like this.
14:54So don't feel weird because...
14:56I don't...
14:59I don't know, Jack.
15:00I don't think this is a good thing for us.
15:02We should...
15:03Strictly professional, okay?
15:04Come on, Joey, this is your art.
15:10I guess the male form is just the male form.
15:12Good, it's settled.
15:13We'll buy your house tomorrow around seven.
15:19Yeah.
15:21So...
15:46There you go, miss.
15:48Careful with the dosage.
15:49I put a pamphlet in there for you.
15:51I'm familiar with the drug, thank you.
15:55Hello, McPhee, what's shaking?
15:56Hey, Pheecy, hi.
15:59What you got in the bag?
16:00Uh, nothing.
16:02Hey, uh, Pheecy, please, just give it back.
16:06Andrea McPhee, take two tablets daily as directed.
16:10Xanax, 20 milligrams.
16:12Xanax, that's, uh...
16:14That's for severe depression and anxiety, right?
16:18It's like Prozac, so...
16:20Uh, it's my mom, so we have the same first name, Andrea.
16:24God.
16:24Um, please, Pheecy, you know I'm sincere about her.
16:27Yeah, I'm really sorry, I didn't know.
16:29Oh, God.
16:30It's okay.
16:32You're such a good daughter.
16:37So what are you doing here?
16:39Nothing, just picking up some stuff.
16:44In the, uh, condom section?
16:47I don't know, it's...
16:50I had no idea.
16:51It's very odd, don't you think?
16:52I mean, you don't think this is a sign, like, the love gods are trying to help us out, or...
16:58Uh, no, I think that would be you.
17:01I'm just engaging in a little innuendo in the hopes that maybe someday it'll lead to
17:05something a little more tangible.
17:08Hey, I mean, I'm all for discovering the, uh, physical side of Pheecy,
17:16or I just don't know that I'm entirely prepared yet.
17:20Well, please, be prepared.
17:26Hey, look, designed for that woman's extra pleasure.
17:32Yeah, how would they know?
17:35I mean, maybe they're designed by women.
17:38Oh, good point.
17:43So, uh, should we get some?
17:46What?
17:49Well, I mean, you're right.
17:50We should be prepared, in case that mood strikes, and, um, we'll be ready.
17:58Are you being serious?
18:00It's not a bad idea to have them on standby.
18:03I mean, we can be adults about this.
18:07You're serious?
18:09Isn't there anyone else I can read with?
18:11I mean, we're short on time.
18:12If you could just start at page three, that'd be great.
18:15Sure, Dawson, but can I just ask a quick question?
18:18What is it, Chris?
18:20I just, I don't understand why they don't ever do it.
18:23I mean, you have all the hot foreplay stuff, but they never hook up, right?
18:29Well, see, your character believes that sometimes true love goes beyond that,
18:33which is merely physical.
18:36Yeah, see, that's just the part I don't get.
18:39Yeah, you know what, Dawson?
18:40I think you should rethink that part.
18:42It's a little heady.
18:43You know what, you guys?
18:45Why don't we just keep moving with the scene, okay?
18:52I've wanted to.
18:56So many times.
18:59You don't know how long I've wrestled internally
19:01with the psychological repercussions of my feelings.
19:04I need some time to process here.
19:07My electrical synapses are on overload.
19:09My brain says one thing, but my heart says something else
19:13that I should consider the unequivocal, possibly damaging,
19:16highly irrational, hypnotically scarring proposition of loving you back.
19:27What the hell was that, you lug-neck freak?
19:29A kiss.
19:31It's in the script.
19:33That was your tongue in my mouth.
19:36Sorry, I was just getting into the role.
19:38You were trying to get into my pants.
19:39God, you can be sick.
19:43I'm sorry.
19:48Shall I continue?
19:50That'll be all.
19:53I've put lots of fantasy thought into this,
19:55and I want my first time to be special.
19:59You know, the perfect evening.
20:02Like dinner at a French restaurant,
20:04a romantic after-dinner stroll by the dock,
20:09and then on to a nice, historic bed and breakfast.
20:13A bed and breakfast?
20:14It's my fantasy.
20:16Go with it.
20:17Lavender candles and Sinatra,
20:20or somebody equally as old-style and romantic.
20:25Okay.
20:27Scheduling bathroom breaks?
20:28Does the poor guy have to hold it all evening?
20:32Okay, I'm sorry, but deciding to lose my virginity is a huge deal, okay?
20:38I mean, I didn't hold on to it for 16 years
20:40just to lose it in one drunk, fleeting moment
20:43in some skanky backseat of a late-model American car, okay?
20:48Damn.
20:49You know, I suppose they can all my best love making secrets.
20:54It's just that I'm gonna remember this for the rest of my life.
21:00And I just think that if we put a little planning into it
21:03to ensure that it's worth remembering,
21:05it would be really nice.
21:09See, I know how important first time is,
21:12believe me, of all people I know.
21:15And I know with my tainted past,
21:18I might not be the most likely of candidates,
21:21but if and when you do decide it's the right time for you,
21:25I'd really like to be the one that helps you make it a memorable evening.
21:32Well, when you talk like that,
21:35it makes me want to jump you.
21:37I'm so frustrated to have this dream of making this movie,
22:05to actually get the money to make the movie,
22:07and then realize that it still might not happen.
22:12Just like in the script.
22:18I remember Joey.
22:21You know, you're in love with her for 15 years,
22:23and then when you're just about to have her, you lose her.
22:29Tragic.
22:30The script's not about Joey.
22:34Dawson, give me a break.
22:35It reads like an autobiography.
22:39It's funny.
22:40I thought that we had something, too,
22:43but even with my flair for the dramatic,
22:46my role's been reduced in the first act.
22:49Chad, you were important to me.
22:55Was I?
22:58Absolutely.
23:02More than you know.
23:03Well, then I want to ask you something, Dawson.
23:08Since we're friends and all,
23:15what did you like about me?
23:18What did I like about you?
23:21We had fun together, you know?
23:24I mean, you opened up to stuff.
23:29Skinny to me didn't suck, you know?
23:31Yeah, but you were...
23:34You were sexy.
23:38Were?
23:39Are.
23:40Are.
23:46You know, I think that Chris and Abby are right about your script.
23:51I think that the two young lovers should do it.
23:55It's about romance, not sex.
23:58Who says that sex can't be romantic, Dawson?
24:01Come on, I mean, look at your target audience.
24:03I wanted to make the less obvious choice.
24:08That's funny when you think about it.
24:10What?
24:13Just that if you hadn't gone for such an obvious choice of girl,
24:18maybe the ending to your script would have been a little less obvious.
24:28Oh, I'm coming out, man.
24:49Um, check and feed reporting for duty.
25:02Where do you want me?
25:04Um, you could sit on the couch or the chair or you could stand or I could move.
25:09Oh, why don't I just take a couch?
25:13Okay.
25:15You know, Joey, if you're uncomfortable at all,
25:18I can, you know, keep the towel on for a while just until we get loosened up and,
25:22you know, you can kind of sketch around it.
25:28Check. I'm fine.
25:29You know, whatever.
25:33Okay.
25:40You know what?
25:41You're probably right.
25:42Maybe that maybe the towel is a good idea.
25:44I mean, it'll give me a chance to concentrate on the top part.
26:02This is just like that scene from Titanic.
26:06All right.
26:07Yeah.
26:08Except I'm Jack and you're Rose.
26:12Well, we were so, I like it.
26:24Look, Joe, if you're not going to make it, we can, we can stop this at any time.
26:27You know, um, maybe if we just didn't talk, um, the model in class kind of just sat and
26:33stared out the window and, you know, since we are just starting to get to know each other,
26:39I just, I'll admit I, it has made me slightly uncomfortable.
26:45Just imagine how comfortable we're going to be around each other after tonight.
26:55You know what, Jack?
26:56Um, I can't do this.
26:57Um, you know, I, I just don't think this is a good idea.
27:01I mean, I've tried to be adult about this and not behave like little Joey Potter,
27:06but the truth is, you know, I'm really not that experienced with, um, a lot of things.
27:11And I really don't think I can handle seeing you naked right now.
27:15So if you could probably just get dressed and go home, that would.
27:19What about your stitch?
27:20You know, I'll figure out some way to fudge it.
27:22Are you sure?
27:23Yes, I'm sure.
27:36Well, um, might as well stay now.
28:06So, uh, how's it look?
28:14Good.
28:17Oh, it's coming along fine.
28:19Sorry.
28:21How are you doing?
28:23Surprisingly well.
28:25You know, no sign of heart failure, so.
28:31It's actually, it's, it's okay.
28:34It feels kind of.
28:38Natural?
28:41Sort of.
28:42It's more like an accomplishment.
28:44I don't know, this is something that most people would just assume that Joey could not do.
28:51What's that?
28:52I mean, you see how I live.
28:53I don't get out much.
28:55I don't know, I guess my life just seems kind of plain sometimes.
29:01Does it bother you?
29:02Uh, yeah, sometimes.
29:09The good thing that I've discovered about this whole art thing
29:13is that it allows me to take chances, you know?
29:16I mean, this here is risky.
29:18Art is risky because, you know, every time I draw or paint or take a class, I just.
29:26I feel like I'm doing something special.
29:30You know, just for me.
29:32Does that make sense?
29:37It feels dangerous.
29:40Yeah.
29:41Yeah.
29:43Why is that?
29:46Art is about a world of uncertainty.
29:50And that makes it scary.
29:57And what scares you?
30:01Sex.
30:32Capture me, capture me.
30:37Then will I be free?
30:42Hide me, hide me.
30:45In the shadow of my own brain.
31:02My sex, I'm in fear of it, there's some anxiety.
31:09Oh, no, no, I'm not a virgin.
31:13Oh.
31:16So, um, have you done it a lot?
31:23Well, I've done it a total of, um,
31:30once.
31:31Well, all I know is I'm really lucky to have you for a friend.
31:40I never could have gotten to those horrifically epic auditions today.
31:46It's my job.
31:48No, and it's, that's above and beyond the call of duty.
31:50I mean, God,
31:53there's lines written so many times, I hope they come out of memory.
31:57Well, the good thing is, if you get really desperate, I could always play your leading lady.
32:02Yeah.
32:04Maybe you should have.
32:08Should have what?
32:12Be my leading lady.
32:18You think?
32:20Sometimes.
32:25Too much of the time.
32:27Was it scary?
32:28Yeah.
32:32Don't feel bad, I mean, I haven't done it at all, and it terrifies me from afar, so.
32:39You know, it's not just that it was scary.
32:44I mean, that was part of it, but
32:48I don't, I don't know, it's hard to,
32:52it's hard to describe, you know, you know, I'm not really that good at expressing myself,
32:57you know, and so you've, I guess you've found my, my social flaw.
33:01Did you try?
33:09I know that you got this notion that if you, if you don't let your characters act on their
33:16desires, then you're making a stronger, riskier choice, but that's not real life.
33:22But it's so obvious, I mean,
33:26the story is much stronger if the characters resist their lust.
33:30But it's not real.
33:32True love is always fueled by lust.
33:35And people who care that much about each other will sooner or later end up having sex.
33:41Even people who don't care that much.
33:46And besides, this is 1998, sex is always a risky choice.
33:52I just don't happen to believe that it's an obvious one.
33:55I think that intent and motive is what makes sex so interesting, Dawson.
34:07I mean, why do two people have sex?
34:09Okay, uh, so they're in love.
34:11That's obvious, who cares?
34:15But they're in lust?
34:19Slightly more interesting.
34:21They're hurting over someone, they're in pain, trying to forget someone, they're in denial.
34:33They're looking for a distraction.
34:37All of a sudden, sex has just become very interesting.
34:41And not the obvious choice at all.
34:51Maybe you should think about a rewrite, Dawson.
34:56You've still got time.
35:11Really? You want to know?
35:14Yeah.
35:16I mean, not the great details, just...
35:21I don't know the feeling of it.
35:26Maybe you could describe it as if it were art?
35:32Well, at first it's all a jumble of emotions.
35:39It's hard to pinpoint.
35:43It's kind of like expressionistic painting.
35:47But, you know, if you get comfortable with it,
35:52it's like the first time you see Van Gogh's Starry Night.
35:58It's the same sky you've always seen, but everything is different.
36:10Bigger.
36:14More passionate.
36:17The blues, the yellows, the swirling stars.
36:25Everything has feeling.
36:29Movement.
36:33Even the colors seem alive.
36:37It's like lying on Monet's water lilies.
36:42It's the warmth of a Georgia O'Keeffe flower wrapped around you,
36:49feeling everything so intensely.
36:56It's the power and strength of a Degas dancer.
37:00It's a passion of munchies, of screaming.
37:12Where are we?
37:25Just wait.
37:28Pacey, you're scaring me.
37:30Where have you taken me?
37:32Well, we just ate at Petit Le Bistro.
37:34Then we went for a stroll along the docks.
37:38Ah, blindfolded, I might add.
37:41So think about it.
37:42There's only one place we could be right now, isn't there?
37:48Pacey, um, if I take off this blindfold and we're standing in a bed and breakfast,
37:52you're dead.
37:55Well, dispose of my remains now.
38:02Oh, oh, Pacey.
38:06God, um, I don't know whether to be touched or terrified.
38:15Hey, listen, you know, this night was not designed to reach the verdict of doing it.
38:22I just, I wanted to give you your fantasy evening, you know,
38:24a French dinner, stroll along the docks, bed and breakfast, romantic music.
38:31We can save doing it for another time.
38:36This is a step-by-step process for me, too.
38:42Oh, Pacey, um...
38:45What? What's wrong?
38:49I, I really want to do this.
38:51I mean, I'd be lying if I said I didn't.
38:57And you're really special to me.
39:02But, um, I, I don't, I don't think I'm ready for this right now.
39:07I mean, there's so much that's going on that you don't know about
39:10and that I can't even begin to tell you.
39:12And, um, I, I, I can't do this.
39:15I'm, I'm sorry, Macy, I can't do this.
39:17It's okay, it's okay.
39:18Why? Don't worry, it's not a big deal.
39:22I told you, we can wait.
39:25I mean, honestly, I think I brought you here tonight as much for me as for you.
39:32I just wanted to give you a fantasy evening, you know, so...
39:36But please don't be upset with me.
39:38I, you have no idea what you've done for me just by being in my life.
39:42I mean, you make me feel like maybe there's hope for my pathetic existence.
39:51And I don't have to sleep with you to feel that.
39:55I feel it right now.
39:58Just holding you in my arms.
40:01I, God, I'm so lucky.
40:08You know what, Winter?
40:10What?
40:11You make me want to do it.
40:31But the meaning's not clear.
40:35Cause I can turn into what you most fear.
40:40I must be driving you crazy.
40:46Breathlessly, recklessly playing the game.
40:51To stop and to back down and try to explain.
41:00But oh, oh, I refuse to let myself fall.
41:13Oh, oh, I must be driving you crazy.
41:29Listen, I'm really sorry.
41:36Listen, Jack, it's okay.
41:38You know, don't worry about it.
41:39Stuff happens.
41:41Although not usually that kind of stuff.
41:43And usually not in the powder living room.
41:45But I didn't think it'd be such a big deal for me to pose for you.
41:48Yeah, well...
41:52Listen, um, is this gonna screw things up with us?
41:56What do you mean?
41:59Well, I mean, I didn't want to bring sex into this evening.
42:01You know, all I wanted to do was help you.
42:04I don't want you to think because of all this stuff.
42:12Here we go again.
42:12Social flaw.
42:13You know, let's be honest with ourselves.
42:15I mean, yes, we both came in here with the noblest of intentions.
42:20But, you know, at the end of the day, we're both human.
42:24And there's something between us that's, you know, it's...
42:36Is your social flaw contagious?
42:39Yeah, I was so naive to think that this was a good idea.
42:43No, I take full responsibility for this evening's turn of events.
42:46I mean, it was my fault.
42:47I asked to hear it.
42:51That's true.
42:53Actually, I think it was your fault.
43:01No, it's just that, um, I don't know.
43:06Tonight was a big step in the life of little Joey Potter.
43:12She didn't feel so little tonight.
43:14And I guess I just tried to bite off a tad too much.
43:20I mean, you were curious.
43:23Yeah.
43:26For all the big words and not wanting to hear the gory details, I guess.
43:30I'm just wrestling with my hormones like everyone else.
43:37Well, um, you know, if you ever want to, uh, explore your curiosity, I'm available.
43:49At first, you're a model, and now you're a tour guide.
43:55Well, I'm just a guy who finds it really hard not to want to hold you.
44:06And touch you.
44:10And I didn't really realize that until tonight when it was completely forbidden.
44:19Well, now you have your clothes on now.
44:25You're saying it's not forbidden?
44:28No, I'm just saying it's, um, it's not as scary.
44:36Gee, thanks.
44:39Oh, you know what I mean.
44:43I think that, um, two scared people cancel each other out.
44:53Meaning?
44:55Meaning that tonight was a night of firsts.
45:01And there's no reason that has to stop.
45:12Darling, you're leaving me weak.
45:19I can't keep what's before me.
45:23And laugh at the thought of sleep.
45:27Oh, leave your lamp on high.
45:30That's the only reason why that I do the things I do.
45:38I'm sorry.
45:45Todd, what are you doing here?
45:52I've been thinking about what you said about motive and intent.
45:56Love versus hurt versus lost versus distraction.
46:01And?
46:07Don't ask my motive.
46:19I know about it.
46:34You're not going to believe this.
46:37Frankly, I don't really believe it.
46:39But I don't want to do this.
46:46Yeah, I said that out loud, right?
46:48You don't want to?
46:50Uh, no, no, I do.
46:54God, do I.
46:55But so?
46:57So for once, Pacey Witter's raging hormones aren't going to do all the talking.
47:04For once, I'm going to do the right thing.
47:07And we're not ready for this, Andy.
47:12But I might be ready, and...
47:14Listen, at the risk of sounding like a really cheesy after-school special,
47:19when you're really ready, you'll know.
47:22And then we'll do this.
47:23I mean, then we'll do this till the cows come home.
47:27But this thing is way too important for me to just fall back on an old,
47:31to-now-think-later Pacey Witter approach.
47:34You want to know what the really risky thing for me to do is?
47:37It's to not have sex.
47:40I mean, maybe that way I'll have some semblance of a real relationship.
47:45So...
47:51You take all the time you need.
47:55Because I'll be here.
48:04There you go again, Pacey.
48:07It's making me want to do it even more.
48:10It's all part of my evil plan.
48:18It is a year...
48:20Come on.
48:21Time to have the honor.
48:23Takes my breath away.
48:26All the things you have said.
48:30And nights that shouldn't ever stay.
48:34It's a year.
48:37It's a year.
48:40Darling, it's a year.
48:47Darling, it's a year.
48:54Darling, it's a year.
48:59Let's go home.
49:10It's a year.
49:13It's a year.
49:17It's a year.
49:21It's a year.
49:24It's a year.
49:26It's a year, it's a year, it's a year, it's a...
49:56It's a year, it's a year, it's a year, it's a...
