00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann and today we're going to be talking about the new dopamine
00:05menu TikTok trend. Now normally I would be coming on here to debunk a health TikTok trend
00:11that could have dangerous consequences, however the dopamine menu TikTok trend is really wholesome
00:18and it's one I can definitely get behind. The concept of a dopamine menu was first made popular
00:25in 2020 by Jessica McCabe who runs the YouTube channel HowToADHD. Dopamine is a hormone and
00:33neurotransmitter that's often described as the happy hormone. A dopamine menu offers a
00:40structured way to build in little moments of joy in your day. This can be something really simple
00:46or something big and grand. Content creators on TikTok have really got behind the trend
00:52sharing videos on the platform of dopamine menus that they have created in order to help them from
00:58resorting to doom scrolling on social media. Creating your own dopamine menu couldn't be
01:05easier. To do this all you have to do is simply visualize or think of what a restaurant menu would
01:11look like. The starter section is where you would place simple things that can bring you quick
01:17moments of joy. This could be cuddling your pet or dancing to your favorite song in the kitchen.
01:23For me this is the biggest chunk so think about activities that would take up the most of your time
01:28from listening to a podcast, going for a walk, going for a swim, doing an exercise class. This would be
01:36the thing that would be the bulk of your dopamine menu. Sides are something that you can add to any
01:42daily activity such as listening to music while you're making the bed, listen to a podcast while
01:48you're doing the dishes, lighting a candle while you're folding laundry. There's lots of little
01:52ways that you can incorporate joy in everyday moments. The dessert section is where you can do
01:59things that make you feel really good but you don't get to do all the time. This could be having a
02:03dinner date, going to the cinema or having a drink with friends. And the final category of your dopamine
02:09menu is specials. These are big things that you don't get to do often that bring you lots of joy.
02:16This can be going for a holiday, going for a spa day, getting a massage or even just getting your hair done.
