00:00We will go through a pick five sequence at Del Mar.
00:05So Del Mar Saturday races one through pick five.
00:08It's like a five team parlay.
00:10I know a lot of you are looking at the football games
00:12for this weekend.
00:13It's NFL season starting out.
00:15College football started off last weekend.
00:17Alexa, what we will do,
00:19we'll go through the first five races at Del Mar.
00:21We'll pick a couple horses in most of the races.
00:24And then as we add horses, our ticket gets more expensive.
00:27So it's a little different than a traditional parlay
00:29because we don't exactly know what our ticket will pay out.
00:32It just depends on the prices we get along the way.
00:36Hopefully, fingers crossed,
00:37we can get some big prices along the way.
00:39Why don't you start us off
00:40and talk about a couple of the horses
00:41in race number one on Saturday at Del Mar.
00:45Yeah, race one is a baby races for two year olds.
00:49So I don't have a whole lot again to go off
00:51with a lot of these horses,
00:52which is why you'll see on the pace projector,
00:54it'll say not enough data to predict the early pace
00:57because we don't know how these horses
00:58are gonna set up at the beginning of the race.
01:00But I like number four, Mark the Money Man, five to one odds
01:04like most in year, unraced.
01:07And he was not an expensive horse.
01:08However, Timeform US does give him
01:10the strongest pedigree ranking in the field
01:12of 90 out of a hundred.
01:14I mean, he has some decent works to back it up as well.
01:17Also number seven, Prince of Del Mar
01:19are gonna try to make his name a reality tomorrow.
01:22And his sire, Sir Prancelot has 12% winners
01:25for two-year-old first-time starters.
01:27And that's the best first-time starter sire stat
01:30in the field.
01:31I really like his workout on August 24th
01:33where he ran three furlongs in 35 seconds.
01:36As a general rule of thumb,
01:38I like to see horses run each furlong in 12 seconds.
01:41So when I see somebody running faster than that,
01:43it really piques my interest.
01:44He's also had three siblings that have made the track
01:47and one of them did win on debut.
01:49What makes the five races that we're previewing right now
01:52so challenging, four of them are these baby races.
01:56So as you mentioned, Alexa,
01:57we don't have as much information
01:58on the Timeform US profile cards on the past performances.
02:02We don't have as many races to look at.
02:04We're just going off of pedigree for a lot of these horses.
02:07What were their dams and their sires like?
02:09Where were they good?
02:10How good were their barns,
02:12the trainers getting these horses ready early on?
02:14How have they been working out in the mornings?
02:16Alexa likes the four and the seven.
02:18I'll mention the eight steak fries who has experience.
02:21So while he didn't show a lot of talent in that debut,
02:25he's way better in the mornings and he's faster.
02:27I think he'll show more early speed there.
02:29To the outside, war is hell.
02:31The dam was two for three on the grass
02:33and there's a lot of grass in the pedigree.
02:35So I wouldn't be shocked to see this horse
02:36actually be a little bit better on the green.
02:39I'll mention the two horses to the outside.
02:41So we're gonna go four deep, Alexa,
02:43four, seven, eight, 10,
02:45to try to get things started in race number one
02:47on Saturday at Del Mar.
02:49But it'll come down to our single in race number two.
02:52As we go back and forth
02:53and we kind of talk about who we like,
02:55we'll usually send each other our selections.
02:57And right away, this one kind of was an easy single
03:00because we both had the same horse on top in here,
03:02Alexa with Uncle Reg.
03:03Two starts back at Losal.
03:05He was a winner against the starter allowance group,
03:08a 50 starter allowance group.
03:10That race would stack up really well in here.
03:11So we don't have a big price in here,
03:13but we both feel like the five Uncle Reg
03:16is very logical in this spot.
03:18Yeah, he is logical in this spot.
03:20So like you said, we're singling him.
03:21We're gonna spread a bit more in race three,
03:23which is another, like you said, two-year-old race.
03:26I like number eight, Coulere, six to one odds.
03:29And this horse was bred in Ireland
03:31and has run one time, which was in Ireland.
03:34So he's new to the States.
03:35His new connections are trainer Phil D'Amato
03:38and Umberto Raspoli.
03:40And when these two team up,
03:41they've been winning 23% of the time at Del Mar,
03:44which is pretty hot right now.
03:46And also number 10, Curvino, five to one odds.
03:50This is one of the few in here that has run before
03:53and has actually run twice.
03:55Both of those were on dirt.
03:56So this is his first attempt on turf,
03:58but three out of his four siblings
04:00who have tried surf have won.
04:02So the pedigree is there for it.
04:03His speed figures need to improve a bit to compete,
04:06but I do think the surface change
04:08could get that improvement for him.
04:09And when you're putting together a pick five,
04:12a lot of it has to do with
04:13how you want to map your ticket out.
04:17Which races are you gonna maybe go a little bit more bold?
04:20Which races are you gonna do
04:21what me and Alexa did in race number two?
04:23Maybe you'll go a little bit more formful,
04:24a little bit more logical.
04:26This is a race where we're gonna take a couple swings.
04:28We're gonna throw one big downfield.
04:30I'll give you as many sports puns as possible
04:32here on SportsGrid on a Friday.
04:34As a race number three, we'll try to beat Kings Road,
04:37who will probably be the favorite in that race.
04:39That's the number four for trainer Bob Baffert.
04:42So the two horses Alexa mentioned,
04:43and then the one, two, and three will all be on our ticket.
04:47They'll be bigger prices in there.
04:48Zabo, Video Review, and Ironman Cal,
04:51who has a race of experience.
04:53So one, two, three, eight, and 10
04:55for us in race number three.
