00:00It's been this Vuelta a España, very different emotions from last year, but have you enjoyed
00:10this Vuelta a España?
00:11Yeah, I mean, now I'm glad it's over.
00:13The last two days I really suffered a lot and they went by slowly, but no, I'm happy
00:23it's over and I learned a lot in this race as I do every Grand Tour, but yeah, it's been
00:30a very hard one.
00:32Things go so fast in this, in a Grand Tour, and if we stop now and think that Valdemar
00:37was here and he was so successful for the team, that makes it a good Vuelta a España
00:42for the team?
00:43Yeah, it really does.
00:45I mean, with the three stages he won, yeah, we were really on a high during that and then
00:52he was going for the Mountain's Drizzy and that was a whole other objective and to be
00:58honest when he had to abandon the race because of a crash, I think it was really hard for
01:03all of us because we all missed that kind of focus, including myself, so yeah, it was
01:10really hard to recalibrate after that.
01:12And has it been also emotional having Robert guessing in the last race for him?
01:18Yeah, for sure.
01:19I mean, that was one of the things I was looking forward to the most this Vuelta was to race
01:27with Robert one last time and I think he's a huge role model for a lot of cyclists.
01:34He's seen a lot.
01:35He's done so much in his career and yeah, for me, he embodies the passion for cycling
01:42and being a cyclist, so yeah, certainly going to miss him.
01:47Is there an appreciation you think here from the Spanish fans one year on from your victory
01:52in Madrid?
01:53Oh, for sure.
01:54It's, yeah, they're always win or lose, they're cheering me on as well as everyone else in
02:00the race and that's one thing that makes this race really special is the energy that the
02:06fans bring here.
02:07Now, after three weeks, can you put your finger on exactly what may have not worked out for
02:11you?
02:12Is it the lack of preparation, the rush coming into the Vuelta a España?
02:17It's hard to say.
02:18I mean, I didn't have my best form, but yeah, on a lot of stages, I was really happy with
02:26my performance, but yeah, the level is just super high and yeah, there's just no excuses
02:33really.
02:34I mean, yeah, you can always say one thing or another, but yeah, at the end of the day,
02:38everybody has hurdles and problems or excuses, so yeah, just have to be better next time
02:46around.
02:47We were here last year wondering whether you found the winning formula by doing three Grand
02:53Tours a year and a year on, obviously you haven't done three Grand Tours this year,
02:58but how do you feel about that now with a year's hindsight about what that gave you
03:02or what it took out of you?
03:05I think for me, it works pretty well.
03:07I mean, yeah, I think in this race, I noticed on kind of the harder days, I missed that
03:13bit of, you know, yeah, that racing fitness that you only get from races or doing Grand
03:22Tours, but yeah, I think for sure doing three isn't something super sustainable every year,
03:31but I think, yeah, for me, it was hard to miss the tour in and of itself, but then also
03:40I'd miss it in terms of preparing for the Vuelta.
03:44So how many next year?
03:46Well, we'll see, we'll see.
