00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacy and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we are going to talk about a

00:04really important topic and that is under eye creams, if you should be using an eye cream with

00:08retinol and some of my favorite eye creams. Toward the end of the video I'm going to talk about the

00:13two eye creams I'm using most lately that I really love and kind of tell you why. I'll also talk

00:19about some higher end eye creams if they're worth spending more money or if you can get the same

00:25results with something more budget friendly. Hopefully this information will help your

00:29under eyes look their best and you feel more confident and save money in the process.

00:39If you are brand new to my channel I am a 52 year old master in medical aesthetician.

00:43I have spent the majority of my life as a salon and spa owner. Skin care is my passion and sharing

00:59All right you guys let's get into some eye creams. So first of all something that I get asked pretty

01:04regularly is do you need retinol in your eye cream? We know that retinols over the counter and

01:10prescription strength retinoids are well studied and very powerful for treating wrinkles. This

01:16helps the skin turn over in turn keeping the skin looking smoother, brighter, less pigmented

01:23and just healthier. The question becomes do you really need retinol in an eye cream and it's a

01:28little bit of a loaded question. So in short if you're using retinol or retinoid at night

01:34on your entire face including a little bit on the under eyes the skin is like a sponge so it is

01:38going to soak some up even if you only put it down below the eyelids. Technically you wouldn't need

01:44an eye cream with a retinol in it. Now people who have become acclimated they've been using

01:49retinols or retinoids for a very long time can get by with using an extra dose of retinol in

01:55their eye cream. It doesn't mean they have to but they can probably do it without irritation if

02:00they're well acclimated. If you're doubling up on retinols especially in the evening when you're

02:05putting retinol or tretinoin on your entire face and then you put eye cream under it if you're not

02:10well acclimated it can actually make the under eyes look worse. I really like to use retinol in

02:16the morning because I'm not using tretinoin all over my face in the morning as an under eye

02:22treatment but my skin has been well acclimated to retinols and tretinoin and it doesn't cause me any

02:27dryness flakiness or irritation under the eye. If you're someone looking for a budget friendly

02:33retinol eye cream that is hydrating and really nourishing under the eyes and helps treat those

02:40fine lines and wrinkles this would be one to use especially in the morning. This is the Neutrogena

02:45Retinol Pro Plus Rapid Wrinkle Repair and it is $49 for half an ounce. Now most eye creams are

02:52about half an ounce but some I'm going to show you today are closer to or a full ounce. The price

02:57point is higher but you're getting double the product so I'll point that out as I go. Sometimes

03:02we'll see these higher priced eye creams and think wow that's really double the price of so many it's

03:07because there's double the product. One nice thing about this Neutrogena product is that there is

03:12ascorbic acid in this as well as retinol so you're also getting that antioxidant of ascorbic

03:17acid or vitamin c which is going to also help with puffiness and brightening the under eye.

03:22For a drugstore product this is actually one that I really like. I've tried many drugstore under eye

03:28creams and if you need one with retinol this is one I would recommend. Now keep in mind you will

03:33see alcohol on the ingredient list of this one but they are the good alcohols the fatty alcohols

03:39so don't be fooled when you see alcohol. If you're unsure just google the alcohol and make

03:43sure that it's a good or fatty alcohol. Now the next one on my list this is the Kate Somerville

03:49lifting eye cream. Now I have actually used two of these because I wanted to give it a really good

03:55shot. I enjoy this product for a number of reasons but I probably won't buy this one again. It is

04:00half an ounce and it's $140 and for what the ingredients are you can find something cheaper

04:06that's going to give you the same results. If you're a Kate Somerville fan and I am there are

04:11many Kate Somerville products that I truly love but this is one that didn't knock my socks off.

04:16It's good but I just think it's priced too high. Let me just tell you a little bit about this

04:21product what's in it and what its claims are. So again it's $140 for half of an ounce. It has a

04:27triple peptide complex and also some algae in there and hyaluronic acid which is so common in

04:34so many skincare products including eye creams. So there's nothing about this formulation that

04:39really stands out to me or really wows me. It's a nice eye cream but again for me it's not worth

04:45the $140. Let's move on to the CeraVe eye repair cream. You guys this is a great one from the drug

04:52store. It's nothing fancy and of course the packaging isn't overly aesthetic but I think

04:57it's so budget friendly and so many CeraVe products are packed with really good ingredients.

05:02You definitely aren't necessarily getting more for buying medical grade skincare. I know many

05:08people are brainwashed into believing that but when you really break it down and look at the

05:11ingredients you can find products very similar for much less money than these very expensive

05:17medical grade skincare products. The CeraVe eye cream is one of those products. This is only $15.

05:23It's half of an ounce. It's lightweight and it gives you long lasting hydration. CeraVe has a

05:29technology called MVE that releases the hydration over time. So where some eye creams are going to

05:35be really smoothing and hydrating immediately they are going to dry out over time. With the CeraVe

05:41products they actually stay hydrating all day long. This is one I almost always have on hand

05:46because of that lasting hydration. It's really great in the summer months if you tend to be

05:51outside or in the wind and sun and you need lasting hydration under your eyes or on your skin.

05:56The same thing with their moisturizers which have that lasting hydration technology. There's

06:02also niacinamide and there are three essential ceramides which is CeraVe's claim in almost all

06:07their products if not all. Ceramides are a lipid in the skin barrier so that will help protect the

06:13skin barrier keeping it healthy and plump. Another one I've really enjoyed is the Sunday Riley

06:18autocorrect brightening and depuffing eye contour cream. You guys this is $89 and it's half an ounce

06:25and this one is really nice it does what it says as far as depuffing. So if you're somebody that

06:29has puffy under eyes with regular use you do see that puffing decrease over about three or four

06:35weeks. This can be used morning and night as most of these can unless there's retinol and you don't

06:41want to double up your retinol if you're using a nighttime retinol or tretinoin. But most of these

06:46creams you can use both morning and night. There's caffeine and ginseng in here which helps with that

06:51puffiness and the dark circles. So this will improve the darkness but it also has a nice

06:55effect on the fine lines and wrinkles with regular use. I really like this. I'm tempted to buy another

07:00one of these because I do think of all the creams I'm going to talk about for under the eyes this

07:05one I saw the best results when my under eyes were puffy. This also has lutein which is a hydrating

07:10antioxidant. Okay this one isn't just an under eye specific but I really think it works fantastic for

07:16the under eyes. This is the Murad targeted wrinkle corrector. This is $79 for half of an ounce. This

07:24has acetyl hexapeptide which boosts elasticity wonderfully. It also claims to have bioavailable

07:30hyaluronic acid. Now technically hyaluronic acid is bioavailable any hyaluronic acid so unless

07:37they've done something magical and special with the hyaluronic acid in here all hyaluronic acid

07:42is bioavailable. So for those of you who are unsure what hyaluronic acid does it draws a lot

07:47of moisture so it hydrates and plumps and we need that moisture and that hydration and that

07:52plumping effect as we age. This also has plant derived squalene oil which helps prevent water

07:59loss so it locks everything in. I love squalene oil not only for the under eyes but for the entire

08:05face. Again this one is $79 for half an ounce. Okay we're approaching some of my favorites here so I

08:11wanted to say the best for last and we're gonna start with the Paracone MD cold plasma eye cream.

08:18You guys this one is really a special eye cream. I really love it. I didn't expect to nor did I

08:23want to and part of the reason for that was that it's $105 but it is one fluid ounce so it's double

08:30the amount of product than most of these eye creams so when you really look at it from that

08:35perspective it's not any more expensive than some of these eye creams. It gives intense hydration,

08:41it treats fine lines and wrinkles, it improves elasticity, dullness, firmness, and uneven skin

08:47tone. The peptides in this product fortify damaged skin so I think that's really helpful as we age

08:53and it has a vitamin c ester that helps to brighten and smooth the under eye. The triglyceride complex

08:59in this provides powerful hydration. I do think this is one that you would love and I've been

09:04surprised by how much I enjoy this. It is a bit on the pricier side but again it's one ounce so if

09:10it's in your budget it wouldn't hurt to try this one. Now it doesn't have retinol but honestly I

09:15don't think we always need retinol in an eye cream especially if we are using retinol or tretinoin in

09:20the evening. This plumps and brightens that under eye skin wonderfully and it looks fantastic under

09:25makeup. So of my top three this one is number three and the only reason I ranked it three is

09:31because of that price point. One of my favorites that I've been using constantly lately especially

09:36at night but I do also use it in the daytime or in the morning is the Summer Fridays Jet Lag

09:42Overnight Serum which is $46 for half of an ounce. Now this is super hydrating and a little bit

09:49thicker. It has a light occlusive texture which really keeps the under eye hydrated all night long

09:56so it isn't a very light cream but I still wear it during the day and I think on my 52 year old

10:01eyes it actually really smooths out the under eye during the day as well. However this is meant for

10:06nighttime use almost like an under eye mask. It's super hydrating and unique to this is a gentle

10:13retinol blend so if you are somebody that struggles with retinol or the effects of retinol under the

10:18eye this is one to try because it is really gentle. This one definitely smooths the under eye when I

10:24wake up in the morning after wearing this I feel like my under eyes are much more hydrated and

10:29smooth looking. I highly recommend this one just try it I can't imagine not anyone not liking it

10:35it's really good. I've definitely noticed that some of my fine lines have disappeared under my eyes

10:41and I think it's because of the thickness and that gentle retinol complex in this product. It also

10:47has glycerin and licorice root extract to smooth irritation and just take down the puffiness under

10:53the eyes. And last but not least this is one of my absolute favorites I'm giving this one my number

10:58one spot. This is the Belif Moisture Eye Balm. It is $48 but this one is closer to one fluid ounce

11:06so you get a lot. This claims to give you 48 hour moisture and I do agree that this one gives you

11:11long lasting moisture under the eyes. This is definitely going to give you long lasting hydration

11:16under the eyes. It's not going to dry out throughout the day or while you're sleeping at night. This one

11:21also has peptides, ceramides, and squalene which I love in an eye cream. This one is clinically shown

11:27to improve eye bags and the fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. So eyelids, crow's feet, and under

11:33under eye lines. It's also clinically shown to improve firmness. I would agree with that. I've

11:39probably used this one more than any other of the eye creams I've shown you here. This this one's a

11:44close second the Summer Fridays Jet Lag and I'll definitely be repurchasing this. I think it's a

11:49really good value for the price considering you're getting almost a full ounce and it performs well.

11:54So if you do not need a retinol in your eye cream definitely try this and if you've been using a

11:59retinol eye cream but your eyes are looking wrinkly or crepey or you just don't like the texture

12:05it could be that you just don't need that retinol under the eyes. It's such a delicate area and if

12:11it doesn't seem to be agreeing with you or if you're not getting the results that you feel like

12:15you need try an eye cream without any retinol at all. If you guys have used an eye cream that you
