00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of Black Lotus, so, let's begin.

00:06Directed by Todor Chapkinov, the film follows the story of Mateo, played by Riko Verhoeven,

00:11who finds himself in trouble after getting involved with the new stepfather in the Dutch

00:14family.

00:16He must rescue the young daughter of the family from a kidnapping.

00:19Here is everything you need to know about the ending, just to let you know this video

00:22will contain spoilers.

00:25It's been a long time since Mateo lost his best friend and team leader, John, during

00:29a hostage situation.

00:31He finally visits John's house and meets his wife Helene and their daughter Angie,

00:34who is also Mateo's goddaughter.

00:37Helene is glad to see Mateo, although she hasn't forgiven him for not coming to John's

00:41funeral.

00:42But she understands why.

00:44Days pass, and Angie and Mateo get along very well.

00:48Meanwhile, Angie's stepfather, Paul, loses $15 million from one of his client's accounts.

00:54As fate would have it, the client is none other than Gabriel Sabin, an organized crime

00:58boss.

00:59When Paul fails to give Gabriel his money back, Gabriel has Angie abducted.

01:04Interpol agents Shira and Fisher have been tracking Gabriel's illegal shipments for

01:07a long time, but they have to hurry before Gabriel harms Angie or sends her away to a

01:11different country.

01:13For that, they need to come up with a proper plan.

01:16But Mateo doesn't have time for a plan.

01:19He needs to rescue Angie because not only does he love her but also because he promised

01:22John.

01:24After pulling the truth out of Paul about his discreet client Gabriel, Mateo makes his

01:27way to Gabriel and, endures numerous stab wounds and a bullet, still manages to kill

01:32his men in him and brings Angie home.

01:35What is Black Lotus?

01:36Black Lotus is the tattoo on Mateo's right arm.

01:40It is a lotus under a grenade.

01:42The words, Remember Death, carry a lot of significance.

01:46They were soldiers first, fighting for their country, and dying for it was the greatest

01:50sacrifice.

01:51In other words, to remember death is to remember those who died.

01:55But with John gone, it reminded Mateo of his friendship with John.

01:59It is what makes him finally get back to John's family, i.e., to Helene and Angie.

02:04It was his sense of regret and perhaps even shame at not being able to save John that

02:07made him get away from John's family, in the first place.

02:11As Helene mentions, Mateo didn't even come to John's funeral.

02:15However, it was the sense of loss that he realized he shared with Helene that must have

02:19brought him back to her.

02:20As soon as he arrives, he realizes that it is important to give himself a chance.

02:25Meanwhile, we know that he owes Helene and Angie because he promised John that he would

02:29protect them.

02:30This is what drives him to find Angie as well.

02:33So we can say that the Grenade, Black, symbolizes the dark side of him that he wants to hide,

02:38the pain, rage, and remorse, whereas the Lotus symbolizes the side of him that is likable,

02:43loving, and caring.

02:45The Grenade and Lotus together constitute Mateo's conscience.

02:49But the words are what is keeping him from moving on from John's death.

02:53And ironically, it is John's daughter, Angie, who helps him do that.

02:57Does Mateo save Angie?

02:59Paul has been killed by Lowe.

03:01Mateo finally arrives at the construction site to hand over the money to Gabriel's men,

03:06but he blows up their car after realizing that they don't have Angie.

03:10After arriving at the club where Gabriel is and a hand-to-hand fight with Gabriel's hired

03:13assassin Lowe and his right-hand man B.R., Mateo catches up to Gabriel and kills him

03:17before he can escape with Angie.

03:20Black Lotus ends with Angie and Helene having a good time in their backyard while Mateo

03:24is on his way to another place.

03:26Mateo has finally found peace and replaces, remember death, with a remember to die, remember

03:31to live.

03:32While the first half was already there, the second half is a result of Angie's affection.

03:37She taught him the importance of life and love at a time when he thought he had lost

03:40everything.

03:42So now, even though he has left, he knows that he has people who love him and are waiting

03:46for his return to a place that he can easily call home.

03:49This alone is enough for him.

03:51He has made peace with himself, and there's no looking back.
