00:06situation at the hospital when a petrol-laden tanker collided with a truck filled with passengers
00:11and cows early morning light on Sunday in Niger State, Nigeria.
00:16The state governor described the accident as a colossal loss of lives and properties
00:21and urged road users to always obey traffic rules and regulations.
00:27Reports posted online showed the victims were burnt beyond recognition and mass burial
00:31have been held for them.
00:34According to eyewitnesses, in the early hours of Sunday, tanker explosion occurred along
00:39the Lapai-Agaye Road, approximately 2 kilometers from Dendo community in the Agaye local government
00:45area of Niger State.
00:48The accident, as we gathered, occurred around 12.30 a.m., involved a tanker loaded with
00:54petrol that collided with a truck carrying passengers and cattle.
00:58The trailer was said to be coming from Moodle in Kano State and en route to Lagos and it
01:03was heavily impacted by the collision which led to a massive explosion.
01:08Two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van, were also caught in the inferno, intensifying
01:16the devastation.
01:18Initial reports indicate that more than 48 persons lost their lives in the inferno, while
01:24over 50 cattle were burnt alive.
01:26The 48 bodies were given a mass burial on Sunday.
01:30The Niger State Emergency Management Agency and EMA, in collaboration with local government
01:36emergency committees, LGEMCs, according to the committee, immediately dispatched a rapid
01:43response team, RRT, to the scene.
01:47Emergency operations are ongoing as emergency responders continue to search for more victims,
01:52with several bodies still trapped inside the charred vehicles, the committee stated.
01:58Director General of ENCE EMA, Abdullahi Baba Ara, in a statement assured the public that
02:04efforts were being made to manage the situation while expressing deep condolences to the families
02:09of those affected by the tragic event.
02:13Meanwhile, Governor Omaru Bago has expressed sadness over the incident.
02:18In a statement by his chief press secretary, Boloni Ibrahim, Bago said he was pained by
02:24the unfortunate incident.
02:27While commiserating with all those who suffered losses in the incident, the governor called
02:31for calm and enjoying road users to always be cautious and abide by road traffic regulations
02:37to safeguard lives and property.
02:40The governor prayed that God will repose the souls of the departed and grant quick
02:44recovery to those injured.
02:47There was another case of road accident in Niger State which the Minister of State for
02:51Agriculture and Food Security, Ali Osabi Abdullahi, rescued the accident victims in Batati along
02:58Bida Mapa Road in Niger State.

03:08One person died while others sustained injuries.
03:11Nigeria's state-owned media, NTA reported that the minister assisted in the rescue operation

05:32occurred today at Agaye local government area of Niger State where no fewer than 30 human
05:38lives were lost and about 50 cattle burned.
05:42This unfortunate incident is occurring less than 24 hours after a similar tanker explosion
05:47caused serious damages in Ibadan, oil state capital on Saturday.
05:52I am pained by the loss of human lives and other means of livelihood in the two tragic
05:58events.
05:59I thank the safety and emergency agencies that arrived the scene for search and rescue
06:04operations.
06:05I sincerely condole with all the affected families who lost their loved ones to this
06:10tragedy.
06:11I equally commiserate with the government and people of Niger and oil states over this
06:17tragic occurrence.
06:18May God comfort them and all of us who share in the pains of this sad incident in our nation.
06:26I pray God Almighty to forgive the sins of the dead and grant them eternal rest and grant
