00:20President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s contribution to the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers is timely.
00:26Yan Angelique is the message of the National Maritime Polytechnic, or NMP, which is under the Department of Migrant Workers.
00:35The NMP is the only government maritime training and research center in the country that relies on those who want to be marines.
00:43It was established in 1978 under former President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:48It will be located in Tacloban City.
00:50According to NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario,
00:53their mission is to train marines so that Filipino seafarers can remain globally competitive.
01:01For now, the agency's target is to have a branch or center in Luzon and Mindanao.
01:05This will be built in Tanzasa Cavite and Davao City, which have land owned by the NMP.
01:13One of them is the JICA, or Japan International Cooperation Agency.
01:17Angelique is also encouraging the establishment of a budget that will allow more women to enter the marine industry.
01:25For 2025, the allocated budget for the NMC will be P185 million, which will be used to improve programs for Filipino marines.
