00:00In the hearings in the Senate and Congress, it is inevitable to have misunderstandings.

00:09But how should the judges face the hot and sometimes inexplicable situations in the hearings?

00:17That is what Professor Antonio Contreras will discuss in Punto de Vista, Professor.

00:22Good morning, Dian, and thank you very much.

00:31When the internet was not in vogue, the citizens did not know what was happening in Congress.

00:39They only heard about the money to buy newspapers, they could only read about it.

00:45And the commentators like me on the radio back then, they only heard the second-hand information.

00:52But now, the citizens are seeing it because we are seeing it in real-time.

00:57The hearings, sometimes the plenary sessions.

01:00This is good because democracy has become accessible.

01:04It makes it easier for people to understand the issues.

01:08And it makes it easier for people to have a platform to understand, to know what is being discussed.

01:16And they can also see what the Congressmen and Senators are doing.

01:20This is good when it comes to political communication.

01:24The gap or gap between the government, Congress, and the citizens is narrowed.

01:32But on the other hand, Congressmen and Senators sometimes become a hindrance

01:37because they think that the legislation is serious for performing artists.

01:45Sometimes, they become performative in what they do.

01:48When it comes to the hearings, sometimes we see more bombastic questions.

01:53They are constantly forced to show their teeth or to run stunts.

01:58That is the effect.

02:03but when it comes to the stability and legitimacy of the institution,

02:25how they treat the resource persons or witnesses,

02:29or how they treat their fellow Senators and Congressmen.

02:33So this is what we can say is good for the Congressmen and Senators.

02:39Because their real hope is seen by the citizens.

02:42But when it comes to the citizens, there is a silver lining.

02:45You can see now how these people are hoping

02:49so that when it comes to the elections, you can have a basis to vote for them or not.

02:54At the end of the day, democracy is always at the hands of the people.

02:58And the increased visibility and transparency of the political process

03:03has made it easy for people to weigh their options.

03:07But that's what I hope for.

03:09Because every time they see people who are against the Senators and Congressmen,

03:14when they see the wrongdoings of the Congressmen and Senators,

03:18even though they are adding information to use in their vote for the next election,

03:24the credibility of the government will also be reduced.

03:28This will result in a conversation that will benefit the people.

03:37This has made our politics very transparent.
