01:42and Jay, we're back baby!
01:45there's actual stuff to talk about
01:47there's a media day, the Celtics had practice today
01:50you're back at the job, let's ask about that
01:53they had one and a half practices today
01:55what do you mean, explain
01:57they have two days scheduled for every day of training camp
02:01but they're only going to go until they finish what they need to finish
02:05and so they went one and a half practices today
02:08how do they know?
02:11that's flustered, I'm flustered
02:15that just really rattled you
02:17it's not a two-a-day then, it's a one-plus-a-day
02:20what if it takes more than two practices?
02:23would they go to three?
02:25it might be never-ending, I'm not really sure
02:28we haven't reached that point yet
02:30then this is what Joe Mazzullo revealed today
02:33after the one and a half practices
02:35correct
02:36okay, got you
02:38well first, I gotta ask Jay
02:41how does it feel for you to be back?
02:44this is your coming off paternity leave
02:47do you think you've lost a step?
02:49do you think you are still pretty good at holding the mic in a scrum?
02:53I saw some pictures of the Lonnie Walker scrum today
02:56I didn't think your mic hold was that great
02:59I'm in Philadelphia, so I don't know
03:02my mic hold is fine
03:05it's the whole writing thing that's really giving me problems right now
03:11not that I was ever a good writer in the first place
03:14give yourself some credit
03:16I really, really forgot how to use my brain
03:19while I was on paternity leave
03:22and turning it back on is not easy
03:25it's a good thing for you, the Celtics are starting a little early
03:28you got some more time to get back into the groove of things
03:33before they actually start playing games that matter there in October
03:37I know you and B-Rob talked about media day yesterday
03:42and your takes, but I'm a takes man
03:45I need to get my takes off
03:47and I think the most fascinating part about yesterday
03:50is the scientific method the Celtics have adopted
03:54last year, Jason Tatum added 12 pounds of muscle
03:58completely threw off his jump shot
04:01this year, Jalen Brown added 10 pounds of muscle
04:07and so that's smart, that's just recalibrated
04:10that's the perfect amount of muscle you need to add
04:13did the muscle actually ruin his jump shot?
04:16I don't know, we also learned yesterday
04:19that he had mechanical issues in the jump shot
04:22and so I'm not saying there's a direct causation
04:25but there's a correlation
04:27he put on the muscle prior to the regular season
04:29and then he shot 37.6% in the regular season
04:32which was his best mark since 2020-21
04:35maybe he didn't maintain the 12 pounds of muscle
04:38that's fair, I said it was a scientific theory
04:41you just got to keep asking the right questions
04:44but totally noticeable
04:47as you mentioned in yesterday's podcast, Jalen looks jacked
04:50he also looks like he's 24 years old because he shaved his beard
04:56I was looking at him like, what's different?
04:59I know he doesn't look the same
05:02it did not strike me that he got
05:04because he sort of still has a little growth
05:07it's not like he got rid of it entirely
05:09maybe he did at one point
05:11but it took me a little while to realize
05:14that he actually had shaved
05:17here's my question about Jalen Brown
05:20do you believe him
05:23when he says he did the cliche best shape of his life
05:27but do you believe him when he said he worked harder
05:30this summer than he has in every other summer
05:33because he also said all the past summers
05:36he has had his heart broken
05:39do you believe him when he said he was able to generate that much motivation
05:43to work harder than he ever has in the past
05:46after coming off what was his most successful season as a pro
05:49well that's the challenge
05:52can you find that motivation after winning
05:55can you find that motivation while at the top
05:58to keep getting better
06:01he's always been someone who has improved year after year
06:04last year part of what separated him
06:07to me he was like
06:10he's always been in great shape
06:13last year he was in elite shape
06:16there are a few guys who just never tire
06:19I would put Steph Curry in that list
06:22where he can run around all day and you're going to tire
06:25running around trying to stop him
06:28one of those few guys last year where it was just like
06:31no matter how much responsibility the Celtics put on him
06:34and they put a lot on him
06:37sometimes it was shadowing Luka Doncic full court
06:40other times it was whoever else
06:43he was up for the challenge and ready to do it
06:46and didn't wear down ever
06:49so I do believe him when he said
06:52last year he was in the best shape
06:55today we watched him
06:58after one and a half practices
07:01and he was doing a shooting drill that looked really hard
07:04where he was sprinting from one corner to the other
07:07and then shooting one and sprinting to the other
07:10and shooting one and sprinting to the other
07:13I would guess he's still a hard worker
07:16whether he's missing something
07:19motivationally because they did win
07:22but he's always been motivated
07:25I don't think he was only motivated because they lost
07:28he's just somebody who's always going to try to get better
07:31yeah he's gotten better every single year
07:34and you mentioned him being in great shape
07:37that clip that sticks out to me from the finals
07:40where he's like if Luka stays in I'm staying in
07:43you froze for a second
07:46I was saying amazing things, am I back now?
07:50the clip from Jalen from last year in the finals
07:53where he's like if Luka stays in I stay in
07:56I think it shows that's in the finals
07:59that's after the entire season
08:02his just being in fantastic shape for the defensive end
08:05well this is annoying, why am I freezing?
08:08it might be me freezing
08:11somebody's freezing
08:14I'm trying to say Jalen Brown's good
08:17that's all I'm trying to say
08:20he released a new sneaker brand
08:23741, did you take a gander at his new shoes?
08:29I did see his shoes
08:32I'm probably not the best judge of shoes
08:35you have to have an aesthetic taste at some point
08:38you have to look at something and be like I think that looks good or looks bad
08:41it looked fine to me
08:44it's not the best shoe I've ever seen, it's not the worst shoe I've ever seen
08:47I wouldn't say it's ugly
08:50middle man Jay, just not having a take
08:53that is my take
08:56that's not a take at all
08:59it's a fine shoe, why is that not a take?
09:02do I have to have a scorching hot take?
09:05do I have to love it or hate it?
09:08no, it can be right down the middle
09:11I think you're limiting yourself
09:14when you don't be intentionally outrageous
09:17in such a manner
09:20fine, they're the greatest shoes I've ever seen
09:23I've never seen a pair of sneakers
09:26better designed than Jalen Brown's new
09:29741 brand
09:32sneaker, it's the greatest gift
09:35to humanity that's ever
09:38been designed
09:41now you're just being a homer
09:44you've got to be negative when you're talking about these extreme takes
09:47those shoes suck
09:50apparently he turned down $50 million from other people
09:53to make his own company, which I think is cool
09:56it's got to be interesting
09:59speaking of bad takes
10:02who knows how much he actually will have
10:05I feel like it's just so much easier
10:08to just sign a shoe deal
10:11than to create your own company
10:14Jalen Brown doesn't take the easy way out
10:17we'll see
10:20there's probably a lot more to run in a shoe company
10:23than one guy can deal with
10:26I guess he has the Juice brand
10:29he's been in the merchandise game for a while
10:32I don't understand why he needs to start a new company
10:35now that I'm talking out loud
10:38let's take a break here to hear from our sponsor

11:54Richard Jefferson said today
11:57that if you just swapped places with Jason Tatum and Donovan Mitchell
12:00the Celtics still would have won the championship
12:03agree or disagree?
12:06and I acknowledge fully that I'm doing the thing
12:09where I'm engaging in a bad take
12:12and giving it more life because I want to talk about it
12:15and so I'm doing the exact thing that the bad take is designed to do
12:18and I acknowledge that up front but I thought that was laughable
12:21I just don't think Donovan Mitchell is as good
12:24he's 6 inches or 8 inches shorter than Jason Tatum
12:27I just don't think it works that way
12:30that's the problem
12:33could they have won a title with Donovan Mitchell? Maybe
12:36they were loaded, they were head and shoulders better than everybody
12:39if you sub in Donovan Mitchell for Jason Tatum and Donovan Mitchell is awesome
12:42he gave the Celtics problems during much of that playoff series
12:45yeah, maybe they do win a title
12:48I don't think it makes sense to think that a team that went 15-3
12:51during the playoffs would still win 4 games in every series
12:54with a different all-star
12:57instead of Jason Tatum
13:00the thing that gets totally tossed aside
13:03in that conversation
13:06is just why Jason Tatum is so valuable to the Celtics
13:09because he is 6'8", because he can defend anybody
13:12because he did defend centers in the playoffs
13:16and not get hurt by pick and rolls
13:19and not have their defensive integrity dented
13:22and you can put anybody around him
13:25does Derek White, Drew Holiday, and Donovan Mitchell
13:28work defensively? Probably not
13:31probably not, at least they're not the best
13:34defensive team out there
13:37could Donovan Mitchell guard centers in the Dallas series
13:40so that Luca and Kyrie
13:43aren't free to navigate pick and rolls
13:46and just pick on people? No, absolutely not
13:49he's not guarding Daniel Gafford and those guys
13:52the way that Jason Tatum does
13:55so is Donovan Mitchell great at basketball?
13:58Yes. Could they have possibly won a title?
14:01I don't think it's totally out of the realm of possibility
14:04that if you sub Donovan Mitchell onto the 64-win Celtics
14:07they still win a title in what was really a pretty down year
14:10for other teams around the league
14:13there was no challenger to the Boston Celtics on their level
14:16but the whole conversation is just so dumb
14:19because having Tatum and Brown
14:22who for years it was like
14:25can you win with them?
14:28You can definitely win with them, they did win
14:31basically every year of their career, but they also make team building
14:34so much easier because they can do a little bit
14:37of everything and no matter what type of player
14:40you put around them, as long as it's not like a
14:43ball stopping just bucket getter
14:46who only wants to do that and nothing else
14:49anything else works around them
14:52they can play in small lineups, they can play in big lineups
14:55they can play in giant defensive minded groups
14:58they can play in shooting groups, they can do anything
15:01Donovan Mitchell, as great as he is, doesn't have that value
15:04That was one of the interesting things about Jason Tatum's
15:07comments, he has all these six things
15:10he needed to fix with the mechanics in his shot
15:13One, I just think that's interesting that he's able to identify
15:16I was surprised at the length of things that were
15:19kind of problematic there, but the second part of his comments
15:22where he was like, yeah this was a problem for me
15:25in the playoffs, but I had to go out and focus on winning
15:28basketball games and doing all that in the other ways
15:31It's cliche at this point, Joe Mazzulla defining success in different ways
15:34where he's like, I'm still contributing to winning
15:37I don't need to break down my entire game
15:40and fix the mechanics in my shot, I need to do
15:43everything else on the basketball court, and I think that's part of what
15:46makes Jason Tatum great
15:49I think it's interesting that he's presented as a
15:52choice like that, I can either go out there and keep
15:55contributing to winning, or I can really change up my game and focus
15:58on trying to fix these
16:01shot mechanics, and I don't know how necessarily you go out and
16:04fix the shot mechanics, especially in the playoffs
16:07I assume it's just taking a bunch of shots, but he
16:10needed to rest in between games, but I did think it was
16:13interesting that he could noticeably have this problem
16:16that he had in the playoffs, and just be like, but I'm going to go out and
16:19just do everything else and deliver my team a championship
16:22It's like
16:25I compared it to golf yesterday, but I'm going to do it again
16:28It's like, you're not going to mess with your swing
16:31after Friday at a tournament
16:34going into the weekend, you're going to mess with your swing
16:37during the offseason, when you're not scheduled to
16:40play tournaments, and so
16:43you don't reconfigure your swing during the middle of the playoffs
16:46you just hope you swing a little better
16:49Some guys might though, I feel like if your
16:52score, if your main job on the team is to be a scorer
16:55and you have a hitch in your shot, you might do everything
16:58you can to kind of fix that
17:01because that's your lone way of contributing to the team
17:04but as you mentioned in the comparison to Donovan Mitchell
17:07he's doing so much to contribute to the team that
17:10maybe it was less necessary
17:13You saw bits and pieces of practice today, I saw Gary Washburn tweeted out a clip
17:16Is his shot fixed yet? Your thoughts?
17:20It's probably still really good
17:23It's been his whole career
17:26He can be a streaky shooter though, he does go on
17:29months where he doesn't shoot as well
17:32and then he'll rattle off 41-42%
17:35for a few months stretch
17:38My guess would be that he'll end up somewhere
17:41with a pretty good percentage of the season
17:44I also guess that whenever the playoffs roll
17:48he probably won't shoot 20% again
17:51Just a hunch
17:54How confident are you in a public
17:57forum to be like, I can pick out
18:00the things in Jason Tatum's shot now
18:03If you see him take a shot in practice, low shoulder on that one
18:06Because I am not at all
18:09There's some people who are very confident on Twitter
18:12They'll be like, you don't know what the hell you're talking about
18:15I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know
18:18exactly what Jason Tatum is thinking about
18:21when he releases a shot
18:24You're not grinding the all-22?
18:27I've watched all the tape
18:30I've watched every shot of his career
18:36It'd be fun to do, sit down with Drew Hanlon
18:39and break down Jason Tatum's shots, that'd be cool
18:42Maybe you could write a story about it
18:45if you ever learn how to write again
18:48I probably won't
18:51The other big news I want to touch on
18:54I don't believe Chris Dapsporzinga is going to be back by December
18:57This is partly to save my own
19:00approach and mental
19:03health
19:06If he does come back by December, it'll be cool
19:09When has a guy who's that tall
19:12ever come back early from an injury?
19:15I don't really know what the injury is
19:18I know it's in his general ankle area
19:21He's going through contact drills
19:24He's running
19:27When has a big man ever come back from a serious leg injury
19:30and has it gone well?
19:33Nobody has ever had this injury in NBA history
19:36That doesn't help me think it's going to be good
19:39I feel like that makes it more likely it'll go worse
19:42From what I've been told
19:45it's not this super complicated fix
19:48It needed surgery because it needed it
19:51but it's not going to be some crazy complicated fix
19:54Also, he didn't just say
19:57he said the expectation
20:00is a December return
20:04Everything sounds really optimistic
20:07about Chris Dapsporzinga so far
20:10I was surprised by the level of optimism
20:13surrounding his injury and recovery
20:16both from him and from the team
20:19The team part is crazy
20:22The team has always been like
20:25add three weeks to the expected timetable
20:28because they don't want to put pressure on the player to come back
20:31He's running, he's already doing light contact work
20:34It's September still
20:37Usually when guys get to that low
20:40it's not the same with every injury
20:43but that's a really good sign that he's already running
20:46Good stuff from KP
20:49How selfless do you think
20:52Luke Cornette and Xavier Tillman are
20:55hearing that news?
20:58Damn it, there goes my 20 minutes a game
21:01That's a good question
21:04I would guess there's got to be a little bit of
21:07damn it for each guy
21:10I thought I had an opportunity to solidify myself
21:13Tillman's back on a multi-year deal
21:16but at the same time
21:19part of what makes them
21:22good locker room guys for the Celtics
21:25is that they don't
21:28they're ok with not playing a lot
21:31they're ok with just sitting on the end of the bench
21:34and working out every day and trying to get better every day
21:37not necessarily seeing the results on the court
21:40I would guess internally there's a little bit of that
21:43but externally it doesn't show at all
21:46That's fair. There's a reason they came back to the Celtics
21:49neither of them thinking they were the missing piece
21:52You don't go back to the Celtics
21:55if your primary objective is to play a lot of minutes
21:58There were other places where those guys
22:01probably could have played more
22:04but they wanted to be around in Boston
22:07Football season is back
22:10and it is your opportunity to get in on the action

25:05And now back to the show
25:08Besides one and a half practices
25:11What else happened today at the Auerbach Center?
25:14Who spoke? What did you learn?
25:17Fill me in on the scoop
25:20The Celtics played basketball
25:23without the possibility
25:26of putting the ball in the basket
25:30How did the ball change from team to team?
25:33It's a new Joe Mazzuolo thing
25:36They played a scrimmage
25:39according to Sam Hauser
25:42who told me they played a scrimmage
25:45with bubbles on the rims
25:48and the way you kept score
25:51was you scored by getting steals, rebounds
25:54blocks, forcing turnovers
25:58and there was no possibility of scoring
26:01Was there a shot clock?
26:04Are they people taking shots?
26:07I think they were playing real basketball
26:10with a bubble on the rim
26:13That's so wild
26:16Where did Joe Mazzuolo learn this one?
26:19I asked Sam
26:22and he said I think it was his own brain
26:25if I had to guess
26:28but I don't know
26:31I'm not sure
26:34I just know they played a scrimmage
26:37That's what they needed to get done
26:40in the one and a half practices
26:43That's wild
26:46I like it
26:49You need to put effort in
26:52I don't know what you do at the end of the shot clock
26:55Maybe it's free
26:58to not have the pressure of scoring
27:01but that's wild
27:04Joe Mazzuolo hated the offseason
27:07They also have new lines
27:10There are arrows on the court
27:13at least one of the practice courts
27:16that go from the three-point arc
27:19with little squares and rectangles
27:22I asked Hauser
27:25and he was like
27:28I don't know yet
27:31Some are for offensive spacing
27:34others are for defensive stuff
27:37There's a method to his madness
27:40It was an unorthodox day from Joe
27:43according to Hauser
27:47Isn't every day from Joe an unorthodox day?
27:50He's got a whole offseason to cook up ideas
27:53with the confidence that he just won a championship
27:56but also the desire to not be connected
27:59to your immediate past
28:02I feel like Joe is going to come in with completely
28:05new, crazy ideas
28:08because he does not want them to be comfortable
28:11resting on their laurels
28:14It would be a terrible thing
28:17to come in the first day of practice
28:20not even a midseason practice
28:23and be like, we're going to scrimmage
28:26You guys thought you were going to score the basketball today?
28:29No fucking chance!
28:32I don't think it was a big portion of practice
28:35I think it was just a couple of minutes
28:38but some quirky stuff from Joe on day one
28:41I like that he has the buy-in of the players
28:44I feel like you're a new coach
28:47You put a bubble on the rim
28:50Some guys might go, what the hell are we doing here?
28:53You win a championship and do some non-traditional stuff
28:56and talk about weird animals and sandcastles
28:59People are going to be like, alright
29:02I don't know what this is, but I trust him
29:05Pretty much, just blind faith in Joe Mizzoula
29:08and his vision
29:11You guys talked to Lonnie Walker today
29:14The big news coming from that is
29:17he opened to, or has talked about playing in the G League
29:20with the main Celtics
29:23I guess that's kind of to be expected
29:26if you sign an Exhibit 10 deal
29:29I feel like in Brad Stephen's era
29:32the Celtics like to keep that 15th roster spot open
29:35I think it's going to be interesting to see
29:38Lonnie Walker, what he can do in camp
29:41If he's willing to go down to Maine
29:44that just gives them a little bit more flexibility
29:47moving forward
29:50That might be a possibility
29:53That probably shows a little bit of Brad's leadership
29:56and just the way he approaches that
29:59because he was up front
30:02You come here, you're going to have to earn a spot
30:05Nothing's going to be given to you
30:08It's not going to be like we give you an Exhibit 10
30:11with the expectation it's going to be guaranteed automatically
30:14No, there's a chance you go to Maine
30:17There's a chance you don't earn a roster spot
30:20You've got to come to work every day and earn it
30:23I thought his press conference
30:26Granted, it's not about what you say
30:30He said all the right things
30:33He wanted to model himself after Drew Holiday and Derek White
30:36and just watching what they do
30:39He was asked where his ability to score came from
30:42and he said, I've had it since the womb
30:45When he was a baby
30:48if he had a ball in his hand he was quiet
30:51but if they took it away from him
30:54he would just be crying and whining
30:58He said, but as you get older
31:01That is kind of indicative in his game
31:04because he does like scoring
31:07He really loves to score since the womb is right
31:10He said, now I've got to prove I can do other things
31:13It's not just about scoring
31:16I thought he said all the right things
31:19I thought he carried himself like someone who
31:22knows where he is in his career
31:25Knows that he needs to change the way he's viewed
31:28and in some ways change the way he plays to do that
31:31and seems fully
31:37Seems like he's fully embracing the opportunity
31:40with the Celtics
31:43It's probably humbling in some ways
31:46to not have a guaranteed deal and be six years in
31:49and not know if you're going to stick with the team
31:52Especially after he had
31:55kind of a breakout season last year
31:58Statistically, but it wasn't enough for teams
32:01to give him a guaranteed shot
32:04and now he's here in Boston trying to prove himself all over again
32:07Yeah, and it's going to be
32:10interesting to see what he can do
32:13Interesting that he's modeling his game after Holiday and White
32:16I think the question about him is
32:19how much can you lock in defensively
32:22Obviously he can score, but I feel like to play on the Celtics team
32:25they don't really like playing a lot of one-way players
32:28I think that's one of the reasons O'Shea Bursette
32:31is not back. He did a lot of good things in terms of energy
32:34but he was just such a negative on the offensive end
32:37and so being a two-way player
32:40and being locked in defensively is how he's going to get playing time
32:43He did have this other quote
32:46He was a boxing fan and he asked Joe Mazula
32:49if he watched the Canelo fight
32:52and Joe Mazula said, I don't watch pillow fights
32:55He's an MMA guy
32:58and a maniac
33:01I think right now
33:04it's the start of a new year
33:07we've just got to start putting together the list of crazy Joe Mazula quotes
33:10and just have a definitive list
33:13every month, just to rank the best ones
33:16because he's definitely more comfortable
33:19and definitely willing to say some crazy stuff
33:22so I'm going to start compiling the definitive list
33:25of crazy shit Joe Mazula says
33:28It'll be something we'll revisit. It's a new segment
33:31I'm trying to come up with new segments, left and right
33:34So, shit Joe says will be a new one
33:37Any other things from practice today
33:40I wanted to get your perspective on the rest of the top of the East
33:43Anything interesting happen in the Auerbach Center?
33:46Not really
33:49Anything else talk? Tillman?
33:52Tillman spoke
33:55That was cool
33:58Nothing particularly earth shattering
34:01He's got his
34:04face up on the Michigan State Wall of Fame
34:07I bet Soichi Terada was pretty excited about that
34:10Did people ask about me at the practice facility?
34:13They were like, where's Jam?
34:16I assume they did
34:19You don't have to answer. I'm just going to say your silence is dead
34:22to confirm what I had to say
34:25I'm shaking my head back and forth
34:28In some cultures, I think Albania
34:31that actually means yes
34:35I can say that again
34:38We have not talked since the Mitchell Robinson news
34:41I wanted to get your perspective on what
34:44impact you think that has on
34:47the Knicks as they head into a season where they have a lot higher
34:50expectations. They made deals
34:53Are they going to start Precious Achua?
34:56Are they going to start Jericho Sims?
34:59What do you think that does for Robinson?
35:02I don't think he's going to be out until January
35:05Everyone keeps telling me they're the biggest threat to the Celtics in the East
35:08That comes on the heels of
35:11Hartenstein leaving for Oklahoma City
35:14and on top of that
35:17they really rely on
35:20offensive rebounding
35:23Their offense really thrives on the glass
35:26when Mitchell Robinson is in there, when Hartenstein was in there
35:29Can you replicate that
35:32without either of those guys?
35:35I think it's a big absence
35:38I think there's nobody to play that position
35:41on the roster. Obviously, they have tons of wings, tons of guards
35:44Josh Hart will get offensive rebounds
35:47They're a tough team regardless
35:50with a lot of tough players
35:53That's a major absence
35:56They'll be able to overcome it and win regular season games
35:59I think
36:02But that changes who they are
36:05If they can't offensive rebound
36:08that's a huge deal for that specific team
36:11I feel like a lot of their offense
36:14comes from individual creation
36:17by Jalen Brunson
36:20also with Julius Randle
36:23There's this big Julius Randle question
36:26What are they going to do with him?
36:29Are they going to trade him?
36:32How does he fit in?
36:35I see Perkz saying that if you put Julius Randle at the 5
36:38they're going to unlock the Knicks
36:41I just don't think that's sustainable
36:44in terms of a long-term solution
36:47It's going to be interesting to me how they react
36:50What if they just struggle in the first couple months of the season
36:53and they have all these expectations
36:56and they just don't have the size
36:59I feel like we're lower on the Knicks as a podcast
37:02than anybody in the world
37:05Do you think that is bias?
37:08I don't think it's bias
37:11We see their flaws
37:14I think there's a chance that this team
37:17has got a big name
37:20and even though Randle's back
37:23and OG and Inouye will be there for a full season
37:26I think it's just possible
37:29that they're not great
37:32and won't be a lot better than they were last season
37:35when they were good
37:38and a lot of fun to watch
37:41and I think there's a chance they'll be fun and scrappy again
37:44and if they're not markedly better than they were
37:47a year ago
37:50then all of a sudden the expectations are so great
37:53that it starts to feel like a failure
37:56I actually don't think it's bias
37:59but we view them differently
38:02than I think a lot of people do
38:05and if they surprise me
38:08then I won't be surprised
38:12I was following you there
38:15What team in the East are you the highest on right now?
38:18Right now I think
38:21maybe I'm biased because I've been living in Philadelphia for a month
38:24but I do feel like the Sixers
38:27have the best constructed team at this time
38:30to really challenge the Celtics
38:33Obviously everything is dependent on the health of Joel and Bede
38:36but I feel like just adding Paul George
38:40adding Caleb Martin
38:43adding Andre Drummond
38:46they did a good job in filling out the roster
38:49I feel like I'm higher on the Bucs than most
38:52but I still think the Bucs have a much more flawed roster
38:55me being high on the Bucs is just
38:58an underlying belief in Giannis
39:01but if I'm just looking in terms of roster construction in the East
39:04it feels like the 76ers are the biggest threats
39:09I would say probably
39:12but that's why they play the basketball games
39:15Make a prediction! Have a take!
39:18Do you think the 76ers will be good this season?
39:21Yeah, they'll be very good, at least when they're healthy
39:27That's pretty boring
39:30Do you think they're the biggest threats to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference?
39:33I think there's a chance that it materializes
39:36in a way that the 76ers will become
39:39the biggest threats to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference
39:45Yeah, no, I agree
39:48there is a chance that it materializes in a way
39:51in which one basketball team could be better than another basketball team
39:54What do you think about extending Joel and Bede
39:57and giving him all of that money, given his injury history
40:00at what point does Joel and Bede go over the
40:03you know, can he keep doing it?
40:06Can he keep coming back?
40:09He always has
40:12But he always keeps getting hurt
40:15Yeah, and that's the issue
40:18At the end of the day, they might not be the biggest threat to the Celtics
40:21because you don't know if you can trust him or Paul George to stay on the court
40:24you don't know if you can trust Joel or Paul George
40:27once it comes playoff time
40:31They have questions, but every team has questions outside of the Celtics in the East
40:34The Bucs, is their supporting cast good enough?
40:37Are there star guys around Giannis?
40:40Not including Giannis, too old
40:43Will Doc Rivers be able to
40:46unlock something that they never got to last year?
40:52I think the Pacers could still be pretty darn good
40:55I wouldn't be surprised if they're one of the biggest threats to the Celtics
40:59If anybody on this list will tell you, that was the toughest series they played
41:02The Magic, who knows?
41:05If Paolo or Wagner
41:08take a leap forward as a shooter
41:11that changes things
41:14and that team could be scary
41:17Right now, I would say Philly is probably the biggest threat
41:20They appear to be the biggest threat
41:23And it could be serialized
41:27There's multiple universes that exist
41:30in which that could possibly be an outcome
41:33is what you're trying to say
41:36Yeah, and MB specifically
41:39will challenge them in ways that their starting lineup
41:42at least is vulnerable
41:45Here's the thing, the biggest threat to the Celtics
41:48is the Celtics themselves
41:51It's the threat of complacency, the threat of selfishness
41:55because of the continuity, because of the talent
41:58They were just so much better than everyone last year
42:01And if they're getting Chris Tapps back in December
42:04They were pretty lucky last year
42:07in terms of injuries
42:10I say that fully acknowledging that Chris Tapps did not play in the playoffs
42:13but they had one of the best regular seasons in a while
42:16without having any really serious injuries
42:19and that obviously changes every single NBA year
42:22and could change with the Celtics this year
42:25but I do think their depth is positioned in such a way
42:28where they can even get over that
42:31as we saw them being pretty damn good in games without Chris Tapps last year
42:34but we shall see
42:37Your bet is well made
42:40Yeah, ever since you called me out before the podcast
42:43I have to check and do that military check
