01:33B. Robb, we got some actual, some news
01:37Some news over the weekend
01:39You know, a big story coming out of New York
01:43Marcus Morris signed an Exhibit 9 contract
01:45With the New York Knicks
01:47No, no, no, no
01:49We'll get to that, we'll get to that
01:51That is the meat of this podcast
01:53It's on the agenda, don't worry
01:55But that's what we call in the biz a misdirection
01:57The real news
01:59Coming from an article in the New York Post
02:01Describing a conflict
02:05Between the father and son owners of the Boston Celtics
02:10Irv and Wick Grosbeck
02:12This entire time the Grosbecks have been saying
02:17The desire to sell the team is from
02:19And I didn't realize this before reading the article
02:21It was just a classic case of estate planning
02:23That was the only reason why
02:25There was a desire to sell the team
02:27Apparently not so
02:29Apparently
02:31Running the Boston Celtics
02:33Is exorbitantly expensive
02:35Including
02:37Signing every single player
02:39To massive extensions
02:41And Irv
02:43The real money man
02:45The 90 year old gentleman
02:47Who I think said in the article
02:49Owns 20% of the team
02:51Doesn't care for it too much
02:53And wants out of the basketball business
02:55And that is the main reason
02:57What is driving
02:59Why the Celtics are up for sale right now
03:01Yeah
03:03There's
03:05Again
03:07First of all
03:09This is New York Post
03:11Not the most reputable of newspapers
03:13Also not
03:15They don't have a Celtics beat
03:17And
03:19Right
03:21This same author did write
03:23Last month that
03:25Fenway Sports Group was interested in
03:27Buying the Celtics
03:29And there have been reports
03:31Shooting that down
03:33Since then
03:35With that said
03:37We don't know yet
03:39They're obviously still very early in the bidding process
03:41And we just don't
03:43All this stuff will eventually reveal itself
03:45But yeah
03:47With that said
03:49There's a lot of information in here Packard
03:51And a lot of it is stuff that we've
03:53Talked about in the past of like
03:55But now there's like some real numbers
03:57In play here which I think is important in terms of
03:59Where this team is at
04:01And I think one of the first things that sticks out from the article
04:03The report is
04:05You know they won the title this year
04:07As a one seed with tons of playoff home games
04:09And the super maxes haven't kicked in yet
04:11For like Jason and Jalen
04:13And they barely broke even
04:15Paying
04:17Just like 43 million dollars or so in luxury tax
04:19So that kind of tells you
04:21In terms of like
04:23Just where things are for the franchise I feel like Packard
04:25And also
04:27Just where
04:29How the Celtics run
04:31Is like okay this is
04:33If you don't own the arena
04:35Like even if everything goes right for you
04:37And you sell out the building every night
04:39And you have a contract that are still reasonable
04:41Just a little bit over the tax
04:43You're still barely making money
04:45As a franchise
04:47That's pretty eye opening for like
04:49The potential buyers that could be in play here
04:51Yeah it seems pretty wild
04:53And again
04:55It's not like their books
04:57Were released
04:59It was an anonymous source
05:01Telling us that they barely broke even
05:03But you're correct
05:05The Celtics
05:07They get I guess the ticket revenue
05:09But they don't get any of concessions
05:11They don't get
05:13I think they get
05:15A small portion of advertising revenue
05:17For like
05:19Certain electronic banners that go around TD Garden
05:21But the majority of the revenue
05:23That comes from owning the building
05:25Is from like ad revenue
05:27Or like naming rights
05:29And things like that
05:31And they get none of that without
05:33Having to
05:35Having the opportunity to own the building
05:37And so I think that was
05:39Interesting that in their most successful year
05:41When you think revenue would be at its highest
05:45They're not making a lot of money
05:47This doesn't
05:49Like
05:51I never know how to react to these things
05:53Because I feel like
05:55And it goes back to I guess lockouts past
05:57Where the owners
05:59Of all these teams always claim
06:01That they're not making any money
06:03And then new TV deals come in
06:05And it's like
06:07Well you're going to be making
06:09A crazy amount of money
06:11Just from those TV deals alone
06:13The value of the franchise is going to
06:15Increase significantly
06:17And so
06:19Whatever the Grossbecks bought
06:21The
06:23360 million
06:25360 million
06:27What they said in this article was that
06:29Maybe if things go badly
06:31They're going to be sold for 5 billion dollars
06:33And so
06:35Yes I get the idea
06:37Of like money paid out this year
06:39And money taken in this year
06:41Is not the same
06:43But the appreciation and value of the franchise
06:45Has gone up
06:47More than
06:49500%
06:51And I can't even do the math right now
06:53And so it's hard for me to be like
06:55Oh Irv
06:57Poor Irv
06:59It also gives me an appreciation for Wick
07:01Being like
07:03And that's another interesting number
07:05That came out and I don't think we've known fully
07:07Like these percentages
07:09It says Irv owns 20% of the team
07:11Wick only owns apparently 3%
07:13Of his own money
07:15But he has been the forward facing owner
07:17Wick
07:19And I feel like he was on
07:21Television or maybe on the sports hub
07:23Last summer just being like
07:25If you want to win championships
07:27For the Boston Celtics
07:29You have to go out there and spend money
07:31He's been very willing to be like
07:33There's no
07:35And I feel like Brad Stevens has talked about that
07:37There's never been a move where they've been like
07:39We're not going to do this because of any sort of
07:41Financial limitation
07:43And so Wick
07:45Knowing his dad didn't want him to spend the money
07:47Still feels like he gave Brad the blank check
07:49To go out and assemble a championship level team
07:51Completely
07:53Like I mean
07:55Ever since Danny stepped aside
07:57And they started
07:59Piecing it back together
08:01Starting with that 2022 finals run
08:03They've been uber aggressive
08:05And have not been shy
08:07Adding for the now
08:09And like pushing the chips in the middle
08:11Particularly with this Porzingis deal last year
08:13And the Drew Holiday deal right out
08:15You know before camp
08:17This is our moment
08:19So that is a credit to Wick and to Brad and the rest of the front office
08:21Being like we have a window right now
08:23And we know it's going to be
08:25Very tight in a couple years from now
08:27To
08:29Maintain even
08:3175% of this roster as is
08:33So the more
08:35We get aggressive now
08:37Especially with other teams
08:39Lacking assets or just lacking
08:41You know
08:43Or just the urgency that the Celtics have
08:45They kind of were ahead of the curve on this
08:47When you look at the rest of the league and how this offseason went
08:49For the Sixers
08:51And the Knicks of the world
08:53I'm going to get in front of it
08:55Before the shit hit the fan with
08:57The bill coming due
08:59Literally and figuratively here
09:01It is something else
09:03But the Ur vs. Wick part of this
09:05Is fascinating
09:07Because the timing of the sale
09:09Was abrupt
09:11Very surprising
09:13So that would line up with being like
09:15The books came through, everything that came through the year
09:17Is like wait
09:19We barely made money
09:21Valuation can be $5 billion
09:23But if you're paying the bills year after year right now
09:25It's one thing to
09:27Get that valuation on paper
09:29And then another thing to actually
09:31See those dollars as opposed to
09:33Paying payroll and everything else
09:35So it is a fascinating
09:37Subplot to see
09:39How this kind of played out
09:41And the awkward timing of how
09:43This sale is going on here
09:45Let's take a break here
09:47To hear from our sponsor
09:49PrizePix
09:51America's number one daily fantasy sports app
09:53With over 5 million active members
09:55It's the easiest and most exciting way
09:57To play daily fantasy sports
09:59Unlike other apps on PrizePix
10:01It's just you against the numbers
10:03All you do is pick more or less
10:05On 2-6 player stat projections
10:07And watch the winnings roll in
10:09You can now win up to 100 times
10:11Your money on PrizePix
10:13With as little as 4 correct picks
10:15And PrizePix is the only real money
10:17It also has an injury insurance policy
10:19Which I think is very useful
10:21So that your lineups stay in play
10:23Even if one of your players get injured
10:25If your player leaves in the first half
10:27And doesn't return
10:29Your picks are still live
10:31I know personally with PrizePix
10:33I'll be looking at the NFL season here
10:35Jacoey Brissett is going to be the quarterback
10:37For the Patriots
10:39So I'll be looking at what his passing yards are
10:41Out of the gate
10:43So download the PrizePix app today
10:45And code CLNS
10:47And get $50 instantly
10:49When you play $5
10:51That's code CLNS on PrizePix
10:53To get $50 instantly
10:55When you play $5
10:57You don't even need to win
10:59To receive the $50 bonus
11:01It's guaranteed
11:03PrizePix, run your game
11:05The other thing that's interesting to me
11:07Is that the deal, the plan in place
11:09Is to not actually sell the team
11:11Until like 2028
11:13Both Irv and Wick
11:15Are on the hook
11:17For this year, upcoming season
11:19Where they're reportedly due to lose $80 million
11:21And then the following season
11:23Which is when they're going to be
11:25Spending $230 million
11:27Taxes
11:29Exactly, and so
11:31If there's kind of this
11:33Desperation to get out from under
11:35Having to pay that
11:37Why set up this tiered
11:39Auction buying system
11:41For years down the line
11:43When you have these bills coming
11:45Immediately
11:47Over the next two years
11:49That part has still never really been explained
11:51As to why they've tried to
11:53Set it up that way
11:55And it's just a messy situation
11:57And I think Adam Silver
11:59And the NBA would generally
12:01They don't like to have
12:03The teams transferred in that manner
12:05Because we can see what happened in
12:07Minnesota with the Timberwolves
12:09Where Glenn Taylor basically had this
12:11Tiered process where Alex Rodriguez
12:13And Mark Laurie had to
12:15Make three payments and they made
12:17The first two, which was billions
12:19Of dollars
12:21And then Glenn Taylor was like, oh the team's pretty good now
12:23What if I
12:25Didn't sell
12:27And that's going to be an entire ongoing
12:29Legal battle, so it just creates this kind of
12:31Weird
12:33System, but it still doesn't make sense
12:35To me because the immediate
12:37In terms of financially
12:39Is at least 80 million, according to this article
12:41Again, all of this is according to this New York Post article
12:43Is 80 billion dollars
12:45Next year and then that
12:47$230 million
12:49Tax bill for the following season
12:51So the timelines still have never really
12:53Made sense to me
12:55Yeah, that's a good point
12:57In terms of
12:59Like why you can take some of
13:01What this article says with a grain of salt
13:03But maybe it is
13:05Like, okay
13:07Listen, we created this championship window
13:09Like, if you're awake, you're like
13:11We're going to give this all up immediately
13:13Like, how about, okay, you don't want to
13:15Pay the full bill, how about if we
13:17Get an influx of cash here
13:19And we give some of it now
13:21I get to stay as
13:23Governor
13:25Maybe the first payment is just like, cover our losses
13:27For the next two years
13:29Cut our losses in half
13:31And obviously, you know, they don't own
13:3320% of the team
13:35This is still fractions
13:37There's plenty of owner within that group
13:39And within the team itself
13:41We don't know the full breakdown of who owns what
13:43But PAGS, I assume
13:45I think they mentioned he owns
13:47He mentioned 20%
13:49PAGS owns more than WIC does
13:51Which is like an interesting thing
13:53He definitely owns more than WIC does
13:55He still doesn't have a controlling share
13:57But yeah, that element
13:59It says like, okay
14:01This is a compromise
14:03Like, okay, we know this is all here
14:05And the other part of this too
14:07Is like, if this was as dire
14:09As this is playing out
14:11Those extensions for Derek White
14:13And Sam Houser
14:15Probably would not have been authorized
14:17Because
14:19For strategically
14:21Those look like good deals on paper
14:23And fine, but like
14:25They just
14:27Those deals are going to cost tens of millions of dollars
14:29In tax penalties on top of it
14:31So, it's one thing to know
14:33You keep those assets, but if
14:35There is that much of risk to even add any kind of payroll
14:37For the future
14:39Down the line like that
14:41As dire as this is playing out
14:43Then you would think that
14:45Those deals don't get done
14:47Yeah, it's interesting
14:49Again, with the timeline
14:51Does the new owner come in?
14:53There's been so many discussions
14:55About like
14:57A new owner is going to want to get a new building
14:59I just think that's so
15:01Impossible
15:03I think I saw someone on Twitter saying
15:05The new owner must be committed to buying the TD Garden
15:07I was like
15:09Delaware North doesn't want to sell the TD Garden
15:11They're not selling anything
15:13They make so much money
15:15Like, Delaware North is the family company
15:17That also owns the Bruins
15:19Like, they have no interest in selling
15:21One of the major
15:23Venues in Boston
15:25And so
15:27The Post article speculated
15:29That this maybe drops the price
15:31From $6 billion to $5 billion
15:33But it is a question
15:35Especially with that $230 million
15:37Tax penalty coming in two years
15:39And again
15:41It still gets weird to me with the dates
15:43Of when this kind of
15:45New owner would be financially responsible
15:47But
15:49It feels like the Celtics front office
15:51Have operated in a world where money
15:53Is not the issue
15:55It's putting the best team on the court
15:57Does a new owner come in and be like
15:59We're not paying $230 million
16:01If I buy the team
16:03And I think
16:05I dislike that
16:07Because it means you're going to have to make a move
16:09To break up the core that just won this championship
16:11But if you're buying the team
16:13You have kind of a right to say
16:15How the team operates
16:17And paying the repeater tax
16:19Of just paying taxes
16:21That's equal to the payroll
16:23You're putting out
16:25I'm never been a business guy
16:27But I can understand how
16:29Someone might want to be able to dictate
16:31Terms of that
16:33And I just think that creates an interesting dynamic
16:35Of a new owner coming in
16:37And say they make the first payment
16:39They might not officially control the team until 2028
16:41But they make a first payment
16:43And conditional upon that
16:45It's like you got to cut payroll buddy
16:47And telling Brad
16:49It's a weird dynamic that
16:51Directly affects the basketball
16:53And the court
16:55I feel like a lot of the stuff
16:57Hopefully does not change
16:59The team's general commitment to winning
17:01I think they're always going to want to field
17:03A competitive
17:05Franchise
17:07And that's something Brad has always talked about
17:09Is sustainable success
17:11But I would not be surprised
17:13If a new owner comes in
17:15I don't think they're going to come in
17:17And say
17:19We're not going to pay $230 million
17:21Just in taxes
17:23People don't like taxes
17:25Historically wars have been fought over taxes
17:27And so I think
17:29How they enter
17:31I think this next year
17:33I wouldn't be shocked if they made a deal just to cut money
17:35But next summer
17:37I feel like
17:39It's almost guaranteed
17:41That someone
17:43With one of these longer term contracts
17:45Is going to be moved
17:47Just so there can be less payroll
17:49Less tax bill

20:45And now back to the show
20:47Clearly
20:49I mean talking to people around the league
20:51Even before the start of last year
20:53When they make these moves
20:55They're open like this is a 2-year window
20:57For the Celtics
20:59Like last year
21:01They got done in year one
21:03Important for a lot of reasons
21:05Including taking the edge off
21:07At least not from the players' perspective
21:09Not from Joe Mazzullo's perspective
21:11But certainly for the front off
21:13And stuff like that
21:15Being like alright we got done
21:17Now we're playing with house money to a degree
21:19Can we go back to back here
21:21But it is
21:23It's a situation where if you're a new owner of a team packer
21:25You want to come in
21:27Like hey welcome to the team
21:29We're going to sell out the red carpet
21:31And now break up a championship core
21:33Is that how anyone wants to come into town
21:35Probably not
21:37But that's
21:39Unless you're coming in with
21:41Bezos or bomber money
21:43That's probably some direction
21:45That's going to have to be done
21:47And I guess maybe
21:49Urban Wick can kind of sell
21:51And be like listen you're only getting half
21:53So you don't have to pay $230 million in taxes
21:55You don't have to pay $115
21:57You can stay in control
21:59But all that stuff is still subject to negotiation
22:01Like price wise and stuff like that
22:03I imagine
22:05It's like with Mark Cuban in Dallas
22:07He was supposed to be a front facing
22:09Figure
22:11After the sale
22:13But clearly they negotiated that
22:15Where he disappeared into the background
22:17And the new owners were front and center
22:19When they won the west finals
22:21Yeah once you're not actually the owner of the team
22:23It just creates an awkward situation
22:25If someone comes in and buys the team
22:27And is financially on the hook for the team
22:29Wick can't
22:31It just doesn't make any logical sense for Wick to be
22:33Like we already know now that he only owns 3%
22:35Of the team
22:37It doesn't make any sense for him to remain the front facing owner
22:39Once you come in
22:41And kind of everyone knows
22:43That this other person is waiting in the wings
22:45Or else otherwise you have this very awkward
22:47Situation like in Minnesota
22:49Where you have two owners who hate each other
22:51Sitting on different sides of the court
22:53During playoff games
22:55I'm imagining the Celtics are
22:57Going to want to avoid that
22:59But it's been interesting
23:01To see
23:03I feel like with other teams
23:05We've heard about
23:07Rumors about potential buyers
23:09Like I would have thought
23:11The Celtics were one of the higher
23:13Desired
23:15Organizations to buy in the NBA
23:17And maybe this is
23:19Entirely just
23:21I don't know what type of bias it would be
23:23But I feel like there would be more interest
23:25But we've heard that report about Fenway Sports Group
23:27We've heard Bezos' name
23:29Floated out
23:31But that was by Bill Simmons
23:33Kind of speculating on his podcast
23:35But other than that
23:37I don't think we've heard any other kind of rumored
23:39Individuals
23:41Maybe because the asking price
23:43Is north of $5 billion
23:45And not a lot of people have that kind of money
23:47Lying around
23:49Is there more
23:51Speculation about potential people
23:53Who wanted to buy the team at this point?
23:55Yeah I think
23:57Again I
23:59Would imagine this is pretty early in the process right now
24:01Like
24:03They're
24:05Got to put all the books on the table essentially
24:07Of like
24:09Okay this is what we have
24:11This is our future
24:13This is who owes what
24:15This is how we run
24:17And you can't put that picture together
24:19If you're putting together a sale for something like
24:21Any sports franchise
24:23Much less the Boston Celtics
24:25Coming off a championship
24:27And so
24:29Yeah I imagine as we get into
24:31Once the season gets going
24:33We know that their target is to get this done
24:35During this season
24:37The first half of this
24:39Which means
24:41I think as we roll into the fall here
24:43And into the winter
24:45Once things get serious
24:47About something like this
24:49It's going to be
24:51The web of people that know about it
24:53Will get a little bit bigger
24:55And we might be hearing a little bit more buzz
24:57On this front
24:59But I do think
25:01How much do you think Arcola
25:03Or just the knowledge of stuff like this
25:05For like Missoula, Brad Stephens, etc
25:07Knowing like
25:09The sense of urgency for this season coming up
25:11Knowing like hey
25:13We're not going to be able to bring this group back
25:15Like we know what Joe's mentality is
25:17But if you're Brad right now
25:19Do you
25:21Potentially use that extra first round pick
25:23For this year
25:25Like add the trade delay etc
25:27Knowing that
25:29You really got to make that push now
25:31Because you just may not have that option at all
25:33Come next year
25:35You talking about trading the first round pick
25:37And adding more salary to this team
25:39B-Rub
25:41That's crazy
25:43No I mean I don't know
25:45I think
25:47It's an interesting
25:49Thing
25:51I feel like Brad might consider it more than Missoula
25:53I feel like Missoula's so
25:55Just like locked into winning
25:57That he doesn't need any more
25:59Extra motivation
26:01And I don't think Missoula's going to be able to
26:03Necessarily
26:05Talk to the players
26:07About the financial ramifications
26:09As soon as he gets to that
26:11It's like in one ear and out the other
26:13It may have an impact on Brad
26:15Because it's directly affecting his
26:17Operating budget
26:19I would say
26:21And so
26:23If Brad does trade
26:25One of his first round picks
26:27Are we reading too much into that
26:29Because Brad also hates first round picks
26:31And only has made his first one ever
26:33In this last draft
26:35And so he's never really been a big fan of
26:37First round rookies
26:39The other thing
26:41There does put
26:43Thank god they won last year
26:45Because if they didn't win
26:47Last year
26:49There would be so much
26:51Pressure on this season
26:53With Porzingis being out
26:55With Porzingis being out
26:57But with all
26:59The craziness that happened
27:01Before they won the championship
27:03Of getting to the door
27:05in the finals. It would be frightening how much life or death. And this is a question for you,
27:17B-Rob. Do you think when the Celtics blow a lead early December and just lose a game,
27:24they absolutely shouldn't? Or do you think people are going to be a little bit more chill and be
27:32like, yeah, we won last year. That thing's happened. It's December.
27:35People are definitely gonna be more chill this year.
27:41No, because there was so much, I think, damage from past previous playoff collapses against
27:50the Heat and the Warriors, et cetera, from those last couple post-seasons,
27:55especially in crunch time situations, that that stuff added up, I think, for a lot of the fan
28:01base. Now, with the way they rolled through things last year, pretty much top to bottom
28:07from the whole season. If there's any team that has earned the benefit of the doubt,
28:12it's this one. I think you're underestimating the folks of twitter.com and their fury in poor
28:20late-game execution or what they see as bad effort on a second night of a back-to-back in Atlanta or
28:26something like that. There was no track record before, though. It's like now there's the track
28:30record. It's like they quickly in the playoffs, like all those comebacks against the crazy
28:35comebacks against the Pacers, holding off the Mavs in crunch time, et cetera. There's enough
28:42there now where it's like all those points are not, you can't stand on those anymore because
28:48there's more recent stuff where you'd be like, hey, listen, these guys, they know what they're
28:52doing now or at least knew enough to navigate an undermanned Eastern Conference playoff field.
29:01But it is, but I mean, well, it is a fact that they also haven't had, they didn't have any
29:07adversity last year. They didn't have any real losing streaks. So if they lose four in a row,
29:12five in a row, God forbid, then I think the Celtics have lost it. It's a different team.
29:18The pressure from the sale is getting to them. We'll see. I'm excited to interact with perhaps a
29:27new chiller version of Celtics fans, but I also kind of love the craziness that Celtics fans would
29:32get to anytime there was a performance. Yeah. Passionate fan base. I mean, it's great for the
29:38players though, too, in this situation of like all these guys are paid like ownership who gets,
29:43I mean, yeah, someone might get traded that, that obviously is going to hang with you, but it's not
29:47going to be this year. So there will be no extra like pressure on those guys from that standpoint,
29:54which I think is very good news from a, if you're a fan of this team of like the players can focus
29:59in on what matters, everything's locked in for them and it'll be all right there essentially.
30:04Yeah. I was actually watching a clip from Jeff Teague's podcast recently, and that's, I've never
30:10listened to an episode of Jeff Teague's podcast, but he's got some great clips and some great
30:14storytelling. And I don't think we appreciated Jeff Teague enough while he was here in Boston.
30:19And in fact, I think I said probably negative things about Jeff Teague, but that's because
30:22he didn't tell any stories when he was there. But he was talking about his first contract here
30:27and like signing his first contract and how much like that just weighed on him every single game,
30:32because he was like, I need to have a 38% three point percentage if I'm going to have like set
30:37myself up. And like, it totally affected how he was playing. Thankfully, none of the Celtics have
30:43been in that kind of like contract situation, but you're right. Every single person is set up
30:47guaranteed contracts. They have nothing to worry about except winning back to back,
30:54not being on entitled defense, title offense, like an Orca. But, and I think the thing to worry
31:00about is like, maybe they're too comfortable heading into next season because everyone is
31:04paid, but that's for Joe Mazzuolo to figure out. And I'm sure he'll have creative ways to motivate,
31:11motivate the fellas as, as Joe Mazzuolo does. Two last pieces of nonsense before we,
31:17we get out of here. Jason Tatum predicted on Jimmy Fallon that he thought it'd be a rematch
31:22against the Mavericks in the finals. And then Kyrie Irving changed his Instagram profile picture
31:28to a picture of himself standing at center court at the TD Garden. And he's clearly standing on
31:35Lucky. And when is this guy going to learn that messing with Lucky in such a public manner is not
31:42going to work out for him. He performs terribly at the TD Garden. And maybe this is a, him trying to
31:47like sage the situation or, but you don't tempt the leprechaun gods like that. He can't help himself.
31:56He'll be, till his like retirement day in the NBA, he'll be taking backhanded
32:03slipes at Lucky in Boston. And it is, it's funny how it's kind of played out over the years.
32:12And particularly with this last finals, but that that's just good. At this point,
32:15it's just entertaining if nothing else on that front from him.
32:18And I feel like it's the exact thing that if Kyrie Irving gets asked a question about this,
32:23he's going to be like, I just said it to a picture of myself, you assholes.
32:29But then you can't say that you have a third eye and that you're like doing all this thing.
32:33You could have set your, a picture to yourself standing on any court in the league. It could
32:38have been the Mavericks home court, but the picture is very clearly Kyrie Irving standing
32:43on Lucky at TD Garden. If the man like he has to be a self-aware enough to know what's going on
32:51there. And so just a, it doesn't stop with him. He's always been an interesting character,
32:58but good luck to him. I'm shocked if the Mavericks get back to the finals next year.
33:04Yeah. I mean, if click turns the back of the clock, maybe, but I've, if you're going to guess
33:12bet between like return to the finals or first round exit for them. Like I lean more towards
33:19the first round exit in terms of just like, I think everything kind of broke perfectly for
33:23them last year. And this time around in the West, it might not be so easy. How do you feel about
33:32Mook in the Garden MSG? I feel great about it. I love Mook. He signed what it was an exhibit nine
33:44contract. I didn't know. I don't know what that is. That's like what all the, like all the guys
33:50that the Celtics had last year were on exhibit nights, like coming into camp, like Stevens.
33:57So it's pretty much literally just like no guaranteed money.
34:02And yeah, you, you earn a spot, you're in a spot, but if you get hurt, like
34:11I'm kind of stunned that that Mook is he, what do you, what do you score in that game five?
34:20Like 20, 25 points? I forgot about that. That was awesome.
34:29He was so good in that game. He was single-handedly kept the
34:35Cavs in that game. He had 25 points. He made five of six from three. He was phenomenal.
34:42Wow. I completely forgot about Mook in the, in the end of that series.
34:47And that's all you get. And you get an exhibit nine. That's, that's all you can do. It's like,
34:51it's one thing when you, you know, the Delano bands and the Stevens of the world get that, but
34:56if you're coming off like 25 points in a playoff game and you still can't get a guaranteed,
35:00I know he's old. I know he can't play defense, but like the tough, tough going right now for,
35:05for journeymen veterans in the league Packard.
35:09He is 35. He averaged six points a game last year across all his teams. And so I'd be shocked. I
35:16mean, he's competing with Landry Shamit now. I think he said he signed a similar deal with the
35:21Knicks. I don't know if this necessarily moves the needle in the Eastern conference, but at least Jay
35:28will get to talk to Mook, you know, four times a year, potentially if he makes the team. So good
35:33for Mook. It's a big F, but no, that's more Mook. More Mook interviews with Jay is always a good
35:40thing. I would agree. He's a Philly guy and I guess I'm a Philly guy now. So I have to,
35:45I have to be proud of Mook. That's going to do it for us folks. Again, if you liked this
35:51podcast, we do a podcast every single day about the Boston Celtics on patreon.com
35:57slash still potable. We're getting excited for the season, ramping back up media days,
