Hambleton recently ranked third as England’s most relaxed area in a recent study.  The study by fitness equipment supplier Mirafit analysed the latest survey data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Health Index to judge 307 England’s local authorities on three factors.  These factors were based on survey respondents’ answers to questions about feelings of anxiety, general happiness, and life satisfaction.  I visited the village for myself to see why it ranked so high.

00:00Hello, I'm reporter Sean Gleaves and I'm on the banks of the beautiful River Wyre near a little village called Hambleton,

00:05which was recently ranked third as England's most relaxed area in a recent study.

00:09The study by fitness equipment supplier Mirafit analysed the latest survey data from the Office for National Statistics Health Index

00:17to judge 307 of England's local authorities on three factors.

00:21These factors were based on survey respondents' answers to questions about feelings of anxiety, general happiness and life satisfaction.

00:29I visited the town today to see why Hambleton ranks so high.

00:32With a population of around 2,500 people, the village has a petrol station, primary school, off-licence butchers, pharmacy, chippy and more.

00:40There's also the Shovels Inn pub which serves a variety of classic dishes, from cheese and onion pie to bangers and mash.

00:46The village is about a 10 minute drive away from Poulton Town Centre and 40 minutes from Lancaster,

00:51meaning residents are situated nicely away from the hustle and bustle.

00:56Properties in the area had an overall average price of £230,000 over the last year.

01:00The majority of sales were detached properties selling for an average price of £286,000.

01:05Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £178,000.

01:15I'm walking down some of the back streets now and it's absolutely stunning.

01:18There's lots of countryside here, it's really quiet.

01:21I was just speaking to a local butcher, he didn't want to be on camera but he was really nice and he was basically saying that

01:26people like to support local businesses here and there's a lot of elderly so it's very relaxed.

01:32After being here for about an hour and speaking to some locals, I can really understand why this village ranks so high.

01:38It's peaceful, the people are friendly, you're surrounded by beautiful countryside and it's everything that you need.

01:43With brand new co-op also set to open soon.

01:46If you're looking for a place that's quiet but not too far from a city, this might be the perfect place for you.
