00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos next week.

00:12According to the Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Daniel Espiritu,

00:17this is in line with the invitation of Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Sifandot.

00:21ASEAN Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience is the theme of the ASEAN Summit.

00:26The summit will serve as a platform for the leaders to exchange views on key regional and international issues,

00:32build consensus on matters of common concern, and provide policy directions for the ASEAN community for the years to come.

00:40President Marcos will hold 16 meetings with various leaders from October 9 to 11.

00:48This includes a plenary and retreat session where regional and international issues related to ASEAN will be discussed,

00:57including issues in Myanmar, the Korean Peninsula, Ukraine, and Gaza.

01:03The summit will include China, South Korea, Japan, and bilateral meetings between leaders of Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Japan.

01:13President Marcos will push the interests of the Philippines in ASEAN.

01:18Such as involvement in the digital economy, support for small businesses, green energy, and climate change.

01:26Strengthening cooperation in biosafety and security, and fight against human trafficking in Pogo.

01:34The Philippines will give sovereignty and rights to the West Philippine Sea in accordance with international law.

01:40This is in line with the incidents of China's invasion of the Philippine Sea.

01:47The President will continue to defend the Philippine sovereignty and sovereign rights and jurisdiction in accordance with international law,

01:54including the 1982 UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award.

01:59Administration Marcos will not stop pushing the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.

02:05The desire to conclude that as soon as possible is always there.

02:09In fact, during the last summit and in the subsequent meetings, there has been this thrust to possibly conclude it in three years

02:18as a part of the initiative of Indonesia and the other members, but of course, it's not conclusive either.

02:29We've been working on the COC for the past 20 years. So, let's see.

02:35According to the President's schedule, he will attend an event with the Filipino community in Laos.
