00:00We will discuss new programs and practices for micro, small, and medium enterprises
00:07with Ms. Maria Faye Avila, OIC Executive Director of DTI Philippine Trade Training Center.
00:16Ms. Avila, good afternoon to you.
00:18Good afternoon to you too, to the listeners here in our program.
00:23First of all, what is this SEAL Beta Program?
00:28What is the purpose of this program?
00:31The SEAL Beta Program means Small Enterprise Acceleration Lab,
00:37Business Expansion through Training.
00:40The purpose of this program is to increase the knowledge of our micro-entrepreneurs
00:45in business so that they can develop and expand it.
00:48This includes practices on product diversification,
00:54on costing and pricing, and how to participate in trade fairs where they can sell their products.
01:02There is also a component of mentoring after training,
01:06and that is also what we call actual trade fair simulation.
01:10At the end of this, they are also trained on how to pitch their business ideas
01:16and their products so that they will be able to buy their products.
01:22So, ma'am, what is happening here is that we are helping micro and small enterprises
01:27so that they can have a better business.
01:29That's right.
01:30That's really good. DTI is good at that.
01:32Yes. What are the examples of these businesses? What are their products?
01:38Most of them, even in the past years and until now when we started in Cebu City,
01:45most of them are food products like crafts, home decor,
01:53but there are also services like water purifying services.
02:00So, it's very diversified.
02:02We don't have to choose who can participate as long as they want their business to prosper.
02:09And they are within the range of micro-entrepreneurs that we are talking about.
02:13Okay. So, we started this in Cebu.
02:17Cebu.
02:17Can you share with us what happened in Cebu?
02:20What are the businessmen who joined our SEAL Beta Program?
02:24In Cebu, we have more than 30 participants in our SEAL Beta Training Program.
02:33And the participants here are those who are in the food field,
02:39there are confectionaries, there are vendors,
02:43there are lechon because in Cebu, lechon in a box.
02:47What is the name of the town? Carcar?
02:50Yes. Although I'm not from Cebu, but there are participants whose products are lechon.
02:57Lechon in a box?
02:59Lechon in a box.
03:00We are still traveling from Cebu City to there.
03:03That's right. We sometimes order lechon, right?
03:06Yes, you can.
03:07We sometimes fly in from Cebu, right?
03:09Yes.
03:10So, those are the participants who joined us after our training in Cebu.
03:15And there are many more. There are many types of businessmen who joined us.
03:20Food.
03:21Because when we talk about Cebu, food is also one of their concerns.
03:26I saw something at the airport, because I was recently in Cebu.
03:30It's like an alternative to the usual dried mango.
03:34I saw something called organic dried mango.
03:37How is that?
03:38I don't know how it is.
03:39No, I mean, they put organic dried mango.
03:44So, I tried it. I said it might have no taste because it's organic.
03:48How is it?
03:48But actually, it's delicious.
03:50There are a lot.
03:52I feel healthier because it's organic.
03:55But it was something else.
03:56And there are a lot of other products, right?
03:58There are O-TAPs and cookies.
04:01There are also entrepreneurs who joined us and they bring us souvenirs.
04:07You know, ma'am, we have businesses in the province that don't necessarily bring souvenirs.
04:12Yes, ma'am.
04:12Won't you include them?
04:14For example, the Tagalites Summer.
04:16The...
04:18What's the name of the partner?
04:20Banig?
04:21Banig.
04:22Sorry, Banig.
04:22Won't you help them to develop their business?
04:28We also help them.
04:30So, aside from food, the non-food products, especially if it's a micro-entrepreneur's business,
04:38I'm sure we'll help them, especially if it's their main source of income.
04:45Sometimes, ma'am, the problem is they have products but they can't bring it to the market.
04:51What can they do?
04:53What do they sell?
04:55Do we have to help them to bring their products?
05:00Yes, we do.
05:01What we're doing now, after we give them experience,
05:05of course, PTTC also has a network with other governments closer to our home within the DTI.
05:12So, if there's an opportunity for them to join the trade fairs that are being held in the regions and at the national level,
05:21we help them get closer to that.
05:24Aside from that, we also have partners who are already in e-commerce.
05:28So, especially for micro-entrepreneurs,
05:30those who are legit micro-entrepreneurs,
05:33those who are not shy to join, for example, our big e-commerce marketplaces.
05:39So, we have a partner who is also a social enterprise on e-commerce,
05:45wherein our micro-entrepreneurs can put their products there so that they can market it.
05:52Yes, it's a bit intimidating because sometimes you think, what are the requirements there?
05:58So, you don't feel like joining because there are a lot of people asking for it sometimes.
06:03So, at least, we help them.
06:05Also, DTI also has its own marketplace.
06:09Where is it? On Facebook?
06:11One town, one product.
06:13Is it on Facebook?
06:15It's really an e-commerce marketplace of DTI.
06:19Ah, okay. I didn't even know.
06:21So, can I order there?
06:23I think so, yes.
06:25I mean, is it on Facebook?
06:27No, it's not. They also have it on Facebook,
06:29but DTI also has its own website.
06:31Okay.
06:33So, let's go to the trade fair simulation.
06:37What is this and what is its purpose?
06:39Yes, this is one of the most important aspects of the training
06:43because this is where they can practice their skills in that training.
06:47So, they are taught how to display their products, what is the right lighting, things like that.
06:55Because, of course, they are small micro-entrepreneurs,
06:57they can't afford to get help from their employers.
07:01That's right.
07:03So, those are the basics that we teach in the training.
07:05The second part is how to talk to the buyers,
07:09and how to compute the costing and pricing.
07:15So, after the trade fair simulation,
07:17there are actual buyers there.
07:19We invite them.
07:21We build this near the training place,
07:25and then they are given the chance to display their products,
07:29to entertain buyers,
07:31and to sell.
07:33They can really sell there.
07:35And then after that, we will give them feedback on where they need to improve.
07:39Okay.
07:41Ma'am, you said that you are also giving a cash grant of P25,000.
07:45But, of course, P25,000 is a bit small at that time.
07:49So, first of all, how will you choose the recipients?
07:53And what are the recipients?
07:55What are the businesses for the benefit of our countrymen?
07:57And do we also have a loan?
07:59Because you need capital.
08:01This C-Partner,
08:03it's a multi-million business for her clothes.
08:07I want to go to SB Corp.
08:09SB Corp.
08:11Do you still need money?
08:13Actually, we have a program.
08:15Because we also help.
08:17We have employees.
08:19That's why we have a partnership with SB Corp.
08:21that we are doing now.
08:23So, anyway, we will talk about that later on.
08:25But to your question, sir,
08:27about the cash grant of P25,000,
08:29it's good this year
08:31because before,
08:33they will only give P3,000
08:35for the cash grant of P25,000.
08:37Now, it has become P10,000.
08:39To really encourage the micro-entrepreneurs.
08:41So, here,
08:43we have a panel of judges
08:45that we are hiring
08:47to judge those
08:49who pitch their business ideas
08:51and products.
08:53Based on the criteria of innovation,
08:55of course, we know that
08:57we need to be innovative,
08:59sustainability, and even the potential to grow.
09:01Those are the ones who become the basis.
09:03And this is a huge help
09:05so that they can add more.
09:07Now, to your question
09:09about the cash grant,
09:11maximum of P500,000.
09:13From your receipt?
09:15No, from our partner
09:17Banko,
09:19BPI Direct.
09:21Banko Direct.
09:23We are a partner of the BPI Foundation.
09:25We have been doing this for 10 years.
09:27Okay, so what you are saying is
09:29if you are one of the 10
09:31who received the P25,000 cash grant,
09:33it means that the panel of judges
09:35has already reviewed it.
09:37It's worthy of support
09:39and their business plan is good.
09:41And they can use
09:43these documents
09:45to get a business loan
09:47from BPI.
09:49So, it's one of the basis
09:51to evaluate the loan
09:53that will be applied
09:55by micro-entrepreneurs.
09:57Are you a partner? Did you get a loan?
09:59Or did you ask your parents?
10:01All of us.
10:03All of you?
10:05No, of course,
10:07my mom will get mad if she sees this.
10:09Actually, all of us
10:11started Nina in a Belt.
10:13Really?
10:15My clothing line is hand-woven clothes
10:17now.
10:19Hand-woven things.
10:21So, please help us.
10:23Not only us,
10:25many of us are helping
10:27with our traditional fabrics.
10:29Okay, what is the next step
10:31of the SEAL Beta Program
10:33after this
10:35is launched in Cebu City?
10:37And how can micro-entrepreneurs
10:39join the next
10:41SEAL Beta Program?
10:43After Cebu,
10:45we have another
10:47program in Buanga City
10:49this October
10:51in Pampanga and Tuguegarao.
10:53This year,
10:55we have four runs
10:57in different parts of the region.
10:59Now, to join,
11:01they can contact
11:03us and DTI
11:05regional offices that I mentioned.
11:07And to join here,
11:09their business should be
11:11more than two years.
11:13They run for two years.
11:15And their
11:17asset size is not more than 2 million.
11:19So, they are qualified
11:21to join.
11:23So, it is important
11:25for our countrymen to know
11:27because the benefit
11:29they can get from this program is clear.
11:31How can they contact you?
11:33How can we be interested?
11:35Where are the places? In Buanga.
11:37In Buanga, Pampanga and Tuguegarao.
11:39So, I would suppose you have a DTI regional office
11:41in Tuguegarao,
11:43in Angeles,
11:45or San Fernando,
11:47and in Buanga City.
11:49So, when you go to DTI
11:51and the
11:53Philippine Training Center,
11:55it's just here in Pasay, right?
11:57Yes, sir.
11:59Do you have a telephone number?
12:01I just have my own telephone.
12:030917.
12:05Is that okay?
12:070917.
12:094338125.
12:11And our email is
12:13learn at pttc.gov.ph.
12:15learn at pttc.gov.ph.
12:17Okay, we will look for it.
12:19And maybe they will just type
12:21the keywords, the SEAL Beta Program.
12:23How can this SEAL Beta
12:25help in the development
12:27of the economy in the regions?
12:29Because of the training
12:31that we give them,
12:33and if they can get a scholarship,
12:35they can expand
12:37their business.
12:39And because of that, of course,
12:41they will employ more people.
12:43So, in that aspect,
12:45we can surely help
12:47in the local economy.
12:49Okay. So, to our countrymen
12:51who are watching
12:53our program,
12:55this is your opportunity
12:57to be helped by our government
12:59to develop your business.
13:01Your business needs two years.
13:03Your assets need two years.
13:05Ma'am, what if the assets
13:07don't reach 2 million?
13:09It's okay.
13:11It won't exceed.
13:13Sorry, it won't exceed.
13:15Because we are small.
13:17We don't have millions.
13:19I doubt it.
13:21I don't believe it.
13:23Okay, ma'am.
13:25Message to our countrymen
13:27who are watching us now.
13:29To our listeners,
13:31from the Philippine Trade Training Center,
13:33let's not stop
13:35looking for opportunities
13:37to learn, especially
13:39because there are a lot of things
13:41we can do to make a living
13:43or do business in this age
13:45of digitalization.
13:47One important
13:49ingredient is
13:51to take advantage
13:53of the available training programs
13:55offered by the government
13:57and also online.
13:59There are a lot of
14:01learning resources
14:03that we can use
14:05to make our business
14:07grow and expand
14:09and give a livelihood
14:11to our countrymen.
14:13Thank you very much for your time,
14:15Maria Faye Avila, OIC
14:17Executive Director of DTI
