00:00Galaxy S23 Ultra versus Galaxy S22 Ultra.
00:05In this video, I'm going to compare them in every single way possible to find out which
00:11one is the better deal, and therefore, which one you should buy.
00:14As always, let's begin by talking a little bit about the exterior design, which, as you
00:19can see, is very similar in both phones, not to say almost identical, with the only small
00:25difference that the S23 looks a little bit more simple, a little bit more minimalistic,
00:31which is kind of the current trend in terms of design.
00:33Although, as I said, the S22 is practically identical, changes are microscopical, and
00:40in general, the two phones have a more than decent design.
00:43In fact, in my humble opinion, this is the best design I've ever seen on a Samsung phone
00:48ever.
00:49So I'm going to give both the point in terms of design and move on to the processor, which
00:54is a feature that's not so similar between the two phones.
00:58On one hand, we have the S22 with the Snapdragon 8 Generation 1, which is last year's top tier
01:03Android processor and currently one of the best processors in the world, although it
01:09has a flaw, quite an ugly flaw, which is that it gets very, very hot when you play games,
01:15when you're using a specific app for a long time, or in general, when you're doing things
01:20that are a little bit demanding with the phone, the processor heats up like hell and
01:24therefore performance drops so the phone can cool down.
01:28This is not a huge deal like a lot of people think it is.
01:31This processor is better than the one on the S21 Ultra.
01:34It is very good.
01:36This overheating issue only affects in certain situations, but it is a problem.
01:41It affects performance.
01:42It makes it a lot worse than it should be, and although Samsung created a very good dissipation
01:47system to make this problem as least problematic as possible, it's still a problem and it creates
01:55a very big gap with the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2, which is the one on the S23 Ultra, which
02:02doesn't have any of those overheating issues on top of having better single core performance
02:08and slightly better multi-core performance.
02:10So it is a considerable improvement over the S22 Ultra because not only it's faster, it's
02:15better, but it doesn't have, as I said, those overheating issues.
02:19So we're going to give the performance point to the S23 and move on to the battery where,
02:24spoiler alert, both phones are insanely good, very, very good, but before we get to the
02:30individual results to see which one is better, I have to tell you that you can find both
02:35the S23 Ultra and the S22 Ultra at a very, very, very good price on Amazon.
02:42You can find a direct link in the description, so if at the end of the video you decide whether
02:46you want to buy the S23 or the S22, you can check the prices there because they're way
02:50better than the ones on the official Samsung store.
02:53But anyways, let's talk about the battery, that as you can see, although, as I said earlier,
02:57is very good on both phones, it's a little bit better on the S23 Ultra with between 5
03:02to 10% more battery capacity to be precise.
03:06And this is very interesting because they both have the same 5000 mAh battery unit,
03:11so you would think by the specs, by the numbers, they would have around the same battery life.
03:17But because the S23 doesn't have those overheating issues, because the processor is more optimized,
03:23and because it has, we'll talk about it later, a better refresh rate panel that adapts to
03:30the content you're consuming, better display technology, it also saves a little bit more
03:37battery life there, and it ends up having between 5 to 10% more battery.
03:41So let's give the battery points to the S23 and continue by talking a little bit about
03:46the display, starting with the S23, which has a 6.8-inch OLED panel with 1750 nits of
03:54brightness, very good brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus II protection, the best smartphone
04:00glass you can get right now, which are almost identical specs to the ones we can find on
04:04the S22 Ultra, which also has a 6.8-inch OLED panel with 1750 nits of brightness, but
04:11it has the normal Gorilla Glass Victus, not the second-generation Victus.
04:16Sure, the S23 Ultra is better, but I'm going to give both phones the point in the display
04:22category because the differences are so tiny, so, so tiny between Gorilla Glass Victus II
04:28and one that I don't think it's even worth it to notice or to acknowledge.
04:33And finally, it's time to talk about the main feature, the most important component
04:38for the vast majority of people, which is the camera unit.
04:42In the S23, we have four cameras, a 200-megapixel main camera, very crazy megapixel count, two
04:5010-megapixel zoom cameras, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide, which is exactly the same we can
04:55find on the S22 Ultra, although it only, quote-unquote, only has 108 megapixels instead
05:02of 200 on the main camera.
05:04And although, in general, both phones are very, very good in terms of camera, video,
05:09and everything, I've noticed a couple of very nice improvements on the S23 camera as opposed
05:14to the S22.
05:16For example, here on the main camera, I've noticed how the sensor lets in more light,
05:20there's more detail, and overall, pictures look a little bit better and more crispy.
05:25Although that may be due to a change in the processing technique.
05:28To be completely honest, I don't distinguish the changes at a first glance.
05:32I have to put them side by side, zoom in, look closely, and reason out the small differences
05:37I find because otherwise I wouldn't be able to declare a winner.
05:41Which is the same thing I can tell you about the zoom camera.
05:44I see changes that are more or less noticeable depending on the picture, but they are not
05:48big enough to see right away.
05:50Where I haven't noticed any differences is in the ultrawide camera.
05:54I think both phones have the same sensor, and I don't think Samsung has updated any
05:59of the other camera components on the S23 because these photos look almost identical.
06:03And the small differences you can see are probably due to the slight angle changes or
06:07camera settings when taking the photo because remember, the two cameras are in automatic
06:12mode so you don't really ever know the ISO, aperture, and all that stuff when you're taking
06:16the picture.
06:46I always say this, camera differences are going to get smaller and smaller and smaller
06:55as time goes by because there's a physical size limitation.
06:59There is a reason why professional cinematography cameras are this big, is because the bigger
07:05the sensor, the more light that gets in, and the better image, the more detail you can
07:10get.
07:11Phones are very small and they have very small sensors.
07:14There's a limitation, a physical limitation there, so it's normal that the two phones
07:18are very similar and probably the S24 Ultra is also going to be almost identical.
07:23And well, everything I've said also applies to video, of course.
07:27The S23 Ultra looks a little bit better, a little bit more crispy, maybe better colors,
07:32but you have to put them side by side and pay very close attention to see those differences.
07:37I see a lot of people still to this day in 2023 get way too excited about megapixel counts.
07:43Oh, the S23 has 200 megapixels and the S22 only has 100.
07:48That means it's twice as good.
07:50No, it's not twice as good.
07:51Actually, if you buy an S23 Ultra, you're going to take 12 megapixel photos.
07:56If you buy an S22 Ultra, you're going to take 12 megapixel photos.
08:00They all end up taking between 12 and 16 megapixel pictures because that's the perfect ratio
08:05size sensor size and megapixels to take a good looking photo.
08:09So in conclusion, I don't want to get too technical, but it doesn't really matter.
08:13The megapixel count is just marketing.
08:16I'm going to give a half a point more to the S23 Ultra, which, as you can see, has a total
08:21of 2.5 more points than the S22.
08:24Obviously, it is a newer phone.
08:26It is more expensive, so it has to be better.
08:29I can't really declare a winner.
08:30To be honest, I think, as I said at the beginning of the video, one of them is a little bit
08:34better, but a little bit more expensive.
08:36The other one is a little bit worse, but a little bit cheaper.
08:39I don't really know what to say.
08:40I think they're both amazing, and it's time for you to decide.
08:43I can't really give you a solid answer.
08:46What I can tell you is that both phones have very, very, very good prices on Amazon.
08:51There's direct links in the description for both of the phones.
08:53Trust me, don't get them on the Samsung's website.
