00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be comparing the Galaxy S22 to the S24.
00:05Is this actually worth the upgrade here?
00:08That's what we're going to find out.
00:10And yeah, I really like the S22 for this price point that it's at in the used refurbished
00:15marketplace.
00:16It's around 300 bucks, which I think is a really good price for a phone like this.
00:21So let's go ahead and get started here.
00:23So the first thing we're going to talk about is the hardware difference.
00:26There's not a big hardware difference here with these two phones.
00:29Obviously, you can see that Samsung got rid of the cutout and they switched to just the
00:34camera lens, as you can see, which looks really nice, but they look very similar, feel very
00:40similar in the hand.
00:41One thing that I noticed is that the S24 is definitely way more boxier and sharper.
00:47So it's not as comfortable to hold as the S22, which is a lot smoother.
00:52And yeah, they're both the same size and they also pretty much feel like the same weight
00:57as well too.
00:58Those are the only essential differences here with the hardware.
01:01They both have the matte finish and they're both IP68 dust and water resistant as well.
01:05Alright, so let's talk about the displays here.
01:08The displays are almost the same here.
01:11On the S22, it has a 6.1 inch display compared to the S24's 6.2 inch display.
01:17So you probably can't tell, but it's a slightly bigger display as well.
01:22So there's some minor differences here.
01:25So the S24 is LTPO Dynamic AMOLED, it's 120Hz, HDR10+.
01:31There is a difference between max brightness.
01:33You do have 2600 nits peak brightness on the S24 versus the 1300 nits peak brightness on
01:39the S22.
01:40For resolution, they're essentially the same here, they're both 1080p displays and they're
01:45both, well, the S24 has a lower PPI of 416 versus the S22, 425.
01:54As far as the screen to bezel ratio and all that, it's pretty much the same for the most
02:00part.
02:01You won't be able to tell.
02:02Color wise and everything still pretty much looks the same.
02:04Like I said, so the two major differences here with the display is actually that the
02:09S24 is LTPO and it has a higher max brightness in direct sunlight.
02:14That is pretty much it.
02:15So I don't think the display upgrade is really upgrade worthy for the most part because it's
02:22just a minor difference.
02:23Now the LTPO display is going to help when it comes to battery life and we'll get to
02:27that in a second, but yeah, you will have much better battery life on the S24, something
02:32that I pretty much noticed right off RIP using these two devices.
02:37Alright, so let's talk about the specs a little bit more here.
02:40So the S22 is running Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and then it also got the Android 14 update.
02:46I just haven't updated to it yet.
02:48But yeah, you do have, when you watch 6 on here, you also have 128 gigs of internal storage,
02:548 gigs of RAM.
02:55The S24 does have Android 14 and one thing to note about the software is that you will
03:01get 7 years of majorless updates with the S24 so that is also something to note.
03:06It has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and then you have 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs
03:11of RAM on the base model.
03:13You can see the Geekbench scores.
03:14There's a really big difference here with the multi-core and the single-core here.
03:20But yeah, so I would say that the experience with the speed and smoothness is virtually
03:27no difference, right?
03:29It really, really feels exactly the same.
03:32So like I said, if you're just an average person, even if you're somebody who's like
03:36a tech enthusiast, there's no way you can tell a difference between these two phones.
03:40It's impossible.
03:43Now, like animation and stuff, they just feel pretty much on par.
03:50The thing here is that, and they should, I don't know why they won't, but so far they
03:55said they haven't, but they should really bring these AI features to the S22 because
04:02it can definitely handle it for the most part with the live interpretations, the Samsung
04:07internet, the photo editor, all the cool AI stuff, the circle to search as well too, which
04:13is really cool.
04:15And yeah, I think they should definitely bring that because it's something that I really
04:20like.
04:21I think the circle to search is really, it's a very cool, very convenient thing to have.
04:26But yeah, they're not going to bring it to the S22 so far.
04:30For what we know now, it's only the S23 series.
04:33Let's actually get into PUBG here, a little PUBG speed test here.
04:39Like I said, it might get into games faster, the S24, but I really doubt it.
04:51Looks like...
04:56Yeah, so it was a little bit faster, but like I said, it's barely noticeable.
05:03And with gaming performance, I'm going to let you know right off the rip here, I'm not
05:07sure about the Xenos models, we only get the Snapdragon ones over here, but I don't
05:14think the gaming performance is going to be that big of a difference either.
05:17Where the chipset really comes in clutch here on the S24 is that the battery life is significantly
05:23better on the S24.
05:25So if you're somebody who plays a lot of games, it's not necessarily that you're going to
05:28get better performance.
05:30For the most part, you're just going to get better screen on time, you won't have to run
05:35to the battery.
05:36And also, the Agent 1 will probably most likely heat up a little bit more than this newer
05:42chipset here, but we can play 90 frames on here, everything is super smooth, and this
05:49should support 90 frames, I'm not sure.
05:54Yeah, it also has the 90 frames update.
05:56So like I said, the big difference here with the chipset is that it is going to, one, heat
06:01up less, and then two, the battery life is just going to be overall better.
06:05As far as the actual performance, not that big of a difference for me, especially as
06:11a casual gamer.
06:12I really don't experience heating problems at all, but again, I don't play games for
06:16hours and hours.
06:17So yeah, it's definitely something to think about if you're someone who's a hardcore gamer.
06:23Is there a speaker upgrade?
06:24Let's find out.
06:26Max volume, S24.
06:35Yeah, so I had to turn Dolby Atmos off there so I can get the actual real sound.
07:01The S24 does have a noticeable upgrade.
07:04It is louder, better bass, and it's a cleaner sound.
07:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's definitely louder and has a better bass to it.
07:16So there's a slight upgrade here.
07:19The fingerprint scanners have not been touched, so they are exactly the same, and you can
07:24also do face unlock as well.
07:26Software-wise, like I said, there's no difference on here besides the AI stuff.
07:32Everything else is still virtually the same.
07:34All right, so this is where I think a lot of people might consider upgrading, but looking
07:39at the photos, let me know what you guys think.
07:42I just didn't think it was worth it, but you guys let me know if you see a significant
07:45difference here.
07:47So yeah, so let's go over the specs.
07:48The S24 has a 50 megapixel standard, a 10 megapixel telephoto, three times optical,
07:5412 megapixel ultra-wide, shoots in 8K 24 and 30, and a 12 megapixel selfie, shoots in 4K
08:0160.
08:02The S22 has a 50 megapixel standard, 10 megapixel telephoto, also three times optical, 12 megapixel
08:10ultra-wide.
08:11It shoots in 8K 24, but no 30.
08:14And then we have a 10 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K 60 as well.
08:18So almost identical camera specs here, but let me know what they did.
08:23I saw some improvements, but I just didn't think it was enough to say it was worth an
08:29upgrade.
08:30But let me know what you guys think.
08:31I'm totally off on this.
10:01All right, so let's talk about the absolute biggest update here, and that is going to
10:14be battery life.
10:16Because of the Snapdragon HN3 processor, you will get much better battery life on the S24
10:21here.
10:22It is really, really good, and it is noticeably better.
10:26So I would say that's probably the only reason why you would upgrade here is because the
10:30battery life is better.
10:32But what I'm going to recommend here is that if you do have an S22 and battery life, you
10:38don't really like the battery, and that's your biggest issue.
10:41Or just in general, if you're thinking about upgrading the S22, I would get the S23 because
10:45it is getting the AI stuff, and then the battery life is also pretty good on the S23.
10:51I would not upgrade to the S24.
10:53I would save some money and get the S23.
10:56I honestly would wait it out a few months as well because there's going to be a price
11:00drop as well on the S23.
11:02So for a couple months, I would probably do that, and it just makes way more sense since
11:08the S23 and the S24 are extremely similar, and it's getting the AI stuff.
11:13But yeah, battery life is going to be much better on the S24 here.
11:19It's got a 4,000 mAh battery as well too, and then they pretty much have the same charging
11:23specs, 25 watts, reverse wireless charging.
11:27This one has a slightly smaller battery at 3,700, but it doesn't matter because the chipset
11:32is just so much better on the S24.
11:35So that's pretty much it, guys.
11:38I don't think it's worth the upgrade at all if you have an S22.
11:41If you really want to upgrade for battery life, just get an S23, and you get the AI
11:45stuff.
11:46All right, so that's pretty much it.
11:47Thanks for watching, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
