00:00Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22, the latest high-end phone from Samsung against, well,
00:08last year's high-end phone from Samsung.
00:10In this video, we're going to compare them in all possible ways to find out which one
00:15of them is the better deal, and therefore, which one you should buy.
00:18As always, let's begin by talking about the exterior design, which, as you can see, is
00:23very similar in both phones, not to say almost identical, with the only small difference
00:29that the S23 looks a little bit more simple, a little bit more minimalistic, which is kind
00:34of the current trend in terms of design.
00:37Although, as I said, the S22 is practically identical, changes are absolutely microscopical,
00:44and in general, the two phones have a more than decent design.
00:47In fact, in my humble opinion, this is the best design I've seen on a Samsung phone ever.
00:54It looks and feels very good, and of course, this goes for both the S23 and the S22.
01:00So let's give both the point in the design category, and move on to the processor, which
01:06is a feature that's not so similar between the two phones.
01:10On one hand, we have the S22 with the Snapdragon 8th generation 1, which is last year's top-tier
01:16Android processor, and currently, one of the best processors in the world, although it
01:22has a flaw, quite an ugly flaw, actually, which is that it gets very hot.
01:28When you play games, when you're using a specific app for a long time, or in general, when you're
01:33doing things that are a bit demanding with the phone, the processor heats up like hell,
01:39and therefore, performance has to drop so the phone can cool down.
01:42And well, quote-unquote, thankfully, Samsung thought of this in advance, and they designed
01:48the S22 with a good thermal system, with a good heat dissipation mechanism, so even
01:54though the processor was going to get very hot, the phone sort of counteracted that effect.
02:00But even then, the phone gets very hot, and it has to throttle, so performance suffers
02:06greatly, and therefore, it sits well behind the Apple alternative from that year, which
02:11is the A15.
02:12Which is not an issue on the S23, because it has the next-generation processor, the
02:18Snapdragon 8 Generation 2, that no longer had those problems, in addition to improving
02:24single-core performance by a bunch, and multi-core performance a decent amount.
02:29So yeah, the S23 has a considerable improvement in overall performance.
02:33It's faster, it's more powerful, and it doesn't have any of those throttling issues.
02:38So we're going to give the performance point to the S23, and move on to the battery category,
02:44which, spoiler alert, there is a clear winner out of these two phones.
02:49It's the one you would probably expect.
02:51But first, I would like to tell you that both phones on Amazon right now have a very, very
02:57juicy price.
02:58I left links for both phones in the description, just in case at the end of the video, you
03:02decide which one you want to buy, and you want to buy it at a good price, you can get
03:06it in the description.
03:08But anyways, that being said, let's move on to the battery, where, as you can see here,
03:12and as I said before, there is a clear winner.
03:15The S23 has a noticeably better battery life, between 15 and 20% more, to be precise.
03:21Both because it has a 3900 mAh battery instead of the 3700 mAh on the S22, and because the
03:29phone is more optimized.
03:31In fact, remember the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2?
03:34Well, it's actually called Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 for Samsung, because Samsung optimized it,
03:41tweaked it, specifically for their phones, so it worked better on their phones.
03:46So that extra optimization, on top of improving performance, also helps for the phone to be
03:51more optimal, to spend less power, therefore have a longer-lasting battery life.
03:57So let's get the point to the S23, and continue by talking a little bit about the display.
04:03Starting with the S23, which has a 6.1-inch OLED panel, with 1750 nits of brightness,
04:10very crazy, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, the best smartphone glass you can get right
04:16now.
04:17Which, of course, are better specs than the ones you can find on the S22, which also has
04:20a 6.1-inch OLED panel, but with only 1300 nits of brightness, and normal Gorilla Glass
04:28Victus, not the second-generation Victus.
04:31Which, I mean, the Gorilla Glass Victus 1 or 2 doesn't really matter, but the extra
04:34brightness is very noticeable, going from 1300 to 1750 nits is very noticeable, especially
04:42outdoors.
04:43You know, you all know that if the sun is directly facing your phone in the summer,
04:47a lot of times you can't really see anything.
04:49If you have an older phone, or if your phone doesn't have a lot of brightness, you have
04:53to go to like a shaded area, or you're not gonna see what's in your phone.
04:56So let's give another half a point to the S23, only a half a point because it's not
05:01that big of a deal, 1300 was already very good.
05:04And we move on to the main feature, to the most important component for the vast majority
05:09of people, which is the camera unit.
05:11In the S23, we have three cameras, a 50-megapixel main lens, a 10-megapixel zoom lens, and a
05:1812-megapixel ultrawide, which is exactly the same as we can find on the S22, with a 50-megapixel
05:25main, 10-megapixel zoom, and 12-megapixel ultrawide.
05:29And although in general they are very, very good, I have noticed a couple of very nice
05:34improvements on the S23 camera as opposed to the S22.
05:38For example, here in the main camera, I've noticed how the sensor lets in more light,
05:43which means there's more detail, and overall pictures look a little bit more crispy.
05:48To be completely honest, I can't really distinguish the changes at a first glance.
05:52I have to put them side by side, zoom in, look closely, reason out the small differences
05:58I find, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to declare a winner.
06:01Which is the same thing that I can tell you about the zoom camera.
06:04I see changes, which are more or less noticeable depending on the picture, but they are not
06:09big enough to be seen right away.
06:11Where I haven't really noticed any changes is in the ultrawide camera.
06:15I think both phones have the same sensor, and I don't think Samsung has updated any
06:19of the other camera components on the S23, because these photos look almost identical.
06:25And all of the small differences you see are probably due to the slight angle changes or
06:30the camera settings taking the photo, because let's remember the two cameras are in automatic
06:34mode, meaning you don't really know the ISO or the aperture that the camera is using.
06:39Which is completely normal, you know, cameras are improving less and less every year because
06:43there's a cap with the sensor size.
06:46Unless you make a bigger phone with a bigger sensor and a bigger lens, it's impossible
06:51for you to take better pictures.
06:53Actually nowadays most of the photo is the post-processing, because the photo itself,
06:58the photo that the camera takes, can only be good enough if the sensor is very tiny.
07:02So it's fine, it's normal, it's not a bad thing that both phones are almost identical.
07:07Well, it's not a good thing either, but what I'm trying to say is that it's a common thing
07:11in all other smartphones and all other brands.
07:14And well, everything I just told you applies to the video, it applies to nighttime photography,
07:20and it applies to the selfie mode where, well, let's be clear, the S23 has two more megapixels
07:27than the S22.
07:28It has 12 megapixels and the S22 has only 10.
07:32But to be completely honest, I'm not able to see the improvements that should be there
07:36because there's more megapixels, I guess.
07:39And well, besides all of this, both phones record video at 8K, which is absolutely insane.
07:44I don't really know what kind of user needs to record 8K video, but the two phones can
07:48do it.
07:49And well, they can also record video in ultra slow motion at 960 FPS, which is not very
07:55useful either, but it's very fun if you want to mess around with a camera, record stuff
08:01in slow motion, record things that you're naked eye can't see.
08:04It's fun, it's a fun feature, not functional, but it's fun.
08:07It's cool.
08:08So I'm going to give a half a point more to the S23.
08:12In total, as you can see, the S23 has three more points and of course that makes it the
08:16better phone.
08:17Surprise, of course, it's a newer phone, it has to be better.
08:20Now the question is, for $200 more, which is the extra money you're going to have to
08:26pay to get the S23 as opposed to the S22, are all of those changes worth it enough?
08:31Yes.
08:32In this case, I would say yes, because the Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 was not so good
08:37and the battery life is very appreciated, the brightness is very appreciated.
08:41I think the changes we've seen on the S23 are very functional, they're very good, they're
08:46very noticeable for the user, so I think this time it is worth it to pay a little bit more
08:50money to get the S23.
08:52But remember, both phones have a very, very good price on Amazon.
08:55I left direct links in the description.
