00:00Meanwhile, with the registration of candidates for next year's midterm polls over,
00:05the poll body has its work cut out for itself to separate the grain from the chaff
00:11so as to speak and finalize the list of legitimate candidates for the 2025 national and local elections.
00:18Our Luisa Errizpe narrates the details in this report.
00:24Now that the filing of candidacies for the 2025 national and local elections has ended,
00:29the Commission on Elections began its task to finalize the names of the candidates for the
00:34next year's polls. According to the Commission on Elections, this task officially started today.
00:46According to the poll body, compared to the previous elections,
00:50this year's number of aspirants for the Senate seat exceeded expectations. 183
00:56aspiring candidates are competing for the 12 Senate seats up for the grabs. But the
01:01Comalik assured they will be thoroughly reviewing all the COCs filed before their office. Though
01:08most of them file their COCs as independent candidates, they will be carefully evaluated
01:13and not summarily declared as nuisance candidates.
01:27The Comalik also has to resolve and determine the political parties that endorsed more than 12
01:43candidates whether they fall under independent candidates. Another thing is that some political
01:49parties and party lists have factions causing confusion on which candidates are truly endorsed
01:55by their peers so they can be declared officially as nominees, such as the case with the Workers and
02:01Peasants Party, many of whose members were completely unaware KOJC leader Apollo Quibuloy
02:08was one of their aspirants. This is also the problem with Magsasaka Party List,
02:13which wound up with three sets of 10 nominees.
02:26By next month, the Comalik is expected to release the final list of candidates for next year's
02:42polls. Meanwhile, the Comalik said roughly 43,000 in total filed their COCs over the week-long
02:50period. And despite gunfire incidents, the Comalik still declared a COC filing event
02:56as generally peaceful. One incident is not a reflection of the entire country.
03:08The filing of the candidacy in the entire country is so peaceful and orderly.
03:13Meanwhile, the Comalik explained what transpired on the firing incident in Sharif Aguak,
03:18Maguindanao, Del Sur. The poll bodies stressed the aspirants has a standing warrant of arrest,
03:24which is why he was arrested by authorities. As a result, the Comalik will deploy more law
03:30enforcement in the area to keep peace and order intact.
03:48The Comalik did not declare the municipality as an election hotspot as of yet,
04:05but will thoroughly monitor the area even before the election period.
