00:02Today we are reviewing a movie from 2018 called Incident in a Ghost Land.
00:10The movie starts with a story of a three-member family that comes to a small town
00:13to move into their new house that was left to them by their late aunt Clares.
00:18Here we meet our main characters,
00:20Beth, who is a dreamer and ambitious novelist,
00:23and Verum, who is a realist, and they are all nonsensical.
00:26Right at the beginning, we can say that the sisterly relationship is very mild.
00:29Verum mistreats Beth because she is such a dreamer and her head is always in the clouds,
00:33instead of really looking at the world.
00:35Anyway, their beloved mother Pauline always defends Beth.
00:38She is surprised that a truck with sweets is passing by them,
00:41and a mysterious figure is waving from it.
00:43Beth and Pauline naively wave back,
00:45while Verum awkwardly shows her middle finger.
00:48After that, they put Beth in the store on the way home,
00:50and Beth looks at the truck with sweets with which they had gone before.
00:54She then runs into the local newspaper,
00:56with a headline that says that the city is currently suffering from a serial killer,
00:59who comes to houses and kills grown-up people,
01:01but saves the children.
01:03Beth decides not to worry about that,
01:05and the three of them return to the road.
01:07They arrive at the house, and set out on a journey.
01:09We can see that every possible room is filled with antique jewelry and disgusting dolls.
01:14Shortly after that, we see Beth crying,
01:16prompting her mother to jump in to help her.
01:19We discover that she has taken out her monthly allowance.
01:23Vera, who thinks that Beth is exaggerating,
01:25goes outside and talks to her mother.
01:28The older sister says that Beth is a big, delusional crybaby,
01:31because she spends most of her time writing mysterious stories,
01:34and thinking about becoming a famous writer.
01:38This slightly worries their mother,
01:40who thinks that Vera is too strict towards Beth.
01:42While the three of them are preparing for the night,
01:44the truck slowly stops in front of their house.
01:47When Pauline has gone to leave some boxes,
01:49the phone rings.
01:53Suddenly, a big man attacks the mother,
01:55and hits her with a porcelain ball.
01:57Then he climbs down, captures the sisters,
01:59and drags them into the basement.
02:01On the way, we find out that the man is not working alone.
02:03He has accomplices.
02:09The man starts to smell the food,
02:11and so he finds out that Beth has her monthly allowance,
02:13and goes to Vera.
02:17Now that Beth is alone,
02:20Beth tries to find a way to escape.
02:23Just then, she encounters an accomplice who attacks her.
02:26When, fortunately, the mother violently attacks the accomplice,
02:29she is exasperated and distraught.
02:32In the meantime, Beth hides and is unable to help,

03:02and a grown-up Beth wakes up from a nightmare.
03:05She finds her husband, and her throat is tight,
03:07and then we find out that Beth is still chasing
03:09that encounter with the killers.
03:11It turns out that Beth is a successful writer
03:13of mysterious novels,
03:15and it seems that she lives a perfect life.
03:18Her last book is called
03:20The Incident in the Land of the Spirits,
03:22inspired by the events that have happened
03:24to her and her family in the past.
03:26That night, Beth gets a call from Vera,
03:28who sounds worried.
03:30It is clear that Vera has mental problems,
03:32which are most likely caused by their traumas from the past.
03:36Worried, Beth packs up and decides to go home,
03:39where the incident took place.
03:41The mother is eagerly waiting,
03:43and it seems that she is still alive,

03:47about mentally unstable Vera.

03:51she hears sounds coming from the basement,
03:53which forces her to check on Vera,

05:27Confused, Beth runs up the stairs
05:29and sees how Vera is shaking her hands,
05:31as if she is fighting someone.
05:33Her fingers look like they are broken
05:35and twisted.
05:37Then she goes downstairs and tries to call for help,
05:39while Beth tries to get Vera back.
05:41Beth then hears a noise from the basement
05:43and assumes that it is Vera
05:45who locked herself in, but then
05:47she hears the voice of the accomplice
05:49coming from the basement
05:51and it is not a big man.
05:53Fortunately, it is just her imagination.
05:55Beth spends the rest of the night waiting
05:57by the basement doors until she falls asleep.
05:59She wakes up, cuts the bed,
06:01and Beth hears the doors opening,
06:03thinking that it is their mother.
06:05As soon as Beth wakes up,
06:07her body on the touch is not in order.
06:09Her face is covered with bruises
06:11and the house looks dark and cold.
06:13Beth cries and finds Vera in a similar state
06:15in the basement.
06:17Then she blames Vera for everything,
06:19who begs her to wake up.

06:53Beth to stop going crazy
06:55and to return to reality.
06:57The next morning,
06:59Vera warns Beth that psychopaths
07:01are trying to kidnap her
07:03and whatever happens,
07:05she must not move or speak.
07:07Vera kisses her before leaving.
07:09Beth waits inside the closet
07:11and this happens.
07:13The accomplice grabs Beth,
07:15but she defends herself,
07:17forcing the accomplice not to wake her up.
07:19When Beth wakes up,
07:21the accomplice makes her look like a doll.
07:23Beth is then taken to the exhibition room
07:25and the accomplice calls her
07:27with other dolls.
07:29After the accomplice has left,
07:31he climbs on the shelves and puts them in the closet.

07:37the big man climbs out of the closet
07:39and sees all the dolls ready for him.
07:41Then he takes the doll and plays with it.
07:43When the doll makes a sound,
07:45it angers the man who immediately
07:47set it on fire.
07:49This scares Beth even more
07:51when the man takes her next.
07:53The man is furious.
07:55Uncontrollably,
07:57he touches her until the moment
07:59when Beth can no longer stand
08:01and lifts him on her back.
08:03The man then goes crazy
08:05and starts crying in agony
08:07while Beth uses this opportunity
08:09to escape.
08:13He follows her,
08:15but she manages to convince him
08:17with the help of a typewriter.

08:51The man tells his colleagues
08:53that the girls probably ran away
08:55and that the killers are there,
08:57while another policeman
08:59calms Vera and Beth.
09:11But then,
09:13the bullet fired at the accomplice
09:15who then shot at the policewoman.
09:17The policeman was killed by the accomplice
09:19and was taken back to the house.
09:27Then Beth starts to wander again
09:29and sees her wandering.
09:31In the meantime, the accomplice pulls Vera
09:33while she begs Beth to return to reality
09:35and help her.
09:39We return to Beth's imaginary world
09:41where she is a successful woman
09:43who enjoys her fun,
09:45celebrating her new success.
09:47She loves her sister
09:49and follows her from the stairs
09:51when we slowly begin to hear Vera's screams.
09:53Beth desperately wants to help Vera,
09:55but her mother stops her
09:57and asks her to stay with her sister.
10:09Beth doesn't stop there
10:11because she realizes that she loves her sister
10:13and doesn't want to leave her.
10:15But then she sees a man
10:17who shoots her.
10:19Luckily, he is shot by a bullet
10:21giving Beth a chance to save Vera
10:23who is being pressured by the accomplice.
10:25Not caring about anything
10:27except for her sister's life,
10:29Beth tears off the accomplice's skin
10:31with her teeth and continues to beat her on the floor.
10:33The man then enters the room
10:35ready to fight,
10:37but luckily a policeman
10:39comes to save them.
