00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Wind and rain warnings through Wednesday night and into Thursday, all courtesy of an area of
00:09low pressure sitting across Iceland. You can see this weather front here, slow moving,
00:14moving across more northern and western areas. Now this rain warning for western Scotland,
00:18we could see up to around 100 millimetres, particularly over the higher ground into
00:22Thursday, and it's gusty central belt southwards, a wind warning here as well as the northwest of
00:26Wales. Gusts along the coastline could reach 50 miles an hour, so expect some high waves.
00:31This cold front will be slow moving down towards the southeast, so through Thursday,
00:35a legacy of clouds and some patchy rain here. Elsewhere, a mix of cloud and sun and a few
00:39showers as the brunt of the strongest winds clear towards the far north of Scotland.
00:45Now let's backtrack to Wednesday evening and look at the detail. So bright echoes representing some
00:51intense bursts of rain across western Scotland. Northern Ireland seeing perhaps a little bit of
00:56a clearance for a time through evening before this rain returns to the province through into
01:02night time. The rain pushes ever northwards across Shetland, Orkney, eastern Scotland,
01:07and then this is the cold front here you saw on the synoptic chart. It's pushing ever southwards.
01:13Winds will pick up through the early hours of the morning across the Irish sea coast,
01:16and it's still blustery into tomorrow morning across western Scotland. Now for the Midlands,
01:21east Wales, southwards, you'll see a breezy night and also a mostly dry one with more in the way
01:27of cloud here. Temperatures holding around 16 Celsius, but a wet start to the day for northern
01:31England, west Wales, much of Scotland. Northern Ireland seeing that rain clear first thing,
01:36and then the sun will come out. Sunshine also for western Scotland. As you see that rain sliding
01:41down towards the Midlands, east Wales, Lincolnshire through around mid-morning into the afternoon.
01:47So through the afternoon, brightening skies on the back edge of this rain band, and it's going to
01:53be mostly patchy through the latter part of the day. Still windy across the far north of Scotland.
01:58We lose the winds elsewhere, it's a bit breezy even, so that bright weather ends the day. A
02:03lovely end for many areas, and even down towards the southeast you should see some fine weather
02:08before the sun sets. Here are your temperatures then. Up to possibly 18 for the central belt,
02:1417 for Belfast. Now for Cardiff, 19, 20, down towards the southeast with a bit of a breeze to
02:20end the day, 21 degrees Celsius. So that's the picture on Thursday. Here's that next system
02:27coming in into Friday. Again it's going to be windy with some wet weather, and then it clears.
02:32We could see a trailing front towards the southeast on Saturday, again with some outbreaks of rain,
02:37and then showers never too far away into the weekend. But notice a ridge trying to push in
02:42from the south, and what that means. There will be some fine weather around. More details about
02:47that on our 10-day trend issued on Wednesday today. So let's take a look at the detail through
02:53Thursday evening. Here's that band of cloud and rain moving in. Again we'll like to see some heavy
02:59pulses. The distribution of the rain is further south this time, and there was strong winds,
03:04particularly for the West Country, Irish Sea Coast, Wales, and that rain could be heavy at times. But
03:08we hang on to some drier, brighter weather towards the far northwest of Scotland. Through the
03:12afternoon the rain clears to allow some sunshine to come through, and also a scattering of showers.
03:17Now come Saturday, watch out for some stronger winds towards the northwest of Scotland.
03:22Again we could see a bit more cloud towards eastern counties with the odd spot or two of rain.
03:26Elsewhere, never too far away from a few showers. I'll see you later.
