Transcript
00:00Hello there. Welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Our attention is focused on a slow-moving weather front which will deliver wet weather
00:09across the West Country, Wales, Northern England and Scotland over the next 24 hours.
00:14Here's your bigger picture. Let's pick up on that front.
00:17You can see it's not moving very far, very fast.
00:20Eventually, though, we'll see some waves develop on it
00:23as gradually it sinks down towards the southeast, triggering some thunderstorms.
00:28And then we'll see a ridge come in across many parts on Thursday.
00:32Still a few showers lurking out there.
00:34And then all change through the weekend across the far northwest.
00:38More about that in a moment.
00:40Let's backtrack now to Tuesday evening,
00:43where we can pick up on this rain just moving in across Wales,
00:46clipping the far north of the West Country,
00:49extending towards Liverpool Bay, Greater Manchester, Lancashire,
00:53as well as Northern Council of England.
00:55Some showery bursts then just move in across Scotland.
00:58Whereas for Northern Ireland, it will be a fine end to the night
01:01after a little showery rain to start the evening.
01:04And towards the southeast, dry but very muggy.
01:07Temperatures holding here around 17 or 18, so an uncomfortable night.
01:12First thing then on Wednesday morning,
01:14showery rain across central and eastern areas of Scotland.
01:17We could even see some quite heavy bursts for a time across the Western Isles.
01:22Fine start for Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.
01:24We run into this showery rain across Northern Council of England.
01:27It's fairly sporadic.
01:28And then this rain extends down towards the southwest,
01:30where waiting in the wings will be another heavy pulse.
01:33Towards the east, despite the fact we'll see the clouds come and go through the day,
01:38it's going to be very warm, if not hot, with some sunshine coming through.
01:42So through the morning, this is that weather front,
01:44extending yet again, some more rain across Wales,
01:47clipping the West Midlands towards Yorkshire, Derbyshire,
01:50as well as the northeast of England.
01:53The rain does clear eastern Scotland with a few showers to follow.
01:57And one or two showers can't be ruled out across Northern Ireland,
02:00but we should see some fine conditions here.
02:02Some showers then develop across Lincolnshire, central, southern parts of England,
02:06but mostly dry, whereas across this zone here,
02:10you'll see a marked difference in temperatures,
02:12where you see the cloud and the rain, 20, 21 degrees Celsius.
02:15Towards the southeast, 29, even 30,
02:18and feeling pleasantly warm across Scotland and Northern Ireland through the afternoon,
02:22where temperatures will reach the low 20s.
02:25And then here's your broader picture through Thursday.
02:28Thunderstorms are a risk on Thursday across the southeast,
02:31and then a slight ridge coming in, a little bit of showery rain on Friday,
02:34but things do tend to settle down.
02:37We'll see a few showers, so that really marks the beginning of the weekend.
02:41Through the end of the weekend, though,
02:42another weather system comes in from the Atlantic,
02:45delivering cloud and rain to Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
02:49So here's your city's list on Thursday.
02:52Remember those thunderstorms towards the southeast.
02:55Elsewhere, a few showers, but also some fine and dry weather.
02:58And day on day, temperatures not as high,
03:01still very warm across the southeast, pleasantly warm elsewhere,
03:04again with a few scattered showers.
03:07And that's pretty much how we see the beginning of the weekend,
03:09but towards the end, it's worth noting,
03:11we'll see some rain arriving across the northwest.
03:14Bye bye.
