21 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Quite a contrast in the weather across the country today, warm and sunny across the south,
00:05wet and quite windy across the far northwest. Here's the latest radar imagery. So through
00:11the early hours, lots of showers across northwest Scotland and further south, we had a few too.
00:16But this line of rain has been moving in. That's a weather front that's going to make
00:20for a very wet day over the Western Isles and the far northwest of the mainland of Scotland,
00:24quite blustery over the northwest highlands too. The breeze picking up a little over northern
00:28Britain generally with a bit of cloud and the odd scattered shower. But much of the south, dry,
00:33fine, sunny and really quite warm across East Anglia and the southeast. Temperatures 25,
00:3826 degrees Celsius. Generally elsewhere, we'll creep into the low 20s, feeling a little cooler
00:43as that wind continues to strengthen. Could see a few more showers during this evening,
00:48possibly even one or two heavy ones across parts of Wales and then for a time over northern
00:53England. But they'll be pretty well scattered. The rain will edge south across Scotland and
00:58northern Ireland, breaking up as it does so, but making for a damp and windy night
01:03across Scotland and northern Ireland. Further south, the winds will be fairly light, could
01:06be a bit of mist and fog across the southeast once more. And it will be a pretty warm night
01:10right across the UK, with temperatures holding up at 14 or 15 Celsius in towns and cities.
01:16On to Tuesday again, a pretty mixed picture. Generally, there'll be a lot of cloud across
01:20Scotland and spreading south through northern Ireland, northern England, with some outbreaks
01:24of rain pushing into north Wales too. The rain tending to break up a little bit, so
01:29it won't rain all day. More showery in nature, if anything, and probably turning a little
01:33drier after a wet start across the far northwest, certainly drier than today, although staying
01:39fairly breezy. As you can see, it's a scattering of showers come the afternoon across most
01:44areas. But the far south of England, East Anglia, much of the Midlands likely to stay
01:49dry with some decent spells of sunshine. It'll feel pretty warm again here with temperatures
01:54again getting into the mid-20s, 26, even 27 Celsius, just about possible. For most
02:00places, we're going to be a little cooler tomorrow compared to today, with a bit more
02:04cloud around the temperatures across Scotland, northern Ireland, high teens in many locations.
02:09So feeling a little cooler here, especially with that breeze continuing to strengthen.
02:14The rest of the week, well, we'll continue to see a few scattered showers coming into
02:18the northwest. Things do get more complicated towards the end of the week, quite a bit of
02:22uncertainty about that. For more details on that, if you've got plans this week, catch
02:27our full week ahead forecast. That'll be available on YouTube by Monday afternoon.
