12 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello again. An extreme heat warning has been issued for Sunday and Monday because of exceptionally
00:05high temperatures expected to develop through Sunday and into the start of next week. More
00:11than 32 Celsius for much of England and Wales, mid to possibly high 30s and those kinds of
00:17temperatures unusual if not unprecedented in the UK could cause impacts to infrastructure
00:25and to the health of the population. But before we get there for the rest of Tuesday it's actually
00:30turning cooler for a time across northern parts of the UK. A weak cold front pushing through
00:35that has brought some rain to the northwest earlier in the day but by the afternoon it's
00:40just an area of cloud essentially extending from southern Scotland, Northern Ireland into much of
00:44England and Wales. So the sky's not as blue for many on Tuesday afternoon and even some spots of
00:49rain coming through for parts of Wales into the Midlands. Most places dry, most places still warm.
00:56It's significantly cooler in the northern half of the country behind that cold front, still 25
01:01Celsius possible in Aberdeen, closer to average for Glasgow and Belfast, 19 here. But further south
01:07mid to high 20s generally could just about scrape a 30 or 31 Celsius towards the southeast
01:14given some sunshine here. But there will be a lot of high cloud around and that high cloud sticks
01:19around on Tuesday night in many places. Increasingly there will be showers arriving through
01:24the evening across northern and northwest Scotland, a brisk breeze here but elsewhere a mix of clear
01:30spells and areas of cloud and a mild night for many. A muggy one in the south but not quite as
01:38warm as it has been further north with that fresher airflow behind the cold front. Nevertheless a bright
01:45start to the day on Wednesday, plenty of sunshine first thing. Areas of cloud sink south and then
01:51widespread sunny skies for much of England and Wales. A bit more cloud coming along for Northern
01:55Ireland and for Scotland and a few showers possible for central and northern Scotland, perhaps one or
02:01two for the north coast of Northern Ireland. But for most it's a fine day, there'll be some sunny
02:06spells, the best of which will be in the south and it stays hot in the south, mid to high 20s once
02:12again. But you can see average temperatures further north, northern England, Scotland, Northern Ireland
02:18more like 18 to 21 Celsius. We'll keep you updated as always as the heat builds once
02:25again later this week and into the weekend and you can follow all those updates on social media.
