00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather forecast on the Met Office. Well, as we go
00:04into a new year, the weather, unfortunately, is set to remain very similar. Low pressure
00:09is going to dominate our weather right throughout the next week. Further spills of rain will
00:13come in, generally more focused across the south at times, especially during the first
00:17part of the week. And then towards the end of the week, low pressure will begin to slide
00:22its way towards the continent. That may allow us just to begin to see some cooler air move
00:27in from Scandinavia. But lots to get through before we get there. And we'll keep a very
00:31close eye on things as we go through the next few days. So back to the here and now as we
00:35see out 2023, got some bluffs through winds across the south. There is a warning in force
00:41during the rest of today. But for many, really, it's going to be a day of bright spells and
00:45a scattering of showers. The showers could potentially be fairly heavy, could even hear
00:49the odd rumble of thunder, with perhaps the driest and brightest weather reserved for
00:53parts of western Scotland. Temperatures today, a little bit down on yesterday. So in the
00:58north, we're looking at highs ranging between 5 to 7 degrees. In the south, just climbing
01:04into double figures, around 10 degrees. So then as we approach midnight, for many of
01:10us, we continue the theme of some clear spells and some showers. Still bluffs through winds,
01:15but they should start to ease a tad as we approach midnight. But I think for the bells
01:19themselves, central belt of Scotland might be the best place to be. Some fairly dry weather
01:24and some clearer conditions here. Elsewhere, keep a rain jacket handy because there will
01:27be some showers around. And then for the rest of the night, really, very similar conditions.
01:34Generally, clear spells and a scattering of showers. The showers may well ease a little
01:38bit across southern areas and with clearer skies, it will turn fairly chilly. Could see
01:43a touch of frost in the countryside, especially across more northern parts of the country.
01:48So if you are up early enough on New Year's Day, there will be some sunshine around across
01:52southern parts of the country. Also, some sunny spells for Northern Ireland. But across
01:57the south, we'll see this next area of cloud and rain begin to move up from the south-west.
02:02So come the afternoon, best of the sunshine really for Scotland and maybe north-eastern
02:07parts of England. Still some showers up here, but generally the wettest of the weather will
02:12be across the southern half of the country. Temperatures, very similar to today across
02:17the north, so around 5 to 6 degrees. In the south, with the milder air coming back, we
02:23could see highs reaching around 11 degrees. And then for the rest of New Year's Day, that
02:28rain will continue to spread its way northwards. Still generally hanging on to the clearer
02:32conditions across Scotland. So here, a cold start to Tuesday, but further south really
02:38it's going to be a fairly wet and windy night to come. So if you want any more information
02:43about the weather where you are over the next couple of days, you can always check
02:46out our app on our website. But that's all from me for now, and on behalf of everyone
02:51here at the Met Office, we wish you a Happy New Year.
