06 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello again. There will be some sunny spells for many of us today, but also quite a few
00:04showers towards the northwest and we have already seen a bit of rain pushing its way
00:09through starting off looking at what happened overnight. This front pushed its way southeastwards
00:15across parts, bringing some intense thundery rain to some areas and now it's feeding its
00:19way into more central eastern parts of England and bringing a bit of cloud, a bit of rain
00:24across these areas as we go through into this afternoon. The potential that we could see
00:29some heavy, maybe even thundery showers developing in the far east for a time later on. But I
00:33think the rain looks generally quite light as it clears away. Elsewhere, we are going
00:38to see some sunny spells like I mentioned, but also quite a few showers. The showers
00:42will be heaviest across western parts of Scotland, also across Northern Ireland. Here's some
00:47fairly frequent showers, but across eastern Scotland, northwest England, Wales and southwest
00:51England, a few showers are quite likely. Despite the fact that there will be some sunny breaks
00:56around, we have some fresher air that's come in behind this front and so it's going to
01:01feel a little cooler than it has done of late for many of us. Still just about getting into
01:05the mid-twenties perhaps towards eastern England, but elsewhere we're looking at highs ranging
01:10from the high teens to low twenties. Not feeling too bad in any bright or sunny spells. As
01:15we go through later on, any lingering rain in the far east will clear away, so a drier
01:19picture down the eastern side of the country as we go through this evening and overnight.
01:24But further showers coming in from the west through the night and as we go through the
01:28early hours of Wednesday morning. Notice also some heavier, more persistent rain starting
01:33to push into the far west of Scotland as well. Temperatures are going to be a little bit
01:37lower than some recent nights for many of us, especially across parts of central southern
01:42England. Here it will be quite noticeable with that fresher air that's come in. I think
01:46it is going to be a bit more comfortable for sleeping for many of us. Temperatures quite
01:49widely getting into the low to mid-teens Celsius, perhaps even single figures in some
01:54rural spots away from the towns and cities. First thing tomorrow, we do have then some
01:59persistent showery rain across parts of Scotland, particularly the north-northwest of Scotland.
02:04This is going to clear northwards and break up, but could cause some spray on the roads
02:08and a little bit of localised flooding for a time. And then we have plenty of showers
02:12again across Scotland, Northern Ireland, some fairly frequent showers and some blustery
02:17winds here as well. Also a few showers for parts of England and Wales. The further you
02:22are towards the south, the greater chance you have of staying dry and avoiding the showers.
02:26But a few showers are still possible. There will again be some sunny spells in between
02:31those showery bursts, but perhaps a bit more cloud than today for many places. And with
02:36that, temperatures a little bit lower and feeling cooler too, because there'll be some
02:41brisk winds around, the strongest winds towards the northwest of the UK. And so generally,
02:46it's going to feel a little cool for early August. Later on, we will see many of those
02:51showers easing as we go through Wednesday night, but some continuing across northern
02:55areas. And then there are some frontal systems waiting to come in from the west, which are
02:59going to bring some spells of rain for many of us as we go through Thursday and Friday.
03:04Alex Deacon will be here later on with his deep dive, which will be available on our
03:09YouTube channel. So do make sure you check that out. I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
