00:00Okay, I've found my happy place, a shelf of brand new laptops.
00:05This is the Intel Showcase, so it's CES 2024, and there are dozens of new laptops there,
00:10all powered by the Intel Core Ultra chip, which is really exciting.
00:14I've done a couple of videos on that so far.
00:16But if you've missed out, basically it's their new Meteor Lake chip that goes into thin and
00:20light laptops.
00:22Much better gaming performance with the Intel R graphics, dedicated AI with a neural processing
00:27unit.
00:28So faster, more efficient, and it's powering all these new laptops.
00:32And also handhelds.
00:33We've got the MSI Claw here as well, which is going to be a very interesting competitor
00:37to the ROG Alite Legion Go, because it's the first handheld we've seen that's actually
00:41not using a Ryzen chip.
00:42It's Intel Core Ultra.
00:43We've got new Dell XPSs, we've got new LG Grams, we've got Asus Zenbooks, Acer laptops,
00:49Lenovo laptops.
00:50All right, so this is the new MSI Claw, it's powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 chip.
00:57The lighting isn't particularly good in here, but you can see it looks kind of like a ROG
01:02Ali, although we have it in this very cool black color, we've got RGB thumbsticks, we've
01:07got a D-pad.
01:08No trackpads though, no kickstand like the Legion Go, a couple of back buttons, lots
01:13of ventilation there.
01:14Obviously the big question is how will this compare in terms of performance and also battery
01:19life compared to the ROG Ali and Legion Go, both of which use the Z1 Extreme chip.
01:24This is the first Intel-powered handheld we've seen.
01:27You can also see USB-C out there, they've got it hooked up to a display so you can use
01:32a bit of a desktop system, mouse and keyboard.
01:35What's interesting though is this will come with either a Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7, and
01:40these are the same chips used in these laptops, although likely at a lower power level.
01:45We also have a 7-inch, 120Hz, 1080p LCD screen, so pretty similar to the ROG Ali.
01:51We also have a 53Wh battery, which is the biggest among the handhelds right now, although
01:55despite that MSI claim we'll only get about 2 hours of high-end gaming.
01:59MicroSD card support, headphone jack, Thunderbolt 4, and of course it runs Windows 11 with MSI's
02:04own UI on top.
02:06And launching in the next couple of months, the Claw, not sure if I love that name, will
02:10start from $700 with an Ultra 5 and 512 storage and go up to $800 for the higher spec.
02:16Definitely keen to test this one properly.
02:19So Dell have unveiled the new XPS 13, 14 and 16-inch laptops, all with the familiar futuristic
02:25styling we've seen from the XPS Plus that we've had for a couple of years now.
02:29The main upgrade is the new Intel chip, which gives us significantly better graphics and
02:33AI performance.
02:34We also get bigger batteries, which I'm very pleased to see, as this was one of my bigger
02:38gripes of the previous models.
02:40Also the XPS 14 will have a RTX 4050 option if you need a little bit more graphical oomph.
02:45We're also looking at up to 64GB of RAM, up to a whopping 4TB of storage, and these
02:50glorious screens come in both LED and OLED options.
02:54Although I reckon the most interesting change is this new XPS 16, which kind of replaces
02:58the old 15 and 17, with up to a Core Ultra 9, an RTX 4070, and a stunning 16.3-inch 4K
03:06OLED screen.
03:07And it is a good deal lighter than the outgoing 17-incher.
03:10The only downside is the 13 and 14 are noticeably heavier this year.
03:14I also don't know if I love the touch bar at the top, which is on all models now, and
03:18with the keyboard there's still no gaps between the keys, which isn't my favourite, but it's
03:22still good to see a refresh of the XPS line.
03:26Next up, and seemingly out of nowhere, Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy Book 4 series.
03:31We have the Book 4 Ultra, a 16-incher and the only one with a dedicated graphics card,
03:35either a 4050 or a 4070.
03:37Then we have the Book 4 Pro, which comes in 14 and 16-inch sizes, and then finally a spinny
03:43Book 4 Pro 360.
03:45New Intel Core Ultra chips, of course, up to the Ultra 9.
03:48They've improved the cooling, particularly on the Ultra.
03:51Similar AMOLED screens like we've seen before, although they are now all touchscreen and
03:54with dynamic 120Hz refresh rates, better speakers, and a new HDMI 2.1 port.
04:00I also very much appreciate they've made the screen more anti-reflective.
04:03You can see here I've got the Book 3 and the Book 4 side by side, and while we're still
04:07those deep inky OLED colours, I'm no longer staring back at myself from the void.
04:14Asus have also been very busy with the likes of the ZenBook 14 OLED and the very cool dual
04:18screen ZenBook Duo, which I absolutely love.
04:21Definitely check out my full video on the channel.
04:23But at the heart of all these new machines is the new Intel Core Ultra chips, and Intel
04:28very kindly invited me to CES here in Las Vegas to kind of understand the new hardware
04:32a bit better.
04:33And without boring you all to death, I think there's two big upgrades that really matter.
04:38The new built-in ARC GPU delivers gaming and graphics performance up to two times as fast
04:45as our previous generation.
04:47And the first one is the graphics.
04:49Now, this is Ghostrunner 2.
04:50On the left, we've got a laptop from last year with an i7-1370p and using their Intel
04:55Iris Xe graphics.
04:56But then on the right, this new model with the Ultra 7 165H, and we're getting about
05:02three times the frame rate, 75 FPS or so.
05:05And that's down to the much faster Intel ARC integrated graphics and also a boost
05:09from Intel's Xe SS upscaling tech.
05:12So for gaming, for graphical work, it's a big upgrade.
05:15And number two, of course, it is all about AI, as these new chips come with a dedicated
05:20neural processing unit or MPU, which is either a lot faster or a lot more efficient.
05:25So for things like background blur in your video call, which would normally use the graphics
05:29and drain your battery quickly, the MPU will kick in and do it much more efficiently.
05:33And while we are certainly at the start of this AI revolution, especially for on-device
05:38AI like this, it is exciting to see the potential.
05:40And as apps and games start to take advantage of it, then you'll want a laptop with an
05:44MPU to make it a lot more future-proof.
05:46This is a transition.
05:48AI truly will be everywhere.
05:50Now, to be fair, if you're not gaming and you're not really going to utilize some of
05:53these AI features, then you probably don't need to chuck your current laptop in the bin.
05:56But if you are due an upgrade, then certainly do look out for these new Intel Core Ultra
06:00laptops and even handhelds.
06:02Lots of very cool tech here.
06:03It's going to be a very interesting year for laptops.
06:06But of what I've shown you here so far, which one would you be most interested in?
06:09And also, which one would you like me to review first?
