00:00Alright guys, today we're going to be comparing the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 14 Pro.
00:07If you're holding on to your iPhone 7 and you're thinking about upgrading, it's definitely
00:11a great upgrade.
00:13It's just pretty much a good upgrade across the board from hardware to display, speakers,
00:18everything we're going to get into.
00:20So definitely I think it's worth it.
00:22But I want to kick it off with a speed test so I can see, because I personally want to
00:26see like is there going to be a big gap with speed here.
00:29So let's go ahead and open up Geekbench so we can see the Geekbench scores.
00:33So we do have the Apple A16 versus the Apple A10 chip.
00:38We're on iOS 16, we're on iOS 15.
00:40The iPhone 7 did not get the iOS 16 update.
00:44So that's also something to consider.
00:47Also we have 128 gigs of internal storage, 6 gigs of RAM, and then the 7 base model is
00:5232 gigs and 2 gigs of RAM as well.
00:56Alright so you can see those big score differences.
00:59So I wonder how this is going to translate.
01:01So it should be somewhat of a difference but again, not sure.
01:06YouTube, boom, again, not too big of a difference there.
01:11One thing you'll notice right off the rip is the smooth scrolling at 120 hertz.
01:17The iPhone 7 is actually still pretty smooth though.
01:20But it's just not as smooth so you'll notice that difference.
01:24Let's try Google Earth, wow, this is actually not that big of a difference guys.
01:32Now maybe for games we'll see somewhat of a difference.
01:36Temple Run, boom, 14 Pro in there.
01:48So actually, you know, that was a bit of a difference but really not as dramatic as I
01:53thought it was going to be guys.
01:57It does go to show how strong these chips are that Apple makes.
02:04Subway Surf, that was almost immediate.
02:11Alright so now we see a little bit of a difference.
02:17Now a little stutter on the 7.
02:20Now the 7, it's like a little bit jerky actually when it comes to playing Subway Surf, it's
02:24like it almost can't really handle it.
02:27You guys can notice that, yeah, it's a little bit jerky.
02:34Well it was at the beginning, now it's pretty smooth.
02:39Yeah but so far I'm impressed with the iPhone 7 actually.
02:42A lot of people, they say like Apple's slowing the phones down but it doesn't look like it.
02:48It feels somewhat fast.
02:49I mean the A10 versus the A16 and it's still pretty much on par with it.
02:58Yeah this is not like dramatic as I thought.
03:05Alright let's do a heavier game like PUBG.
03:08So this is where you will see a massive, massive difference is in gaming performance.
03:12So if you're somebody that really likes to play games on your phone, games like PUBG,
03:16Call of Duty, Mobile, Genshin Impact, it'll be a night and day difference when it comes
03:21to keeping a consistent frame rate and playing at higher graphical settings.
03:26It's gonna be a big difference for people who love playing games.
03:30See we're in on PUBG and we're in on PUBG, man, the iPhone 7 is quick man.
03:37I was expecting that at least to be like 10 seconds apart but that is not the case at
03:43all.
03:44Just to show you guys the graphical settings here, I'll go ahead and boot into that one.
03:55You'll see a very big difference when it comes to your graphic settings.
04:00So the, okay, hold on.
04:07So the 7, and the 7 it does like heat up way more when you're gaming than the newer phones.
04:14Like it gets kind of hot.
04:18We can see the graphic settings, we can play smooth ultra, that's our highest settings,
04:25HDR high, smooth ultra, still plays nice.
04:31But with the newer phones, not only are they cooler, but HDR extreme so you will notice
04:37the gaming experience right off the bat.
04:40And when they update the 14 Pro for the 90 frames again, it'll be even more of a jump
04:47in terms of smoothness and speed.
04:50So yeah, definitely you're getting a great update when it comes to overall performance
04:54and gaming performance.
04:55Alright, let's go ahead and talk about the screens on both of these phones.
05:00Obviously you're getting a big jump in terms of screen quality as well too.
05:04The 14 Pro, it does have one of the brightest displays you can get right now, 2000 nits
05:08peak brightness.
05:09You can see you have a new design, slimmer bezels, you have the pill shape, which you
05:13may or may not like.
05:15The 7 doesn't have any type of notch, it just has these sort of like thick bezels.
05:19And you have the touch ID versus the swiping gestures as well, a lot of people like the
05:24buttons and stuff like that.
05:26I would say if you really want a phone with a button, you would go for a SE 2022 for sure.
05:33But yeah, so you do have an XDR OLED display at 120 hertz on the 14, 6.1 inches.
05:41It's a 1080p plus resolution, 460 for the PPI.
05:45The 7 still has a pretty crispy display, especially since the size of it is so small at 4.7 inches.
05:52It's a 720p display, 326 for the PPI.
05:56The display is just overall going to be better, colors are going to be better, borders are
05:59going to be slimmer.
06:02It's just an overall better display, it's brighter, more color accurate.
06:07It's just a great display upgrade in my opinion.
06:10That's if you don't mind having the pill shape cut out.
06:15But yeah, it's going to be a nice display upgrade for sure.
06:19And also the 120 hertz is just going to be silky smooth.
06:22That's one of the things you should notice immediately, is how much more smoother the
06:26display feels.
06:27Alright, here are the speakers, let's go ahead and max volume.
06:30This is also something that we should see a big difference.
06:49Alright, so to no surprise, the 14 Pro just makes the iPhone 7 honestly sound kind of
07:04flat.
07:05It just makes it sound just not loud and very flat in comparison.
07:11So you are getting a very good speaker upgrade.
07:13It's like almost two times louder and almost two times more bass as well too.
07:18So that is going to be a very noticeable upgrade for you.
07:21As far as the biometrics go, we have face ID, which is very nice.
07:25If you've never used face ID, you will really like it.
07:28But obviously you're going to be giving up the touch ID, which also I really love.
07:34And also just having a home button in general, that's going to be gone.
07:38But I think it's worth it.
07:39I think you'll actually really like the face ID and the gestures you'll get used to pretty
07:45quickly.
07:46Also, let's go ahead and talk about some other additional features.
07:49So you do have wireless charging and MagSafe wireless charging on here as well on the 14.
07:55And then on the iPhone 7, you actually do not have any type of wireless charging.
07:59So that's also going to be a very nice feature for you.
08:03You do have NFC on both of these phones as well too.
08:05So Apple Pay will still work and all that good stuff.
08:09Now let's talk about the real upgrade.
08:11The biggest upgrade here is most definitely the camera.
08:16You're going from a single camera setup to a triple camera setup.
08:21And it is going to be...
08:22I thought the pictures were very much noticeable.
08:25So I thought that was a big jump.
08:27So 48 megapixel standard on the 14, 12 megapixel telephoto 3x, 12 megapixel ultra wide.
08:35You also have a macro mode, 4K video at 60, and then a 12 megapixel selfie camera that
08:40also shoots in 4K 60.
08:45And then we have just a single 12 megapixel camera on the 7.
08:49It shoots in 4K 30, then a 7 megapixel selfie that shoots in 1080p.
08:53You are going to get some new modes in the camera, like the cinematic mode and stuff
08:57like that.
08:58Like I said, the macro mode and all that good stuff.
09:01And yeah, so I'm going to show you guys the side-by-side stills.
09:03Be sure to let me know what you guys think.
09:15Alright guys, here is the video quality on the iPhone 7 here.
09:45It actually looks pretty good, surprisingly.
09:54And of course, there is no zoom or anything like that, but you can manually digitally
10:00zoom in, which actually doesn't look that bad.
10:08So man, it just goes to show how impressive the iPhone camera video quality was.
10:13Alright, here is the video on the 14 Pro, and obviously the big thing is that I can
10:19punch out to my ultra-wide, I can go in 2X, and I can even go in 3X.
10:27Alright guys, so the battery life experience is also going to be pretty much night and
10:35day experience.
10:36So you're going to get, on the 7, it typically gets around 4 hours of screen on time.
10:43This iPhone 14 Pro is looking like it'll get around 8 hours of screen on time, so that
10:49is a big jump.
10:50You'll notice the battery life probably the most, for most people.
10:54So you just get a much bigger battery, and it's just better optimized here.
10:59And like I said, you get the wireless charging as well too, if you want to know the specs
11:02on that.
11:03You do have a 3200 mAh battery versus the 1960 mAh battery, and like I said, you get
11:10the MagSafe charging and wireless charging, which is going to be very nice.
11:15So overall, it's a very good upgrade in general.
11:18As far as the build quality, you are going from IP67 on here to IP68 on here as well,
11:24so better water resistant.
11:26The design definitely looks more modern, you are getting a much heavier and beefier phone
11:31as well too.
11:32The iPhone 7 almost feels extremely light like paper.
11:36And yeah, you just see the design difference here, it just looks more modern, you see those
11:40big cameras.
11:41Yeah, so what do you guys think?
11:44Is it a worthwhile upgrade?
11:46I think most people, if you have the cash, definitely go ahead and make the move.
11:50I think you'll be very happy with this upgrade.
