00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be doing a quick comparison with the iPhone 13 mini
00:07to the Asus Zenfone 9.
00:09I actually sold the 13 mini to my mother and what's pretty funny about this phone is my
00:14mom, actually I gave my mom the LG Velvet as well too and she actually uses the Velvet
00:19way more than the 13 mini.
00:22She actually hates the 13 mini.
00:24I might actually bring her on for a video because I just thought that was, I just thought
00:29that her whole experience with like Android versus iOS is funny but alright, let's get
00:34into this quick comparison though.
00:3513 mini versus Zenfone 9.
00:38These are two of the best compact smartphones that you can get, flagship phones, but very
00:44awesome either way, it doesn't matter which way you swing, you're going to get a great
00:48experience with both of these phones.
00:50Alright so let's go ahead and jump into it.
00:52So first off is the size of these phones here.
00:56As you can see, the Asus makes the 13 mini look super, super small even though the Asus
01:00is a very small phone.
01:02As you can see, it's much bigger, it's a little bit thicker and then the Zenfone is actually
01:09noticeably heavier than the 13 mini.
01:12As you can see, the camera's bumps are just massive on both of these phones actually but
01:18again the Zenfone just makes it look really small by comparison.
01:23Yeah, so the iPhone 13 mini, it is definitely way more compact than the Zenfone, that's
01:28why a lot of people really like this phone.
01:31This phone is the easiest phone to one hand and I do mean easy to one hand and it's mostly
01:36because of the display difference here.
01:40Before we talk about that, I do want to talk about the hardware a little bit more here.
01:43So you will notice that you have metal railings on both of these phones but you got a glass
01:48back and a plastic back.
01:50It's sort of like got this like sandpaper type of texture to it and I really like it.
01:56I just like the way it feels in the hand.
01:58They both have a premium feeling so just in case you were wondering like does the plastic
02:02back feel cheaper, no and actually if you drop this phone, you know, since it's plastic
02:07it's not going to crack as easy as a glass but most people are going to put a case on
02:11their phone anyway so it doesn't matter.
02:13Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about the displays on both of these phones here.
02:20So the display setup on the 13 mini, it's a much smaller display at 5.4 inches.
02:26It's a Super Retina XDR OLED display and it is HDR10.
02:30It gets about 800 nits for the regular and then 1200 nits peak brightness so it is slightly
02:35brighter than the Zenfone at the max nits.
02:38And then it's 1080 by, it's basically a 1080p panel, 476 for the PPI.
02:43As you can see the Zenfone is a much bigger display at 5.9 inches.
02:49It's Super AMOLED, 120hz, that's definitely a key factor here.
02:53The iPhone does not have the 120hz at all, it's just a 60hz.
02:58It's also HDR10 plus on here as well too and then we also have 1100 nits peak brightness
03:04and then we have a 1080p panel with 445 for the PPI.
03:09Both panels are good but like I said, I think the Zenfone has a better panel because it's
03:14120hz and also it's got the punch hole instead of the notch here.
03:20So as you can see, your viewing experience is going to be pretty good on both but me
03:24personally I just like to have that extra screen right here.
03:29So I like to have that extra screen with that punch hole right there, it's just a little
03:34bit more immersive experience when you're watching content.
03:37Also the 120hz, it's just buttery smooth on here especially when just scrolling through
03:45stuff like YouTube and stuff like that, it just feels much smoother than the iPhone.
03:53The iPhone is pretty smooth for a 60hz but it's still, the Zenfone is noticeably just
03:58smoother, it just feels like buttery smooth.
04:02So definitely I think the Zenfone has the better display here and also the price of
04:06both of these phones, they're actually about the same.
04:09So you can find the 13 mini on Apple's website for new for around $700, the Zenfone is going
04:16for like $750 as well so definitely take that into consideration as well.
04:23Alright, so let's talk about the software experience as well too.
04:26So we get Android 12 with the ZenUI and then we have iOS 15, basically comes down to your
04:35preference here, you can do obviously a lot more with Android customization and stuff
04:39like that.
04:41With iOS you get a lot of stuff that people love like the FaceTime and iMessage and stuff
04:45like that, a lot of people really value that but as far as the experience, they're kind
04:51of getting closer especially with iOS 16 being able to customize a little bit more, always
04:55on display might be coming but Android is still just more open, it's just easier to
05:01do more things on Android for sure.
05:04So it just really is a debate of open versus a closed system.
05:09Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about speed.
05:11So we do have the Apple A15 chip on here on the iPhone and we do have 128 gigs of internal
05:19storage and 4 gigs of RAM, no SD card support of course.
05:22The ZenPhone, we do have the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip on here and then we also
05:28have the Adreno 730, no SD card support, 128 gigs of internal storage and 8 gigs of RAM,
05:33you do have slightly more RAM.
05:35Both of these phones are extremely fast when you're just launching applications and stuff
05:40like that.
05:43If we just go into YouTube real quick, let's redo that.
05:51They both are basically flagship chips, they're almost pretty much open stuff.
05:56In terms of speed and in terms of gaming performance and stuff like that, you won't really notice
06:02a difference.
06:03Both of these phones will play PUBG at HDR Extreme, I do have a gaming test on both of
06:08these phones or I'm going to drop a gaming test on this one, I do have a gaming test
06:12on the 13 mini, definitely check that out.
06:15They are both just very fast phones in general guys, so definitely don't let that sway you
06:22from buying either one because they're just both buttery smooth.
06:27Let's do a quick speaker test, see which one sounds louder.
06:35Yeah, the Zenfone is slightly louder, the 13 mini is still pretty loud, but it lacks
06:49the bass quality of the Zenfone for sure.
06:53The Zenfone, just testing the speaker against a ton of phones, it just has much better bass
06:57than your average phone and not just loud bass, it really has a lot of good detail to
07:02its bass quality as well too, which is really nice.
07:05So that's something that I definitely appreciate.
07:09Also one thing about the Zenfone is you do have a headphone jack up top.
07:15So you do not have a headphone jack on the iPhone, so if you're a die-hard headphone
07:19jack lover, you will really appreciate the Zenfone for having that.
07:26Let's talk about some of the additional features as well.
07:28We already know iPhone has Face ID, that works really well.
07:32The Zenfone does have a fingerprint scanner built into the power button, and you can also
07:38take advantage of the face unlock on here.
07:42So you do have two methods instead of the one method on the iPhone.
07:46They both have IP68 dust and water resistant, which is nice as well too.
07:51And also for the additional features, you do have NFC on both, and you do lack the wireless
07:58charging on the Zenfone, and the 13 mini does have the wireless charging.
08:03So it's got wireless charging.
08:05But yeah, that kind of sucks that it doesn't have that, and it's got the MagSafe wireless
08:10charging.
08:11But also another trade-off is that the Zenfone charges at 30 watts versus the iPhone's 18
08:18watts.
08:19So it takes longer to charge this phone than to charge this phone.
08:22So that's also a very awesome thing, but we'll talk about the battery situation a little
08:26bit later.
08:27So I'm going to go ahead and show you guys the side-by-side stills, but let's talk about
08:30the camera specs first.
08:31So with the 12 mini, we do have a 12 megapixel standard on here, and then we also have a
08:3612 megapixel ultra-wide.
08:37It shoots in 4K 24 through 60, and then we have a 12 megapixel standard that shoots in
08:434K 24 through 60 as well too.
08:48Now the Zenfone does have a much bigger sensor at a 50 megapixel sensor for the standard,
08:54and then a 12 megapixel ultra-wide.
08:56It shoots in 8K 24, so it can do that, the iPhone cannot.
09:01You also have a 12 megapixel sensor for the front, and then it's a 4K 30.
09:08So let's go ahead and check out those side-by-side stills.
09:10Which one do you guys prefer?
09:26Here's the Zenfone.
09:55Here's the iPhone.
10:25Alright guys, let's go ahead and talk about the battery situation.
10:35This will surprise you.
10:36Even though the iPhone is much smaller than the Zenfone, it still gets just as good battery
10:41life, and it might surprise you about the Zenfone.
10:44You might say, small Android phones have terrible battery life.
10:47The Zenfone is an exception.
10:49It has excellent battery life and really good standby time.
10:53Both of these phones, whichever phone you decide to go with, they have excellent battery
10:58life.
10:59So that's something that I really like.
11:00Both of these phones easily do over 6 hours of screen-on time like it's nothing.
11:04So that is really nice.
11:06I'm really glad to see these compact phones having a great battery life.
11:09If you want to know the battery specs, which it really doesn't matter because even though
11:13the iPhone's battery is smaller on paper, it still has the optimization from Apple.
11:19So it's got a 2,438 mAh battery and the Zenfone has a much bigger 4,300 mAh battery.
11:28But like I said, it doesn't matter because they both pretty much get excellent battery
11:32life.
11:33So which phone would you guys go with considering all these pros and cons?
11:37So be sure to let me know and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
