00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be talking about the ASUS Zenfone 9 versus the Galaxy
00:06S10e here.
00:07So these are two compact flagships here and let's go ahead and just dive in here.
00:13So S10e will cost you around $200 in the used refurbished marketplace.
00:17Zenfone is coming in at $750 as well.
00:22Alright, so let's go ahead and jump into the hardware because that's one of the most important
00:25things about these compact phones.
00:28The Zenfone is much heavier and it is like thicker as well, a little bit taller too.
00:35So that's one of the things I noticed.
00:36The S10e definitely feels lighter and it just weighs less.
00:40As you can see design wise, I think the S10e still looks really good as an older flagship.
00:45Zenfone I guess looks more trendy with these just massive cameras on the back here.
00:50So you do have a glass back versus a I guess technically plastic sort of matte back on
00:56the Zenfone 9.
00:58I like both designs on here.
01:00Obviously I do like the matte because it doesn't pick up fingerprints but they both have really
01:06nice designs.
01:07They're both IP68 dust and water resistant as well too.
01:10And yeah, so up top you have a headphone jack on the Zenfone 9.
01:15Down below you have a headphone jack on the S10e.
01:18Both these phones have stereo speakers as well too.
01:21And actually both of these phones use the fingerprint scanner in the power button method
01:27as well which I absolutely love.
01:30I don't know.
01:31Which one feels better?
01:32Because they have this one all the way up here.
01:34Yeah I think the Zenfone, it would feel better, they really should have brought it down somewhere
01:39right here.
01:40I don't know why they put it all the way up here.
01:41I think this is a pretty good spot right here.
01:44But hardware wise they're both really nice premium feeling phones.
01:48Alright so as far as the display goes.
01:50So the S10e, a slightly smaller display at 5.8 inches.
01:56It's a dynamic AMOLED display at HDR10+.
01:59It is 1080p 438 for the PPI.
02:02And then on the Zenfone we have the Super AMOLED 120Hz display, HDR10+, at 5.9 inches.
02:10It's also 1080p 445 for the PPI.
02:14You can see you do have a smaller punch hole on the Zenfone as well too.
02:19Alright so as far as the displays go, honestly looking at both displays they almost kind
02:25of look identical in a way.
02:28Color wise, almost have the same amount of bezel as well too.
02:33It's just that the punch hole you can tell is different.
02:36They both flat displays as well.
02:38Both displays are really good but obviously the Zenfone is going to beat out the S10e
02:42simply because it does have the 120Hz option and it can also toggle down to 90Hz which
02:48I thought was just really cool.
02:50But yeah so you just have that more silky experience.
02:54But other than that, it's not that big of a difference guys.
02:57The S10e is a little bit more comfortable to hold as well too.
03:01Just for me personally, like I said, the smaller is just going to be easier to hold.
03:07But yeah so displays on here look really good on both these phones.
03:11The only thing that is a real difference here is really this, you know the 120Hz option
03:18is just silky smooth.
03:19When you're scrolling in applications and stuff like that, you will definitely notice
03:24that 120Hz kicking in there.
03:27But other than that, they both already do a pretty good job of being bright outdoors
03:31as well too which is really nice.
03:33So you have two really great displays here but you do have a slightly upgraded display
03:37with the Zenfone 9.
03:39Alright guys, let's go ahead and talk about these chips in here.
03:42So with the S10e, it has the Snapdragon 855 chip on here.
03:49We already have Android 12, WinUI 4.1, and then we also have the Adreno 640 on here.
03:55With the Zenfone, we do have the Android 12, ZenUI, and then we have the newest Snapdragon
04:008 Gen 1 Plus chip on here, Adreno 730.
04:04Here's a big difference, the S10e does have SD card support and the Zenfone does not so
04:08you do have more storage option on the S10e.
04:13It's 128GB for the Zenfone, 8GB of RAM, and then this is 128GB, 6GB of RAM.
04:19So like I said, you do have that option for SD card support.
04:22So is the Zenfone like that much faster?
04:27It really depends on like if you're gaming and stuff like that, like intense games, yeah
04:32it'll play games a little bit better, you'll notice less frame drops and stuff like that.
04:36Before your daily use here, you're not going to see too much of a difference, I was just
04:41using the phones going back to back and yeah, the Zenfone is going to open things like a
04:46lot faster, but it's not like the S10e is like opening things super slow, it's not
04:51like the S10e is lagging all over the place.
04:54So I would say if you're a power user, yeah you'll notice that extra power.
04:58If you're more of a casual user, I don't think you'll really notice too much of a difference
05:01in speed to be honest with you, especially when opening more casual applications, you
05:06can see they're almost on par with each other.
05:08And like I said, one of my big things is, do I see a lot of lag on the S10e compared
05:14to Zenfone?
05:15No.
05:16And one of the things that you'll notice is just the 60Hz, it's just nowhere near as smooth
05:20as the 120Hz, it's really just like buttery smooth when you're scrolling.
05:25So like those little things, if those little things matter to you, definitely it's a good
05:29upgrade, like don't get me wrong, it's a great upgrade for speed.
05:32It is definitely, you can feel it being a little bit snappier, but I would say if you're
05:36a power user, yes, if you're not a power user, I wouldn't worry about it because the S10e
05:41is still pretty fast.
05:42Now when it comes to the gaming experience, you get roughly the same gaming experience.
05:47So like I was saying, down the line, yes you will notice the difference maybe a few years
05:51from now, but right now games that are really popular like PUBG and stuff like that, Call
05:57of Duty Mobile, they pretty much play at these same exact settings.
06:00So they both play, they can play at HDR extreme and they both do a really good job of not
06:06lagging and stuff like that.
06:08Like I said, the S10e is still very much smooth here.
06:12Like I said, if you're like a hardcore gamer, the only thing you'll notice really is just,
06:17I guess you could say less frame drops I guess, but like I said, if you watch my gaming tests,
06:23the S10e doesn't really drop frames like that, it's not like it's a slow phone or anything.
06:28So both phones are really great for gaming.
06:30Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about some additional features here.
06:34Alright, so with One UI 4.1, Samsung actually has some pretty good software stuff.
06:40You got secure folders on here, you actually got Samsung desktop support where you can
06:44screen mirror your phone to a TV and stuff like that.
06:49It is a pretty nice experience.
06:50You have a ton of customizations and stuff like that that you could do with One UI.
06:55As soon as Zenfone is more of a stock kind of Android experience, it has a few bells
07:00and whistles in here, but nowhere near as much as One UI.
07:04It's kind of like a clean, you know, basically stock, right?
07:07Also, this will get its last, this has its last major OS update.
07:12It will currently in its security patch stages, this will get two years of major OS updates
07:17as well too.
07:18Just to let you guys know, both these phones have stereo speakers, so let's go ahead and
07:22check those out and let's see how good they are.
07:34So, the Zenfone goes for a much deeper, deeper and louder bass.
08:04But the mids and highs sound a little bit more crispy, so I guess it depends on how
08:10you want to tune your speakers, but this will always have like just really deep and really
08:16nice bass.
08:17Yeah, you can just hear those low notes on here.
08:28You can't really hear the low notes, bass notes on the S10e.
08:32They're both very loud speakers as well too, so it really depends on which type of speaker
08:37you like, but regardless of which phone you get, you'll be happy with these speakers.
08:42Both these phones have NFC and they both have IP68 dust and water resistant as well too,
08:47which is really nice.
08:48Alright guys, I'm going to show you guys the side-by-side stills, but let's go ahead and
08:51talk about the cameras on here.
08:54So, with the S10e, we do have on here a 12 megapixel standard, a 16 megapixel ultra-wide
09:00with 4K 60 video, and then a 10 megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K 60 as well too.
09:30Here's our video on the S10e, this is our ultra-wide as well.
10:00Alright guys, here's the video on the Zenfone 9, this is our ultra-wide.
10:30The Zenfone 9 does have a bigger main sensor at 50 megapixels, and then you also have on
10:45here a 12 megapixel ultra-wide, it can shoot in 8K 24, and then you have a 12 megapixel
10:52selfie cam that shoots in 4K 30.
10:54So, let's go ahead and check those side-by-side stills out, be sure to let me know what you
10:57guys think.
10:58So, let's go ahead and talk about battery life.
11:00So, this is where you're getting a pretty massive upgrade.
11:03So, the S10e, it does have a smaller 3,100 milliamp battery, 15 watt charging with wireless
11:10charging and reverse wireless charging, which the Zenfone does lack, it has no wireless
11:14charging at all.
11:16So, the Zenfone on the other hand has a much bigger battery, is the reason why it's so
11:20kind of thick.
11:22It has a 4,300 milliamp battery, but it does charge much faster at 30 watts, and it does
11:28have reverse charging, but like I said, no any type of wireless charging or reverse
11:31wireless charging.
11:32All right, so basically, the S10e, you can squeeze around four hours, 30 minutes of screen
11:38on time.
11:39The Zenfone is looking like it can do around seven hours of screen on time, if not seven
11:44hours and 30.
11:45That's how good my screen on time has been with this phone, standby time is really good
11:50on here as well too.
11:52So, you are getting a really nice battery upgrade for these phones being, for this phone
11:58being so small.
11:59So, be sure to let me know, which phone do you guys prefer, the Zenfone 9 or the S10e?
12:05Are you going to hold your S10e for longer?
12:08What are you guys planning on doing?
