00:00Recently, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and former Vice President Lenny Robredo met in Sausagon.

00:07What is the possible impact or implication of this meeting?

00:10This is what Professor Antonio Contreras of Punto de Vista Professor said.

00:18Thank you very much, Dian, and good morning.

00:22We all know that in the present, our politics are very forgetful.

00:27There are a lot of stones, harsh words, and press conferences that seem to be full of confusion,

00:38which is why people are afraid.

00:41Politics is always noisy.

00:43The perception of people is that it is chaotic.

00:45Some even say that it is dirty.

00:48But we have seen a glimmer of hope about our country's politics.

00:54This happened when former Vice President Lenny Robredo

00:59and the current President, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met in Sausagon.

01:04And in the meantime, we saw that the two former opponents joined forces

01:10and held hands with each other.

01:14This was just a glimmer of hope that politics is not all about fighting.

01:21We all know that in 2016, President Ferdinand R. Marcos defeated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

01:27and in 2020, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. defeated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

01:34These two are rivals.

01:36Their rivalry in both elections is very bitter.

01:40But for now, they showed civility, respect, humanity,

01:48and the solidarity of people, which is the hallmark of a Filipino.

01:54I hope that this will give us a glimmer of hope

01:59that politics is not all about fighting.

02:03Because sometimes, because of people's politics,

02:05brothers and sisters do not talk,

02:09friends take care of their friends,

02:11cancel each other's appointments,

02:13even block each other on Facebook.

02:16This is just politics.

02:18We are all Filipinos.

02:20And what we saw in Sorsogon,

02:23through President Marcos and former Vice President Leno Bredo,

02:29is a beautiful sight.

02:31A very bright sight despite the darkness that we see in the society

02:36that comes from the lips of other politicians.

02:39What we see is that the negative is the one that shines.

02:44Let us not allow the negative in every press conference

02:49that is not well-published.

02:51What we see is the prosperity in Sorsogon

02:55that shows and gives us hope.

02:58That is my point of view for this morning.
