00:00Previously, Backyard and Pool Week blasted off with over 100 extra tradies on site.
00:07Everyone had sort of mentioned to us that has done the block before how crazy Landscaping
00:12Week was, which we didn't discover until Monday actually hit.
00:17And with the combined backyards totaling a massive 2,269 square metres, we have the biggest
00:23spaces to fill and the most pandemonium and chaos on the block this season.
00:29The size, the amount of excavation that we have to do here is out of control.
00:32This is a six to eight week job that we're doing in six days.
00:36Then last night, it was Maddie and Charlotte's turn to host the weekly chumps dinner for
00:41the losing teams.
00:42For a lovely, wholesome, really bonding family meal, until da, da, da.
00:52Kylie accused them of being deceitful, representing themselves as accountants instead of property
00:58flippers.
00:59I said, what do you guys do?
01:00And Maddie just took over the conversation and you never turned around and said, oh,
01:04actually, no, like I work as an accountant, but that's not actually what I do.
01:07They thought that that was all a lie and we actually are just property flippers.
01:13And I'm like, no, no, no, no.
01:15Yes, we do property flipping.
01:16Yes, we do accounting work.
01:18Yes, I do that.
01:19Yes, we do babysitting.
01:20Yes, I babysit.
01:21Yes, I do some marketing.
01:22Like, would you like me to give you my CV?
01:26You 100% said, because you also included your brother.
01:29Which means you shouldn't, you should just 100% be honest and be like, this isn't a good
01:32relationship.
01:33Well, it's not that we were not honest.
01:34And then the conversation just kind of kept going around in circles and it just wasn't
01:39going anywhere.
01:40Like, we're literally, we're 22 and 24.
01:42I'm not qualified to be in that space.
01:45Don't need to deal with f****** wires, my God.
01:56It's backyard and pool week on the block, but you wouldn't know it out here.
02:03It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
02:10Hello, sweetheart.
02:14Last night, Courtney and Grant had a winner's night away at Currajong Estate Winery with
02:21myself and past contestants, Dale and Sophia, from the Block 2012.
02:25Our pleasure.
02:26And this morning, they have woken up in the Gippsland countryside.
02:31Oh my gosh, there's been a bit of drama last night.
02:35What do you mean?
02:36What drama?
02:37Kylie and the girls have had an argument.
02:38What?
02:39With Maddie and Charlotte?
02:40Yeah.
02:41I still don't understand what everyone's problem was with what they did before this,
02:47but we all have to work.
02:48Yeah.
02:49It's not a big deal.
02:55I woke up very sad.
02:58I didn't really sleep very well and I just was a bit like, it almost felt like a bit
03:04heartbroken.
03:05That sounds dramatic, but like, just really sad.
03:08What they're accusing us of is just not who we are.
03:11Kylie, you know, for the minute we saw her, like, didn't even acknowledge our presence.
03:18When we first came in, it was kind of probably going to make us seem like liars, but that
03:24was never our intention, nor did we believe that we did lie.
03:29We just weren't giving away free information unless people asked.
03:34I just really care about people.
03:35It just makes me so sad that they don't care about us.
03:48This is one of the most crowded, congested and busy block backyard weeks we've ever tackled.
03:54There's only one road in, hundreds of tradies, trucks, earth-moving vehicles and non-stop
04:00deliveries.
04:01It's chaos.
04:02Over at House 5, near the entrance to the block, Christian and Mimi have the biggest
04:18backyard at 552 square metres.
04:23One side of their backyard, there'll be a pool and timber deck.
04:27Behind it is an entertaining area with a smoker.
04:32And on the other side of the house, a basketball court next to a stone bench seating area with
04:37a fire pit.
04:38Day two, so Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are huge and today is no different than yesterday.
04:44We have to dig and prep and pour our basketball court.
04:47I have to do all the footings for our fire pit.
04:50I have to do all the subfloor for our decks.
04:53And we've got boys paving as well, so a big day.
04:56And as it is, nine and six are happy to cart out all the dirt that we excavated out yesterday.
05:00So another big day, yes.
05:03Troy has an army and we appreciate that because it allows us to, you know, focus on, you know,
05:10me with styling, Christian finishing the rest of the house.
05:13I mean, like, for example, today I got the whole office painted, with the upstairs bedroom
05:16painted, which means that we can start, you know, styling that.
05:21It's a weight off our shoulders, you know, so it's really nice.
05:24Come here at the start of the week and think about what you've got to get done, it's impossible.
05:28It's impossible.
05:29So we've got to turn impossible into a reality.
05:31So a week at a time per day, yes.
05:34Troy likes to push things to the very limit.
05:40And I like that.
05:45At house one, near the front of the block, Maddie and Charlotte have 448 square metres
05:50to landscape.
05:53They are planning to have a deck straight off the back door with outdoor kitchen, dining
05:57and lounge area.
05:59There's a fire pit area with a bench seat and a pizza oven.
06:04Then on the other side of the yard, a small basketball court and lawn area where the kids
06:08can play.
06:10Maddie and Charlotte have a team of seven landscapers and they are led by young gun
06:15Ryan, who delivered Eliza and Liberty's backyard last year.
06:19Today we're working on the pool, doing the pool coping and pool tiling.
06:23We've got the chippies doing the deck for us, so they're smashing that out.
06:26And then we've got a couple of our guys doing the paving, the crazy paving for our pizza
06:30oven and just starting to clear out everything else for turf and plants.
06:34And right now, Charlotte's only just started working out the design of her barbecue area
06:39with her builder, Daniel.
06:40Yeah, I feel like fridge over this side.
06:44Barbie shelf.
06:45Yeah, because then you can have a bench top above the fridge and then sink maybe in that
06:52corner.
06:53The landscapers and the carpenters seem like they're all chugging away.
06:57I'm in here planning, picking out lightings and designing like the barbecue area and sending
07:02off drawings to the engineer, just getting the jobs that we need to get done and keep
07:08moving on.
07:09No point dwelling in it.
07:13Hello.
07:14Hello.
07:15What's going on?
07:17Not a whole lot.
07:18Doing some planning.
07:19I was talking to Mimi and because you and Maddie have been having a bit of a tough time,
07:23we were just wondering if you wanted to go get something to eat tonight?
07:26That would be so nice.
07:27Go to the pub or go to Italian or whatever?
07:30Mocha.
07:31All right.
07:32Yeah, that's so sweet.
07:33So we can get out of here for an hour or two?
07:35Sounds good.
07:36All right.
07:37Thank you, Christian.
07:38No worries.
07:39We appreciate you guys.
07:40Yeah.
07:41Nah, we'll do what we can.
07:42Thanks.
07:43All the best for today.
07:44Happy planning.
07:45You too.
07:46See ya.
07:47Bye.
07:48Mimi and Christian have been really nice for the last little while.
07:51They've been looking out for us, so we appreciate that.
07:55We feel good to get out and about.
08:01Coming up, Grant fights the clock and blocks supervisor Aiden.
08:05Well, how'd you think it was eight?
08:07We already told seven.
08:08You made it up.
08:09We already told seven.
08:10Who said it was eight?
08:11Who said it was seven?
08:12To get concrete poured for a crucial backyard feature.
08:14It was either pay for concrete that doesn't get poured or take the risk and pay anyway.
08:21And a peace offering to Maddie and Charlotte is served up in the form of an intimate dinner.
08:26I feel like you can actually reach out to either Courtney or I.
08:29Yeah, I want that.
08:31I had to get up for the day because I had stuff to do, so I had a shower and got on
08:50the road and had another cry.
08:54I think just when you spend a lot of time on your own, like driving and just like sitting
09:04there and thinking, it's been quite sad, I'd say.
09:09But I ended up seeing Mimi, which was really nice.
09:16She's been really lovely.
09:17She came and checked on us last night and just kind of like, you know, shared that like
09:22she really cares about us and, yeah, and she wants to be our friend.
09:33I think when they kind of voiced that, they felt quite lonely, like, with their time here.
09:38That upset me, even though, you know, I have part in that.
09:42Imagine if there's just, they have no one to reach out to.
09:46That'd be pretty ****.
09:48How are you?
09:49Oh, you know, not too bad.
09:52Do you feel better today?
09:53A little bit.
09:54No?
09:55You don't have to.
09:56Not really, but that's all right.
09:57I'm getting there.
09:58I've cried many times, but that's OK.
10:00It takes time.
10:01Yeah, it takes time.
10:02Let yourself feel where you need to be.
10:03Yeah.
10:04Process it.
10:05And I think driving alone doesn't help.
10:06No, it doesn't.
10:07I'm just like, what's going on?
10:09I felt like it was the first time that I properly got to connect with her because I think she's
10:16gone through her own self-reflection.
10:22Today I went to Glen Iris to go to Design 10 to pick my decking.
10:26All right, so we've got a range of decking boards here.
10:28We've obviously got our wider and narrow boards in a bunch of different species.
10:31We've got, like, your spotted gum, your blackbark.
10:33You've got the options for the more darker boards with the kind of reddy tones.
10:36Yeah.
10:37And then we've also got your lighter boards in the blackbark and white stringybark down
10:40there for whatever you guys want.
10:42Obviously, using this for outside in terms of a decking, what kind of look are you going
10:46for?
10:47Kitchen area, our sitting area, our dining area.
10:48So, like, it's just a huge deck.
10:49And then we have, like, a little deck out the front and a little deck outside our main
10:53bedroom.
10:54My house is, like, super coastal and chill.
10:58So, like, lighter is my vibe.
11:01I don't want it to, like, pull too much orange.
11:03Yeah.
11:04I think out of all of them, I like the spotted gum.
11:07I like the wider boards.
11:10Would it be possible to see it, like, when it's outside in the natural light?
11:13Yeah, for sure.
11:14We could head outside to have a look to see what it looks like in the lighting outside
11:16because it obviously will vary in the lighting in here for sure.
11:19So, then you've got the blackbark here, which you can see.
11:21Yeah, see, that's what I thought it would look like.
11:23In that kind of lighting out there, it looks completely different then.
11:25I'm not trying to right my wrongs.
11:27I just want them to come out of this feeling like they have people to talk to.
11:34So, you're all sorted.
11:35Everything's already sorted.
11:36Well, yeah, go girl.
11:40This year, our landscaping guru, Dave Franklin, is back with his team of landscapers and they've
11:44been working on the common area of the block, building a tropical resort style entertainment
11:49area with palm trees, pool, spa and tennis courts.
11:55And right now, he's buying pool tarp.
11:57I'm thinking these two here.
11:58Yeah.
12:00Along with a lot of outdoor lighting.
12:02Yeah, so I'm going to say I'm going to need probably 60 of those.
12:06Okay.
12:07And I need path lights, probably some of these path lights.
12:09Path lights.
12:10And if we can grab a couple of wall lights as well, I reckon I'm done.
12:13I reckon I'm done.
12:14Perfect.
12:15And these are all coastal rated as well, so perfect for down there.
12:22At the end of the road down the back of the block is House 4, where Kylie and Brad have
12:26the smallest backyard, which is 378 square metres.
12:32Out the back, Kylie and Brad want to have a grassy area for their private entrance to
12:37the communal tennis court.
12:39Then there's a pathway up the side of the yard to a tiled plungy pool with a timber
12:43boardwalk, plus pavers running up beside the house and behind it is a fire pit area that
12:49runs off the main bedroom.
12:58Outside on the road, there's a delivery backlog.
13:00Brad's crushed rock has been sitting in a truck for two and a half hours and the driver's
13:05about to pull the pin.
13:07BJ's going to turn her in and we're not going to get our crushed rock.
13:11He ****ing asked where we wanted it and we told him.
13:14Can you come up and let's sort this out?
13:16I need him in now because he's cracking it and we're not going to be able to pull a conk.
13:20Hey, this crushed rock's still not in from 9pm.
13:22The crushed rock is coming in now.
13:23I've been dropping it down there.
13:27No one's dropped any rock down to us.
13:28House 4?
13:29Yep.
13:30Do we get a delivery in here from the garb splice?
13:33No.
13:34Okay, so then my delivery's still out on the road then?
13:36Yes.
13:37Okay, so that's what I'm saying.
13:38It hasn't been brought in here.
13:39But you're getting rock.
13:41But I've got to get him in because he's still waiting.
13:43He's got a thousand more deliveries to go.
13:45I understand that.
13:46He's from a garb splice.
13:47He's not from a supplier.
13:48I get that.
13:49Everyone's in the same boat.
13:50We'll get your rock in.
13:51I've been feeding your landscaper's rock.
13:52But I respect that.
13:53Yeah, I respect that.
13:54Look, we've got to work together.
13:55Okay.
13:569.30 they had him.
13:579.30, we were on the board.
13:5811.30.
13:59On the board, there was only one 9.30.
14:01Hey, well, I'll get him in there now.
14:04Yeah.
14:07After the traffic jam chaos yesterday,
14:10Foreman Darin's put up a white board for contestants
14:14to schedule their deliveries.
14:16But it hasn't gone to plan.
14:18What's the point of the board?
14:19Yeah, well, the boat's a throw the board out.
14:21Not working.
14:23BJ, I'm so sorry, mate.
14:26I'm so sorry, man.
14:27We're just going to back it here.
14:30We followed 9.60's schedule.
14:32We did everything as per the white board.
14:35And our delivery still waited two and a half hours
14:38out the front.
14:39And the delivery took five minutes.
14:41Now the boys aren't going to be able to pour the concrete
14:45that we needed to pour today.
14:46So we'll try our best to try and stay on track.
14:50But it's going to be tomorrow's problem.
14:52And if we can't do that, we're going to have a problem.
14:55We'll try our best to try and stay on track.
14:57But it's going to be tomorrow's problem.
14:59And if we can't get down the driveway,
15:01there's going to be a lot of problems.
15:08Let's go.
15:09To celebrate 20 fabulous seasons of The Block,
15:12head online to catch up with your favourite Block all-stars.
15:15And check out The Block shop for great deals
15:18on this season's winning design ideas.
15:21It's all at The Block website.
15:26In house five, Christian and Mimi's basketball court
15:30is being poured and prepped.
15:32How big's this? What's this like?
15:34Nine by six.
15:35There's a proper three-point line, proper foul line,
15:37so all that's to scale.
15:39Yeah, yeah.
15:40Even though they're very popular, these basketball courts,
15:43the kids still want to be able to shoot properly
15:45from a foul line and a three-point line.
15:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:48So anything underneath that, they don't really like it.
15:50So always try and make sure that we have a foul line
15:53and a three-point line.
15:54Oh, there you go.
15:55The benefit of ours being so big is that it can be a multi-purpose thing.
15:59It doesn't have to be all for basketball.
16:01You can kick the soccer ball on there or the footy or, you know.
16:04So...
16:05Oh, it's awesome.
16:11Courtney and Grant are in house two in the middle of The Block
16:14and they have 403 square metres of backyard.
16:18Right outside their back door will be a covered deck
16:21with outdoor kitchen, dining table and lounge area,
16:24a pizza oven to the side, then a concrete bench seat
16:28and paved area for their fire pit.
16:30At the other end of the yard, there'll be a pool and sun deck
16:33as well as another seating area with an outdoor fireplace.
16:43The concrete bench seat in house two, all been approved with the steel.
16:46It's very neat the way the boys have done it.
16:48Really good to see.
16:49The only issue we're facing here is concrete...
16:52It's 1.30 now.
16:53Concrete should be here getting poured because we've got setting times.
16:56This has got to set today.
16:58Then the boys have got to strip it, then trowel finish it.
17:00So they've got to pour it, let it set.
17:03I don't know how many hours that is.
17:05Strip it all, trowel finish.
17:07Off site by 6.30pm tonight.
17:10It's getting tight.
17:16Are you serious?
17:17Yeah.
17:18So it looks like probably 7pm shut tonight.
17:24So your truck's here now.
17:26Yeah.
17:27We're going to put it on you guys, it's up to you whether you want to pour.
17:30But either way, if they're not finished and they need a trowel,
17:33they have to leave site, they can't stay.
17:35So it's a call you guys have got to make.
17:36It's a tough one.
17:37It's very late in the day to be doing it.
17:39Because we don't know how long it's going to take to set
17:41for them to strip it.
17:42And then they've got to burnish finish it, which could take hours.
17:46Burnished concrete is a form of polished concrete.
17:49And the process will take longer than normal.
17:52Because once it's set, it needs to be troweled to achieve a smooth finish.
17:58Pour it now, it's going to take three hours to set.
18:00How do we deliver a backyard in a week if we can't work behind?
18:03I don't know.
18:04Seriously?
18:05Yeah.
18:06It's up to you guys.
18:07Alright.
18:08It's going to be risky.
18:11It's a risk.
18:12Yeah, I know.
18:13I don't know what to do.
18:14I don't know what to do.
18:23You've done burnished concrete before?
18:25No, no, I haven't.
18:26The boys wanted to do it because we thought it was 8 o'clock.
18:29And if we don't, we're wasting the concrete anyway.
18:31We're paying for it.
18:33It's 3.30.
18:34It won't be poured until 4.30.
18:37Which means it won't be able to be stripped until maybe 7.30, 6.30.
18:41It was either that or we don't pay for it.
18:43Oh, sorry, it was either that or we don't pay for it.
18:44That's my opinion, but, you know.
18:46What time can we go to?
18:48Because we thought it was 8.00, 8.00.
18:50Well, how did you think it was 8.00?
18:51Well, we already told 7.00.
18:52You made it up.
18:53We already told 7.00.
18:54Who said it was 8.00?
18:55Who said it was 7.00?
18:56It could be 8.00.
18:57Who said it was 7.00 or 8.00?
18:58It was 7.00.
18:59Well, ****.
19:006.30.
19:01And I said maybe 7.00, maybe 8.00.
19:03The boys are just pouring the seat now.
19:05Oh, yeah.
19:06It's a bit of a risk because they're going to be forced to go outside at 7.00.
19:10So, if the seat doesn't, like, sort of set in time, then they can't pull it off where,
19:14not ****, but the seat won't be what we thought it was.
19:17Well, I'm sure they'll give us some extra time just to finish it.
19:20No, they won't.
19:22We rolled the dice.
19:23We decided to pour when the truck arrived, and if it didn't roll our way,
19:27then we'd have to come up with another finish on that concrete bench.
19:33It was either pay for concrete that doesn't get poured or take the risk and pay anyway.
19:38So, you know.
19:39Yeah.
19:41It's drying.
19:45I need more of these or...
19:58Looks nice.
20:00Very nice.
20:02It was always going to be a gamble, but I'm just glad it's paid off.
20:06Yeah.
20:07So, once again, told you so, Dan.
20:11Hang on, hang on, hang on.
20:13All in all, it came out really well.
20:15So, concrete's there.
20:17The boilers, the heaters, they troweled it.
20:19They did polishing and all that.
20:22It's going to look awesome.
20:23We're very, very grateful.
20:29I just want to go back to normal life.
20:32Oddly, once it airs, I don't think you're ever going to have a normal life.
20:36Tonight, we will go to dinner with Maddie and Charlotte and potentially Pauline and Graeme as well,
20:41depending on how they feel, which will be fun.
20:45Maddie!
20:46I'm coming.
20:47No, now.
20:48Five minutes.
20:49You haven't said that for ages.
20:50Bring the car down.
20:52You're like, I know.
20:55So, she said that she'd invited the girls out because she felt a bit bad about what happened Monday night.
21:01And she just didn't want them to feel alienated,
21:03so she thought it'd be a good idea to take them out to dinner.
21:06Like, I think it's good.
21:07Like, I'm glad that she's the bigger person and can do something like that.
21:12Go to the girls.
21:13They need nice Mimi.
21:16I'm always nice Mimi.
21:17No, I know.
21:18That's why you're going and not me, because I'd be like...
21:22I just don't want them to come out and feel like they have no one to talk to,
21:26because that'd be...
21:28Exactly, so go, because...
21:30You're the only one that will listen.
21:31You hate me.
21:32We're not going to hate you.
21:33We're not going to hate you.
21:35Oh, my God.
21:36Be friends with whoever.
21:39Traitor.
21:40No, I'm kidding.
21:42See you, guys.
21:44See you, Christian.
21:45We love you.
21:46Love you, too.
21:47Have a lovely evening.
21:48Oh, she's...
21:51I heard they'd been, like, crying and they didn't feel like they had a spot here,
21:56so I just thought it would be nice for them to sort of get off site
22:00and maybe just, you know, have an open chat to us about how they're feeling.
22:05I feel like out of all the couples, they probably trust us the most
22:08and, you know, would probably open up to us the most.
22:11You know, this is probably going to be the biggest season
22:13where they have to beep out so many words,
22:14because I swear every single one of you say the F word every five seconds.
22:19No, I don't beep off, nor beep don't.
22:23So we went to dinner and we invited Courtney and Grant,
22:25because they're, like, another couple that they sort of get along with.
22:28Anyway, I guess moral of the story, we, like, we are sorry.
22:33Don't apologise at all.
22:34You got nothing to apologise for with me.
22:36Yeah.
22:37And, like, also, just to let you know,
22:39our experience was, like, tiny little modicum, um,
22:41Miner's Cottage, where we, like, are, like, painting the walls white.
22:45We have done multiple houses, but that was...
22:47If anyone asked, that was...
22:48You don't need to explain the ****, honestly.
22:50Like...
22:51Hey, guys.
22:52Hi, boys.
22:53Sorry we're late.
22:54Sorry we're late.
22:55That's OK.
22:57And then they're, like, oh, sorry we're late.
22:59And Mimi's, like, I never invited you.
23:02You weren't even invited.
23:03Sorry.
23:04Are you hungry?
23:05We clearly knew you were here.
23:06Sorry we didn't invite you.
23:07Do you want some chippies?
23:08No, I'm actually...
23:09I had a great light and easy.
23:10Oh.
23:11Cheers, cheers.
23:12We've come a long way since Sunday night.
23:14Amazing.
23:16Well, I feel like the six of us going out,
23:18so house five, two and one going out,
23:20wasn't excluding people, like, singly out,
23:24because there was two couples missing.
23:26So then when Rikki and Hayden were there
23:28and then there was only Kylie and Brad weren't there,
23:30we were like, oh, now it looks like we're excluding them,
23:33which was never...
23:34For us, like, obviously is the worst thing
23:38because we've been excluded for the last however many weeks.
23:41I just hope that when you come home,
23:43you'll feel like you can actually reach out
23:45to, like, either Courtney or...
23:46Yeah, I want that.
23:48It's sort of time for just people to move on, maybe,
23:51and just enjoy the last few weeks.
23:54Um, yeah.
23:56Coming up, house five's landscaper, Troy,
23:59cuts corners and breaks rules.
24:01No, no, it's not all about you.
24:03Gary said...
24:04I understand, but you've got to understand five houses.
24:07Five houses.
24:20Over in house two,
24:21Courtney and Grant have $71,700 saved for their backyard.
24:25And while it seems a lot,
24:27most of the other teams have about 20 grand more to spend.
24:31Um, look, it's not great, but we'll have enough to finish.
24:35It's not going to be everything we want, all right?
24:37We're just going to make sacrifices.
24:38We'll put a bit more money into the backyard
24:40as opposed to the front yard.
24:41I think our backyard will have everything we want.
24:43Yeah.
24:44It's more the front yard with, like,
24:46if we could get a 10 or win this week,
24:48then we'll be fine with the front yard.
24:50But right now, it'll be very simplified
24:52because we're putting more of our budget into the backyard.
24:55It's a bit of a shame
24:56because we're not going to have every idea
24:58sort of finish the way we want it.
25:00But we'll still have a very nice sort of user-friendly yard.
25:03Um, I think it'd be perfect for a holiday home.
25:10Ah!
25:11Silly goose.
25:13Um, Courtney and Maddie needed to go to shops.
25:18So I said, let's go together.
25:22I did go out shopping with Courtney and Mimi, which was nice.
25:26I haven't had any kind of experience
25:28outside of, like, challenges
25:30and things that I have to be with other people.
25:33Oh, Jesus!
25:34Oh!
25:36What's it in?
25:38Did you put a handbrake?
25:39Yes.
25:40Ha-ha!
25:41Mimi, what the f***?
25:43Oh, my God!
25:45Ha-ha-ha!
25:51Security, will you let me in your car?
25:53I'm not looking for trouble.
25:56Do you think I'll get crucified if I put this in my backyard?
25:59Ha-ha-ha!
26:00Right in my pony.
26:03How's that sound?
26:06I love these light bulbs.
26:07I do, too.
26:08You should get one.
26:09You should totally get one.
26:11Yes!
26:12Woo!
26:13Ow.
26:14If you girls are done and you want to go and get your pizza oven or something
26:17or go to lunch so that I don't hold you up,
26:19you can swing back and get me.
26:23So Courtney and I had lunch.
26:24This is going to be really hot, but I'm so hungry.
26:27I don't care. I'll take the burns.
26:29The burns.
26:30And then we went to pick up our pizza oven.
26:33Find that you cook pizzas and the next day they're still warm.
26:37Oh, wow.
26:38So you can put a bit more water in.
26:39You can actually do breads and so on.
26:40It's got fantastic thermal retention.
26:42Yes.
26:46Came back and picked up Maddie.
26:49An hour and a half later.
27:00Back at the block in house five,
27:02Christian and Mimi have landscaper Troy Lovett on board.
27:05This is his third block and he's gunning for his third win.
27:10Artie's passion to succeed sometimes gets him in trouble.
27:14Because Troy's so passionate and just wants to get the job done
27:18and does maybe push the limits,
27:21I think he's had a fight with Aiden, Simmo, Dino, Gary.
27:30T-Mac.
27:32That's fun.
27:33Look, today is not a good day.
27:35We've got loads out in the street
27:37that have been lined up for hours that we're waiting for.
27:40Because every house is relatively the same size
27:43and there is a minimum of 120 cubic metres of material
27:48that needs to be imported into the sites.
27:50That's soil, crushed rock, sand, pebbles, mulch,
27:54all of the garden supply stuff.
27:56These trucks can only carry about eight metres,
27:58so plus a little bit of extra,
28:00we're talking about 120 trucks that have to come in here.
28:04We aren't even getting one truck of soil works in here a day.
28:08So how are we going to get 120 in over the next three or four days?
28:12It's impossible.
28:13And those deliveries I'm talking about
28:15doesn't include Beaumonts, timber, Mitre 10,
28:18anything else that's got to come, just soil works alone.
28:21Even if it's 100 trucks, it's not going to happen.
28:25Troy's seen the truck from Beaumont Tiles has driven past his house
28:29and down to the bottom of the block,
28:31so he's getting in before anybody else
28:33with the driver and machine he's commandeered.
28:40No, no, it's not all about you.
28:42Shane, I'm doing what Gary said to do with me.
28:45Don't speak about it.
28:48I'm only doing what Gary said, D, that's all.
28:50I don't care.
28:51We've got a whole truck of tiles.
28:53We're putting all the tiles there.
28:55We will get them to you.
28:56Gary said if you see...
28:57We will get them to you.
28:58No, I know, D, but Gary said...
29:00I understand, but you've got to understand.
29:02Five houses.
29:03But he said if you see house five, get him to dump it on the way through.
29:06That's what he told me to do.
29:07I know, I need Beaumonts to be here this morning.
29:09I'm trying to get all the tiles in.
29:11I'm only doing what Gary said, D.
29:13I need Beaumonts to be here this morning.
29:14I'm trying to get all the tiles in.
29:16I'm only doing what Gary said, that's all I'm doing.
29:20Why were you upset with Troy?
29:22Because I had a plan.
29:24And then Troy put my tiles up here, put my tiles up here.
29:27So his tiles were up there.
29:29So, yeah.
29:31He's trying to organise five houses, 1,500 trucks, deliveries,
29:35but trying to do the right thing.
29:38But, yeah, he's under the pump, yeah.
29:44Rrrr!
29:50It's backyard week on the block.
29:52To help rip into our two weeks of landscaping,
29:55today I've asked our blockheads to check out
29:57some Greenworks battery-operated equipment
30:00that will go into their houses for auction day.
30:02Put everything in here.
30:04I want this one.
30:06He looks like a kid.
30:07I've also got a cool buggy and scooter.
30:10Woo!
30:12But I have a different plan for those.
30:14Wouldn't be gardening week without some giveaways.
30:17Dave, talk us through the Greenworks kit. It's unreal.
30:20We have Greenworks here, and they are the leaders in technology
30:23for battery-operated equipment, OK?
30:25And we all love sustainability here on the block here.
30:27You know what?
30:28It's that good that the Franklin guys
30:30are using it here at the block right now.
30:32All this kit is yours from Greenworks for you to use on the block
30:35and to put in the garage and sell with your homes.
30:38Now, I have noticed everybody is eyeing off the fun toys over here.
30:43Well, I'm going to give you all the chance to win these.
30:47I have a very cunning plan.
30:50Oh.
30:51As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed
30:54Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.
30:56It's that cunning.
30:58What?
30:59We've been given, like, a riddle sort of thing.
31:02Cunning. Cunning. Cunning.
31:04Some cunning plan.
31:06Cunning as a fox in Foxfield or something.
31:08Scotty never says anything that doesn't mean something.
31:10That has to be one. I don't know who's going to get that.
31:13Is cunning... Is it cunning as a fox?
31:16Or is the Professor of Cunning at Oxford University?
31:21I don't know. I don't really...
31:23I think we're too young for those riddles.
31:25Some contestants take challenges a lot more seriously than others.
31:28I want to get to the bottom of it.
31:30It's living rent free in my head. Like, I can't let it go.
31:33As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed
31:35Professor of Cunning.
31:38Can't let it go. I'm struggling to cope.
31:40This riddle is consuming me.
31:42As cunning as a fox as a professor who's been to the...
31:46I went to the McCafe and I asked for two large foxes.
31:50I have a very cunning plan.
31:53Hang on. Foxes.
31:55There's no foxes on this island.
31:57I did some research. I read an article.
32:00And apparently there's only one fox left on the island.
32:03And it's a stuffed fox and it's located at the Penguin Parade.
32:13It's a cracking day to solve riddles, mate.
32:19Oh, here it is.
32:21It's the only fox left on the island, mate.
32:24Hang on. Is that Phil's rock?
32:27The rock that Phil sits on next to Scotty, it was right there.
32:31Oh, dude, there's a fox underneath the rock.
32:33It's Michael J. Fox, dude.
32:35Oh, it's a fox.
32:37Oh, no. What's happening here?
32:39There was some sort of sticker on the back of it.
32:42Is it green? Is it like grass?
32:45And maybe a path going through grass or something.
32:47And maybe Michael J. Fox is hiding underneath the paver.
32:52Looked like pavers or something with an X marks the spot on it.
32:56It's a map.
32:57To me it looks green. I don't know what that means.
32:59Like it's grass or something.
33:01Green room.
33:03Photos on the wall.
33:05The all-star wall, mate.
33:07This matches the green room with all the all-star photos on it.
33:10And all the little tiles were the photo frames on the wall.
33:15That's the clue, dude. An X marks the spot.
33:21Race back to the all-star wall.
33:23The map is this way or that way? Hang on.
33:25We tracked where that photo was.
33:28You've got a photo of Scotty.
33:30And that was our X on our map.
33:32Is that them?
33:34Mate, maybe Michael J. Fox is here with Scotty.
33:37They're probably mates.
33:38Is it just opening?
33:40Go, mate. Take it off.
33:43Boom!
33:44Oh, Jesus!
33:46The big Scotty's in there.
33:48How long have you been waiting here for?
33:50Since lunchtime yesterday.
33:52LAUGHTER
33:54I'm so glad you finally found me.
33:56So, you solved the riddle and found the fox.
33:59We solved the riddle.
34:01Very cunning fox he was, too.
34:03Very cunning.
34:04Here is your final clue.
34:06Oh!
34:08Before this game is over, there will be one final test.
34:13If you want to win those,
34:16you must first learn about all of these.
34:21You're the first team to find me.
34:23Congratulations.
34:24Thanks, mate.
34:25I'm staying in here for a day and a half
34:27without holding some special prize for you.
34:29Oh, yeah.
34:30All right.
34:31Here you go.
34:32Open her up.
34:33Do we open it now?
34:34Rip it open.
34:35Ooh!
34:36Hey!
34:37Yes!
34:38Daiwa.
34:39Nice work.
34:405,000 bucks worth of Daiwa fishing gear.
34:42Yes, thanks, mate.
34:445,000 bucks of Daiwa.
34:46That is a lot of coins on Daiwa.
34:48Wow.
34:49Couple of rods on the boat.
34:50Yep.
34:51Let's take it yourself.
34:52Straight in the kayak, mate.
34:53Yes!
34:54Done.
34:55Legend.
34:56Yeah, she can go.
34:57Boys, I'll see you later.
34:58All right.
34:59See you, mate.
35:00We're thinking there's going to be a test, like an exam.
35:02Yeah, we had a light bulb moment.
35:04We think there's going to be a final exam
35:06on the history of the block
35:08and on Michael J. Fox.
35:11So, study time.
35:20So far, Backyard Week has been crazy, chaotic and congested,
35:25and it's been the worst for houses 3 and 4,
35:28who are located down the back of the block at the end of the road.
35:32Managed chaos, or, like, some sort of chaos symphony.
35:38I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys,
35:41so many pieces of machinery and equipment and plant,
35:44you know, operating in the one place.
35:46Probably not the most efficient.
35:48In terms of having that many things going on at the one time,
35:50but it seems to work.
35:52One truck in, one truck out,
35:54one machine down, one machine up.
35:56It's absolute chaos.
35:58Ricky and Hayden are planning the simplest backyard on the block.
36:01No paving and lots of lawn that wraps around the house.
36:05A large custom-built swing set,
36:07the largest pool on the block with a sun deck.
36:14They don't need a lot of concrete, as it costs big money.
36:17But will take any opportunity that comes their way to save money.
36:22Do you boys want any concrete?
36:24I've got some leftover concrete if you want it.
36:26Yeah, I think we do, man. Yeah, you can have it.
36:28That'd be sticky.
36:29We've got a factory here of concrete.
36:32Keep it coming! Keep it coming!
36:36The problem we've got at the moment,
36:38we've got this concrete truck that the boys want to use,
36:40but then out the front we've got soil works for house 3
36:42that the boys want to dump.
36:43So they've snookered themselves.
36:45Right now we're just filling up as many wheelbarrows as possible with concrete.
36:49So he can go and the soil truck can come in,
36:52put the soil somewhere,
36:54and then we've got to somehow dig holes to get rid of the concrete.
36:56We're working upside down, but that's what house 3 do.
36:59They do their ceilings first, remember,
37:01then do the rest of the house underneath.
37:03It's the same idea now.
37:05Our team is filled with some very skilled
37:08and highly intelligent operators.
37:11So in whichever direction they want to build, we will follow them.
37:14We're doing the slab.
37:15Slab it out.
37:16Slab it out.
37:17We'll get some mesh,
37:19we'll get the chippies over here to do a frame,
37:21and we'll pour the concrete in.
37:22Done.
37:25The slab Duncan wants to build will be right outside the back door.
37:31Truck's gone.
37:32Get the big one in.
37:33Let's go.
37:34One scrape, we're on.
37:35Pour in conch.
37:36Y'all ready for this?
37:37We've got the ground level.
37:39We've put together a big frame
37:41and, yeah, put our own slab,
37:43so we've got our own little stairway out to the pool.
37:46And we got the concrete through.
37:49There you go.
37:50One step.
37:51That's how you get it done.
37:53Bring it in.
38:00Look on the block, you've just got to build how you can build,
38:02whether it's backwards, forwards, sideways,
38:04as long as you're building in one direction and that is forwards.
38:07It's not just the boys that are feeling the pinch.
38:09Everyone's budgets are tight, which is why last week this happened.
38:13Over the last couple of months,
38:15Jo from finance here has been keeping a very tight eye on your budgets
38:20and she's been tracking them by tracking your spending on Xero.
38:24It's not about how much you spend,
38:26it's more about how well you spend
38:28and whether you're paying your bills on time on Xero.
38:35Now it's time to find out who wins.
38:39G'day, good evening.
38:40Hi.
38:41Hello, hello, hello.
38:42A lot can happen in a week and apparently it did.
38:45It was nuts.
38:46I have never seen, in all my time on the block,
38:49contestants paying bills, uploading invoices to Xero
38:52like I've seen in the last week.
38:54Wow.
38:55It's been incredible and we should do it every year.
38:57Should do it every week, you reckon?
38:59Every week, let's do it every week.
39:00Every week.
39:01Well, obviously everyone wants to get their hands on the medals
39:04and the $10,000 from Xero.
39:07Now, Jo, how'd we go?
39:09Scotty, it was neck and neck.
39:11Yep.
39:12And I was sort of starting to think that
39:14I wasn't going to be able to make a decision.
39:16Two teams had paid every single bill
39:19and uploaded every single invoice.
39:21Wow.
39:22I was starting to think,
39:23we're going to have to share these medals.
39:25Yep.
39:26However, this afternoon,
39:29one of those teams sent me a budget forecast
39:32for the next two weeks
39:35detailing all their outgoing spend to the cent.
39:38Wow.
39:39So something right at the death has tipped them over the line.
39:42Crunch time, they came through.
39:44Who is it, Jo?
39:45The winner of the Xero Hero Award
39:53is House 3.
39:54Oh!
39:55Yes!
39:56Well done, boys.
39:58Oh, boys, come and get your medals.
40:00Thanks, mate.
40:01Thank you, Jo.
40:02Yeah, take them off there.
40:03I didn't do a lot for, to be honest.
40:05I just made sure any invoice I get,
40:06I send straight to Hayden.
40:08So this is a lot of Hayden's work, really.
40:13Yeah, I reckon it's real gold.
40:14Yeah, I reckon it could be.
40:15I reckon that's solid, 24 karat.
40:16That's a tooth mark.
40:17Yeah.
40:18Here you go.
40:19Thanks, mate.
40:20I'll take that too.
40:21You're going to have to redo that spreadsheet now.
40:22I'll do it.
40:23You can hold it for a minute.
40:24You're going to have to redo your spreadsheet.
40:25Oh, wow.
40:26You've got an extra 10 grand.
40:27That's it.
40:28I've got something in mind.
40:29Xero Heroes, baby.
40:30Xero Heroes.
40:31Come on.
40:32Yes.
40:3310K.
40:34I'll wear that medal with pride.
40:36See you later.
40:38Bye.
40:39Bye.
40:41Good job, boys.
40:44I was really close to being done.
40:45Thanks, guys.
40:46Cheers.
40:51After a successful day with a couple of wins,
40:54Riggi and Hayden are taking a moment
40:56to commemorate the passing of a friend.
40:59All right, boys.
41:01Today's a very special day.
41:03Today's me late best mate, Lachie's, birthday.
41:06He's no longer with us.
41:12Yeah, we lost him in a car accident
41:14about just over 10 years ago.
41:16I watched him walk out the door on Cup Day
41:19and he never came back.
41:23I don't have much of a family.
41:25My family's basically my good mates
41:27and their family, really.
41:30This is the first time in a long time
41:32I haven't been able to see him where he now rests.
41:36We were like brothers, pretty much.
41:40We had matching tats.
41:42Brothers, different mothers.
41:45And, yeah, we always told each other
41:46as long as we've got each other,
41:47we don't need anyone else.
41:50I know he'd be super proud of where we are.
41:53I think it's one of the driving reasons
41:55why it's never enough for me.
41:58We win one challenge
42:00and all I want to do is win the next one for him.
42:02I think it's just important that we enjoy each day, man.
42:07Something bad happens,
42:08but it can always be so much worse.
42:11It can always be so much worse.
42:13And that's why me and H has lost his dad.
42:16I've lost my best mate.
42:18And I think that's for me and H
42:20is just making sure that every day,
42:22no matter what happens,
42:23we just enjoy every day.
42:25You know, and we're so grateful.
42:29Tomorrow night,
42:30gung-ho behaviour by House 5's landscaper
42:33creates anarchy.
42:34Troy's gone and got an auger in there
42:37and now he's just drilling.
42:39You know, there's live power,
42:41there's live sewer through these joints.
42:43If we start hitting that, we're in trouble.
42:45We can shut the whole site down.
42:46Like, it's not the Troy Lovett Show.
42:49Kylie and Brad's house grinds to a halt
42:51when they order the wrong concrete.
42:53What mix is this?
42:54Brad, you got the wrong mix here, mate.
42:56It's not a 7mm mix.
42:57Yeah, that is a disaster.
42:59And their landscaper forgets to order plants.
43:02We were under the impression
43:03that all our plants were sorted.
43:05That was a bit of a bombshell for us.
43:08Leaving them with these small, immature shrubs.
43:11We're a good day behind.
43:13It might just be not finished.
43:15Yeah.
43:18But despite all the problems,
43:20on Sunday night,
43:21some magnificent backyards rise up from the earth.
43:24That is phenomenal.
43:28It's miraculous that it's this good in this time frame.
43:34This is 35, 40 metres of perfection.
