00:12Safety in the renewable energy sector.
00:15Engie in the front line.
00:19Clean cooking.
00:20Eni brings to the max the work carried out in Mozambique and Angola.
00:26The renewable energy sector is experiencing exponential growth.
00:29It represents a decisive lever to achieve decarbonisation goals
00:34and guarantee a sustainable future.
00:36The rapid development of the sector
00:38corresponds to a significant increase in the number of workers involved
00:42in the implementation of the plants
00:44and increases the attention around the issue of safety at work.
00:47This was discussed at Together for Safety,
00:50the meeting organized by Engie,
00:52the leading company in decarbonisation and energy efficiency.
00:56The renewable energy sector is becoming increasingly important,
00:59both on the market,
01:01because at the Italian level we have extremely ambitious goals
01:04from here to 2030,
01:06and also for Engie as a consequence.
01:08We are an integrated operator in the entire energy sector
01:12and renewables are an increasingly important part of our investments.
01:17So it is essential that the issue of safety,
01:20which is crucial for us,
01:22of our license to be able to operate,
01:25is taken into consideration.
01:27Engie is carrying out an extremely detailed programme
01:30for all its businesses,
01:32for every activity we carry out in relation to safety,
01:35which starts with the training of our managers,
01:38from managers to people on the field,
01:40but also involving all our partners
01:42who work with us in the plants and beyond.
01:44In recent years we have halved the rate of accidents,
01:47also thanks to the sensitization
01:49that we are carrying out in a maniacal way.
01:52So it is very important for us that our managers,
01:55that our people on the field,
01:57that our partners have this issue in mind
02:01and are trained to be able to deal with it
02:03in the most rigorous and serious way possible.
02:06It was a day of confrontation
02:08with institutions and operators of the energy market,
02:11aimed at raising awareness of the actors involved
02:13on the fundamental issue of safety at work
02:15for a sector that between 2022 and 2023
02:18has seen the number of workers involved
02:20in the development of wind and photovoltaic plants
02:23increase by about 20%,
02:25going from over 13 million to over 16 million.
02:28Yes, we have foreseen, from our calculations,
02:31a very significant increase in jobs
02:34in the world of renewables.
02:36More or less NIEC tells us that we should grow
02:39between 50 and 60 gigawatts of new plants in Italy.
02:43What does this mean?
02:45It means more or less 2,000 construction sites
02:47between today and 2030.
02:49We have made the calculation.
02:51More or less it means 140 million hours of work
02:54in the world of renewables.
02:57So safety is an important issue.
03:00I am very proud of this event
03:02because we had a good presence in the market.
03:05It means that there is attention from the market to safety.
03:09I have seen that there are also good practices
03:13that have been shared with the various suppliers
03:16and various players of this event.
03:18So it was really a moment
03:20when we were able to grow the feeling
03:24that we all have to work together on the issue of safety.
03:28An exhibition at the Maxi Museum in Rome
03:31entitled Feel Food, Energy and Life
03:33to tell the commitment of ENI in the field of clean cooking,
03:37that is, the promotion of more efficient and sustainable
03:40cooking systems in local communities.
03:42The exhibition project uses the images
03:45of photographer Gabriele Galimberti
03:47and immersive video projections
03:49to illustrate the work carried out by ENI
03:51in Mozambique and Angola
03:53in the field of the ENI for Clean Cooking program.
03:56Moving from three-legged fire,
03:58free fire, to improved systems,
04:00we reduce the use of biomass.
04:02This reduction of biomass allows us
04:04in a voluntary market system of credits
04:06to generate carbon credits
04:08that are then used by ENI.
04:10ENI has taken a commitment
04:12during the Paris Summit last March
04:16to reach 10 million people by 2027
04:20and 20 million people by 2030,
04:23which represents today 2% of the population
04:26that has no access to clean cooking in Africa.
04:28Starting in 2025, the program will introduce
04:31even more advanced solutions,
04:33aiming to eliminate the use of biomass
04:35with obvious environmental and health benefits,
04:38as supported by local organizations
04:40for the production and distribution
04:42of improved stoves that collaborate with ENI.
04:44The program has a specific goal,
04:47which is to provide women with a device,
04:52that is, an improved stove,
04:55which on the one hand
04:57consumes less fuel,
05:00that is, less vegetable carbon,
05:02and on the other hand emits less toxic fumes
05:06that affect the health of the respiratory system,
05:10the skin, the eyes.
05:12Shorten women's time
05:15in having to go and look for fuel
05:19and above all save.
05:21In addition to reducing emissions,
05:23the initiative has a direct impact
05:25on the health of the communities involved.
05:27Every year, 3.7 million people,
05:29especially women and children,
05:31prematurely die due to exposure
05:33to toxic fumes produced
05:35by traditional cooking methods.
05:37The adoption of safer and cleaner technologies,
05:40therefore, not only reduces dependence on biomass,
05:43but also improves the quality of life
05:45of millions of people.
05:46It was very significant and a source of inspiration
05:49to work with ENI on this project
05:51on improved stoves,
05:52which focuses on health, nutrition and gastronomy.
05:55We have traveled through Africa
05:57distributing clean kitchen stoves.
05:59We are facing some of the negative impacts
06:02related to cooking in these rural communities,
06:04but we are also collaborating with women
06:06on nutrition, best practices
06:08and on how they can improve
06:10the quality of their food more effectively.
06:13I can't wait to see this project expand further in Africa
06:16and discover how many other communities
06:18we can reach with this extraordinary project.
