00:00The 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships will be held at the newest edition of the Philippine Sports Writers' Association Forum here in Martes.
00:08The next event will be held from October 28 to November 4 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
00:13This is Daryl Oclares reporting.
00:18On the return of the Philippine Sports Writers' Association Forum here in Martes in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex,
00:26the 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships will be held at the newest edition of the Philippine Sports Writers' Association Forum here in Martes in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
00:36On the theme of Paddle Together for Climate Action,
00:39this is the biggest Dragon Boat event this year that will be held for the first time in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
00:47The President of the Philippine Canoe and Kayak Dragon Boat Federation, Leonora Esculiante, will be the first to attend the PSA Forum.
00:55According to Esculiante, there are more than 20 countries participating in the tournament, which will be divided into 54 Dragon Boat Race Events.
01:04Junior, 9 events.
01:06In the open category, the national team, we have 18 events.
01:11And then we have also categories for 40+.
01:15The 40 to 49, that's what we call Masters A.
01:21Then we have categories for 50+.
01:24So all the 50 plus and above, that's their bracket.
01:29That is 9 events also.
01:31But for 40+, we have 18 events.
01:35That's why all in all, 54.
01:36For our country, Esculiante is hoping that the Philippines can compete with the best paddlers in the world.
01:47However, in 2018, the country was last in the world stage,
01:52where the Philippine Dragon Boat Team was crowned overall champion after collecting 5 gold and 2 silver medals.
02:00Maybe when the participants are here, and we see them warming up,
02:06on the first day, maybe we can say,
02:08yes, no matter what, even if we are half or one-fourth, it's a big deal.
02:14One-fourth is a big deal.
02:15Because why aiming overall?
02:18For aiming overall.
02:19I hope, in God's will.
02:21The 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships will serve as qualifiers for the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China in August.
02:33Daryl Longclares for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
